y'kno
yup.
also gta online story update featuring franklin and dr dre
right now im doing a heist to get the property so i can start the missions
a friends told me it's a great update
honestly triple A games had no reason to go up to 70 dollars on consoles
considering how much more money they make now with dlcs, season passes, battle passes, microtransactions like cosmetics and xp boosters, loot boxes etc
they're starting to go to $70 on pc now too which makes even less sense
guess i'm not buying square enix games now lol
To be fair though, game development costs are steadily increasing over the years but game prices stayed the same for so long now
which is why they have implemented all the things i mentioned in my previous message
big triple A companies have never had profits this high
plus, why have development costs increased? why have companies CHOSEN to do that?
and do the extreme profits actually go back into development? judging from a lot of exposés, it doesn't seem like it, since less devs have to make more content in a shorter time period
so where does it go? in the case of ActiBlizz, most probably Bobby Kotick's multi billionaire pockets
Pretty much is the case for publishers amd teiple a devs like Ubisoft, Rockstar etc. too
Not just Kotik, but the board of execs in general
them too, with some uh...very classy members
There's also a lot wrong with the notion that game pricing has "stayed the same" over the years.
Sure the base cost has not changed, but this does not take into account the prevalance of payed dlc, microtransactions and expansions that have become the norm in triple A titles which obfuscates the true cost of the game to the end user
It’s not like all those DLCs are developed for free as well though
Its not, however in the vast majority of cases the money made by the 60 dollar initial asking price would cover that cost of making that dlc several times over
The problem mostly is the fact AAA developers can reasonably make a pricing fair by simple trick of investing and managing the development time to reasonable amount and not let their own creation to go out of the hand and become feature creep or bloated with uneeded features for sake of length.
We see year on year companies like actiblizz make record profits year on year yet lay off a whole bunch of staff.
And even then there are problems of paywalling some things that don't require much of paywall at all.
Like why Watch Dog Legion has a lot of characters behind currency paid stuff, but development of them probably took like not much besides giving a few unique animations and few dialogues in some places.
Really? Without looking at actual development costs, wages, marketing, etc, I don’t think that can be confirmed tbh
Looks like budget planning to me. I mean, it’s clear where they’re trying to cut costs there
Its not that though
Not saying it’s fine, but, it’s kinda logical
Its 100% execs pandering to investors to make them look better
And in turn raise their stock pricing
plus in ActiBlizz for example wages weren't the greatest
certain devs were paid so poorly they couldn't afford food in the company's own cafeteria
plus the CEO makes like 200 million dollars a year, I'd say there's a good spot to cut some costs
Straight up, there's been a multitude of stories from devs working at whether it be actiblizz, cdpr, rockstar you name it where the pay disproportionally lower than others in the industry
If you ask me, I’d rather not believe it’s all “bad execs” and rather crazy marketing budgets
Jim Sterling has made a ton of interesting and insightful videos on how these execs only pander to investors
Not to mention the numerous allegations of abuse, cover ups , threats to fall in line
there are games that have higher marketing budgets than development budgets like
?????
Yet you have games like Hades, your Undertales that do insanely well with a fraction of that as a budget for the entire game
Also I think a good way of telling we don't need such crazy amount of pricing and such is just by thinking "wait was there any proper successful and good game with 9 figure budget".
I can only think of a couple off the top of my head
And almost all of those have had stories of insane levels of crunch, abuse etc. around there development cycles
From what I understand from game development, is there will always be late development crunch, no matter how high the budget is. Most of the early years of game development is just spent on theorycrafting, concepting, mechanic/engine testing, etc, once all that is set in stone, then the real hard work start to creep in
If you wish to believe that triple a game dev isn't incredibly corrupt there's numerous articles by the likes of jason schrirer, videos by james stephenie stirling and others that shine a light into the industry.
friendly reminder that by the time these games ship to consumers the actual devs that worked on the game have already been paid
And in “some” cases, almost nothing is set in stone in the first place, which just leads to more crunching in the end due to plan changes
Which either leads to delays, or unfinished games released on promises release dates
Nero i see you are trying to give the benefit of the doubt but there are plenty of pieces of information through the years about all the things aggy has pointed out. also sterling just put out a video about digipen that's related to this too about the crunch topic. crunch is a failure of management, it is not something that should ever be a norm. if you are crunching to finish a project you have failed in managing it
This doesn't excuse forced crunch existing in the first place
The development never has to really end with a crunch. All can be solved with actually reasoning and managing the development time or not being afraid of delaying a thing, since truthfully no development can say for sure a release day up until the game is like in the final stages. Just wild guesses. Although developers can deliver on the promised date truthfully it's all depends on knowing your work flow and it can get harder with the increase amount of the scale of the game plus the scale of the team since everyone got their own way of workflow.
it is a bit rude to drop that in the middle of a multi person discussion imo
My b.
you're good lmao also on mobile that thumbnail ate up most of my screen, you didn't have to delete it removing the embed would have been fine
was just a bit jarring
Although it is somewhat on topic, shesh the pricing on that final fantasy game.
Yeah I was surprised when I read Intergrade
But It's apparently both FF7R and the Yuffie XPAC
Although It's at the end of the day a year old game
Well Year and a half
Yeah, I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt here, I respect the opinions of bad gaming industries of today but sometimes I find it hard to believe it’s all bad and unjustified. Of course, the gaming industry is just riddled with horror stories and bad environments nowadays that they’re just begging to be hated, but I believe that it’s just how the industry has always been, right from the old days of id software and Doom. It’s like the service industry, it has always been bad right from whatever ancient time it came from, but from my experience working in the industry, it’s not as simple as “change your ways and everything be good”; it’s really hard to change what it is now, and part of it is because how consumers looks at the service industry from the outside. We can change how the service industry works, but consumer expectations has to change as well. I think the same can be applied here to the gaming industry
And failure of management is really just part of the business tbh, we can’t really just plan from A to Z and expect everything to just exactly like A to Z without hiccups here and there
it's still very odd to defend the industry so hard when these conditions have been reported on by journalists for years. if you want to know the information it's out there. consumers don't want to change because the gaming industry doesn't want them to change.
no one denies the cost of development has gone up, the cost of everything has gone up. but at the same time it's really hard to justify the price of games going up when games increasingly nickle and dime its players for their time
I mean that in not a bad way, what I mean was, it is real, companies don’t want consumers to change and in turn, consumers doesn’t want to change
like... in my perspective it basically comes down to, I have already purchased this game upfront, why are there continued avenues of monetization in games that don't need them? none of that even gets back to the devs who actually made the game
It’s like, it’s one way or another, eggs don’t come before the chicken and chickens don’t come first before the eggs
it is a really hard cycle to break out of and ultimately a lot of people genuinely dont care and just want to play their games. things will never change if we stay complacent about it just because it's a thing that happens
i saw a pretty fitting image when it comes to studios that have horrible staff practices but people only care about the games, until they announce NFTs
oh man the nft thing is an entire mess in itself the industry is getting into 😭
not very relevant to the discussion at hand but a whole mess by itself like you said jklsdf
i think these things all kinda tie together in a way bc at the end of the day the only ones profiting off the nft nonsense are the people are the top
also something i've noticed BECAUSE of Sterling is how often people are now referred to and refer to themselves as "consumers" instead of "customers"
Yeah, you can’t deny the harassment and assault. That’s… is on another level on incompetence
i'm not an english native or a language major, but to me consumer feels a lot more degrading, because you're expect to just "consume", swallow it all, don't ask questions
you're right
sadly those people do exist, Jim Sterling legit gets weekly emails from people complaining they just need to shut it and let games be games
Crunch and monetization is another thing, but human rights is a thing we all should be trying to improve no matter what the consequences is to profits
yeah, unfortunately that is a problem that spans beyond the gaming industry
it's not limited to the game industry yeah, i mean, look at Amazon
Just to be clear forced crunch is a human rights issue
it's an extreme example, but I almost cannot think of a billionaire more despicable to his company's staff than Jeff Bezos
the act of being a billionaire is inherently immoral bc no one accumulates that kind of wealth through being kind and respectful to their workers 🥴 we have kotick as a great example
I feel like people put less emphasis on crunch because "that's how the industry has always been", i mean hell, it even gets taught at colleges like Digipen, like Sterling discussed in their latest video. but assault, harassment and other more direct human rights violations make more of an impact. i think that's why many people forgot the human cost of Anthem and ME Andromeda when it came to Bioware, but did protest loudly when the horrific circumstances surrounding Activision Blizzard were exposed
though what I always found odd personally is how this outrage never really happened with Ubisoft. Ubisoft had the same problem, got exposed a year earlier but everyone just....seemed to forget about it. And I also blame games media press for that. They hardly covered it and if they did, the next article they wrote promoted the games from that same publisher.
