i hate this timeline
And greedy developers saw an opportunity
ah bull
BULL-EXCREMENTS
games progressed up until...
Chair (a branch of Epic, i believe) somehow managed to get UE3 running on as early as iphone 3gs
and then released infinity blade
then the only major step in mobile game development was that one idTech 3 shooter with MTX (one of the first, if not THE first mobile game with in-app purchaces)
and then the rest is history
so on one hand we had this tech marvel of a roguelite with a cool concept and awesome production values
and on the other - a crappy shooter running on an outdated tech... BUT WITH MICROTRANSACTIONS!
and the industry ran with the latter
and the rest is history
i hate this timeline
but after that - everything really slowed down
And they removed Infinity Blade AND its sequels from the market :/
Maximum profit through minimal effort, somehow it looks like we would have always ended up here
yeah WE CAN'T HAVE GOOD THINGS
like - come on
I don't get the thought process behind delisting old games
this is where videogame preservation goes to die
literally
it's all up to
too keep this game afloat
Sony is delisting games too, and I think Nintendo as well
everyone does
but mobile market is going super-sanic on this
games are getting delisted left right and center all the time
Like, come on, is it that hard to make an emulator for old games and put it on the store for everyone to download?
Apple in particular has a policy about a certain frequency of updates to keep games available
it's licencing, mostly
keeping old games alive usually costs some money - either from keeping the servers up, paying for services, licencing the software used or - which is the worst - licencing the music
this is why we can't have burnout back
because EA is apparently too poor to licence a bunch of 20 years old songs
boo-flippin-hoo
muh poor EA
get a dog up your...
Yet they make copypasta casinos with football skins every year, the nerve of us, right?
remember kids
when it comes to games - support small devs
steal corporate
I don't buy AAA games anymore unless they're from second hand shops AND cheap
Why wouldn't they when they continue to make billions of dollars doing so
two weeks a go i met up with an old friend
we had a bunch of
and just chilled and caught up
and for the old times sake he booted up fifa on his ps5
i swear to god - it took us 10 minutes to even find a play button in the main menu
to - you know - play a goddamn match
it was all just paid mode 1 and paid mode 2 and online whatever and get your cards here
just piles and piles of convoluted modes that all led to you buying those fifa points and cards and what not and i'm just...
i just...
i just wanna play the game with my old friend
just give me the "Free play" button
oh - it's hidden under three different menu clicks
oh, ok - sure
it's 2022
we can't have nice things anymore
better get used to it - AAA isn't getting better anytime soon - it's all downhill from here
and there's no bottom to land on
better stick with indies and middle market
As far as the developers I'm interested in keep making games I care about I'm not too concerned
well - as long as newblood is with us
they make some cool sh-
stuff
Here's everything we could and couldn't show you at E3 this year. Thanks Bam.
if they go under...
...the entire industry goes with them
look at how buff dave is
got got this buff from carrying literally everyone on his shoulders
i'm kidding, of course
i just love this crew

I was this close to downloading Fall Guys but unfortunately Epic Games acquired Mediatonic, and since I hate Epic Games' guts, I ain't playing it
I think it was kind of acceptable before they made Fortnite and went boom
But after that...sigh
What transgressions have they committed to warrant your hate
Yes
friendly reminder even if you hate epic and refuse to use their store or their products you're probably still engaging with epic in some way, gestures at unreal engine
yeah...
sucks, doesn't it ?
remember when idtech was the standard?
i guess they lost that battle in the long run
something something competition between marketplaces means more money for indie developers something something capybara something
The thing is usually licencing fees are a single installment with the unreal engine, so your involvement is unnecessary
For epic games to make money
bideo gam
phani
Avocados don't have ethnicity
i really only said that bc ive seen people in various places say that theyre boycotting epic and whatever without any ounce of self-awareness for the products they use lol. most recent example i can recall was someone asking about a dll file in a game, someone said it was epic/tencent, and then the whole thread went on about omg awful spyware epic bad im not buying this game! and it turns out it was literally something used for multiplayer. and also whining on steam forums about spyware is quite comical in itself, nevermind that i doubt any of those people were very rigid with their own infosec. its just pointless kneejerking any time epic comes up
Tl:dr, the way in which they treat their devs is abhorant as well as the amount of forced or coerced crunch, the many hypocritical things the founder has said either in regards to steam or pc gaming in general. The epic launcher is arguably still bare bones even years after it first launching.
However epic are doing some good things, the profit split with devs is the best in industry afaik and it's time the old 70:30 split dies (at the very least for digital sales)
Very true, unreal engine is used a metric tonne especially in the AAA space as well as making epic a boat load of money
oh the launcher is still garbage lol
any time i open it for any reason its just. not improved, the ui is still incredibly annoying to navigate
that sucks
i dont rly care about unreal engine or who uses it but ultimately my point is have some self awareness and dont post nonsensical things like this on steam forums lmao https://steamcommunity.com/app/1621690/discussions/0/5757294878577313405/?ctp=3#c5757294878581562899
"Believe it or not but some people actually have a backbone and refuse to touch epic products." okaaayyyyyy
I love capybara, wish there are more capybaras in games
you can sell your soul to epic or you can sell your soul to steam
i picked steam because their UI works with basic file management functions, unlike that crapfest that is Epic Games launcher.
oh and mod support
other than that, games are games
i dont like epic not because of whatever amorphous "ethical" reasons people spew but because their product is inferior. that's all
ding ding thats basically it
what game is that?
hardspace shipbreaker
Fall guys worth playing?
AI Somnium Files sequel is almost here. im excited
Ngl Sunbreak looking kinda spicy
Skill Swap looks like it'll help a ton of playstyles
CB changes were more than I expected
it feels so good to play on the demo
also new gunlance skill is so good
Is the demo permanent or did it go away?
permanent, you can faint 9 times against astalos
but only 3 times on malzeno with 15 min timer
I wasn't going to look at it because I find it hard to stick with MH long enough to justify the money, but if it feels significantly better on PC plus the Sunbreak spice...
That'll be what I do after my haircut then lol
ikr
i really tried to play the sunbreak demo but got as far as three swings against asta before realising how much armour skills make things better
Say what you will about Cuphead as a game, their soundtrack continues to he absolute fire
The Cuphead - Delicious Last Course soundtrack is comprised of over 110 musicians, performing big band & symphonic music. In Summer of 2021, Studio MDHR brought those musicians together for a series of carefully planned recording sessions. This is an exclusive look at how some of the game’s music was created.
Meanwhile, another helping of class...
Cuphead is fantastic
Similarly Undertale may be lacking in a number of respects
But the music is brilliant and as far as I know composed by one man
I'm not particularly fond of the game but the man must be a genius
Just impressive work
Hardspace Shipbreaker's soundtrack has some jams to it if I do shill my current hyperfixation
Buy Hardspace: Shipbreaker here - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1161580/Hardspace_Shipbreaker/
Ok, starting Neon White
how good is the gameplay and combat of anno mutationem
the style looks very cool
but the length of the game seems a bit short for $20
Wish I knew, will check that game out later
tbh, the game was quite easy
And yeah I finished it with almost al Side quests in 14 hours
Neon White or Anno: Mutationem?
I tried Trepang2 Demo because the name was funny, it means sea cucumber here. I didn't expect a slow mo gun fu FPS game in the same vein as first FEAR
without the horror part
so it's just shooty mctooty

