i think ori's general story is decent but my god the presentation is 15/10
Ye
The graphics arent impressive but they're so well made that theyre absolutely beutiful
i love artistic graphics
hollow knight's also not very impressive but really beatiful
Ye
Im really cobfused on what to do on hollow knight rn lol
Im bad at metroidvanias
But good at rougelike/lites and rpgs
i have 169 hours at hollow knight
Nice
the only ending I couldn't get is godhome
The rest is mediocre or others
the last challenge was too much for me
I cant even progress lol
i am good at metroidvanias but i check the secret stuff a little too much
the first time I finished I had over 60 hours
my big bro tried to play it but couldn't understand where tf he was on map lmao
Icould only stop using wayward compass after like 12 hours
the most far I went in godhome was Vessel
that dude slapped me outta reality
Bonk
i think they brought a bot from twitter
lul
Pain
just a reminder, please dont evade the swear filter!
I got it for free
binding of isaac
dead cells
hades
And then epic said nu and auto deleted it
lol
And i had to buy it
I have those too
the DLC i was talking about was Repentance for BoI
there are over 30+ damn characters
I have most decent metroidvanias and roguelites/likes
Ik
I got the full version i already have all the dlc
i got afterbirth and +
in the last discount
i have hollow knight and ori as metroidvanias
my friend gifted me war of mine in my birthday and I still haven't played it
lmao
Lol
Hades mught be my most played game
And thats alot since i have short attention span until i forget or get bored of a game
Have u played borderlands
I got a feeling Borderlands turned a lot of girls lesbian with that awesome character design
Probably lmao
i have borderlands 2
played only for 26 hours tho
I have 2 and 3
i really cant find the courage to continue
Ive pkayed 3 alot but without the quility of life changes of 3 its pain to play 2
i am still listening to hades menu music
a lot of people complain about how bad the story is in BL3
Ye
hades or bl2
It is
Hades
i've played for 44 hours
Oh
Since u were listening to the menu musoc i thoight u just got it
I dum
Also i just accidentally switched my keepsake so f
nah its just so damn good
hey wtf i had progress with aspect of beawulf
now i no
Did the autosave forget to pop before the end of your last session?
The other day saw someone streaming mgr and the chat was either full of quotes or full karaoke mode as soon a boss started the lyrics
Is a great experience lol
unironically i cant believe this game's parrying system filters me so hard
i think it was designed for controller
lmao
According to the internet MGR is a game that deals about people throwing iconic quotes to each other while Heavy Metal sounds into the background
Gotta hand it to PG tho.
Making a singleplayer game still remembered and referenced almost a decade after it came out is quite meritorious
The only game that was its contemporary that I can think of who managed to do that, even if to a lesser extent was Deus Ex: Human Revolution, whose quotes can still be referenced and acknowledged 10.5 years later
lmao at Rules of Nature
MGR is a game, much like No More Heroes 3, where the developers don't care about anything other than pure, awesome, style; and making the player feel like a badass
and god dang it, we need video games like that
Raiden suplexing the metal gear that was supposed to be a tutorial boss really was cool
that counts as a suplex?
How do I meet Thanatos
According to the wiki, Thanatos can be found ||in Elysium after fighting either Alecto or Tisiphone for the first time (does not have to be in the same run)||
After you find him the first time, he's much easier to find afterwards
Yo
Yee
Don’t you fight Alecto and tisiphone in Tartarus
Imo tisiphone is the hardest fury sister
Meg is the easiest
This is the general video games channel, if you’d like to chat about hades you can do so in #h1-discussion or one of the many other hades channels
Ok
I believe any throw that uses the back/torso as the fulcrum -- rather than the hip or shoulder -- constitutes a suplex.
but... raiden didn't even touch the back/torso..?
The thrower's midsection
I'm looking for a game that makes me happy like Terraria and Stardew Valley. 🥰
Don't Starve/Don't Starve Together maybe?
Maybe, i played it a little. Almost forgot about it.
A compilation of my adventures in the Animal Crossing DLC. I ended up playing through the entire thing, and had a ton of fun twisting villager's requests in cursed and funny ways. Hope you enjoy!
streams: https://twitch.tv/skurrypls
thanks for designing
The vid is hilarious
lmao I've thought about doing that to villagers in HHP 🤣
best part of hhp is that if i like a request or how something looks then i can spend time on it and go back to it and go all out.
(like one of my favourite old villagers turned up early on and as i keep unlocking new features i keep adding to his house)
and if i don't feel like it i can spam an item, maybe put some wallpaper up, and leave.
I do a daily question in one of my servers and today's feels appropriate for cross posting
What videogame defined your childhood
For me it was super mario world snes
The Sly Copper Trilogy
I know there is a fourth game and is good but that came much later
mario kart
Crash Bandicoot 2 on PSX, great platformer, I still like it and play it to this day.
Pokémon, but I don't like it anymore because I don't like the way the franchise has been going as of late
Army Men: RTS
It defined the type of games I play now.
Also it was the golden age of RTS, so Army Men: RTS was the gateway drug to Red Alert, Starcraft, Warcraft, etc.
huh
i kinda expected it to be some sort of roguelike
also
hi
Probably warcraft 3 and Age of Empires 2
Hiii
definitely the sims 1. i was absolutely obsessed with that game
the sims 1 making magic is the best video game that's ever been made fyi
half life 1 and 2
idk if this counts as a video game but wizard 101
i wasnt allowed to play video games as a kid
first fps for me was unreal tournament 2004 i think
Does anyone know any 4 player local multi-player games on Xbox game pass or that's free for Xbox in general?
Overcooked 2 is on game pass
Is it multi-player local
Yeah, it's a family coop thing about cooking
4 player coop with any combo of online or local participants
Tetris Effect Connected is also on there with 4 player coop
not sure about defined but i really loved sonic and the black knight on the wii
Coming back and thinking about this conversation really makes me come to conclusion I don't really have a game that defines my childhood. Too many games, lot's of fond memories.
Diablo, RE1, OpFor demo on PC at an age of 6
Contra,
hunt, Mario before that
yeeaahhh im with wok i think. like sure i could name my favourite games as a kid but i can't think of any one that necessarily defined that period of life, and in fact i'm not even sure what that would even mean to me lmao. though for my pre-teen/teen years i could say ff9 without a doubt but before that.... not really sure tbh
Half Life OpFor players
At times it makes me think it's better than base Half Life but the original half life is just too memorable
Imagine this
In a few more years, Fortnite, League, MC, etc. become valid answers to this question xD.
I didn't even think that deep and just threw out a game I liked lol
half life discussion 👀
good? yes
better than the base game? eeeeeehhh
i'd argue against that
i remember it scaring the crap out of me when i was
what part exactly
barnacles
Debating whether to play the half life vr mod or not
Never played any game in the half life series before and I don’t handle horror well
half life vr?
that doesn't sound janky at all
go for it
wait
hang on
does this mod run on goldSRC Half Life or Half Life Source?
pretty sure the original engine
oh god
i mean
i just can't even imagine how VR support would look like on an old, janky engine like that
don't get me wrong - i love all old idtech derivatives
but they weren't really designed with Loosy-goosy wibbly-wobbly vr movement in mind
also
those weird goopy alien jump pods in surface tension would make me go
OH GOD
IMAGINE PLAYING THE XEN CHAPTER IN VR
aight ok i quit in the first 30 minutes of bioshock im def not playing half life then 💀
why not?
seems very scary
by as scary as metro or doom i mean not at all
Diablo 1-2, StarCraft, Pokémon gen1, FF7. Never owned a console in my childhood, all my gaming was on PC
Would add Ratchet and Clank to the list of games that made my childhood
Wii Sports Resort
Well over 1500+ hours on that stuff
LOVED THIS GAME
my sib and i played this and mario kart wii all the time when we were younger
super mario galaxy 2 was also great but i was v bad at it lol
Pokepark. God, my sister and I replayed that game over and over again like it was nobody's business. My sister is currently playing through Pokepark 2, and she doesn't consider herself a gamer, but she'd highly invested in this game lmao
This game was so fun
Finally started playing Hyper Light Drifter and A) love it and B) I'm starting to love roguelikes in general!
second the fact, wii sports resort was great
neverwinter nights 2 got me interested in rpgs in middle school, so i’d say it counts as a defining game too
They got a second one???
Sonic Colors
sometimes reddits has gold
next thing we know, she's gonna explain what double rainbow is
BIG day for annoying lor likers (me) https://youtu.be/VeU5OcJ5njE