ubisoft isn't currently engaged in court cases, which is the difference i guess. the state of california is investigating actiblizz directly, so that kind of news hangs around longer. ubi got nothing comparatively
Well, I’m not defending forced crunch; when you literally asks your devs to just duke it out at deadlines, that’s bad, what I’m saying is, crunch isn’t something that can simply be solved with just planning alone, things happens along the way and plans change, they just have to adapt no matter if they liked it or not
that's not the kind of crunch that usually ends up happening though
There's a reason why I specify forced crunch
As its almost always what happens in the industry
that might explain it yeah. i mean the government going after ActiBlizz specifically probably made everyone go "oh god what did they DO"
anyway im jetting out of this convo bc i got errands, have fun
It should be noted that crunch isnt everywhere
plans changing along the way is something that happens with a lot of creative projects, i think. i don't know much crunch is a thing that happens in other creative industries, but if devs require more time to finish their vision, why not give them that time to do so within healthy amount of working hours?
Ubisoft is also just good at sweeping there controvasies under the rug.
As well as games journalists scared of losing there precious access
rip stalker 2 once again
It mostly happens in the US simply because US labour laws are ridiculously weak
Like in germany, crunch is just straight up illegal
not only it has that multiple game tier bs and pre order campfire song bonuses but now dabbled into nft stuff
because their publishers, their bosses, want those games out by a certain deadline to make sure they rake in the most cash, that's the reason why these deadlines are often not sufficient. i mean, look at the most big triple A games released this october and november...battlefield, cod, gta remastered...so many of them were just buggy as hell or didn't even run properly at all
I will say, some of the consumers should also change how they view delays because that certainly is a factor with why some game devs try to rush things but like
Ultimately the blame is solely theirs
i agree on that too
remember when the journalist who announced the delay of a game (i can't remember which game it was) got death threats in his inbox
but i do think making quarterly goals is also a big factor, considering how little these companies tend to care about their customers
That’s a matter of competition, if they wanted their game to not drown and/or gets compared too much to the competition, they really have to nail down those release deadlines
and more about the numbers they present to their investors
Which is, consumer expectations, which brings us back to square one
They have to just risk the backlash and take what they can get now rather than fail later and lose more revenues down the line
The blame can be put on both the company and consumers, consumers expects more and companies have to do more, and they just cave in to our whims
Lol, after saying that, I do think companies have the blame here and they should be trying to shape us better
And force them to extend deadlines
Like, we can’t change our expectations, they have to show us what we should be expecting in the first place
Easier said than done though
I really have to look into the labor laws of the US and EU too though
and instead of looking scared and shaking their heads
They nod violently and scream several slurs
that seems like a regular occurrence
True
there's actually US based companies like Walmart who tried to pay their workers in Germany below Germany's minimum wage laws bc that was the amount US workers got
but the German government intervened and thus Walmart, instead of paying the wages they should, left Germany
No you're right
Is Shenmue III plot understandable if you haven't played the other 2?
think so
you like get callbacks and what not
but the stories are contained to their games.
I've finally finished this god darn game
I'm now going to kill whoever designed the game's difficulty setting
there must be a reckoning for this level of tediousness
@tranquil plinth it's a third person bullet hell shooter roguelike, basically the best use of the dualsense on the market today, has a deathloop mechanic but it's not quite as profound as hades like you need to git gud and not just have a full mirror (theres very few permanent upgrades). very tough, if you like dark souls and hades it is at least worth watching a review you can prob get it for like 40 bucks on facebook marketplace now
moving here so nyaanyaa doesnt feed me to the crocodiles
i literally just called the first boss meg lol
it was the same feeling
I’m not really a fan of roguelikes. Hades is the only one that I’ve ever found interesting. But I’ll look into it
Man, hopefully Returnal one day comes to pc
That's I heard the best boss/setpiece of the game
Turns out Resident Evil Village Was the Most Completed Game of 2021
How do you take people like them (who believe in such thing) seriously though if the thumbnail they use, is from a villain who barely exists for 2 hours?
Which works as an understatement that the rest of the game kind of goes unnoticed, right?
yes whats your point with this gif
nah I just mimicking nft fans
oic
i just left it at a simple lmao bc i was remembering how they put out that entire letter about how good this was actually, only to backtrack within like a day? or whatever
that's funny indeed
"we're making this game for you to enjoy" "if you care, we care too 🥺" yeah okay thats why you tried to justify it initially right
Money is target
NFT was to earn money
but it ended up with making big backslash
so they cancelled it, so they dont lose sales
simple
Why use nft though if all you wanted to accomplish was to establish your ownership of that image? All you have to do is put your name in the picture in a place where it can't be removed without tampering with the picture itself. This kind of reminds me the same "issue" we had back in 2017 when instagram was stealing memes from reddit users and they were looking for ways to make sure their memes were theirs.
you can edit images
NFT is nothing more than adding some data to Blockchain which can not be edited
also hold more informations
result of image format which just lack serious security
There simply should be format that doesn't allow for editing, but even then you can just screenshot it and then edit
whatever, you can do the same to NFT
so yeach, its useless
You can screenshot an NFT but you still won’t have the original image
NFT is just for claiming ownership on a piece of art on the internet, for now, images
What stupid about it is when people think they are still the only one with the item, when that’s clearly not the case at all right from the start
You can still spread copies of the images online, it’s just that only you had the original one
Ok. Seriously. Isn't this the third or fourth time it has happened already?
- Some game company announce NFTs on their games.
- Massive mockery and community backslash
3 Devs quickly reverse course with nothing to show for the mockery earned - Cycle starts with a different company
Have they ALL withdrawn? I think some companies have just closed their eyes and continued
splinter cell remake wont be open world! yeaaaaaaah baby that's what we were waiting for!
The bare minimum has been reached. Now everything goes downhill knowing Ubisoft.
@distant creek are the crossbows good
I like the ice one but repeater nice too
so I've been playing Spider Solitaire since last week. It has ads. I was like "you know what? I'll just buy it to get rid of the ads."
It's subscription base

wat
now I'm downloading windows 7 game packs
Pinball time
Lmao the new Battlefield already on a -33% discount
The free game
For those interested
oh good i can try it now bc i've had it wishlisted on steam for a while
yeah same lool
so weird to see all you guys getting free games you've been eyeing up while i'm still working through my backlog lmao
you guys actually play the games you buy??
i've been having my eye on pathologic 2 for a while but idk if i hate myself enough to play it
i've made negative progress to getting stuff finished throughout this year. very proud of myself lmao
eventually, I will play all games I am eyeing, it can take years, but I am up for it.
I have a 'six game system'
Where I clean my backlog by selecting 6 games and play them back to back
I have a system of "whatever is on sale, I shall buy and play in upcoming few days to later ponder for some time"
Lul I also play the games I want when they release/come out of EA
When elder Ring/TW3/SoP:FFO come out I leave anything to play them
Right now I'm trying to finish my games before the February Barrage hits
see this is why i'm somewhat glad the only console still getting games that i have is a switch, at least i can't just grab the rest of the soulsborne games and give myself even more to do lmao
ive really been trying to finish any games i get soon after i get them, and play games to the end when i pick them up. it worked pretty well this year, i finished 67 games
i hope i continue that in the next year and keep clearing my still immense backlog
"finishing" anything is frankly a magical concept for me bc adhd brain either gets sidetracked through something (like playing a game) and i wind up forgetting about it, or it feels bored despite me actively enjoying the thing i'm doing and i put it aside and rarely come back to it because... i forget :) don't feel bad about your backlog
Yeah sometimes games are just like there and it's alright, what's important is enjoying and getting an experience from the games rather than finishing them.