GOD
i wish i had a better rig so that i could run UE4 games at a stable framerate
oh well
at least i can play the proper fear 2-2
selaco
game's cool
devs are cool
||they liked my gzdoom stuff too
||
just good feels all around
bideogaems are cool
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is re-elected to the board for another year - https://t.co/MP5RGy25zA

reminder if ur planning to buy overwatch 2
correction
scratch that
thanks for remining me that bideogaems are not - in fact - cool

also
if ur planning to buy overwatch 2

i don't think anyone here's planning to buy overbotched 2
i mean it is f2p but there are still battlepasses
i don't keep up with it bc im not into shooters just don't give actiblizz ur money
i don't think any of the regs here rly would but there's lurkers
actiblizz: we have investigated ourselves and found no evidence of wrongdoing
actiblizz: also we're keeping kotick
like........
i unlocked the sniperwolf outfit for quiet, god was it a pain to get (in mgsv)
i never thought yellow lipstick would be a thing
kinda reminds me of that meme of Obama giving a medal to Obama
oh right ow2 is gonna be free
ehhhh i dont play that kinda game
my only fav mp pvp shooters are arma 3, squad, and CSGO
like
"we conducted a thorough investigation... on our own company"
"there's nothing bad going on here, we're all good, yes yes"
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/638031423340806185/989566473263521822/unknown.png
Then don't play Diablo, play Children of Morta, lmao
Overwatch 2 will fully replace the original Overwatch at launch, meaning that the original game will no longer be playable from October. https://t.co/94CwdPTRyy

How is it for solo players btw?
wait
wtf
haven't played the campaign solo all that much
i played a lot of that roguelite mode
you could literally play any top down dungeon crawling loot game that has released over the years, even the old ones
like titan quest
uh-oh
OH NO
I SAID THE FORBIDDEN WORDS
THE CURSED RUNES
@polar dragon IS COMING
well now that you pinged
oh shush

aaaaaaaaaaanywyas
anyone here excited for the upcoming Dusk HD update?
oh great /s another WC3 situation
im not even surprised at this point
steam sale soon can't wait to be interested until I see nothing I want is actually on a decent sale lol
Anyone try out F2P Fall Guys yet? Trying to see how bad (or good) the mtxs are
buy dusk
it's good
nah
Hoping to get 10% on Delicious Last Course. Other than that having Game Pass really takes away that collectors itch
Now I feel like I only need to pay for games I actually want to play immediately
yeah there's nothing I need to have atm (I'm gonna be buying the new fe warriors tomorrow anyways) but it'd be nice
maybe I get lucky and death stranding goes on an absurd sale for some reason
I feel like MGS games had good sales, but I think that was more a Konami thing than a Kojima thing
already own mgs5.....somehow
must have gotten it from someone even though i have yet to metal any gears
I'm always surprised when I hear people being excited for Warriors games again
(they're on my list to play)
Like, I'm sure they're great, but having lived through the Dynasty Warriors glut of the early 2000s, I see these new Warriors games and can't help but sigh a little
i like fire emblem three houses
and breath of the wild lol
no interest in the crossover ones
Yeah, going the licensed route for Warriors games was a stroke of genius
Because if I have to see Lu Bu terrorizing a Chinese countryside one more time, then I'll know the gaming industry has run out of ideas
me. it's me. im the musou player of the server
but the latest entries i havent had any interest in lmao
i only played dw9 bc i won it from a koei giveaway, didn't bother with new sw
a lot of the older musou games don't really hold up for me, i'm old now and i really don't enjoy the long officer fights. yeah the ai is pretty dumbed down anymore even on highest difficulty but the ai in some of the older games wasn't really "better" so much as it was "cheap"
anyway this is a really funny sentiment
depends on what you like
i'm still waiting for the doot eternal DLCs to go on sale on ps4

