What I like to do is get them almost flushed then when I'm air brushing the glossyness-ish will make the nips pop so I will sand those down (usually the exterior) then apply a 2nd coat

Cuz if u sand every piece down it's gonna take way too long esp the interior frame for rg and mg/Pg where u don't even see the nips

U usually want to apply 2 coats anyway