I have a few games I will never finish, but that's alright, I already got an experience from them.
i used to be able to sit down and finish games more consistently when i was younger but that was before my brain got screwed to hell and back lmao now it's genuinely something that takes a lot of effort, even if i'm really enjoying the experience a lot. as you said, sometimes what's more important is enjoying the experience you had
it's kind of a momentum thing also, when i have really good momentum going i can sink dozens of hours into a game but the moment something disrupts that momentum it starts getting difficult to come back to. but that's for anything really, not just games
i have just given up on not having a backlog. it will always exist, but as long as i'm having fun then whatever
My problem is mostly how I schedule my games I think. It can get pretty difficult to keep up with the game during busy months, but when it's a week off or something I suddenly stumble into problem of me accidentally playing it too fast that I end up having no game to play afterwards for the rest of the week off lol.
Thankfully this shouldn't be much of a problem now that I have the funny monkey and balloons game.
hey what was the first free game before neon abyss
just so i know if i missed out
oh it was shenmue 3
meh i wouldnt have played it anyway
I almost never missed free games on epic but what I played is only among us lol
a-amogus!!!
I don't know if you could pay me to play Shenmue 3 lol
So apparently the longest game of the year was the new Pathfinder, uh
how long is that?
123h on average
wow that's pretty long
hmmmm idk how i feel abt neon abyss after going thru a run
how is it?
idk if its my cup of tea
is really all i can say
i just played thru the first manager and was like "huh..." so its not smth that immediately clicks with me
fair enough
i still need to play it
but so far action 2D scrollers aren't my type either
#topdowngamer
...
also i still dont know why its vaguely greek myth themed lmao
seems to be largely for aesthetic
i know zeus, athena and ares are bosses you can do later but its like. hm. but why tho.
my brother unironically calls me this. doesn't help when you only play sgg games and bloons

Translation: we are commited to making a metric buttonne of money at the expense of the environment and our playerbase
im impressed by how little of an explanation that was, like in the negatives. this man was looking wistfully out the window thinking abt players spending money in his metaverse doing things they can literally already do in games
The thing that I find most annoying about NFTs is how they made us think it’s all about making absurd amounts of money online. Even video games are now trying to integrate it into their games. The worst ones is when these companies/people are literally just selling their brand name to people, instead of an actual quality content
Like, the NFT tech itself has useful use cases, but then all we’re seeing right now are people abusing it, while also not acknowledging all the environmental problems it inherently has
People keep saying "NFT tech has useful use cases" but I don't know if I even believe that
You'd think if there was a use case they'd start with that and do scams that way
I think what you see is what you get
how weird that i keep seeing people say that (this is not @ u nero but i mean i see this like on twitter and whatever a lot as well) nft can be useful but literally no one has been able to actually provide a valid argument for their case
i mean the entire "but its good for artists" mask fell off QUICK and even cosplayers are getting their photos stolen and minted as nft without their permission, what good is any of this in the gaming sphere when the community cryptobros kept insisting this would benefit the most are the ones are getting hit the hardest, what tangible benefit is there to any of this tech that cant already be done without the nft grift
if it were truely good for the artist the furry community would of been onto this years ago lol
As the Internet puts it, it's a solution in search of a problem.
The most useful use cases I’ve seen people came up with was how you can now own a digital deed of a piece of land or a house that you own, that will never be lost in time or tampered in any way
The act of actually having ownership of anything you have online is not entirely without merit, tbh
It is actually something we never have before, because of how anything digital is just bits and bytes that can be easily copied to the exact details
One I can come up with myself is how digital CCGs can now actually be like their paper TCG counterparts, where cards you own online are actually stuffs that isn’t just copies of the same cards, but unique cards that each has their own token, and how you can now actually trade those cards just like you can IRL
Counter argument to myself is that games actually can die and all those cards will eventually still be gone lmao
Also, this also kinda already exists in the form of CSGO skins and their secondary skin market
thats kinda mostly the point, i think. crypto doesnt offer anything "unique" or "innovative" that, when explained, isnt essentially something that already exists. the vast majority of it is literally just a grift. gaming doesnt need this and isnt going to benefit from it as much as some of these people like to tout
True. I’ve seen people likened NFTs to be the next big tech after the iPhone and I was like, no, not at all, most use cases are niche at best
It’s overhyped for all the wrong reasons
well, Apple has been using conception of "additional value of otherwise common and interchangeable thing that exist only by everybody's belief" for years, so there is something similar alright
I was showing my Switch games to a friend who's only Three years younger than me, and she was mind blown that you change games by actually taking the cartridge out and swapping another one in
me: how else do you think I change games?
her: idk I guess I assumed they're all downloaded...
1,370 votes and 360 comments so far on Reddit
LOL if the report is true
ahhh hate to say it but the rumoured epic games list doesn't appeal to me
i'll have to go through past years' lists to see what i've missed out on
NFTs are just a way to cement ownership of art explicitly to ensure payment and theoretically make the art resellable
Not oddly at all, the first big example of its usage were limited production profile pictures of apes smoking weed
Not to ensure payment of one big high effort piece, but to sell a bunch of layer edits of a templated image.
Not even custom profile pictures. Basically mass produced.
If you want to buy one and like sell it for triple what you bought it for in a few months, go ahead
But it's a very silly scheme that wont go far I dont think
It might get adopted by some galleries and stuff but that's about it
And that would likely be either for digital art wholesale, like a VR piece
Or like, to produce certificates for physical art pieces they have in stock
I never thought of NFTs as something to combat piracy, tbh. Piracy has always existed, and will continue to be so. NFTs on the hand, are a good way for artists to actually entice buyers to actually own the art pieces directly from them (or publisher), at least in situations where it doesn’t go too crazy
Hence, why the screenshot meme feels so funny to me
literally every big name artist i see is saying if you want to support artists, just buy their art, nfts are dumb. there's also a lot of artists, primarily foreign ones, that are getting their accounts hacked by crypto dudes and then rebranded as crypto accounts, if this is so good for artists why do they have to keep hacking artist accounts? also notably the main artists you see getting into nfts are ones that already are well off, nft art isnt something you can get into without a sizable investment. or nft as a whole honestly, even nft games. so like. again. what does any of this offer that has any tangible benefit that cant already be done without the grift. no one is able to answer that because there is none. maybe that could change in the future but for the time being there is no point to any of this other than investing for money and not for art (art as in actual artowrk or general media)
worth noting with that ubi nft stuff even ubi's own devs are lashing out against the nft move and saying its all pointless
i dont want nft in games especially because i see it going down exactly the same road microtransactions did. everyone is going to insist its optional, if you dont want to interact with it then dont, but its there for players that do (which in itself is a poor argument because monetary options are not added into a game "just in case" their entire purpose in being there is to entice people to spend money). and then gradually this stuff gets so invasive it affects everything and cant simply be avoided. look how many games are built around monetary functions and are deliberately crafted in a way that a paying player will always have some sort of advantage over a nonplaying one, whether its stats, real life time investment or what have you
That leads into the fact that even some paid games today have microtransactions in them these days, it’s so bad
Back in the day, it’s only F2P games so it’s kinda fine, but now, it’s so crazy because lines have been crossed and nothing is sacred anymore
i stand by the idea that a full price triple a game should not have microtransactions, such as boosters and such in it. dlc is one thing, if its extra content. options to skip parts of the game only tell me that your game isnt worth playing
and yet... most full price triple a games these days have microtransactions now, funny that
i do like to point back to shadow of war needing to be entirely rebalanced when they removed microtransactions because the game quite literally was built around the monetary features whenever people try to go off about how "optional" these things are
To weigh in on nft it is funny to me that all the crypto people keep saying "Artists love nft cause it will give artists rights to their pieces" and ever artist I follow keeps saying nft bad cause art is still being stolen by third parties
also as others have said if nft's were actually good furries would have already been using it lmao
next free game on EGS
Man, that one is an old one
yeah fake list as turns out
makes me now curious though what's the real list will be like
a lot....more disappointing
so far, it's ... okay?
neon abyss
reamnant
ethan carter
decent
hopefully they keep it up
I don't mind anything as long as it's free
Ethan Carter's was great too
The name kinda reminds me to a game that came much later by other devs, which was also a Walking Simulator
The Suicide of Rachel Forster
TBH, that game is also the kinda game Epic gives for free
Sooo, I just found out a funny oversight in Caligula Effect 2
One of the items you can get "upgrades" a skill by giving it a followup ... which does literally nothing at all but increased cast and recovery time
Meaning it makes it worse
got slime rancher on the switch, love my little chaotic things
Damn daniel

Next free game for EGS this month - Loop Hero! https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/p/loop-hero
yep same!
