I already "finished" the game, but I'm going through all the days again getting all the enemies in all the difficulties
Having to beat every boss like 3 times is a tedious task
Oh. I'll probably just do all sidequests
SOLAR ASH launches tomorrow on PS5, PS4, and Epic Games Store.
PlayStation: https://bit.ly/SolarAshPS
Epic Games Store: https://bit.ly/SolarAshEpic
OH
Have any of you played risk of rain 2 before?
it's a shooter so kbm for sure
okedoke
Same! Although didn't expect the price to be such, but oh well. Can always save up to such.
RoR is such an excellent game, worth it if you're looking for something cheap to sink time into. Definitely best in coop tho
I'm trying it out right now
Just got spooked by around 15 bosses spawning because I activated 2 "challenge of the mountain" altars or whatever they are called
10/10 almost had a heart attack
So, Solar Ash looks and plays like The Pathless, but with a little bit more combat thrown in?
Ah yes, the 'maybe I shouldn't but I would anyway' shrine
Always click them
That's the rule
so the people who purchased it can't play it anymore?
Yup
and no more updates? i heard recently respawn had like 2 people on the titanfall steam release working on trying to solve the hacker problem
since the rest is too busy with their cashcow apex legends
steamcharts indicates 0 players active and the game cant be found while searching on steam
it's dead.
looks like they just stopped bothering. kind of depends what the general terms of agreement are for the sale and whether or not those terms are in line with either Steam's TOS or the applicable country's laws
TF1 wasnt that good but I understand the loyal playerbase
I dont want the same to happen to 2
sadly it kind of is
is it an always online thing? i can imagine EA saying there's still a single player campaign but if you need to be online to even access that than yeah, it's basically Andrew Wilson walking into your house, taking the disc of the game you bought and just walking out
Titanfall 1 has no singleplayer. And yes it's always online
oof, wonder how that works since publishers like selling you a license to play a game rather than the game itself
i at least hope EA is forced to refund everyone who got it on Steam
Servers are still up just that you cant buy it anymore and subscription based purchase will end on march 1st.
Though unsure how much Respawn can be blamed here for this. Keeping first Titanfall for this long is already something. Considering server maintenance can be quite something and there is always a risk in buying online games with age it's a human part of the game that can't be gauged really besides checking given numbers by the community page.
Still feels unfair especially when you paid for it
But I guess it's no use to make a competent anti cheat
I think when you pay for an old multiplayer game (that's probably already put on quite of a low price) there is always a risk of buying it before the announcement of it closing down servers, production or such being soon especially if it's clear what state the game is. Though this doesn't prevent them from playing the game if they already bought, just prevention from very small amount of new players or small amount of new hackers or second accounts of hackers.
Plus it's not like there are three other projects the company wants to pursue. Fighting hackers is an endless battle, since eventually you will anyways have a moment where it's not manageable or worth it in the end time of the game.
Id be more upset if this was TF2 tbh
Online games are a service, not a product. Players seem to have accepted this for f2p games but theres still a mindset change needed for games that have an upfront cost
the games as a service model kills game preservation imo
Where's the money for server maintenance gonna come from then though
microtransactions my dear watson
those are either abusive or unreliable
yup
I'd much rather pay a subscription lol
haven't been into online games much myself
Well the only sub I've paid so far was the one for ffxiv
And I still have no clue why people have such a phobia for subs
thats single player disguised as mmo
Mmo disguised as singleplayer you mean
or actually maybe mmo disguised as singleplayer disguised as mmo lol
i play it. so it cant be an online game

