So I'm trying to get into painting and I've always wondered how you avoid getting that dry patchy look with your acrylic paint. I'm having some trouble with it right now. Any tips?

in terms of getting the acrylic to be less patchy, you just need to load your brush with more paint! its dry because your brush is getting dry and not able to fill in all the groves of the material. this especially happens on raw paper that isnt primed, which will absorb the paint and make your brush dry quicker, so youll need to load your brush more often with this kind of paper
you can add a little water to the paint as well but not too much or else the paint will become translucent, the ratio of water to acrylic should only be around 1:9 or 2:8 (unless you intentionally want to do a wash ofc)
TD;LR use more paint

yeah pretty much haha, sometimes its unavoidable and youll need to do a couple coats on a surface that isnt primed