Only problem I have with the game that after first initial play I wish there was more content to it
Feels like there is lack of synergy/cards to explore and see.
I hope if they offered to do this. Either was because they got paid a good load of cash or they have DLC lined up
So maybe there is hope for more content
Yep, that's what I hope this deal means.
tfw TES6 will most likely end up being a generic fantasy world without the alien life that Morrowind had
Ok, I want to show you one of the most dumbest quotes I've seen a dev make
And I'm absolutely not exaggerating
One of the strangest things about Cyberpunk 2077 is how it handles its enemy AI system. Not just in terms of how enemies react to you, but the way they react to you. As in, police will appear out of thin air rather than show up in cars, and no one, neither gangs or police, will ever actually chase you in a vehicle outside of some very select scripted sequences during missions.
So, why was this?
Quest Director Pawel Sasko got asked this on one of his recent streams, and the first portion of his answer pushes back against the idea that “all” open world games have a system like this. He brings up the upcoming Sonic open world game and Elden Ring as open world games that won’t have police chases. He cites GTA and Watch Dogs as two of the only games he can think of that have that system.
Emphasis mine
Oh yeah I have seen it.
Honestly it's so funny to me. "Oh uh how do I explain the fact we rushed this whole game oooh oh right talk about games that are trendy rn!"
Can't wait for this to be wrong and there are like magical cart chases after you in Elden Ring and Sonic open game.
Also right forgot.
Happy Birthday Cyberpunk 2077 you are a game.
Do invasions count as police chases?
Well someone IS chasing you in invasions. So sure why not.
i hope that after the final boss in Elden Ring, a police car pulls up to arrest your character, like in the final scene of monty python & the holy grail
AHHHHHHHHH https://youtu.be/vrykcPGtOMw
um
this is clearly a fake trailer using witcher 3 gameplay and the gwent trailer lmao
Shhhh dont say that!!
but there were police chases in Sonic.. back in the day
when they weren't afraid to be serious
well they also gave shadow a gun
An update on the Final Fantasy VI pixel remaster.
For more information, including details on the additional pre-purchase items, please read: https://t.co/V5ebtbbRcg
its just a pixel remaster lmao??
what more polish do they need over the version they delisted
MORE TIMES THE PIXELS
We need time to make an hd pixel pack
Does make me wonder if it means they will not use the usual sprites and just make them have like insane amount of frame data and be completely different from the base sprites and go in different art direction
Like very detailed pixel art or something
What's with Final Fantasy ports/remaster/remakes/ and screwing up
they have bigger problems to worry about, like ff7 being called one of the worst pc triple a ports in a long time lol
Yep. That was also what I was referring to
I think my favourite SE screw up was when they tried to make kingdom Hearts HD but they lost the source code so they had to create the whole game from scratch
Transforming a remaster into a remake
They alao have lost the source codes for final fantasy 7, final fantasy 8, final fantasy 11.
Cause back in the day they saw no point in keeping them
That makes me really wonder why they didn't think archiving source codes of every game they make wouldn't be a good idea.
what happened there
look thru the links in yongs description i dont feel like pulling up individual stuff lol but its easy to google https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5owVK1rpVhM

biggest sore points being very limited graphics options and the framerate tanks hard
Still thinking about how one of the uploads for said port was a debug version.
damn good thing I didn't get that
I wouldn't have gotten it anyway but whatever
for a bit I thought you were talking about the old ff7 steam port
that was also pretty bad
Malaysia Flood Relief 2021 Bundle: up to 25 items starting at $15.00

Metal Gear Rising has a brilliant soundtrack. It's one of the best celebrated elements of the game, and with good reason-it's lightning fast and matches the exhilarating gameplay perfectly.
But something that I feel gets a bit left behind is that the music does some incredibly interesting things relating to characterisation and storytelling. It...
Thinking about how 5 things about loops came out this year
These 3, Returnal and the outer wilds dlc?
Oh, right Forgotten city
Apparently I read Returnal was the least completed game of 2021
Wonder if it's that hard
According to hltb
That's interesting. If I had uncle's ps5 I would totally like try out the game and see what is the reason for that since it sounds wacky to hear such relatively big budget game to be the least completed game of the year. Or am I thinking about other game.
the lamar and franklin coop mini campaign was so good
latest update has been some big fan service
The free game
borderlands with dinos
me and a friend were going to get it
almost were going to get it
From some leaks I saw there's some major graphical overhauls coming to FFVI Pixel Remaster
I thought that's what they were talking about
why's that one bad?
the steam ports have been bumpy for years, i dont remember the original 7's offhand but given 8 and 9 poor audio quality was probably one
the ports for some people are very bare basic quality but modders have since fixed many issues so i dont really recall much of the drama
ah
sry for the late response but I played it like 2 years ago and you didnt only have to make a square enix account to only play the game, it lacked basic features like changing window size ect
what bothered me the most was that the game was locked in german for me and the original german translation isnt only hideous- its also broken
I think it had issues with displaying sentences in textboxes so many of them were cut off ect
since german writing is considerably longer I'd guess
I tried everything to change the language but the game just wouldnt let me it was very strange
@scenic wigeon
I will say that the game itself played fine at least
damn
nah I was playing LEGO Star Wars it's okay that the response is late
i know there were some fairly big issues with 8
9 im not so sure, mostly audio format i think and the backgrounds, which couldnt be helped, but everyone plays 9 with moguri mod now anyway
i dont even remember what 8 remastered's problems were lmao i was just so agitated that owners of 8 didnt even get like a 10% off or anything, just square going hm no full price. it is still sitting at a mixed rating though
it just felt bad that it was A: bad to set up and B: region locked for me or something

Fire Emblem fan let's goooooooo
Although I will admit I am more obsessed with Fire Emblem Heroes Adrift version of Fates than Fates itself, hehehe
what r u guys gonna get in the upcoming steam sale?
Hades for my brother and then I have no idea
probably nothing honestly 😔
No idea. Nothing interest me tbh. Prob save my money for something else, a garden gnome for instance.
Nothing for the time being
Too big of a backlog, and I think I want to commission a friend for some art
hey guys look what my friend sent me for christmas......... https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/866692343738793984/923065761122115594/20211221_220951.jpg?width=1167&height=656

i rlly want prey
Yeah prey and moon crash are great
also i didnt play second extinction rn because im waiting for a friend to be free lmao
I need to finish several games to free space lol
If anyones played opus echo of star song how much is it like spiritfarer? Enjoyed the story of spiritfarer but resource gathering/preparing got a bit boring for me at times
Wow, I didn't now this game exists! I used to play The Last Stand on Kongregate, good times. It's good to see how the game evolved!

I'm playing that game at the moment. God OPUS is being beautiful atm
But is quite different
There is 0 grind mostly
The flow to get upgrades is quite natural
I really want to play Prey, but every time I install it I can't fix the numerous sound problems I have
Aight thx will get the game then
Are the stories connected?