As of late March 2023, it will no longer be possible to make Nintendo eShop purchases for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

How long did Sony give people for the theoretical PS3 shop shutdown?
It seems weird that Nintendo will have now shut down 3 consoles' worth of digital shops without backlash before Sony shuts down 1 due to backlash. All this despite the fact that 2 of thise Nintendo consoles are more recent than the PS3.
wow cant believe the my 3ds is soon to be more useless than it actually already is
Switch to Steam Deck (haha get it)
thank god one of my 3ds runs homebrew lol
The PS3 backlash was understandable, some, if not most, of the exclusive games that came on the system is still stuck there
While the Wii U… well, idk if most people even want a Wii U
The Wii U was good
i got a wii u bc i skipped wii :/ not intentionally mind you, but for a while the wii was hard to find and after hunting around my area for ages i just stopped caring about it. with giftcards and employee discount i got like. one of those deluxe wii u bundles for a bit over 100usd so all in all it was a good deal regardless. i enjoyed what i played of it since my last nintendo console was the gamecube but i def didnt put anywhere remotely close to the time in it i did the gamecube
tbh i dont think ive really touched it since uhhh... well i think i pulled it out a year or two ago to play some wii games but besides that maybe since about 2017ish lol
Right around when the Switch came around? Lol
it was cool while i worked somewhere with 1hr lunch breaks at any rate, just set up the console in the break room and played on the pad rofl
i dont own a switch either ¯_(ツ)_/¯
honestly i havent really been much of a console gamer at all since roughly 2016ish, i didnt really have any way with my setup at the time to play comfortably for more than a couple hours so i just preferred gaming at my desk. and if im at my desk, well, may as well use my pc...
my desk is not large enough to contain my monitors and console peripherals so like. i just didnt bother
The Wii U has a ton of Virtual Console titles that haven't been ported over
But hey, if they don't want me to pay for their games, no skin off my nose
didnt like every console have different virtual console selections...
and then like some snes ones were for 3ds ambassadors only and stuff like that. stupid
Aren’t people just resort to emulating these older Nintendo titles nowadays?
people have always emulated them
but if given the option to do it officially a lot of people like to do that
except ninty makes you jump through a dozen hoops to offer things like older titles or soundtracks (ahem) through official means
so yeah then people look elsewhere
Well, what I meant was, the titles that were stuck on the PS3, really did stuck there, as even emulation options for the PS3, well, last time I checked, the PS3 was still very hard to emulate
Meanwhile, the older Nintendo stuffs, if all else fails, emulation would still be very viable, if not official
oh cool i just double checked and virtual console indeed never got released on switch, so next year is officially the death of virtual console rofl. gg
Yeah, that is sad though ngl
Especially when their alternative to the Virtual Console on the Switch was the NSO, a subscription-type service that barely gets updated with new (old) titles
really cannot state enough how much i loathe that ninty switched to online subscription service
like. we're already paying for internet?? and then you make people pay extra to play games they already paid for online?? how is this acceptable. like okay i know xbox started this and its just a norm but please
Nintendo:
Makers of good games and bad business practices
you cant call nintendo out for bad practices on that when all they were doing is following the trend, albeit incredibly late
its still dumb
but at least xbox and playstation offer fairly good subscription service, and ninty has..... hm.
thats where you can call out the bad business practice for the subscription service
yeah, Nintendo Online is inexcusable right now
and I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy
no defending that
Just pirate
Ez
^^
what if I don't want peg leg?
peg leg and blind eye are optional
loving the high seas is required thogh
come to think of it, sea is actually quite low in term of altitude
has anyone tried r6 extraction yet?
considering getting it with a $10 epic coupon
or should i get back 4 blood instead
Deep Rock Galactic
so by no longer possible to make eshop purchases does that mean we can still perfectly legally and legitimately get free games or do i have to get everything i want before
I would assume the latter, but I'm not sure
saw japanese text and a lynel in botw, expected some ungodly 3 hour long devil may cry combo sequence, received tom and jerry episode https://t.co/w8imWvg7zL

