Im new to the digital art, i don't really know how to pick colors to make the art POP and doesn't look boring. I love those strong light arts but it's really confusing for me to learn intermidate techniques like that, not sure where the shadow should go.. don't know that the light are correct or not. I also really wanna fix on the hair of my character too, it looks so odd in someway, the shadows. Please show me some ways and advices, I appreciate every critisize and comments, thank you so much! ^^

if you just add black, you get dull lighting

#

you can see here

#

with the bottom example, I hue shifted towards blue whilst adding darkness

#

I'd also recommend defining your shadows more within the art

#

if you don't mind, I did a little touching to the drawing with just a little more color variation and a bit more defined shading

#

the basis you had was already really good, it's just about continuing to push those darks and to accentuate the forms of the body

Thank you so much! I never knew that drawings could be more alive by shifting hue, your advices really helped me so much, i'll try to use hue technique and difining my shadows more!

the only thing that needs to be solidified are forms and values

#

otherwise, you have all the freedom you could want

this is extremely crucial, because if you intend to do really strong lights or really high-contrast scenarios (like a sunset, or a very bright lantern in a dark night), things lit up around it almost in a sense "lose" it's original hue and is pushed very far towards the light sources' colors!!

#

in those scenarios values (how visually dark a color is) rather than hues (which color it actually is) takes higher precedence for expression

#

just like how a single chord can often make no sense played individually, sometimes if you use the colorpicker tool on a beautiful twilight with what appears to be blues, pinks, oranges and reds, the color you picked out can make no sense! it's through a lot of context and mindful composition of them that it harmonizes to make a stunning experience ❤️
