okay, i'll try a sales pitch

set across different time periods ( 1940, 1980, and more), there are 13 protagonists who face an impending doomsday threat.
you switch between these characters and their perspective, try to piece together the mystery behind these crazy events, in a nonlinear narrative.
there's some combat gameplay which is kinda a variation of tower defense. it's alright. but the narrative is definitely the bigger focus.
the author loved scifi classics and this game is a love letter to the genre. you'll see stuff inspired by E.T, War of the Worlds, Terminator, and maybe others I dont recall. and the writing works really well!

2. you are able to retreat into a corridor and it becomes hard but not insane
3. free exp and if anything you deliberately seek them out

with god trial rooms there is one step, and it is panic

super's monster houses are the worst by far tho because they force you into the middle and if you don't pay attention to requests you get jumped thinking you're just trying to get a job done which is not fun

I don't think you can teleport in Hollow Knight but that's pretty roguelike and requires good knowledge of combat and movement to survive. There's also Hyper Light Drifter but I don't know too much about that game myself, just that it also relies on combat and movement and you can take five hits before you die permanently, I believe

it's got a church of dog, a bar where you can buy a radioactive revolver.
a casino which lets you roll for more dumb random effects, a black mesa lab which lets you play a simulated boss rush mode, bunch of friendly NPCs with RPG dialogue (one of them is like 30 pages long ) and dog hell where you get chased by a horde of german sheperds till you die while midi "master of puppers" plays in the background with barks and borks in place of guitar and vocals

i hate how people took 2019 for granted as a year for good game releases back then

looking back on it, it had absolute great games like:
Control, Sekiro, Outer Wilds, DMC 5, Fallen Order, Disco Elysium, RE2, Metro Exodus, Ace Combat 7 etc.

though for me the spookiest level was the infernal machine
not because of any jump scare, mind you

but more because of its context and just soul-crushing atmosphere

you're crawling through rust-covered guts of a giant industrial machine built only to inflict pain in the most inhumane way possible
a machine so old, yet so efficient at what it's doing... some parts of it started to twist and deform to look like parts of a human skeleton

it feels like this machine is a living thing itself
and you're stuck inside of it

Yes but I would recommend not playing with them on your first playthrough.

You can enable them on the same save file later.

The base game is good and if you really like it you can buy DLCs later with no downside.

The Gunk is out on Steam, I highly recommend it. It's quite short (5-6) hours, but a good experience.

It's really impressive considering that the team used to do 2/2.5D games and here they've managed to pull out such a beautifully looking 3D world!

From my experience, THQ Nordic usually gets done old IPs, ports it for the quick cash, and then leaving the game to rot. Either that, or they just have very poor management that affects their software support