why is stuff always so expensive on consoles?
i mean - i know why
but still
i wish sony had sales on the scale of steam sales
Console doesnt make money by selling hardware
That s why consoles are cheap
(Except for Nintendo hardware lol they print money)
i mean - neither does steam
they barely sold any hardware up until the steam deck
which is still just a drop in the sea of
they make
Sony makes money from online subscription and relies on% from publishers
Steam gets 30% cut from publishers right?
yeah
I think becos steam has DRM
i mean - every platform of this kind is a drm
Ps4 5 digital games have to be the same price as physical copies
Sony cant sell digital games cheaper that much than physical copies I think
i have a slightly different theory
But Nintendo, thier games are so popular so they can stay pricey no discount even games been out for monthssss
most people stick to just one gaming platform, right?
and if you're in camp sony you basically have no choice but to buy games from sony - where they have all the control
but if your platform of choice is a PC - there's more competition there
if you don't like steam then you're free to go and buy games from EGS or ea origin on uplay or gog or whatever
or just install the game straight from a disc (which is rare nowadays) or... just pirate it
that's why this store's cut was such a big deal back when EGS launched
Steam exists for a long time
The main reason is Sony doesnt make money on selling hardwares
yes - i get it - they sell their consoles at a loss and want to make up for that by selling software
same was true as far back as the ps3
But how much %cut I dont know
But Sony can control many things like
Quality of games. ( you wont see Hentai games on ps4/5 lol)
can they now?
CAN THEY control the quality of their games?

im kidding, of course
they let stuff like life of black tiger hit playstation and even showcased a trailer for it obviously quality is slack lul
Um have to google it Black Tiger
i mean - credit where credit is due
at least sony doesn't have unity asset flips and what not
Wtf lol

User score 10 10 10 on metacrituc is a joke lol
I think Sony console never have Early access games?
Something inside me wants PS5 but Idk why
posts tlou2
oh...
well - i was close
sorry to have cursed you on this day
Imagine a game that looks like it's for the PS1, has Google Translate voices, imput lag from the 9th circle of it, AND has an incredibly poor translation to Spanish on top of that
It actually looks better than Goat Sim when I saw it 1st time lolllllll
Anyways
Let’s gooooo

Let’s see if there’s anything good this year
bread
beer
flour, pasta, ultrakill, some veggies,

Feel sleepy everytime I see text
oof - that post has some strong implications
Oh, Dead Cells has released a new update
Oh Dead cells looks interesting.
It is
Tough as nails, but it's definitely up there
Get used to die a lot just like Hades, except skill is even more important here
oh hey
Sniper Elite 4 goes for 21 polish pierogi złoty
so like
5 bucks or something
it's a good cheeki-breeki sneaky game
DMC HD collection for 10 bucks
How is Slay the Spire?
Pretty nice deck builder
Has good replayability and daily challenges to keep things interesting, lots of mods to boot
You'll die even more than in Dead Cells tho
it's basically laggy 10fps crack cocaine in turn-based form
don't play it if you value your free time
Oh
That's the one problem it has 😅
that, and the performance
Game's complete btw, expect no more updates
One thing I love about steam is games are so cheap in my country's currency
Compare to console
yeah
and you don't have to pay for playing online
and it has mod support
among may other things
turkish lira?
How grindy is octopath traveler?
also octopath had some of the weirdest tonal shifts
Yeah it felt like each character was living in its own genre at times
You have this guy in his search of revenge
You have this gal who really wants to hunt the biggest game
like tressa was all plucky young heroine :) and primrose was like ||hey my own father was murdered in front of me and then i was forced into sex work! implied as a child!|| like what
yes hello what's up
yes hello
have you ever played Chaos Rings?
that PS1 looking JRPG released in 2010
naw i don't think i had a phone that could run those kinds of games back then
aw
yeah this game has been on my mind lately
throwback JRPGs are all the rage right now
but that thing launched over a decade ago
on a platform where going oldschool wasn't really a choice, it was a necessity
and thanks to that it somehow felt more... genuine in that approach?
like - it felt like playing a forgotten ps1 game
just at a slightly higher res
iunno - my point is
i think you'd like it
thanks for the rec! i'll check it out

neat
anyways - i'm going back to skulking in the darkest corner of my apartment, eating moldy cheese and waiting for gloomwood to finally come tf out
buhbye

