Try adding a background behind her so you have a good sense of where she is and what lighting to use. But if its meant to be a basic bg, try finding a good shading color and just smack it onto her. Then You should erase the places where light will hit. (think of it like this: Think that you're the light source looking at her, think about the places that you wont see and erase the places that you would see) But this is just my art style and how I do things just so u know

i think this is pretty solid, i think it might be lacking highlights though, youve got some nice defined shadows in the hair and around the characters face, but if you added some highlights on the cheek, the nose, the lips, and in the hair it'll help create a more dynamic image, also dont forget shadows and such on the body as well!