I don't think so. I have to finish Starsong
Oh ok might not get the other two if they offer a worse gameplay experience
Am trying to budget myself this sale
Oh yeah. Starsong is the superior experience
I gotta try Pathfinder sometime later
Or any of these DND styled games
If only I had a PC
I’ll claim it and play it… someday
that was easier than I expected

well this is...interesting
I mean I knew Ready or Not was gonna have some very serious scenarios but I got a feeling they split because Team17 always published more friendly games
Well, I did it, I bought Voice of Cards
hope you enjoy it! do update with your thoughts
i'll start it tomorrow
Man Rev was an Experience
hmmmmmmm.
i heard this game kinda blows
but....it's like a sequel to project reality
yeah, and after playing it I cannot comprehend how most people say FE3B2 has the worst earlygame in the franchise

I forgot I had left it before the final chapter
hey you remember that one book
well game based off it is free on gog rn
And yep it's Vampyr for free on EGS rn
hell yes always wanted to play this
also im more curious about the New on EGS games
those that weren't leaked yet
I got the Happy Home Paradise dlc for Animal Crossing. I'm so disappointed in myself but having so much fun lol
It's really fun ngl
the best thing i've learned from slime rancher is that i love the mosaic-saber largos slimes
well, mainly I liked that Hades was fluid, well-presented, accessible to people who weren't fans of the genre
so noita gameplay is quite different from Hades
being a side scroller
what they are similar is that they are both rougelite, as in, you get random power ups, random enemies, if you die you start from the beginning
also noita is hard, as in things can one shot you
if you don't know what's going on
if you like the accessibility of Hades then i think you should be cautious, though Noita is a really good game nonetheless
hmm
well with that in mind
I'd be a bit hesitant to pay full price, but 9.99 isn't bad
I'll buy it and see what happens
yeah
you can refund it within 2 hours on Steam
don't abuse it, but just know that it's an option
I just did a refund of another crappy game
would rather not do too many at once
might make the Steam people fussy 😦
fair enough
yeah this game honestly isn't what I'm looking for
feels awkward and annoying to play
I will refund
hope Steam doesn't hate me
only played 25 min
i think you should be fine
maybe risk of rain 2 or curse of the dead god would be closer to your taste?
curse of the dead gods seems more appealing
I like Hades best OFC, but I've already played this game for about 40 hours
other issue is
my current computer is crappy
once new year comes
I can have a solid computer get comped by work
so then things will get better
idk if this goes here but
heres a room im extremely proud of that i did in the sims
oh cute!
ah yes, tactical rug, so you can put all dust under it
very cool
I never really grew an appreciation for rugs until Animal Crossing, which is just such a funny thing to me: that a video game would let give me a second wave of interest in interior design.
...yes, the first was watching my parents watch HGTV, shush
YouTube blessed me with their recommended

got this the other day too ,it’s amazing
The poets shall sing of all these rugs
I got it a bit ago as well shared it with my friends lol
YouTube be blessing us all this holiday season, it seems
I could honestly write an essay about how much pure comedy gold it is
Also, that Lucas/Diamond cosplay was surprisingly well done
And then there's Garchomp XD
Bit of a topic change, but anyone play VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action? I have booted it up again recently, and it's plot is reflecting my current situation...eerily well. It's very cathartic, actually. This game is going to become closer to my heart now: I can feel it.
Oh the epic cyberpunk emo girl bartender simulator? Yeah I do know of it
Also since this year has been so dreadful in matter of shooters, since pretty much Halo, COD and BF all kind of blew, there's Ready or Not which I played at a friend's and oh boy I'm surely getting it for Christmas, it's amazing
Another free game on Epic for those interested:
https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/p/pathfinder-kingmaker
oooo very nice i knew this but i kinda want it
I've seen the trailers, it looks cool. I don't have a gaming PC though 😅
Oh, it's on Switch too! That's what I play it on. I don't have a gaming PC either, so I feel ya lmao
oh nice!
Huh, just looked it up: it's also on PS4
Quadrilateral Cowboy was the pc game I wanted to play, that's it
well and Cyberpunk 🤣
I'm becoming obsessed with games with a cyberpunk setting again. (flashback to middle school memories of playing Cytus on my phone)
If I did ever decide to make a video game for fun, it would probably be based in a cyberpunk setting
Although that West Side Story rhythm game idea I came up with not too long ago seemed fun...if not absolutely terrifying
shudders in copyright and compositional nightmare
yeah cyberpunk setting is awesome, especially if you're an older millennial like me (30+). The nostalgia is real
I'm an older gen Z (21), so I just like the social aspects of it (but what do you expect from someone who mainly plays games for their narratives lmao). I especially like more recent cyberpunk editions that attempt to get rid of the techno orientalism that was extremely prominent in older cyberpunk (like the TTRPG Balikbayan, which is a cyberpunk fantasy setting based on Filipino folklore). As a Filipino-American myself, I love reclaiming stories like that. Plus, the cyberpunk aesthetic in general is just fun!
1/4 JPN here, so I get you on the annoying orientalism
god Firefly was awful about that too
Although I suppose I do have a sense of my own nostalgia for it in the form of my memories playing Cytus on my phone in middle school
Rayark is a Taiwanese developer too, so seeing their narrative in Cytus was lots of fun
It's really fun seeing Asian and Asian disapora creators make their own interpretations of the cyberpunk genre tho
definitely; never played Cytus but looking at the art, it looks neat
speaking of cyberpunk aesthetic, The Ascent looks so incredible too, at a design/visual level
Highly recommend it: other than mobile, there is actually a version on Switch that I've been procrastinating getting my hands on because I am absolutely broke
As for The Ascent, it really does look cool!
I love myself the sprawling chaos of cyberpunk cities
yup, although part of me does spend a lot of time thinking about the "punk" part of that genre. Like rural or dystopian life, left behind
Oh, def. As I grow up, I find myself thinking more being more appealed by the "punk" aspect. And even the punk ideology in of itself can be such a diverse thing. Everyone and anyone can be punk, and in a cyberpunk setting especially, it's often the underdogs who are the most righteous in their setting.
from now on we dont know whats coming
CYTUS SOCIETY
so-Cy-ety
bruh if theyre taiwanese whyd they kick out the hong kong supporting music artist
something something china market
I heard the next epic's free is Control, if it's true, why did they make it free again?
My guess is that by contract they can re-put the same again for free, but with needing to pay less so that's the reason. Since they surely don't gain any money from this, they are trying to cut corners where they can with this plan to give out free games at such rate. Same was Vampyr if I am not wrong.
Though it's all guesses on what I think the reasoning for it
same for actually Remnant From The Ashes
There is probably someone who has more educated understanding the reasoning behind them giving away the game they already given away, but my guess is mostly just remembering reading an article on them losing money due to free games and seeing what the contracts were like. So from deduction it's only guessing there is some leeway if the game was given away already.
it's a good day to be a titanfall fan
titanfall 2 just got custom servers thanks to a community modder
i'd say overall im happy with my christmas purchases
Did they take titanfall 1 and 2 servers down?
nah
I thought it was just 1
nah 2 is just getting ddosed to hell
well kinda
but to keep the multiplayer alive they made custom servers
northstar is the client called
it's how iw4x is for MW2 or Plutonium for BO2
Im so glad this game is getting kept alive, we will never ever get a game as good as this in the coming years since Apex makes too much money
I also did with ea play
finished the campaign
now bought it for real
also did a bit of Multiplayer, I like how it's structured
the intros, the retreats, etc. etc.
It's kinda between arena shooters and modern shooters if you get me
AYYYYYY
(lol just saw this: I got swept up with my family friend Christmas gathering)
I still bop to Coma every now and then
Especially because I can sing along to the lyrics (smiles proudly in Filipino)
Cytus was my post-Vocaloid phase in terms of music. I'm now back into Vocaloid again lmao
So watch me get back into Cytus
idk if anyone remembers this game from the annapurna showcase but https://twitter.com/NeonWhiteDev/status/1471223770295721992 neon white got delayed rip
Hey everyone.
I wanted to give a quick update regarding the release date of Neon White.
It's still coming this Winter,
It's just Early 2022.
The team is working hard to create the best experience possible, and we can not wait for you guys to see what we have in store.

