Whenever I do my flat colors everything just feels off, is it because it's not shaded at all or because I'm coloring it wrong?

Its cause its not shaded is why your mind thinks something is off, but theres nothing wrong with not shading, if thats the style youre doin

color theory might help

#

or try putting a unifying color over your color scheme at like 15% opacity and then using those colors to make your painting

# blissful ingot What do you mean by that?

this is pretty much what i mean. What they're doing is choosing a unifying color (her skin tone in this case) and putting their desired colors on top at like 75-80% opacity
i don't usually include my unifying color in the drawing (though i do sometimes), and it's usually a brown, beige, pink, or purple. I put my original colors down first and put the unfying colors over it

i would do more contrast than in the original image by putting down the unifying color at a lower opacity since I think having it be too high can make it look muddy