Yoooo are they getting rid of attack triggering rides
God. Why are the preload's instructions so complicated?
i hope not, actually, i don't like it when everyone else also stops attacking in time and there's that awkward pause where everyone waits for someone else to do something
Im considering buying B4B bc my non PC friend can play it on his PS5
Hey, I had an origin pc laptop, that my motherboard apparently fried a month outside of warranty and Origin wants me to pay them 900 to get it fixed plus work, plus shipping.
oh that's brutal
also after looking online at complaints and you have to look pretty hard
this is pretty common from what I'm seeing
fair
That they either break just outside warranty or they ship broken and make you wait for months to get it replaced.
so just don't order from them would be my advice to anyone
Ah yes, I felt kinda bad when I had to get rid of invaders by vacuuming their rooms
ngl watching people play ftl is so fun but i'd never play it myself
how so
just seeing how they go about strategizing
some games just really arent your cup of tea for whatever reason but watching other people play that thing is entertaining enough
im that way with horror games tbh. i will never play a horror game but i'll binge playthroughs of them if i'm in the mood
same, actually, like i'm a huge coward but other people playing them is great.
i mean horror games tend to be fun? for me to like look at all the mechanics and how they work and how to strategise. but seeing as i'd never touch one i gotta go for watching others
Same! I love any horror media other than movies and games lmao
I actually finished quite the interesting horror game yesterday
Re:Turn 2 Runaway
It was short but enjoyable
I liked the first one too
ayo what mod is this
looks great
me want
grew up a let's play youtuber kid 😗 ✌️ that's not a brag that's a sigh of defeat
I have that Android Google Play Pass thing and managed to find a Slay the Spire "clone" that doesn't run like butts like the actual Android port of Slay the Spire: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.sharklab.rogueadventure&hl=en_US&gl=US
It's infinitely more optimized for mobile but has a few weird F2P shenanigans that are avoided by just having the Play Pass. Maybe check it out. I've been playing it way more than Slay the Spire on mobile
Nah it's just a meme lol
oh lol solid meme
my friends and I had few rounds of L4D2 the other day. We were near safe room when we heard a witch. We chose to ignore the witch. What we didn't expect was the witch was inside the safe room.
ooh i remember the witch she's very spooky
I wasn't aware that was possible
well
that was a first time for my friend
who plays a lot more than me
but that's what happened
man I wish I recorded it
Man hard eight in L4D2 is hard
Took my friends and I one and a half hour to beat hard rain on normal
ok I found a 500 dollar laptop, "HP 14 Laptop, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD Storage, 14-inch Full HD Display, Windows 11 Home, Thin & Portable, Micro-Edge & Anti-Glare Screen, Long Battery Life (14-fq1025nr, 2021) "
it has two ram slots, so once I get my origin pc back I can bring it up to 16gb ram
thoughts
I ended up buying it and it's getting delivered today
8 players? That possible?
AAA games would be hard to run on any $500 laptop.
But indie and older titles should be OK.
Also have you considered the Steam Deck for gaming purposes?
i have a $500 acer that i truly abhor but it can play pyre so if you like that game at least you have that
my budget is like 500 total so I couln't do steam deck and a laptop for school
at least not with how I use laptops lmaoo
And honestly the most intensive game I play would be like hades
I don't typically do triple A
cris tales for free on epic next week 👀
nice
https://youtu.be/hFwAP83MlKs coming out in a month
2D-meets-3D Cyberpunk world of ANNO: Mutationem announce the final released date!
cyberpunk game ive had my eye on for a while
What are triple-A western games that are partially inspired by or reference anime?
doom (2016) is based off a little known anime called "demon slayer"
i finally beat the main storyline of invisible inc... i'm free...
Heh.
ok the computer I brought up earlier is actually really good
oh nice
I'm able to mess around in discord, have a 1080p video going and I'm playing tft
and there ain't even a stutter
which sounds normal for most computers but I've been on a laptop that can't even have 2 tabs open for the last 2 months
The only issue is its windows 11 which is markedly worse than 10
no lol, Hard eight game mode makes the special infected spawn 8 at a time
I kinda wanna start a new Yakuza series playthrough, since I lost my old PSN account and its trophies.
it's co-op
oh snap I don't have the games anymore
Thinking of getting blasphemous cause I like the art and atmosphere a lot, is it very difficult for people new to the metroidvania genre?
Hmm
Sort of?
The combat is pretty tough
But it's not a particular bugbear to navigate
But for what it's worth I don't think it ever felt unfair
Oh okay, the biggest thing was whether it was difficult for the sake of being difficult (bullet sponge enemies/infrequent places to save) but if it's justified/mechanically challenging then that's fine
Ty for explaining
actually i take back what i said about pla
i dont have the game but hmgh ... one character made me change my mind
It's probably the most fun I've had actually playing a Pokemon title in ages
I've got my pound of nitpicks, alongside some actual glaring problems, but it's a start
I couldn't beat PLA cause of some serious photosensitivity issues
even the grass tries to seizure you
any recommendation for difficult games? idk hades high heat doesn't feel entertaining for me
This War of Mine, Hollow Knight, Sunless Sea, VVVVVV, The Binding of Isaac, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. On the highest difficulty, Thief Gold is quite challenging. Papers, Please. Pathologic 2, the list goes on...
thankyou
Do any other notable indie devs have an official Discord server?
I tried looking for one of my favorite studios, and they didn't have one.
thats weird because i feel like just about anyone uses discord anymore
which is something i kinda have a love/hate relationship with now that use of forums has fallen off and information is locked to joining discord servers, which are just glorified chat lol
even mobile games have discord servers
even a very small game that's been in the works for close to a decade and has like 3 fans has a discord server
I suppose it depends. Some people like to keep interaction via forums still the most or via emails as mentioned, but I don't know personally any of such developers, but do know an associate of mine who didn't like how some information is kept to Discord servers only, which is fair enough, not everyone likes to have too many servers on their list.
i hate it.
its not just "information is kept to discord" its actively locking information from being searchable and indexed lol do you know how many times ive googled for like a problem im having with a game/hardware and found old forum posts that went unanswered for months or years before someone replied with something that finally worked
the feeling of having a problem with your game and stumbling across a years old forum thread that has the exact solution to your exact problem is an unbeatable feeling
didn’t occur to me that discord servers may be replacing forums
yeah! but people are moving entire communities to discord because hosting your own forums takes money and making a discord server does not. like when i used to play primal carnage there was an old active forum, they also made a discord server, eventually kitchen bots took over the forum and the devs decided to just abandon it and move completely to discord, bc dealing with the forum took resources they couldnt really afford to allot toward it, for as little user activity as it had before the bots took over. and i get that but like... it sucks.
discord seems pretty good for…interactivity, i guess? but it’s easier to search through forums for older, helpful threads…would almost make sense for game devs to maintain both a forum and a server, but i know nothing
discord is just a more organized chat room 😭 like i literally moved to discord back in 2016 from skype
lol i joined discord in 2020, you witness my first real chatroom experience
i remember the move from skype to discord. i cant believe it was that long ago
my experience with forums is that of disaster but it was great to google a tech problem or a gameplay thing and someone from 10 years ago had the same question and got it answered
and yeah you can search things on discord but discord's search feature is... not great, and it'll be a lot to slug through, and you might not even have the right wording to find it
it’s the difference between googling a question and having that question appear in a forum thread vs. trying to find the right key words/phrases to search on discord, which sounds way more frustrating
anyone here play super auto pets also