while listening to this on loop too
https://youtu.be/swm-vHECI60
Trapped in a dark, Victorian city consumed by an ancient curse, you must plan your survival and daring escape using nothing but stealth, an arsenal of eccentric weapons, and your wit in this haunting adventure inspired by the immersive sims and survival horror greats of the late 90s and early 2000s.
should I get anno mutationem or neon white
ANNO lasts 3 times longer and is 5 bucks cheaper and I think it was overall the best experience
h'aanit was not just hunting game?? she has reasons beyond that, involving her master
I finished NW with the good ending in 5 hours give or take, ANNO took me 15-16 and had more to do
Also, I'm biased because I'm a fan of the ||SCP-Mythos|| and the game is set in that world
Well, a version of it
Was she? I admit haven't played since before it came to PC
Kk ||scp|| sounds good 👍 is the combat good in anno?
Yeah, although it's not a hard game at all
While Neon White if you are a completionist it will make you suffer
More like, the game is generous, if you do stuff like Sidequest and exploring in ANNO you will always have Ammo, grenades and Upgrades to brute force any enemy that is hard
sounds good ty for game reviews
I swear I'm either good at the game or somehow played it right but I did all the character stories and it was nowhere near as grindy as people said it was. I only fought the wild encounters I naturally got, and never felt underpowered for bosses
You don't have to be at the recommended level for anything
well i just recommended two without knowing that
it ain't that hard
Let me rephrase. It's hard to make appropriate reccs without knowing what games they enjoy

well - we talked about children of morta earlier
it's pretty cool - you could try that
get brigador if you want some grade A
or katana zero for even more
steam's automated recommendations sure are funny
"because you recently played disco elysium....dying light 2"
okay
i remember it recommending me FNAF that one time
for some goddamn reason
the interactive recommendation are much better
it also tells you how much time total you played lol
like...
what in my steam library prompted the bot to recommend me that?
oh yeah i like the dynamic recommendation thing a lot
it would take a dozen of the finest minds of our generation to figure out that puzzle
i have 2770 hrs....
oh
hey, some people have that amount of hours on one game, which makes me feel better lol
my total time is cough cough 8923 hours cough
across 10 years of having a steam account lol
ive had it for 7
im surprised steam didn't recommend you cyberpunk 2077 based on those hours alone
also, here are the games that i bought this sale
lol, it recommended me detroit become human (cyberpunk) based on transistor and the red strings club ...
outer wilds
steam can't stop recommending me hades
"players like you love this game" gee ya think
i always forget to tell it i've already played it
steam was like
Hey! You seem to be avoiding bad games!
You should try Detroit: Become Android
yeah steam recommendation system has a bad case of...
taking stuff too literally
"You played Quake recently - you should try Battlefield 2042"
like - i get how you got to that conclusion, but you couldn't be more wrong
deciding between getting ascent or haven rn 😶
hmmmm what should I get for the steam summer sale
most of my stuff is coming soon
so yeah damn it!
I can get CarX Drift Online whatever, Get to the orange door or idk
or Project Wingman
Thank God AI the Nirvana initiative is far from a mainstream game
I swear that If i get spoilers of that game I become an Hermit
Haven imo
Damn, Gordian Quest is finally out of EA
Somnium Files is at 8, it's a must have for VN fans
Has anyone played this game? Sounds interesting
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1451940/NEEDY_GIRL_OVERDOSE/
I just downloaded gacha immortal and deleted it right after bc google play promised 5 cents worth of points if I did that
probably the few people to have made money off this game
ok, thats it, not buying any more games this sale. this is all i wanted for now
lol, i went into the sale with a list of games i wanted to get, and i did get them, but then i also got outer wilds which wasnt on the list
well it shoulda been so no harm done
Outer wilds is the best game present
I need a 3d perspective shooter with a unique artistic aesthetic
I got portal 2
But i didnt read my friend wanted to play postal 2 till i sent him the screenshot lmao
Oh well is not like is a bad game lmao
- cheap so

80% discount

Va11-ha11-a is pretty great, I'm sad the sequal has been delayed indefinitely
kinda reminds me of that u-play asspop --41% discount
legendary
Squeenix has announced "story focused NFTs". Wow. Way to unite all fandoms against a company...
That's a nice line up of games!
i also got two gifts from my brother just now
the descendant and the council
anyone played those?
I’m so glad they sold off their western IPs to the embracer group
Deus keks, tomb raider, thief and legacy of kain
Have fun with your NFTs, square
Good_riddance.mp3
lmao halo infinite flopped so hard that they are bringing microtransactions to MCC
god I hate 343
Wait what
currency
Yeah I know, but …
infinite flopped so they’re adding MTX to flippin remakes?
To a bunch of other games ?
“Hey guys - people don’t want to play our new quake game - what should we do?”
“I know! Let’s add predatory monetisation systems to that other quake everyone likes!”

