The colors look muddied and it isn't giving the depth I would like. Depth/Lighting is an area I'm looking to improve. Would appreciate examples or rss suggestions, if you'd like.

Notes: Piece made for an arpg prompt, so char designs will be a little different from one another. The scene depicts something being wrong w the children, w the other chars working on a solution. The children are meant to be in a darker area, w the others more illuminated.

Thank you in advance. I've hit 40 layers and am going crazy.

40 layers is another level 😭😭 it really depends on where your light comes from, sketch out your light sources (i think it’s the blud orb??) and soft light sources too. You can look at references, for example the two characters infront of the orb will be hit by the light coming off it (lemme mark it out real quick), and define if the lighting will be hard or soft (depending on the the distance and depth)

I made some sketches, not everything but take a good look at references and map it out. The shadows too btw 😭

I will study this, thank you! Haha, I hadn't thought of the light coming from their creepy eyes 😂

Thank you so much for the help!! Adding a touch of eyeglow helped, and going back and re-emphasizing the blue did, as well.

I think personally i would try a vignette effect and then all the light is radiating from the orb. As far as muted colors, more tones should help, that usually works for me

Right now the sky is all lit up too so for me it doesnt mesh with the other side being darker, the orb should be lighting up the area directly around it but if its enough to light up the sky it would light up that left side too so i think thats whats goin on here