Doesn’t Discord now have those discussion thread feature now? I haven’t seen it in person but that sounds like it would be solution to the problem
in theory but 1. they're not good and 2. they archive themselves after a certain amount of time
threads are just mini channels, theyre kinda pointless and its why we dont use them
discord and useless unwanted features name a more iconic duo
beijing corn and failure
but anyway, like, steam forums still exist at least but those are a slog to get through if you're searching for anything
im pretty confident the forums will always exist so long as steam does, but so will their reputation as unholy trash heaps
doge
Covid brought me here
and now im 53k+ messages on this server alone
wtf
god damn
5k+ messages, says a lot how much I am used to pop in and out. Been here a while.
Also yeah greatly agreed on Steam forums. It can be helpful but always has Gamers™️ in them no matter what game forum you are looking in.
And Discord overall being Discord. So many useless features still and no proper native moderation tools. Or barely functioning search option.
oh there's a bunch of indie devs that have disco servers. kitfox games is one of them
Yeah a lot. From publishers, to small indies to one person project indies and very small games. It's interesting how the feel of those varies depending on what game or studio it is or number of people there are.
i found out last year, i believe, that the webcomic app that's regularly advertised on tumblr actually has an active forum. also, the mst3k forum i'm part of. i need to use the mst3k forum
they send email updates weekly on whatever discourse on the forum is popular in the moment
they also sent the kickstarter backers a christmas card 🤭
Actually come to think of it I never properly used forums. There used to be one exception and few posts on Steam Forums, but I really am was like limiting myself to steam dm chats in-game chats and Discord for information related to games.
And well video essays but those took off for me quite late in 2019 or so.
I see, kinda pointless like what tatz said
At the risk of necroing (heh), I feel like Reddit's become the more natural evolution of self-hosted forums, while Discord specifically took the social aspect of forums and built up from there.
Reddit has its own massive set of issues, but the experience of searching for specific posts and comments is legitimately pretty good
really? i feel like reddits search feature is horrible
Started playing Hades, my first 5 hours. I only use spear, all other weapons seem to be useless, am I wrong?
@analog nymph this world be great for #h1-for-new-players
oops sorry that's a ping instead of a reply
Just picked up forbidden west, excited to play after work
Playing Wandering Village demo on Steam. This game is absolutely gorgeous! Great city builder, highly recommend to try it!
does anyone here have any suggestions for a good 2ds emulator?
i really wanna play the 2ds pokemon games
Does anyone know the best action/adventure 4 Co op game to play with friends in xbox game pass?
if by 2ds you mean 3ds, use citra, if you mean the ds from 2006 use desmume
citra is kinda convoluted to setup so just
tbf any emulator that can run the pokemon ds games or something
thanks
also while doing research i came across melonds is it any good or should i just stick to desmume?
melonds is ok
i prefer desmume
it's just more straight forward
personal preference
melonds is still in dev so it could be better than desmume at one point
ah ok well thank you again ^^
Random question: are any of the Sherlock Holmes games worth playing?
there are sherlock holmes games?
dunno about the games but i can recommend the books
the hound of the baskervillers is a great one
I like the books, which is why I'm wondering whether or not the games are worht it.
oh i see :D
Frogwares have been making Sherlock Holmes games for years now.
I'd say give it a shot, but I have no idea
isnt frogwares the devs that got into some big debacle last year bc their publisher was stealing their content or whatever
Yeah. The Steam release of The Sinking City was a pirated copy or something.
yes yes yes! crimes and punishment is very fun
I guess I'll consider it, then.
the Herlock Sholmes game is fun too! (Great Ace Attorney Chronicles)
For Detective Type Games in general Ace Attorney is great or Nancy Drew! The AA Trilogy is a bit older and so are the Nancy Drew games but they are lots of fun! There‘s Aviary Attorney which is a Detective Game with birds. It has a really cool artstyle and a good story imo
herlock sholmes is hot
dodger's playthrough was what convinced me to get crimes and punishment, alongside reading the sherlock holmes short stories. very fun game
I've been sufficiently convinced. It's now on my Steam wishlist.
Cherche is based
okay so pirate outlaws is a slay the spire "clone" that is actually pretty good
it borrows a lot of elements from spire, ftl and even darkest dungeon to some extent but delivers those elements in a well executed package
not bad for a $5 purchase on mobile (the game is listed as $1 but it's really $5 with in-app purchase to be enjoyable)
I’ve tried it a long time ago
It’s good, but since it’s on mobile, I haven’t touched it for years now I think
Yeah, for $5 or so, it’s good value
yeah i came in with on expectation but was pleasantly surprised
it's a mobile game "done right"
Man... mobile game standard is low isn't it?
Night of the Full Moon is another example of a mobile game done right, I'd say. It's also similar to Slay the Spire. It's free, both on mobile and Steam, with small DLCs that cost around $1, and because the base game is so well done and already gives a lot of fun, you really want to buy another DLC, since it's so cheap, to try different characters and builds (each DLC is a new character).
^ tried this as well. It’s ok for the most part, but if you’re coming from Slay the Spire, the lack of build variety may throw you off. But the quality is there though, the art is gorgeous, and dev support has been fine during the time I played it, the DLCs are good value
I played a lot of games on mobile before I got my Switch lmao
The race to the bottom; maximum accessibility for entry, and maximum profitability
Really gotta get Slay the Spire ngl, heard only good things about it
I just fell for a bait and switch meme that was about Jetstream Sam
never felt so honored to be trolled
Rick Roll'd?
I'd say....High Frequency Murasama'd
Sounds better than Together Forever'd
But ye spoiled me, now it doesn't work :/
It's still absolutely cool I love Jetstream Sam please hit me up my discord username is Skaraotzky#2739 I love you Jetstream Sam
Anyways I just finished installing Dying Light, time to get scared at night
Have you played Alto's Odyssey and Adventure? Was on mobile, is on Switch now, loved it. Very chilled variation on one-button endless runner.
She is
Played Alto’s Odyssey, not my cup of tea, so I haven’t played the second one. I can see the appeal though, but it’s not for me
It was free on EGS so I tried it
Now maybe using the mouse is harder or something
Cause I keep breaking Alto's neck
my brain crashed reading the first paragraph
Lmao I just woke up, what is up with that essay
@mystic wave sorry have to delete this because of the swear
oh sorry
So hey, don't remember exactly everyone who talked about Cris Tales here but
turns out it's going to be free soon on EGS??
Hasn't been even a year since game's release and it's going there for free already.
Which I guess I found surprising. Makes me wonder if sales didn't go as planned hence why it also went with such free deal so soon.
i heard it didn't get very good reviews, so it makes sense that it's going free
its had mixed rating on steam since it released
seems reviews are fairly unanimous that it was a game with a lot of potential that just couldnt deliver for one reason or another
i had it on my wishlist originally bc art style but removed it after checking into gameplay after it released, wasnt something i felt interested in playing
henlo
hottest take of the year
Fromsoft games are the same one reskinned every half decade.
they also play a lot like roguelites
XCOM is a soulslike?
what is XCOM but a miserable pile of missed shots
recently i replayed XCOM Chimera Squad
it's good
another hot take is that the combat in Chimera Squad is better (though admittedly easier) than XCOM 2
i recently bought a ps4 from a fren
it's got xcom 2 installed
i kinda want to try it, but...
eh - playing a turn-based strategy on a gamepad feels a bit
dunno - maybe it's fine
haven't really had the time to try it
play it on PC or something
but... that's exactly what xcom is for tho
especially modded xcom
oh god...
yeah
they made a XCOM alternative launcher to handle all the mods
bc there are so many of them
the dedication though
well
that's normal where i come from
you come from XCOM?
COD 4 as Death
cause it killed the genre for over a decade
Halo as Conquest
cause it stormed the console FPS market and won it
Half Life 2 as War
(between gameplay and story, tech and art)
and basically any other 7th and 8th gen modern military shooter as Famine
for obvious reasons
wait
you mean in a good way or a bad way?