mfw control is free again
i recently got into disco elysium but i have a feeling there's a bunch of stuff i need to do to progress, but i don't have the slightest of chance of succeeding in the checks necessary to progress. anyone got any tips on how to advance so i can get enough xp (and money) so i can at least grow my stats and pay for my room?
you get a room for free when the bridge opens
otherwise ur char just sleeps outside I think
I remember progress being locked behind a check just gotta retry it until it works
you can retry those after a day iirc
about stats and checks, try exploring and doing side tasks or talking to people to gain xp. also, keep an eye on thoughts - they can help with your initial task. about your room, you can ask people for money, but if you fail that, dont worry about it too much, youll get help eventually. you can also find a bag and collect tare for money
what archetype did you go with, or did you build your own character? just out of curiosity :]
i chose the logical one!
since it was my first time playing i figured it was better to pick an archetype instead of making one myself
yeah, i felt the same! i chose the sensitive one, and grew very fond of it... most of my subsequent playthroughs were with the same build
Also, the game is made to be replayed
you can always Savescum, or retry after finishing
With different atribbutes
Hey everyone hit me with your top 3 games you played this year.
- mh rise
- team fight tactics
- luck be a landlord
Would probably be mine
i played a lot of games this year, but probably
- disco elysium
- sable
- nier replicant
Mine would probably be (in no particular order)
- Death's Door
- Monster Train
- Deep Rock Galactic
I only played a few games this year but some I liked where
-hades
-alice madness returns
-animal crossing new horizon
Mine:
- A Hat in Time
- Death's Door
- Unbeatable [White Label] (this one's not finished but I like the songs)
I wanted to put MHRise
but as I think about it
MHRise is like top 5
-forza horizon 5
-Minecraft
-Either destiny 2 or R6
if visual novel counts, here's mine:
- steins gate series
- danganronpa series
- halo mcc
- Hades
- Civilization VI
- Witcher 3
The top 3 games I played this year... 🤔
this was a rough year, with little new blood for me. But....
1.) No More Heroes 3
2.) Assassin's Creed: Odyssey
3.) Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye
- Metroid Dread
- 13 Sentinels
what have i even played this year lol... fenyx rising and ruined king
Top 3 played this year for me is
Into the Breach
Figh'N Rage
Furi
Chrono Trigger is also really good
The top games I played this year? Hm
Hades
Animal Crossing New Horizons
Fire Emblem Three Houses and VA-11 Hall-A are pretty much tied for third place lol
TH is so good
Hades, Hollow Knight and uh Nier Replicant out of obligation of being in that fandom for a while
I admit Nier Replicant is more of an experience than a gameplay game
that's No More Heroes, for me
-pyre
-bastion
-spiritfarer
the only games i have played this year
I am still mentally and emotionally recovering from every route except Silver Snow. Silver Snow is my least fav route, but only because I deeply regret playing it first (glares at final boss that I only managed to defeat after 89 turns)
I did Verdant Winds so I kinda got the best experience after I recruited Petra 🤣
I still need to finish VW and SS
but I started up a CF playthrough but fell off
I feel like Blue Lions has the best actual story, with Dmitri's arc
Someone did a SS Byleth only and had to plan for the 99 turn cap iirc
Oh god, I love my Blue Lions
DEDUE SOCIETY
ASHE SOCIETY
On the topic of Ashe, he came dangerously close to undergoing his own Dimitri arc (see his paralogue)
I THOUGHT Ashe was gonna be my fave until Dedue happened
I SHIP THEM THO
OTP SO HARD
LIKE THEIR ENDING IS SO SWEET
But yes, seeing Dedue smile sent me
My new religion: Dedue's smile
Their ending is good!
It's soo good it made me almost cry
I love them together
Dedue: You shouldn't be seen around me
Almost everyone who had supports with him: Well now I'm just going to be seeing you all the time
An ex-friend once discussed with me about how come Catherine and Lonato were dark skinned, and speculated that they might be half Duscur, and the story planned to talk about how Faergus-Duscur relations were pretty good before ToD, but then the thread got scrapped
so Ashe probably had something like that planned maybe
Dedue's such a good boy and deserves all the head pats...but he's too tall. Pls lean down so I can give you head pats, my sweet summer child ;-;
Speaking of which, Ashe's paralogue title got scuffed during translation. The actual meaning is closer to "never under the same sky", an idiom describing how two (or more) people or entities have so much animosity that they can't stand to exist under the same sky
I am playing Blue Lions again, and there is a strong part of me that wants to make Ashe a bow knight or some other cavalry class because he has singlehandedly made me obsessed with knights and other chivalric romances.
Also, Ashe and Felix's C support gets me all the time. Felix has a soft spot for both him and Annette and no one can tell me otherwise
Lorentz has one of my favorite arcs in the story, actually
so many people hate his guts that they didn't bother to experience his coming-of-age arc. I love it
oh gods I had an entire thesis about how Dedue got majorly screwed over in the English localization in my old twitter that I deleted over a petty fight
YES I AGREE. I saw it coming, but it was still soooooooooo good.
That said, I wish he could A support Ferdinand ;-;
their C and B are so good....
Lorentz is like a less cartoonish Draco Malfoy, with a proper growth
I always made Ashe Bandit to get Death Blow, then go into Wyvern. Flying lockpicker stonks
I am still so salty about it. THEY ARE TEA BUDDIES. THEY'RE EVEN THE REASON WE HAVE TEA PARTIES IN THE GAME. SO WHY NO A SUPPORT INTSYSSSSSSSSS
inhale
Okay, I'm calm
we can have a 3H screaming session
Speaking of Three Houses, I actually grew to love Cyril despite the fact I know a lot of people don't like him.
His Manuela support is gold
I obiviously paired him with Lysithea in my first Golden Deer playthrough hehehe
yes he can be mean. He's also 14
LITERALLY
Leave the kid be
The solution is a stepladder
I still laugh at how comically tall he is even compared to MByleth.
Sir, I need a wyvern to pat you on the head-
Every day is a 3H screaming session for me, so company would be appreciated
I had an old post about how I calculated Hades' height, got 217, and went "ok I'm making you 196 in any shared 3H AUs because only Dedue can have the 2 meter+ height"
also no human deserves a 21x+ height. Poor knees
Cyril is an amazing Wyvern Rider
Dedue, pls let me borrow some of your height
Sincerely,
a 4'10 man ;-;
Better yet, Dedue, let me piggyback you
He has a strong back
definitely no bisexually simping here absolutely not-
every day is a pro simping day
- OPUS Echo of Starsong
- Library of Ruina
- Eastward
I only found out recently that Cyril can be recruited pre-timeskip. It was lowkey embarrassing for whatever was left of my ego lmao
Every day is a pro simping day in the Fire Emblem fandom
But like seriously, Fire Emblem was the franchise that single handedly made me more bisexual, followed by Hades
Don't you recruit Cyril by just talking to him!!?!
I do wish we got a Hoshido-like nation in 3H
yeah more not-Europe pls
LOOK I WASN'T THINKING I KNOW ;-;
God, I wanted more stuff on Duscur, Almyra, and Brigid. Like, as a BIPOC gamer, I hate it when BIPOC-coded nations are just...cast aside. They're deemed tragic at best and "savage" at worst...unfortunately, both happen in Three Houses
welcome to homogenous Japan
Yeah ;-;
cries in Filipino
It's why I'm happy that the video game market is slowly but surely diversifying
yup
The US and Japan have dominated the market for so long
Genshin Impact is probably are biggest example, but I've been seeing a lot of indie games especially gaining big fandoms. I myself got into indie gaming from Coffee Talk (Toge Productions in Indonesia)
RIGHT a lot of Black people have good points about how racist some of the story is
Genshin Impact is the BotW-like, right?
yes
I need more Afro-Asian pop culture
BRO SAME
One of the things I want to study in uni is Black and Asian American cultures and how they have mixed over the years. It's quite fascinating: a good example is how a lot of Black Americans absolutely love kung fu and other martial arts films.
God, if I had the resources and a team to work with, I would love to create a game exploring Afro and Asian pop culture
Eurydice being a Blasian dryad with Edo-period yakuza aesthetic was what put Hades' character design to elite-level for me
Did anyone already get mad about not being able to romance Claude or can I save the spiel
OH OF COURSE I WAS MAD
BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS EVEN MORE MAD ABOUT
DIMITRI WAS CLEARLY MAKING HEART EYES AT BYLETH REGARDLESS OF GENDER
WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T ROMANCE MY CHEESE LOVING LION BOY
One of the best portrayals of Eurydice to date, and I will die on that hill
Claude also dances with you at the ball regardless of gender
I liked 3H but its mlm representation left a lot to be desired, almost to the point of being outright insulting
Oh def
As mlm myself, it was very sad
That said, I do like the male characters I was able to romance
All one of them?