You gotta give me some sauce for that @ocean iris
That's the one thing they shouldn't do
Make a good game first and foremost instead of trying to squeeze money out of your buyers
But this is like …
Punishing players for liking your game because your next one failed
It’s be like transistor getting MTX because pyre didn’t sell as well
its dum
It's Squeenix president logic, levels of uh...logic

What is Microsoft's strategy
Complete world domination
everyone, buy Lobotomy Corp and Library of Ruina. thanks.
I've got $11 in SteamBux™️ left after picking up Skullgirls
was vaguely eyeing Wargroove but not completely sure yet
What are the games like? I only know library by that song (string theocracy)
the two games have very different gameplay, but the stories are connected.
so its recommended to play in order.
the games are hard, and youre expected to fail and restart runs, so i guess kind of roguelite
I have finished hotline miami 2
lobotomy corp is about managing a facility where you contain SCP-ish beings and send your employees to work on them. they'll die. a lot
library of ruina is card game kinda like slay the spire
story is really good
i guess you can youtube the story of 1st one, if you just want to play the second one
Dope
Now do it upside down on hard mode
It's already too hard
i love this trailer. really captures the experience lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbN40vpse0k
Lobotomy Corporation is Monster Management Simulation Game
Now Available on STEAM
Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/568220
HomePage: http://www.lobotomycorp.kr/
Naaaah
You can do it
see - the trick to beating HM2 on hard is that...
there's no trick
there isn't much you have to learn or master
you just have to be stubborn enough and beat it OUT OF SPITE!
despite all the bullcrap the game throws at you
get angry
GET MAD!
i don't want your damn shotgun!
i'll beat the everloving crap out of everyone with my
hands!
and boom - hard mode done
Pump everything into their Xbox/Xbox Game Pass stuff and watch the world burn.
and watch the world burn.
wait - i thought that was the lizard man's strategy
the zucc
or was it the blue bird's?
oh wait, no - that's ActiBlizz...ckstar...arts...soft
evilcorp
basically, yeah
i will give you the benefit of the doubt that you didnt know but calling jewish people lizardmen is literally antisemitic propaganda, which is absolutely not allowed in this server.
wait what
is that really a thing?
i was just poking fun at mark zuckerberg's slip up
you know - when he said "i was human... i mean - i am... still"
well crap - i didn't know that was even a thing
sorry about that
Had no idea that's been used for that
yeah same
I call him shameless data seller and leave it at that

well this is awkward
how do we go back to fun bideo gaem stuff after that kerfuffle?
just start talking about them, i'm assuming
aight then
GLOOMWOOD!
nah but seriously now - i haven't been this hyped for a game since... 2018? 19?
to the point that i might even replay both thief games in preparation to just the early access release
I got Children of Morta today

Holy crap, it really is Diablo, like, fit to a T
i mean - not quite
but it's like...
And it's kinda addictive, too
it's really good at translating those early D1 and D2 feels... just without the loot
if that makes any sense
do yourself a favor - play it in co-op with someone
get a buddy of a family member or hell - teach your dog how to hold the dualshock
just get someone
I'll do that uh...sometime in the near future 😅
it makes the whole game so much better
Tiny little issue, I'm playing it on the Switch Lite
wait
oh yeah i was about to ask what platform you're on
does this game even have online co-op?

If it was any other model, it would be a cinch, but this one plays on a not-that-big screen and it cannot be connected to a PC nor to the TV
just wait till you get to one of those challenges that require you to kill all enemies in the zone and then one of them decides that teleporting into a wall is a totally reasonable and cool thing to do
and just sits there
can't hit em, they can't hit you
and it's just

it... has some minor bugs
teeny tiny bugs
the sounds like to bug the hell out too when there's a lot of enemies
and there can be...
A LOT of enemies on the screen at the same time
jesus christ there can be so many corpses around you
Don't worry, already died on the first dungeon, like, three times
Do not underestimate the power of patience and perseverance
oh - it's fine
it does the hades thing where death is almost mandatory to progress the story - cause it gets you back to your house where story develops
and as you do you unlock new characters to play as
and they're so varied that sooner or later you're gonna find someone who fits your playstyle
or you can always hop on over to the roguelite mode and Getrekt as you test out all the characters to see who fits best
also - while we're talking children of

screw the desert zone
and it's traps
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Ree, our former head mod, has recently confessed to spending the remaining $27.6k CAD of zine funds on personal use. Ree has been entirely removed from the project.

😶
Who what where?
apparently 'ree' used the funds on genshin impact purchases
jeez nearly 30k
It's a real shame they can't take legal action
Because I would have done that first thing in the morning
I hate scammers, liars and people that mindlessly spend money on gacha with a burning passion, and this person has all of the above
yeah sucks that there's nothing that can be done. since you never really expect someone to steal thousands and thousands of dollars for anime pictures
on genshin, no less?
jeez - this is... sad
like - here's a person with a gambling addiction or impulsive spending problem or something
Not just anime pictures, it's glorified slots with anime pictures
That's like ten thousand times worse
and genshin's all like "we've got our whale!"
"we're gonna make more off of that one person than 30000 other players combined!"
gatcha makes me sick. it's really just a way to prey on people with gambling addictions and impulsive behavior problems.
yeah
I wish more countries took legal action against that, like Belgium did
real talk now
i... know a person with a borderline personality disorder
proper case, she's getting better now
and reading stuff like this makes me glad she's not much of a gamer
because stuff like this would've made months of therapy so, so much worse
yeah it really just messes with people who are vulnerable
i'm glad the person you know is getting some help
Wait which community is this? Not genshin, the one the tweet comes from
Don't really know, but for what I've got it's some kind of fan project related to Persona 5?
that's what it looks like
Zine? What's that?
my thoughts exactly. I struggle with spending habits and it's a uniquely humiliating experience
not sure but apparently a lot of popular fandom writers and artists joined the project, hence the immense amount in funds
wasn't it the failed microsoft ipod competitor... thing?
digital or physical mini-magazine
I once bought one on American cults
oh that kind of zine
Ah, short form of magazine 🤔
lmfao
wow - i haven't read any of those in such a long time
i thought this stuff went extinct in the age of social media
they've come back with a vengeance! as seen with this person spending $27k US on genshin
ye
I remember how infamously bad some game guides were back then
I still see gaming magazines being sold at the newspaper shops around here lmao. I gotta wonder who's buying them
One had a guide about Final Fantasy X and it pretty much skipped 94% of the important stuff
It was the definition of shabby
OH GOD
this reminds me of that one IGN guide that was so wrong people made it a challenge run to finish a game using this guide
like
does anyone know what im talking about?
what was the game?
GOT IT!
it was bloodborne
of course it was freaking bloodborne
After years of saying I use the IGN strategy guide, I actually use one.
I'm going to be real here, it was very hard to read every single page in full detail and keep everything smooth - I GOT A LOT OF THINGS WRONG!!! THERE ARE POINTS IN THE GUIDE WHERE IT SAYS THE SHIELD IS INFACT USELESS AMONG OTHER THINGS ECT!!!! This is all just meant to be ...