I'd rather a game be free and a subscription model with access to all content than f2p with microtransactions
What about paid games that require a subscription because of their online nature though
i do mean for online games
not regular games
but for games that are pay up front, a small price should be the max
esp if you're also gonna charge large sums for expansions
i guess the ff14 trial thing is pretty generous
ahem halo infinite
the free trial is extremely generous lol
What's a large sum or small price for you though
all this excuse of fixing the monetization when the employees come from vacation is made up, they knew damn well nobody woukd like it so they made it look like a mistake
Great otherwise but lacks a ton of content but it's free
but yes I very much rather pay 10 bucks for the standalone multiplayer and earn everything through fair means
I felt it was generous when it was capped at 35 lmao
dbd for free so you can finally see why the hell your friends are playing this
and soon a godawful game created by none other but gearbox
Identity V in shambles
Is dbd good?
💀
WHAT
do dbd fans think generators dont exist?
irl??
theres one behind my couch what???
so is it good or not
ironically dbd is too repetitive for me
yes this is very hypocritical I know but like damn
Yes technically but it only gives you a sense of tension that's all
Ah, so not like out right pee your pants scary or too gory, might add it to my list of games to play
Thats good,
watch my bro play it sometimes. you queue, get in a lobby, one of you becomes "it" and then you play hide and seek/ tag
That requires friends
And space
And coordinated scheduling
And everyone wanting to do it
And no pandemic
All luxuries in this day and age
I don't like playing DbD but I respect the effort they put into the killers
But I also hate that they started selling NFTs, so
Swordcery: Prologue is a rogue-like, melee-based action RPG. Test your mettle (but also your metal) as you discover and unleash the power behind a multitude of magical swords to defeat an otherworldly Celestial evil! Your quest will challenge your reactions, lead you through treacherous biomes, and pit you against the most formidable enemies and...
If any of ya want to support it. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/templedoorgames/swordcery-an-action-packed-sword-swingin-rogue-like.
as far as i've heard they didnt? the people who actually own hellraiser were using the dbd models for nft, dbd themselves did not sell nft
im sure theres an entire conversation to be had about their involvement in it but i also never kept up closely with the situation since im not into dbd but friends that are told me it was the folks that own hellraiser that was actually doing the nft stuff
As far as I was aware the NFTs included unique skins for Pinhead in DbD, which makes them complicit
But I also haven't checked up on it in a while
you 🤝 me
we didnt keep up with it
Berwick saga best FE
Another space game just released nice

Now I can wait to Everspace 2 to get out of EA

literal actual abuse isn't something you choose to not take sides over???? hello am i in crazyland
One word: money
hope everyone turns on game awards for this clownery
i mean the entire thing is a joke and just for money ANYWAY but like. yknow.
isn't the head of actiblizz that isn't bobby kottick in the advisory commission for the game awards
that would 1) explain everything and 2) this isn't just limited to the game awards. game websites like polygon, ign and many other game media outlets have just "moved on" from the terrible abuse happening at actiblizz
just so they could write and get those desired call of duty review copies
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRAWaole51M Jim Sterling (James Stephanie Sterling) did an excellent video on this problem earlier this week, I highly recommend giving it a watch

CEO is the biggest Worker authority in a company
Presidents are people in charge of its different facets of a company

Absolutely incredible run. Since the start of the 4:54.8 grind, I had 7 runs to 8-2, and this was the first run out of 8-2 going for 4:54.8. I am very happy I was able to clutch out 8-3 and 8-4! My heartrate ended up peaking at 189 BPM after the run was over! This run is also a double WR since I got Both Quests WR right after with an 8:00.875. A...

$225 collection turned into... $20
That's that roguelike I keep hearing about
I thought you posted irl photo lmao
its a turn based tactics game
but on the highest difficulty level it can kind of sort of be played like a rogue like
Oh boy, here we go again
The magic of ArmA 3
the game came out in 2013 yet it is one of the most photorealistic games to date, alongside RDR2 and such
skyrim came out in 2011
and is probably the best looking game
100% textures in native 4k
environments dense with foliage, shaders
thats the power of tens of thousands of people, 10 years, and good mod support

yup and for once it's finally at a good price
content creator dlc's are priced by the modder teams not bohemia tho
so basically bohemia interactive hires modders to make dlc's for their game while they work on hopefully arma 4
The new Western Sahara DLC basically is all a carricature of the desert oil wars of the past 20 years, including NATO which at this point is just the US under a different name in the game's context, United Nations "Peacekeepers", insurgents and some Liberation Front and a big twist, returning ION private military faction
It's very fun to play as an insurgent in these types of games.

speaking of kh was 3 kind of a flop? like granted i muted the name off my twitter feed bc i wanted my feed to be usable but usually with popular stuff i'll still see untagged memes and art and whatever and i feel like i didn't see people talking about 3 at all after like a week
Depends on who you ask
for me kh3 was a massive disappointment
I'm mixed on it
Some of the combat element is good, exploration is a joy.
Everything else tho...

