shading help or any other advice would be hugely appreciated!

@green steeple So sorry to reply this late!

• Think about material, texture, and lighting driection

• The style you’re aming for works best in hard light; not so much in halftones

• Ambient light should still be considered
  (think of ambient light as the light that comes from the environment, ie. the moon)

There’s also bounce light, which comes from the surface that the light is bouncing off of.

After all of this, which would be considered the foundation or structure of a cake, we can now focus on the frosting. I consider the frosting as "special effects". This includes hue variation, particles and anything else that isn’t necessary but adds “umph” to the piece.

Okay, with that out the way, I painted an example using a sphere.

Now lets apply the sphere to your art-piece:

Take this information with a grain of salt, as I’m not experienced with this style in contrast to my more gritty and dark artsyle.