BOYE
Fire that urinalist
just...
2018 Kratos voice
BOI!
BOEH
nah nah nah
Boah! is Arthur Morgan
That's Zune, brother.
It's Tune, but Z because it came dead last.
Pulverizing horses is my favorite pastime.
i mean
credit where credit is due
at least it looked kinda cool
at least - according to that one dank pods video
It looked kinda zane
have you heard how microsoft named some of it's features?
like the one that allows you to share songs with other...
...other unfortunate Zune users?
is it giving you sas?
Shouldn't the language the business world relies on be a lot more elegant than this?
Btw what was it
i can't say - i don't want to get mods any more angy by making accidental sexual jokes
but yeah - they called it
Well you can't start it and not finish
something
good call
-ing
like
how didn't anyone get it would sound so bad?
i can't
i'm doing 12 on monday
I go home and play vidya
besides
i'm doing doom tomorrow
Is this what adulting is like?
Don't you play Doom everyday?
no i mean modding
i'm lagging behind on work
That's on my to-buy list when it drops on Switch
Short but sweet and lots of fun
And old fashioned (kinda), love that
OH YEAH!
i've been meaning to ask
there's a lot of switch owners here
has anyone here played Dusk on switch?
Dusk? 🤔

of of the best boomy shooty games ever made
also - 10/10 soundtrack
but yeah - i've been trying to convince my fren to expand his gaming horizons, so to speak
give different games a shot
got lucky with deus keks (after he got burned on cyberpunk
oof) and he's got a switch so i thought i could recommend dusk
Looks like Doom in a way
i'm just worried it may feel sluggish on joycons
Haven't played it, don't like FPS games myself
give it a shot
it's so much more than just a shooter
it actually started as an... immersive sim
and some of the systems are still there
i mean - it is a pure blood FPS game - no doubt about it
but don't let the simple looks deceive you
That's the thing, I just don't like the genre, it makes me feel anxious
oh yeah - this one has some serious horror vibes
Then it's unfortunately a pass for me 🤷♂️
and i mean
oof - it may not be pure spooks, but it has some stuff that has some massive implications
and i love it
it's spooks are more about context than content, so to speak
I almost gave Metroid Prime 3 a shot but the controls were pretty jarring for me, on top of the problem I have with FPS
oh - the prime series has a pretty unusual control scheme for a console FPS
dusk has more of your standard modern FPS control scheme
3 in particular, the other two are ok kind of
i'm just curious about the feel
cause you really need this mouse and keyboard 60fps twitchy movement to get through it on hard
and i just wonder if the joycons are up to that task
but yeah - if anything, at least i hope they ported all the accessibility options over from the PC version
cause despite being loud and fast and gory - dusk is still one of the most accessible FPS games out there - making it a great choice for newcomers
at least on PC
and - you know - the more accessibility options we have
the more people can enjoy good viddy
oh well this looks promising

Was about to say, playing Metroid Prime 3 on the Wii is very uncomfortable for me, as you have to constantly aim at the screen with the Wii remote and it's pretty stingy
Doesn't help that my hand is as steady as a flan 😅
maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan
hearing this just makes me yearn for the prime trilogy to be ported to VR
it would be awesome
but also a bit
from all that jumping and what not
anyways
imma just post this here

and go back to eating moldy cheese in a pitch black bathroom while waiting for gloomwood to finally come out
buhbye
Agro is the best mount in gaming
Due to the mixed reception I sometimes forget the last guardian is an exceptional game, brilliant to a point which few games can compare
Fumito Ueda truly is the best video game director to make games
Heyyy i've been thinking of getting into the yakuza series what game should i start from? 0? 1 and 2 kiwami?
there should be a ban for games that include the word ‚fall‘ in their name
Roguelite that doesn't have dungeon in its title or description.
this but with "infinite", "forever", or other synonyms
as much as i wanted it to be, doom eternal was in fact not eternal 🙄
those have been around for a couple decades, im talking about newer indie games
for some reason everyone thinks they need to have some kind of [title]mon name in order to be identified as a monster collector, like genuinely just stop
but how else can you ride the nostalgia wave
is hyper light drifter on sale?
Games that I bought a while ago
looks like its not but you should still play it if you haven't
Honestly I'm looking at 20 to dawn, tinyfolks, vampire survivor but they aren't on sale
well playing portal 2, a bit of Pyre everyonce in a while
thinking of playing stardew valley cuz i never finished
But then again they are already $3 a piece lol
yakuza 1 (kiwami is remake of it) is the earliest game, many old fans started here
yakuza 0 is prequel to 1. you can start here too, no problem.
the fans generally regard yakuza 0 as the best story in the series.
play it first and see what the hype is about, or save best for last? your choice
gameplay-wise, they are both very similar, as kiwami 1 was made in the fashion of the successful yakuza 0
evenin
Is gloomwood out yet?
yes