in a good way
but yeah that's solid
i thought DOOM would be War tbh
Halo as Conquest is actually apt af
oh
classic doom 1 and 2 for their absurd mod support (you basically buy 1 game and get an access to a platform full of amazing free stuff)
half life 1 for its influence, blood for being... well - blood
and quake for shaping the multiplayer side of scootin' and shootin' and other stuff
but then again - all of those are super obvious choices
there's a whole scene of other amazing FPS games out there
hard to fit these games in these categories
I'd say Fury Strife War and Death
teehee
isnt that the Darksider adaptation?
yup
i played darksiders 2 deathinitive edition for free when i had free nitro when the discord game store was a thing
oh nice lol
speaking of cool games
and runnin' and gunnin'
you guys remember Snatcher?
that point and click game kojima made between MG and MGS?
anyways - don't worry if you don't remember
snatcher was this sort of detective point and click game set in cyberpunk dystopia heavily inspired by bladerunner
but filtered through eastern influences and colorful (what we call today) pixelart aesthetic
and it sounded just
anyways - going back to FPS games
recently i played a doom mappack called "Auger;Zenith" that aims to replicate that aesthetic - right down to the OST - but in, - you know - 3d
with demons and stuff
and it's just
i highly recommend it - it runs on anything and basically anyone can play it for free
if you find an idea of exploring this:
https://youtu.be/ZuyUShtcn94?t=217
in 3d appealing - go for it
it's good times
Snatcher is a cyberpunk-themed adventure game written and directed by Hideo Kojima. It was developed and published by Konami. Originally released in Japan for the NEC PC-8801 and MSX2 in 1988, it was remade for the PC-Engine in 1992 and ported to the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1996. It was released for the Sega CD in North America and i...
first time hearing about it