Yuri is forever my fav. Jeritza is so sweet, and Linhardt really grew on me, especially because I myself relate to him a lot.
Yes, I am disregarding Gilbert and Alois because those were non-romance endings, which was just plain stupid
I feel bad for anyone who was trying to romance Alois
Alois is such a good man too
He's charming in his own silly way
And his supports with Dimitri are so wholesome
One of my favorite fan art works was Dimitri saying to MByleth "I will die for you," and MByleth, with a smile on his face, replying "No, Dimitri: let's live for each other"
MAN I ALMOST CRIED-
You can really tell how people fall when your mlm options are 1 (3 with DLC) versus wlw being 5, plus only being able to romance one house leader vs all three
All the house leaders should have been romanceable by Byleth regardless of gender
Like, yes, all of the students adore Byleth, but the house leaders in particular take that adoration to the next level
I wouldn't have been as annoyed if the couple non-romantic options uh
Didn't have S ranks
The us doesn't dominate the market that much tho
It's just that any western looking game is squared as an American game even if it isn't
GTA? Scottish
Minecraft? Swedish
The Witcher? Polish
Assassin's Creed? French
Of the 25 most sold videogames only 6 are from the USA. And one is a port of Tetris, which is Soviet.
Regardless, it doesn't remove from the fact that those games are lacking in diversity, and are at best uncomfortable, and at worst offensive. That's what we were talking about when it comes to Three Houses. And it especially makes sense in the context of the game and the company that made it. The game itself is based on traditional European fantasy, but the views very much align with Japan's views of the world (more accurately, how it's views have reflected upon its relations with other countries, especially other Asian countries).
Ah, that's fair. I just get irritated when I see people conflating all the western media as like being from the USA
When the USA lost any hope for getting hegemony after the videogame crash
And within Three Houses, it's not just Dedue. Another character with whom I had issues with was Petra: I love her as a character, but her archetype is almost comically the "pretty native/island girl" to the point it's super uncomfortable, especially to me as a Filipino.
Tbh, I hope places like SEA and Africa slowly get to build their own industry
All Indonesian games I've played showed me there is genuine blooming talent there
Same! I have seen a lot of good stuff from SEA (Coffee Talk, again, hehehe), and I love the idea of an growing African market. As someone who studies postcolonial literature, African literature has a close place in my heart.
And I mostly play games for their narrative aspect. So yeet lmao
Yeah. People with unique and unknown cultures to the world at large showing us their take on videogames is an exciting prospect
God, just talking about all of this makes me excited. I live in Texas, and a hugely diverse city in it, to be exact. I have seen cultures grown and change in real time in my very own backyard, and honestly, I want people all over the world to have that same experience through art. And video games are an amazing (and increasingly accessible way) to do so.
Speaking of accessibility, I highkey need more games geared towards disabled players. Like, games that can actually be played by people who normally can't play them because of their disability.
Depends of the disability
One finger death punch can as the name said. Be played with one finger but you need sight to see it
Same as Kingdom two crowns. It only uses three keys (Left, right and Down)
True! I haven't taken motor disabilities into account! That said, I do wish for video games especially for blind, vision impaired, and epileptic players.
I feel that is an entirely untapped market that can lead to amazing feats of technology
I mean, so many things have been made and were super successful and were originally created with disabled people in mind
Off the top of my head, just using binaural sound and headphones can be a great place to start
Depends of the level of blindness. For someone with partial blindness Most games mostly already include a good array of visual settings to modify the gamma, brightness or even color blind mode. But for someone with total blackness it's impossible or almost impossible to adapt a game based on visual cues that is winnable for someone who can't see. A game made from the ground up to be played without visuals would be technically possible however
There was a blind person here a while ago who plays hades through mods, was pretty interesting
there are some games in which the protagonist is blind, and we have to play mostly by sound clues, but still they have some visual clues to help the narration
maybe, it's just the nature of the problem, since completely blind people can't use PCs and consoles like any other people do, they need a complete special software with sound-based interface, maybe even special input devices
(my keyboard is being mean to me so I apologize if any terrible typos happen)
That's exactly the thing that would be worthy of exploration though: new technology aimed especially for the goal of universal design.
The thing is at the end of the day. Despite videogames being an audiovisual media. Devs put much more emphasis in the visual part than the audio part, as the game almost always expects you to react to the screen and not the sound
If you put a deaf player and a blind player of equally skill to race a variety of videogames. The deaf player would almost always win because videogames are more reliant in graphics.
3d games also kinda lose point, since you can't be sure where you're looking at with mouse inputs, so some kind of headgear instead would be nice
Hell, who hasn't played a game without sound cause you didn't want to wake up your parents while playing at the console?
also, we still don't have tactile outputs as a thing
This is why I think video games are a good way to push technological capabilities. After all, creating a game is easier said than done (obviously). So many advancements have been made because of video games or to assist gamers in general.
For example, when I was training to become a professional musician, a lot of the things I had to do for my health (physical, mental, and emotional) reflects a lot of exercises used by professional esports teams.
Not to mention that, again, so many things were created with disabled people in mind.
Sorry: this kind of talk just makes me really excited, haha
nah, that's ok
It may be a bit idealistic, but large and greedy mega corporations aside, the video game industry has always been, at it's core, borderline revolutionary in so many aspects.
Just thinking about it makes me interested in game development again, haha
i'm still waiting till something interesting and working will be presented in VR sector of the market, like that tactile output gloves and controllers, so ppl can touch and hold objects
or another means of moving, rather then arrow keys
That would be so cool oh my god
as a motion-disabled, i'd like to walk without canes at least somewhere
As someone who has used a cane before, I feel ya ;-;
and there are different concepts popping up here and there, for years now
but still no mass production
maybe bc VR is still not that popular to invest much, gear is still too expensive
maybe problem could be solved at least partially with VR rentals or something
like arcades before.. not everyone can afford a full arcade machine in the house
Oh yeah, def
That's another accessibility thing that spreads even beyond video games themselves: money. And even if you do have money, what about power? High-speed internet for online games? There is, sadly, a wide economic disparity, and although it has come considerably far since the early days of the industry, there's still ways to go.
Me, referring to Cyrus from Octopath Traveler: Yeah, he has a British accent
My boyfriend with utter disdain in his voice: Oh, he's English
Me: PFFFFFFFFFFFFT
Weirdly enough, he didn't react like this when he started simping for Zag. I see your double standards, love
h'aanit my beloved
I love them all ;-;
Octopath was my third bisexual awakening in terms of video games
Tressa enjoyer floating through
Hopefully Triangle Strategy holds up
the demo was a bit too big brain for me
oh gods I remember that reveal where there was no fire emblem news so just about every FEtuber went to stream the PTS demo as copium and found that it was Pretty Good Actually
SMT V is alright
was close to getting XC2 but P5 is the game that sent me down this JRPG rabbit role
so I figured I’d try its more difficult older brother
if you're able to get a copy still or emulate it i'd also recommend persona 3
or persona 3 portable, since that one has an option to play as a female protagonist if that's what you like playing as (that's why i'm playing portable instead of regular p3)
I’ll get around to it eventually, I’m aware that P3 is goated
still need to finish golden
today's state mandated epic games free game is rather underwhelming
a man of high level dual classing culture, i see
imo persona 3 sucks, the story is slow and predictable and the gameplay is awful unless you are playing portable because that's the only one where you can control your party members. "ok then play portable" but then the gameplay that's not dungeon crawling and tb combat is completely gone and essentially turns into a point and click game. the best way to play is to get p3 fes and patch it so you can control your party members but you still have a mediocre game because the next two games do combat and story way better. and the p3 characters are some of the most unlikeable video games characters i've ever seen. tl;dr p5 and p4 good, p3 bad.