it was supposed to be the epic conclusion to 8 different games, but, at least for me, the story was probably the worst out of any other
it wasnt a flop
5 million sales just the opening week
plenty of which were digital
thats already more than kh2 ever got. not as much as the original though
but most people are mixed
it didnt win any awards from anyone despite getting nominated alot.
that type of lukewarm game that fans of the series can have fun with then move on from
Depends on the type of fan you are 👁️
of course the game sold a lot, it was one of the most highly anticipated things in years. that's not what I'm asking about though
fan reception matters a lot, and I'm saying I feel like people stopped talking about it quickly
When thinking about KH3 I am reminded that someone told me the series was originally a final fantasy and disney crossover. And honestly I barely can see that in KH3. Feels like it's Disney game with a bit of what feels somewhat like Final Fantasy.
This is actually a fair complaint that's echoed pretty hard
iirc there were no ff elements in the original release of kh3
Though I'd say the Disney elements aren't exactly relevant anymore lol
Though they take up the most of the game time too right?
Yeah
The writing of the previous games was brilliant because it moved its own plot using disney settings
In 3 the plot doesn't move in any world other than toy story and olympus
Sora and the gang are just
there
Until some organization member says something cryptic so people don't fall asleep
then we leave the world without accomplishing or learning absolutely anything
Having watched the movie again basically
What exactly are FF elements anyway in this context?
literally anything final fantasy
not a single world nor character was in the original kh3 release that I remember
Whenever I played or watched KH, it always feels like FF is like a guest in a Disney game
Like, barely any hint of FF besides characters from the FF series
But at least there was something, and the characters were directly relevant to the plot and tried to help Sora with his main goal
They may lack a world that's specifically theirs, but they made up for that by integrating them into the actual story in a kh specific world
But hollow bastion/radiant garden is nowhere to be seen (actually correction, it IS seen, a few times, in cutscenes the main chraracters don't see, don't participate and don't hear about)
same thing goes for yuffie, squall, cid, cloud, aerith, sephiroth
I guess so
It’s just that, well, I never felt like I’m playing much FF in KH games. Obviously, just my opinion, but, yeah
Nomura’s character design aesthetics is there, that I can acknowledge
(Nomura's writing is also there :( )
But then, TWEWY characters are designed by Nomura as well too, and we don’t call TWEWY a game with FF elements
Just as an example 👆
3 seemed like it landed pretty middling
That's not what I'm referring to when I say ff elements though
Not horrible but not what people wanted
I mean something that's actually from the series
like the characters that have showed up since the first game but are completely absent in 3
I mean I'll play it any day over dream drop distance I'll tell you that much lol
Yeah, I can understand that
Certainly awkward, I agree
For lack of a better word lol
See also Re:CoM
I didn't grow up with the series but 3 looked like it had some Brain Clap moments
And at the end of the day that's all I really want
the kh franchise has been constant ups and downs anyways
CoM and Re:CoM are absolute garbage and I refuse to believe the concept didn't come out of someone that was high out of their mind
Hard disagree on classic CoM
Actually tbf I have not played the og CoM
Re:CoM is trash because the gameplay flat up does not work in 3 dimensions
I have played Re though, that's a trash heap
Doesn't mean the game isn't incredibly unbalanced though
put a few cards in sequences to activate the special moves you want
add some zeroes at the end
boom
that it
Sure, but you have to go to the effort of getting the cards to do that and unlocking the Sleights
So I'd say that's fair
That's difficulty by size though cause it's just a helluva grind
It is in a RPG, grinding is sorta the bugbear of the genre
It's not hard, it's just tedious until you get it and you've basically won the game
Reverse Rebirth is simultaneously more interesting and also more nonsense
It's slightly more balanced due to the static decks though
Riku is cooler to run around as but some worlds just give you a trashfire deck and you just have to deal with it
Nomura's plots is held together by Belts
There's a massive problem in Re with the difficulties when you factor this in though
I just finished NEO yesterday and quite enjoy it tbh
At least he gives me unique experiences tbh
Some bossfights turn into absolute hell on critical
I mean, Nomura didn't write NEO iirc
He just designed the characters
Cause he IS a character designer, a really good one, but I will never understand why Square insists on putting him in roles he's just not there for
(also you mean retcons)
He overlooked the creative aspects of the game