who's doing the OST here?
is it still michael mccann?
doesn't really sound like him tbh
also
look at bradford on that pic
he doesn't look angry
he looks... mildly displeased with the situation at hand
lol true
CLOSE RANGE!?
he is upset that the guy behind him is equipped with beam weapon and max armor while he is stuck with the starting AR
no trigger discipline too

i guess
but its gonna be a while for the next XCOM
Chimera Squad was 2020
and now Firaxis is doing whatever tf Midnight Sons is
it's not like he's gonna hit anything anyway
lol
For a deeper look at the tactical RPG gameplay in Marvel's Midnight Suns, check out this six-minute narrated gameplay walkthrough. It shows off both the card-based combat gameplay as well as the relationship aspect of the story. Marvel's Midnight Suns is due out in March 2022 for PC, PlayStation platforms, Xbox platforms, and Nintendo Switch.

Seriously, this doesnt look good to me
its too gimmicky
like i hate the artstyle, the story (the parts revealed)
the gameplay also seems questionable, no longer gridbase
but now with a card based system
like
please no
bah
don't worry about it
play auger;zenith instead
https://youtu.be/VbyEMFb5xPE?t=108
it's soooooo good
Welcome to Dean of Doom, the show where we give grades to classic and contemporary Doom wads. Why? Because ranking things is fun. Today’s episode will be dedicated to Auger;Zenith, a 22-level megawad released in 2021 as the thirty-seventh entry in the Doomer Boards Projects series. Every month, members of the Doomer Boards convene to create a ne...
and pwetty
also - that OST
just play it in gzdoom
get all the fancy stuff you want
you liked snatcher and just got a ps4? @fathom juniper
then you gotta check out 13 sentinels. i'd describe it's story as "a love letter to the sci-fi genre"

i'll... write that down

although i don't know when i'll get to play it
my backlog looks more like a CVS receipt
most of my backlogs are free games
so like i dont feel as bad
the rest is the Batman, Bioshock series that im not too itnerested in
You haven’t played bioshock yet ?
only infinite
Oh
I have this weird love hate relationship with infinite
Before it came out I was like “please don’t make the same mistakes bio1 did”
And… it didn’t
It made a whole bunch of new ones instead
lmao
what are those
havent played bio1, 2 so i have no idea
im not interested for now bc the game is so dark, like literally
ik that's the atmosphere they want
but i hate dark games (literally)
On one hand - infinites story goes so far up it’s own butt it’s like watching a snake eating it’s tail but in reverse
But on the other hand - it actually has a really satisfying ending now that neatly ties everything together
On one hand - levels are super simplified now
But on the other - traversing those levels with the yeethook is super fun
On one hand - plasm… I mean - vigors feel super same-y and there’s less tactics there
On the other - the core combat feels way better now
It’s all a really mixed bag
Kinda lost its classic bioshock charm, but at least gave us some major improvements in return
Also - the clothes system is so dumb I can’t help but love it
“Oh hey - I found a new pair of khakis that give me +300% fire damage when punching people”
Like… hwat?
What are the abandoned games?
Fair tbh
i've only played borderlands from there but i fully get it, that game did nothing for me
yeah i gave up on it bc i played BL2, so BL1 just seems like a lesser version of it
i stopped after two hours, the comedy and gameplay were def not my style
I've never played any of those. Never even heard of Offworld Training Company.
im sure its a good game, just that my play sequence made it something lesser
oh wait my b i only played two hours of bl2, i have no experience with the first
yeah what was up with the motion sickness in that game 😭
same with turing test, i played it through egs cause it was free last year and it made me so disoriented
i think it has something to do with the POV and the floatiness of the jump
wait how were you able to post an image in this channel, i don't see it as an option for me
but that's prob it, concerning the motion sickness
ah okay
So, I got $10 to spend on the Switch eShop, and there are 3 games on sale right now that I’ve been eyeing for a while now; Burnout Paradise, Dicey Dungeons and Darkest Dungeon. Which one should I get?
And are the DLCs for Darkest Dungeon a must-buy?
Nope
In fact it's advisable not to play with DLCs at all until you beat the main game.
Then if you want you can enable DLC using the same save file.
Dicey Dungeon is also fun.
It gets a tiny bit repetitive in the end for me, but it's good in short burst.
So I’m guessing it would take me a while to beat the main game, yeah?
maybe :D
despite its reputation, the game gives you as long as you need to complete it on Darkest difficulty, also it is almost nearly impossible to "lose" a campaign
my first campaign i lollygagged my way through like 250+ weeks (each week is like a Hades "run") and a bunch of dead people before finishing the final boss
the two subsequent playthroughs on Stygian/Bloodmoon (advanced difficulty) took me like 70 weeks each
so take your time (or dont)
can you refund stuff on the eshop?
They hated him because he spoke the truth
25 something hours for a 25 buck game is good value hello??
sweats in over 200 something hours logged on Hades even though I already completed the main story and epilogue
25 something hours is how long it took for me to get bored by Metroid Dread, a 60 dollars game at full price
Roguelikes represent a very niche part of gaming. There's a reason I find them so different and appealing to play. Today, after months of procrastination, I'm going to show off some of the ones I found to be very enjoyable. Of course, this is a very opinionated video, so feel free to tell me what everyone thinks too.

0:00 – Intro ...
This dude gives me a headache with his ratings.
And the comment section is hilarious with a bunch of DC elitists trying to claim their game is the hardest while StS fans hopelessly explaining that StS actually requires a lot of skills (which I totally agree with).
oh yea I've watched that some time ago
Also is it me or DC players are such an unlikable bunch?
Most people who are super into DC I've met on Discord, this and other servers, really like to gatekeep their games.
honestly I'm not sure, I never really interact with people super into DC
haven't met people that like DC on other servers I'm in
my friend plays DC
okay maybe not plays
he owns DC
idk whether or not he's still playing it
Yee
watching the video
I take soooo much issue with "slay the spire takes no mechanical skill"
Though technically Hades is the hardest game in that list because winrate on 64 heat is precisely zero.
But yeah that StS rating must be hate bait
yeah must be
"losing to time eater after discovering an infinite combo"
bruh you know what boss you're fighting at the start of the act
"no reason to go beyond 20 heat on Hades"
I think the skill scale is a dead giveaway this is the sort of videos which view these difficult games as flawlessly designed games.
I genuinely hate that this youtuber claims that roguelites like sts have no mechanical gameplay (it comes up again in one step from eden)
You see, in StS you only need to click cards
But in DC you need to learn to parry, dodge roll, attack, etc.
Therefore StS is a skilless game. Smiley face
🙃
I saw that vid as well, I think almost every rating he gave is purely for clickbait
Saying that StS isn’t a skill base game is like saying roguelites shouldn’t have RNG
a lot of what constitutes 'luck' is incredibly subjective too
Yeah, Timekeeper sucks, and you can’t go back down from strats you build from act 1, but I think people keep forgetting that roguelites runs aren’t meant to be winnable all the time
I mean he is succeeding
1.6k comments on a month old video is definitely a lot of engagement
also, you can very much play around timekeeper's mechanics a lot of time with careful planning
(during the fight)
you know exactly how many cards you can play before timekeeper ends your turn
Yeah, needs a lot more future projecting
doesn't make the boss any less of a butt though
When I beat A20 on Ironclad I was so proud
And a thing I have noticed is that in StS space, there are some people who have the game figured out quite a lot to point ascension is very much doable no matter the randomness.
So to say it's luck based more than planning mechanically is to ignore some important information that is given through out the game and values of each card.
lol
the dying light school quest gave me big hotline miami vibes
the soundtrack and also brutal melee kills in closed spaces
kinda reminds me of that absolute mad lad that used this giant circular saw to make the worlds biggest bayblade
and then used a lawnmower to let it rip and just...
ravenholm'd a whole room with it
👀
I'm so watching that
look up "i did a thing" on youtube
he even references ravenholm a few times there
Wait...there are two videos about it
yup
Which one? 😅
Then I've seen part 1 first, yasss
i'd vote for him
here i am thinking about how good it feels to just sprint and dive into cover in MGS5. or just grappling enemies and slamming them to the ground. the weight, the impact. man, that attention to details
I need to get it
Since I literally can't play anything else on PC and PS3 emulation is disgustingly complicated
there's 1 and 2 on gog actually
but Im just binge playing Dying Light rn
anyone got to play Dying Light 2?
Kept you waiting,huh?
i've decided to make some of the animation in slow motion because some of them are too fast for my liking
Omg
I forgot this game had supernatural stuff in it 💀
kojima has this talent for cinematography
Hoping he makes something that doesn't play out like Death Stranding
that was a meme of a game if you ask me
i quite like death stranding, maybe like how people enjoy flight sims and such. maybe its just the trailers hyped up the action too much
but yeah, kojima should do more action
uh wtf
where's the sett likers come get your boy https://youtu.be/9fQkPpp94uY

