I've been struggling a lot with coloring and I don't want to ruin this drawing
#HII, I really really need help in coloring ;-; (especially stuff like color theory or lighting)

(I genuinely need a clear explanation, not just like "oh you're drawing is cool just add color ther and here and blablabla" I need like smthg abt colors that could fit the vibe of my drawing, shadows, light, tips, ect)

Hi! I would start by deciding on the mood i want this piece to give off. The character seems tired of life itself so that creates a very good emotional basis for the color scheme if you want to have that be your focus. You could use blues and dull colors (greys) and greyed out oranges/reds for contrast where you need it. I would use the fairy lights on the walls as an in picture light source. If you want their face to have clear lighting you could imagine a window on our side of the room. this would give you a harsher and direct light source to work with. Maybe the curtains are shut and there is only a streak of warm morning light pouring in? This would contrast nicely with the blue tones in the room but also add an extra message?/story to the drawing. They are tired but also yearning for warmth, change, whatever meaning the viewer associates with sunlight BUT there is something stopping them (the curtains)
So if i had to put my thought process in steps
1 what vibe/emotion should the piece have -> how do i achieve? -> colors
2 What do i want the focus of the piece to be -> lighting
3 where can i add contrast to make it more interesting
4 what are other elements i can use? (example: fairy lights)
oh also depth (visually but also story telling vise)

samdoesarts is very strong when it comes to coloring and lighting. In general i love all of pikats videos and tips, Jakedontdraw is a nice channel if you want to learn painting fundamentals without getting bored or it feeling too much like lessons? if that makes sense, Sinix same vibes but more digital focused