eg the overall look, design, and feel of everything
I very much doubt he took an active writing role in Neo
but we do know that after kh2 he basically took over as the kh writer
i main mundo pre rework, and now i main vi
Well I despise playing into vi
too bad >:D
so you are now my mortal enemy and I wish for a comet to fall on your house
peace was never a gnoption
who do you play
cause you get to delete me with a q and an auto attack?
okay but what if I go fiora mid
good question, depends on how good your reposte is
depends on how fast your vault breaker is
true, i usually try to q flash on fiora, sometimes they still react fast enough though
fiora players are weird
they either have the godlike predictions
or just die
getting the 100% in Neo twewy is an stupidly tedious process but I'm finally getting closer, only 3% to go
i swear the developers had no right to make you kill everything on every difficulty
I gave up at 52%
I'm just missing like 10 enemies and 30 pins so I'm finishing this even if it's the last thing I ever do
then I'll get onto risk of rain 2 100% which will take even longer 👍
im super late to this bc i was busy grinding but super agree with this. original gba com was brilliant and i loved it. bought the ps2 version when it came out bc i enjoyed the gba one so much, i flat out hated the game and never touched it again after just a couple hours of play. changing the gameplay from 2d to 3d like kh1/kh2 actively worked against the game. i feel bad for anyone whose only experience with chain of memories is the 3d version bc that game was frankly a disservice to the original
to be fair though i also remember almost nothing of the plot because it was pretty bog standard and not particularly memorable. but it was fun to play on gba
It was a rehash of KH1 but with more of a metanarrative
It was also very important to KH2 so it left a lot of people confused
i never found narrative for kh1 very memorable either outside of key plot points so thats fair to me i guess 😭
The tricky thing about KH is that there are no side games story-wise
yeah thats why ultimately i could never get invested in it
i hope to never see another ip do their story the way kh did because that was incredibly obnoxious
you shouldnt need bundled collections of your games to tell a complete story but thats just my onion
iirc the last kh i played was dream drop distance and i did not like it either :/
I also suspect they felt forced because such an important game plot wise being a GBA exclusive felt awkward
mayhaps that is something they should have put more consideration towards beforehand
😔 local tatzes go invest in other ips then, they are Not about this nonsense
I still find hilarious how he started as a debugger for ffv and then he just went up and up
From Digital Janitor to Digital Auteur
Kingdom Hearts lore being needlessy complicated is one thing, but its also kinda really silly and not in a very fun way
BlazBlues lore is more complicated (And has the same issue of "side-content is canon, yes, including that japan-only Visual Novel you never heard of") but at least its fun
"How does xehanort know I'm here?"
"You have an X on your shirt"
Who are the main villains?
Xehanort, Xehanort, Xehanort, Tronahex and Xenahort
Kingdom Hearts is less so complicated are moreso convoluted.
Yeah it's not actually that bad, it's just a combination of spreading the story across just about every console or handheld, and it speaks in circles half the time
But it's literally just Power of Friendship
i remember playing kh3 and getting through it and feeling massively dissatisfied with all the storytelling elements just feeling like they were brushed to the side for gameplay and because disney said so, but that just felt to be expected tbh.
You could just tell there was such a dissonance between the freedom of expression that you could have in the pixar worlds and advancing the idea of "worlds getting interference from outside forces and protecting the world order" whereas I had to learn that Donald Duck was actually getting snow thrown in his face while Elsa sang Let It Go.
plus re:mind being $30 more ON TOP OF paying for a box set of KH3 on release day? No, thank you.
my friend spent seven hours in the login queue today
This video is dedicated to Satoru Iwata (Dec. 6, 1959 – July 11, 2015)
The Lord of the Mountain (nicknamed Satori) is said to be a tribute to the late Nintendo President and CEO Iwata, who passed away before he had the chance to see the finished game. Iwata - a gamer at heart - had been a great influence on the development of Breath of the ...
You cant see your own legs when you look down in Halo Infinite
This is a 2021 game.
Halo 2 did this in 2004.
pepehands
This is why the sub died
But what if I don't want to see my legs
you can wear shoes so you won't see them
Stop abusing lowen
I don't care about Lowen, too busy soloing the game with Marcus
when FE3 was released
And even more in FE10
Well, moreso when FE10 Shinon, most FE10 archers are still bad
Also, FE5 Xavier is pretty much a gattling gun with the brave bow
Xavier is not what I'd call a good unit, but he can do big numbers with the brave bow