They already modding the game
i personally love that i have avoided any coverage of this game (not intentionally, its just not in my circle of interests) and thus basically my only knowledge of what this game is is that sett is already modded into it
very funny, love that for me
Is Sett gay or Noxian?
not again
aye not me
apparently there is this new relatively unknown game called Elden Ring coming out
anyone heard of it?
everyone and their dog is hyped for elden ring
but i wanna give a little shoutout to some lesser known games
hence - receiver
the "you shot yourself by accident" game
the gun safety simulator where you can shoot your delicates off by holstering your gun too quickly
i just bought receiver 2 and i'm waiting for it to download
so i was wondering if anyone here played it
is not hyped for elden ring
i have defeated your generalization
same!
I don't look forward to Elden Ring, since while it be fun to hear friend's insight on how this new souls game is different I don't really have big interest for the series.
so sad such a small game is not getting the recognition it deserves :(
hopefully some people notice it 😔🙏
but yeah im not into souls type stuff either, i get why people like them but the gameplay is not for me
im not sure if theres anything im looking forward to currently :/a
cant think of anything lol i know some of my koei friends are playing dw9 empires rn but i cant even be interested in that bc koei treats its own mainline games like garbage
9 just looks so ugly....
FOX!
i know how to sell you on Receiver
it's... actually a roguelite
and i mean seriously now
The dead cells devs put out a tweet asking for ideas to make the game more accessible, and for any comment about how there should be an easier mode there are a bunch of replies like "that's missing the point of the rouglite" "it's not meant to be easy" and that kind of blah
but yeah - i'm not really hyped for elden ring either
dunno why
i like ds1, love BB, sekiro is on my bucket list
i just feel like...
there's a lot of soulslike coming out, you know?
i guess this is how people felt about "doom clones" in mid nineties
I have about 26 games on wishlist, but none of them are coming soon or have concrete release date. 😔
gloomwood when?
SOON™️
so yall remember that guy the internet clowned on over that cuphead tutorial debacle, he tweets about crypto junk
somehow not remotely surprised
Keep talking
Also is it me or DC players are such an unlikable bunch?
Most people who are super into DC I've met on Discord, this and other servers, really like to gatekeep their games.
I literally typed that no too far up.

you get a random starting point, a random weapon, move through randomly generated "dungeon" (that's more like a set of rooftops and apartaments), random bunch of items and have to find 11 tapes in one go to finish the game
i might get ultrakill when i have more free time
i actually got ultrakill from a fren
haven't played it yet
was too busy tinkering with my shooty shooty bang bang mod
do you know when its coming out of EA?

flippin'
everything is
gloomwood, ultrakill, fallen aces, graven, wrath, selaco
ig there are a few things im looking forward to
RoR2 Survivors of the Void
Darkest Dungeon 2
and now Ultrakill
in that order
i'm tired of waiting
I highly recommend it
As someone who had played it, I had a blast with it
Though it is tough as nails
yes
Yes
perfect
eternal though?
that depends of your platrofm of choice
faster than eternal on consoles
pc though? i dunno - i've seen people going super fast on pc so
i dont own eternal
you should
yes, indeed
there are games
shut

and they keep coming out
can we like regulate vidya gaems so that only a certain number of games are allowed?
command economy the gaming industry
soon
maybe
idk
or as I like to call them, "slide shows".

can i flex a bit?
yeah?
so - during my absence from this server i finally released episode 1 of my dinky little doom mod and won a runner up in 2021 cacowards for it
and recently one of my fave YT channels made a little review/whatever of it

which is just
nice nice
thank
how many eps are you planning?
4
1 is done, most of the assets for remaining episodes are done too
and 1/3rd of episode 2 is done already too
yeah i was replying to that
Im not hyped for elden ring becauze I was hyped for Dying Light 2 when they showcased stuff and turned out so meh
Like the ending is god damn white text on a black screen
Also the UI looks like some souls games and they made it fully into an rpg
I like the first game for it's light rpg mechanics
They literally pulled off a far cry new dawn on dying light 2
it's really hard to stop yourself from letting your imagination wonder and get all excited about some ideas a game may or may not have
but then again - it's really easy for publishers to exploit that
and that just makes me
angy
Also for some reason the world doesnt look as comfy as sector 0 in 1
I love this location
Drop kicking zombies from 4 stories down
how about
and hear me out here
how about we take the mirror's edge loicence from dice
(they've got their hands full with that garbage fire of a battlefield game now anyway)
and give it to techland?
let them make the first AND ONLY proper sequel to mirror's edge
I mean I'm sure they might get onto something new
the easiest way for me to not be hyped about elden ring has been to play the souls games for the first time and get to dark souls 2 last week lmao
catalyst don't count
oof
Respawn Entertainment is onto 3 star wars games

