what is my skin shading missing?

Maybe using a different color for the shadows— the shading is comprised of desaturated colors in the original reference

What do you mean?

Your piece is highly saturated while the reference is not. Try using a more desaturated color for the skin. Basically just color pick something that’s more muted a less vibrate red color idk how to explain beyond that

Just an example

Use I lighter shades as well to bring more light to her face. Like on her forehead, nose, cheek, and neck

When you finish the changes, send an updated version, and I'll see if I can point anything else out

like @coarse lodge said, the reference you're referring to is composed of desaturated/cooler tones, and yours is very vibrant

#

if you look closely, the skintone of your reference is very much a pale, greyish white tone

#

the blush tone is very light, may have used an airbrush for it

#

the shadows are only a tad darker than the base skin tone

#

it isn't really detailed either, her face is very round and soft without much definition.

They have more cool toned, unsaturated bright colors and you used very very warm kinda dark and saturated colors