that should have shocked him into the afterlife and ended the suffering

I've wrecked the code by trying to gamedev.tv myself into this. I'm not yet fit for a multiplayer based job I guess.
The project repo: https://github.com/neosphereinteractive-real/FlightReplication/tree/dev-vivraan-fix-rep
If you do take a look at it, please only focus on the two latest commits from my branch.
I'm replying to my older message for highlighting the stuff I've already said earlier about the project.
why, oh why - in the name of all that's unholy - is my laptop lagging so hard today?
like - i'm trying to fire up firefox and it's sweating like it's running modded crysis
just
oh, right
i see now - it's massivesoft's dingdongs 10 downloading a bunch of updates
of course
Oh don't worry, I've just been tortured by being forced to face a full Code Talker combo into an Extra Link and then an OTK that lasted almost ten minutes...and I could do absolutely nothing about it
(Yu-Gi-Oh btw)
WOW
i seriously thought you were talking about MGS V
until you said it's yu gi oh
that's...
that's both hilarious and kinda sad
This losing streak makes it even worse 😭
You know it's kinda crazy to think how many westaboos exist just like weeaboos
Obviously Kojima being the leader of westaboos but like I read some stuff in manga and was a character of a girl obsessed with western games
spot the refferences
ygo power creep is absolutely unhinged
so 👏
i just had the absolute pleasure of checking out all the early dusk stuff
unreleased beta builds, unused assets, dev stuff - the works
it was amazing - i love this sort of stuff
Steam Deck or Switch?
PC
but i already have a PC
albeit an old one but it runs everything i want, except for the crashes :(
good
it runs all it needs to then
but yeah - those early dev builds
it was so much fun to explore all the files and see how this game evolved
i'd be great if more devs did this sort of stuff
:<
i have a switch and dont use it much because you sort of need to rebuild your library and nintendo game sales are ehh, it also depends on what games you are interested in - like, if you want the exclusives, yknow
with steam deck you already have the games, right? and if you go out a lot and want to take your existing library with you
i'd love to get a steamed deck, buuuuuuuuutttt...
1 - i'd rather save this money in this current... super stable economy
and 2 - i'm scared of being an early adopter
this stuff rarely goes well
theyre also not worldwide yet i believe
i'd rather wait for them to iron all the kinks out and maybe release a second hardware revision or something
Steam Deck def better fits me
but I can't buy a Deck while I can buy a Switch
"can't" as in by the time I get my Deck might as well buy a Deck 2 lol
Okay, but like what if the deck goes on sale for 50% this summer sale
50%?
that's a bit too much - i doubt they're gonna go this low
especially considering they're already not asking much for the tech they crammed in there
i kinda want a steam deck but i dont leave the house much, its better to just upgrade my pc
though that profile theme that comes with it is so cool
i'd use it as my pc
Hey same but I want to play on my bed lmao
Honestly, why not. It plays old triple A and every indie titles
i even play my switch at my desk lol, i dont like lying down much when im #gaming
even though thats half the point
And web browisng, basic stuff can be done with docks
i have a second display
i already have a drawer full of pointless dongles
just chain them together and
I've never had the experience haha
Well ig not true bc i own a psp but that's so long ago
Also remember the console war?
console tribalism rly ruined gamers lol
Well I don't bc I've been playing PC stuff since 1996 xD
yeah
who, me?
does watching my dad play final fantasy and dragon warrior on nes count
well - i started with a whole bunch of nes games on a knockoff nes and i can barely remember most of them outside of your usual contras and marios and what not
but then my first two PC games were the first Diablo and RE
which i played at the age of... 6
THANKS MOM!
i've been flip-flopping between PC and consoles - owning both for most of my life
but i've been always more of a PC
Aw, hey same, i watched my neighbor play Battle City on NES
And then I watched basically a cousin playing Army Man RTS on PC
first game i played for myself that got me into gaming was the walking dead game s1 when i was like, 13
Which is how everything truly started
isn't that game like 7 years old?
wait
hang on
If you are over 23 you are practically a boomer
yo i wish i was 23
me too
So, 12?
23 was a good year
2012 was just a better time
yo i wish
no job, no bills to pay, no rent
mom's food was good, games were good
Too real man, too real