Dice is still busy with 2042 but maybe they will make a BF3 or a new Mirror's Edge
then there's Bioware
These guys are on that grind for the new ME and DA games
oh dear god no
please no
none of the OG crew is there anyway
and we've all seen what happened with catalyst
BF2042 apparently was such a bust EA said they don't expect to get much from it financially for the next year or so
which probably means they're not going to do any major fixes to the game as it is and it'll be another Anthem
it's not even hype but the only release i care about is mhr: sunbreak. and i'm fully expecting them to just bring back all of my least favourite monsters
like they could turn around and say 'no zamtrios or magala, but here's uragaan, nergigante and brachydios' and i'd just. still get it
I tend not to get hyped for any upcoming game nowadays, even ones from a trusted development team
Overhype can lead to disappointment, because one had high expectations
And the game, even if it was good, was unable to meet them
That's why I try to remain skeptical until the game is actually out, or at the very least playable
I do my best to limit my excitement for upcoming games. But the Steam release of FAITH looks so cool!
I stand by what I've said before I go into everything expecting a 5/10 average experience
And I'm never disappointed
Me and my buddy have released our new trailer (and pretty big update) for the game we've been workin' on, please check it out if you think it's pretty neat:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgDudvBu3Ww
(it's also completely free in demo form currently)
Man, TWW3 is addicting
Anyhow. Only 4 days left for ER so I'm gonna try finishing a random game from my backlog before that
I think this guy is a bit too strong

pretty big announcement night
does anyone else, when starting up a new game for the first time, just like going to the options and seeing how much you can customise and change? like it's great how many lil qols can be nestled away there sometimes
Depends on the game
If its an fps or something where settings changes are critical, then absolutely
otherwise i just play until something looks or feels wrong
I started as console players, I almost never touch options except to get rid of motion blur
Street Fighter 6, wow
as someone who was there on launch day for SF 5, I hope Capcom has learned from their mistakes. They had a ton of stumbles with SF5.
People liked Luke, so hopefully that design ethos is one going forward

this video is still amazing
Me. Sometimes I have more fun customizing than playing.
Tbh that's how I "play" emulators.
Making them work to custom specs is somehow more time and often more enjoyable than playing old games lol
I can be sold on a game if it has a ton of options
@icy bluff I played kid icarus uprising for 200 hours which is the same amount of time I have in hades. I liked the characters/dialogue in kid icarus uprising more, while I prefer the gameplay in hades. How about you? I'm definitely going to continue with hades at least until I complete my goal of beating all weapon aspects on 32 heat, but I've long since given up on completing every chapter on intensity 9.0 in Kid Icarus uprising. The difficulty seems way more unfair in that way due to the fact that dying a single time lowers the difficulty
also my 3ds' circle pad is broken so I don't even want to try that anymore
uprising was a fun game
I can honestly write a thesis on how much I like uprising and how this game still has a place in my heart to this day xD
I am not sure how many hourse I soent into it, but yeah not only it offers a freat level ofndifficulty (with some flaws as you mentioned, of course), but also some of my favourite story, dialogues and characters ever.
In a way, Hades is sort of the closest thing I got to a sequel of that game xD
YES PLEASE
I will give away my kidney for a switch port
Also Zagreus and Pit will be friends for sure :)
hades kid icarus crossover
I just can't imagine Pit in a melee!!
Found in Chapter 8, where you can break the doors to stop the space-pirates from coming in and fighting you and all that jazz.
Special thanks to pagooo. Without the help of that citizen I wouldn't have even known of this bit of dialogue's existence. This is why we request, people!!
hades but with the kid icarus characters
the character interactions in that game were extremely charming from what i remember seeing
the highest difficulties I cleared all levels on intensity 5.0 except chapter 24 and 25. the weapon fusion system is really confusing and I hate how its basically required to stand a chance in the highest difficulty 9.0. I only cleared chapter 1 on the highest intensity, and even then I was on very low heath when clearing it. almost did chapter 2 but I died to the boss of the level, so it dropped to 8.0
also I think I might've did several levels on 6.0
or 7.0
its such wasted potential that they're not doing a sequel. there's so many god characters in mythology they could use for different games
and they aren't yet they still hint at it in smash for no reason. ok so dark pits working with viridi for some reason. too bad we'll never get to see it
Speaking on Kid Icarus X Hades, it is the time to share this post I made a while ago, comparing the two series
(Sorry for the possible low quality xD )

nice
Thanks 😅
Yoyoyo, I'm here with many questions
Those of you who like the top down rpgs of the early video game era, how do you recreate that feeling, while keeping quality of life tools the modern gaming era has created
Looking for ideas for me and my team
also heres some art
lol i just got pranked
dm me for art
for me, keep the gameplay the same with deep customization but make menuing easier
more specifically, shorter menu transition time
better organization
if it's turn based, increase the speed of play (for example the new pokemon increased the speed of play by less menuing and no "battle transition" which makes it so much better)

Is Changing Tides actually a big deal in the indie space?
I remember its announcement being treated like a big thing when I have never ever heard of the original
Neon White demo is out
I honestly don’t think it’ll come out this winter
Got about 6 demos today from the Gamefest. Will list them today and give my overall thoughts on them.
Sorry for late message, but to add to what FoxHope said, try to prioritize accessibility above all. Tooltips for everything (with backtracking enabled if it’s turn-based). Crisp, read-able text on modern resolution screen (I think 1440p is standard for today, or maybe it was 1080p?), less transparency on menu texts and contrasting colors of texts and menu background. Options for color blindness and ability to lessen or disable screen shake
To add one more to that lessen or disable screen flashes as well
I'm starting slowly but surely to see all games featured and downloading all interesting demos
I'll post results in several days
Yesn't.
Was popular but not "Limbo" or "Inside" Level
Also, ANNO Mutationem is up again
Quite good and 100% reccomended