i am excited for triange strategy but it is more on the FFT branch than FE branch from what i've played of the demo
or Tactics Ogre tbh
I may or may not have watched too many speedruns, yes
P3 does much more interesting things with its themes and plot imo, plus it doesn't dumpster some of my favorite character arcs to please the suits
i've never been able to play p4 because it was never released on a platform i owned or was able to use in Europe and the steam version only works on Windows so i can't pitch in when it comes to P4, but i played both P3(P) and P5 and i actually feel the other way around. i found that while P5 is a lot more stylish and definitely has a lot of mechanical improvements over P3, i found the character writing and story a lot more disappointing than P3's
I don't think I've heard anyone talk about P5 favorably when it comes to plot
P5 started incredibly strong imo with the kamoshida arc, especially when it came to the character of Ryuji, but once that arc concluded things just went out the window so easily
the game made Ann the very object she fought against being in the amoshida arc, and made Ryuji "i respect women" Sakamoto into the typical pervert trope. very very disappointing
Also Morgana kinda sucks, Teddy really sucks, and Aegis smokes them both
i got tired of Morgana so quickly honestly, Aegis best girl
Gameplay-wise though I pretty much agree that P3 is sort of a mess
also i miss the same sex romance options Persona used to have. it's not the main reason why i play these games but they do matter to the social link aspect and i appreciated being able to pursue a romantic relationship with a male character as a male pc in P2 and with Aegis as the female protag in P3P
It gets points for not being able to control party members being a ludonarrative knockout, but loses them because that uh, sucks
P3P has the advantage you can control your party but i definitely agree that cruising through Tartarus becomes tiresome really fast
excuse the irony but aegis felt like a robot
she was so stiff
Anyone played here Bravely Default 2? How does it compare to the others?
Is BD2 the sequel to BD1 or is Bravely Second the sequel to BD1
though i felt the same about Mementos in P5, though that one has less enemies and P5 does have the palaces that make the main dungeons a lot more interesting
man y'all got me thinking about Ogre Battle now
Right but I know one of them is a sequel to BD1 and I don't remember which
BD2 is apparently unconnected
That tracks, I remember it not making a lot of sense
All I know about Persona 4 is Ose and how is plot is like "yeah".
I've heard good things from a friend about BD2
mementos and tartarus are basically the same and both are pretty poorly executed one is the main combat system one is a xp grinding area, it's completely optional
I need Octopath's composer to get more opportunities to score music, plx
isn't Mementos eventually mandatory? it's been a while since i played to the end of that game but i remember i had to get to the bottom of mementos for the game to progress
there's social link mementos requests
Octopath's Battle 1 is legit more hype than some game's boss music
(even it's own boss 1)
it's a personal taste thing i think, but i've always really enjoyed the TWEWY ost a lot
takeharu ishimoto's done so many great scores but i always feel like square enix uses him on their less popular projects
not surprised he's freelancing now
Boss 2 is god-tier one of the best i've ever heard in a JRPG, tho
Twister is one of my all time favorite video game songs and I pop off every time there's a new version
Love the kh3D one
oh my god same
the kh3d one was pretty rad! NEO twewy's one wasn't that different from the og one iirc
I was so happy when the twewy anime op guy committed tax?fraud? Iirc and they rushed out a new twister instead lmao
wait the twewy anime op guy did what now

i feel like nowadays, you can't even become important if you haven't committed at least a lil tax fraud
I'm sorry WHAT
sometimes it just be like that
quietly screams
also i see a claude dp!! golden deer unite!
FEAR THE DEAR
HELL YEAH BROTHER
golden deer was my favourite route/house tbh
death knight: i have come to murder you
lysithea: hey
Golden Deer is amazing story wise, but I personally fell in love with the Blue Lions route
Dimitri, my beloved ;-;
DIMITRI MY BELOVED
wish i could have romanced dimitri and claude with a male byleth ):
Also, I just love pretty much all of Dedue's supports. They can basically be summarized as so.
Dedue: You shouldn't be seen around me.
Everyone else: Don't worry I have a permit
Permit: I can do what I want
DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THAT AAAAAAA
except for Ingrid, BYE INGRID
i only played as f!byleth and romanced all 4 romanceable female characters in the 4 routes (i don't rly count sothis) but dorothea was my favourite of those!
unrelated but i wanted to say that i got aoc and just learnt that impa can summon giant frogs
that is all
DOROTHEA MY BELOVED
I love my beautiful songstress ;-;
Weirdly enough, I haven't romanced her on either of my Black Eagles playthroughs. I've only romanced Linhardt (who stole my heart out of left field) and Jeritza
i did edelgard for black eagles bc that was the only available route for hers but
i was a little disappointed by that one 😦
i expected a bit more personal depth apart from "thanks for your support"
All that said, I do believe Edelgard and Dimitri are the characters that simp the most for Byleth
WHICH IS WHY I'M EVEN MORE SALTY ABOUT MBYLETH NOT BEING ABLE TO ROMANCE DIMITRI-
OH MY GOD YURI MY BELOVED
I'm currently planning to romance Hapi in my current playthrough, but after that, I'm going to replay Golden Deer and romance Yuri
HAPI
Yuri during C support: Mess with my people and I will slit your throat
Me, definitely not blushing: Y-Yes sir
she's so cute
HAPI STOLE MY HEART LIKE YURI STOLE MY MONEY
Coincidentally, it was Hapi's support chain with Yuri that made me fall for her
also golden deer has the best uh....that one word that might be banned on this server
judith
please let me date the older women i am BEGGING Y-
I myself love astronomy. Sadly, I am a city kid: I have never seen the night sky in all its glory before
Judith be very, very pretty
why couldn't i date manuela as f!byleth
My ideal type is basically anyone who can kill me. Problematic? Maybe. But I haven't died yet, so I think it's working out fine
now that's a mood
YEAH WTF MANUELA HAS UNTAPPED BISEXUAL ENERGY
that's me struggling through 7 days of pathologic 2 just for the inquisitor to show up bc she's a pretty lady
with a ton of authority
GOD I KNOW
INTSYS WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO US
feel like i just stepped back into 2019
REACH FOR MY HAND
2019 had so many bangers
pathologic 2, disco elysium, fire emblem three houses, sekiro
I was still recovering from Azura's song in Fates, and then Edelgard breaks down the door to make me cry
(untitled goose game)
OH LORD UNTITLED GOOSE GAME
I haven't actually played it yet, but I am already a menace in real life: might as well take it out on fictional characters, hehehe
Manuela flirting to Fyleth is one of the few things EN localization actually improved over the original script
I know a lot of people have problems with the ENG localization, but if there's one thing I love about it, the voice actors did not disappoint. I am still reeling every time I hear characters mocking one another.
FOR EXAMPLE Ingrid’s “your apologies are empty” line was added in English
In the original she just says “no” pretty non confrontationally
Ugh, as if her and Dedue's supports weren't bad enough
Dedue's character arc in general just makes me uncomfy, especially as someone who is BIPOC. Sure, FE3H was made in Japan, but god, the attempts at writing characters that were clearly non-European and non-Japanese were...bad
Believe me, I know
Filipino history flashbacks
The more I learn of Japan's history and how it reflects in its culture, the more I internally cry
Mmm
never played fire emblem
Me and my bisexual self introducing Fire Emblem to my friends: Hello would you like to talk about my lord and savior the bisexual pantheon
I'm playing the final map of berwick saga, and since my cat is sleeping I can use my headphones, I forgot how godly this map's music was
well, berwick music is just godly overall
i feel like the souls games is one of those few japanese game series where the devs actually portray different cultures somewhat decently
mostly i think bc so many of them are set in medieval of victorian western areas
while creating their own cultures within those settings
FE moment
I am still recovering from the Shambala music in FE3H
And (when I was still playing it) Book 3 intro video music of FEH was just...god tier
Me: Okay, time to play this fantasy chess anime game-
Music: screams
when a Funeral for Flowers sets in during Silver Snow's last fight
as good as other games' music is, for me nothing can beat this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovpzKsgs_r8&t=20s
scuse me
bisexual pantheon league brainrot too strong i saw this and had to doubletake bc i was thinking like. pantheon the character. bi. like yes thats my jam. oh wait no i misread that entirely nvm carry on i guess??