Though i was also a hormonally raging kid at 12 so there's that
also, do people have online friends they game with on the regular?
i did
most of them kinda went
and now i mostly play couch co-op with one fren i've known for over 25 years

not always multiplayer games, but we will stream games to each other
its honestly even more fun
yeah
but now i have trouble playing games on my own, i always want to stream it :P
StS with another person is fun as hell
i kinda wanna get into streaming proper
on twitch
the first game i'd stream would be Deus Keks just... completely BORKED with mods
and a randomizer slapped on top
back when nier replicant came out, we were on call basically all day every day until i finished it which took a long time, but was super fun, because we love that game
good gaem
yeah it hurts though when you can't play with friend when you see them online
that fishing minigame tho
cant tell if you are talking Hades or Nier

Nier
also - while fishing in hades was alright
RE4 still had a way, way better fishing system
But resident evil 4 was an actual good game
a bit 🪴
where did my : boring : emote go?
i typed in : boring and got a 🪴

OH it's "bored"
the new replicant combat is p good
speaking of
or Ghost in the Shell?
ummm toylogic??
platinum only did automata
I keep meaning to complete replicant I stopped partway through
i love lunar tears
they were such a big deal in nier
and then you fire up automata and it's just...
it took me like a week or two just to do that
it's just there
sitting in a dark corner
Speaking of platinum games
What game have you played that you would say has the best combat
people are probably gonna go DMC 3 or 4 or 5
which i haven't played
so i'm gonna say metal gear rising
or - unironically - RE6
while it's a garbage game...
it has one of the best third person shooting mechanics this side of vanquished
It doesn't have to be platinum style combat just overall
it's basically John Wick with zombies...
...on bath salts
but yeah - i know RE6 scares people away
and rightfully so
monster hunter combat is pretty cool
Not even 5
but if you're looking for some air-tight stylish combat - give it a shot
ditch that cover system and just do gun-kata with zombies
for turn based combat (cause "the best combat" is so impossibly broad) I'd probably go xcom 2
Real time action
No Fromsoftware?
not until their game start hitting consistant 60 with proper frame pacing and no phantom inputs
sekiro's really good
sekiro is good
no
I would say sekiro has the best melee combat of any game that isn't shadow of the colossus
SOTC?
wot?
like - don't get me wrong
i love SOTC
but this game has an... intentionally barebones combat system
it's more of an acupuncture simulator
barebones can still be good
Not barebones, elegant
oh come on - let's be real here
let's not be afraid to call spade a spade
SOTC has one sword swing - which is barely used
and a loooooong and awkward stab
and a bow
doesn't necessarily mean it's bad though
i dont play a lot of games that have focus on combat so out of everything ive played, maybe elden ring..? its certainly very satisfying
doesn't mean it's great or even good either
sekiro does look amazing
good /=/ many options
I wonder if elden ring is now anyone's favourite Fromsoftware game
PLAY BLOODBORNE
right now

FromSoft fans trying not to mention Bloodborne at any given opportunity
it's like clockwork
i know
here is where i would play bloodborne.... if it was on pc
im not much of a fromsoft fan
but i absolutely love this game
i am not buying Another console just for one game again
yo i wish bloodborne was on PC
elden ring is definitely the one I've played the most of at this point
even though I have some very major gripes but I have that with almost all their games I've played except sekiro
Buy it for shadow of the colossus
just let me hit stable framerates for once, damn it
i can play that on ps2
True...
Bloodborne takes it's time to load
But I suppose not dying is a suitable solution
yo it's BAAAAAAAAARELY hanging on the PS4
like - when you get to old yharnam you can hear it slowly dying
you can literally hear the game going ghhhhhhhhrrrrrrrr

That is not the sound of death but determination
dmc5 combat is really amazing though. just watch people style on the final boss, sooo good
It's visually interesting
i follow dmc5 just for the memes
I've encountered someone of the opinion that 3rd person melee action games are better with a stationary camera
also - i love Maxor's summary of DMC5
it's a game about Vergil hiring Vergil's brother and Vergil's son to defeat Vergil so that Vergil can become Vergil: featuring Vergil

Even more brilliant than DMC: devil may cry
wish i can play like that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47DvD05Qdy8

Wait wasn't that game good
Not quite cinematic enough
The choreography isn't very neat
really cool how they barely repeat the same attack the whole fight, and all the parry timings
pulling taunts in between
If you feel old, little me's first portable console game was Pokémon Crystal
idk what my first games i played myself were but they were definitely nes and gameboy games back in the early 90s lol
and i got gifted a snes for christmas one year, wasnt new though it was second hand from someone with a bunch of games, which was p much most of the games i ever owned for it
i remember getting a ps1 when i was 8
and on the first day of me having it the neighbour kid came over and tried to rip the disc out and completely obliterated the drive
i swear to god i turned into gordon ramsay there for solid 2 hours
i was throwing so many swear words at him that - to this day - i'm surprised i knew so many even back then
we're talking Terrence Fletcher from Whiplash levels of
it wasn't even much about the console
i knew my mom could barely afford it but she somehow got it and i was super grateful for it
and here in comes this kid and just nukes the whole drive
but she somehow found someone who fixed it in less than a week and it was all good ||love you mom
||
and i was a sony fanboy till about... ps3?
my mom told me that vidya is evil
i mean - yeah - i heard my fair share of that too
Sony is still at the top in respect to games
If only they weren't exclusive
oh yeah the one sony exclusive worth playing at 25
please...
The last of us?
bloodborne
Objectively you used objectively wrong