FE11 Wolf and Sedgar are also pretty goated, but I'd advise against keeping them as horsemen
people crap on archers for some reason
but i always have at least 1 in my main group
They're bad in some games, like FE7 or 8
sure, they are kinda bad action economy since they don't clear out rooms on enemy turns due to counterattack, but still
Well I've only played 7, fates conquest, and 3h, but out of all of those im pretty sure the only archer that actually put in some work was claude
While in other games bows aren't a bad weapon type, it's just that the unit who use bows are bad, like FE6 aside feom Klein or FE9 aside from Astrid
so you only played 2 fire emblem games
But there's 3 there 🤔
no there's not
Niles is actually one of the best archers in the series
Is he?
Yeah, he can get you a bunch of expendable units thanks to his capture personal skill
I kinda stopped using him cause it'd usually lead into someone dying because of positioning or no 1 turn kills
Haitaka's rally defense is a blessing for chapter 10, for example
Gazak is also really good with brave axe
i have fe 1 for switch but haven't played it yet. have played 6 and up
i made too many archers in echoes
there's just a lot of strong units in echoes iirc
Yeah, and you can deploy everyone outside of dungeons so no need to bench anyone
lmao pretty much
from the early reviews the campaign seems great
apparently it isnt spammed with useless map markers and such
i'll see more on release
spiritfarer's last update of the year is coming in a week, im excited! i plan to finally play it after its released, ive been looking forward to this for a while
Hollow Knight Silksong?
please?
Silksong never-
bayo 3 release date prayer circle
also that's a very cute rowlet icon ❤️
Oh cool! I finished it recently but won't mind picking it up again for this update, it's a very cool game :)
certainly possible
thank you, rowlet is an excellent pokemon :)
def one of my favorites
We know one is Gollum
What is gollum
The more I contemplate about Borderlands 3 the more I realise how incompetent the writing is, revealing even more plotholes
Alright so in Borderlands 2 logs explain Maya basically was into this cult that exploited her Siren powers and found out her beliefs were a lie so she ran away and such. Now in 3 it's the same damn cult but now they are pacifist or something. Wtf.
Jakobs Corporation is potrayed as super greedy and bad like every megacorp but with western old values as a facade but now in 3 they apparently been just like in their publicity?
Also for some reason nobody mentioned anything about the former vault hunters defeating the god damn warrior, one of the biggest feat in the Pandora Wasteland and most things from Tales were just completely forgotten about
||Tannis becomes somehow a siren, no more Krieg/Maya relationship, Lilith got offed in the most awful and embarassing ending cutscene ever, and now the major character is a brat||
i wish eternal damnation upon Randy Pitchford
i didn't need bl3's godawful writing to wish damnation upon randy
the writing sucks
the humor is bad
tales is forever the best borderlands game
To be fair he did worse things than help write BL3
But it's one of his worst sins
First being that he is an absolute child predator and Im sure of that
Anyhow yes Tales was awesome I want more of it sadly Rhys became a former shell of himself thanks to that BL3 godawful writing
Rhys evolved from a corporate wage slave to an absolute chad and then got back into the business stuff. Biggest glow down EVER
wasn't randy pitchford the guy who left a usb stick with important company documents at a medieval times
and not just company documents, but also other...uh....sensitive material
exactly
he's a jack....arse.
the kind of person you wouldnt let manage a once reputable studio for too long
Lotr: Gollum is the new game by Daedalic
Where you control Gollum
tfw bad fiction writing is anywhere near as tantamount a sin as child predation
bl3 is bad. bl2 still the best 360 game of the entire generation
also somehow thinking that randy wrote most of bl3 when 2K had probably 100 writers working on it
I like that I dont even need to ADS to play like a god in that game
also headshots are so easy
But yes I cant stand anything else therefore I barely play it
of course Im exaggerating but I grew up with 2 and the other games and it just hurts
yeah nah I was saying randy is a gross pos regardless of the games he makes
hate that dude
Ye true
BL just has bad writing
Like it just got more complex plot wise
So it started to fall apart
Their best content is what, Tina's DLC? That's a one-off.
Slightly follows the main game plot but it's mostly running around cliffs killing knights and skeletons
The dlc is always better too. It's seperate so it doesnt need to follow the main plot. That's where the best stories and most interesting gameplay is imo
I think the plot issue didnt matter in bl1 for example
It was short enough that it's more like, constantly raising stakes
When they get too bogged in the details, they start thinking about what if these people did a podcast together and it gets too silly
I've heard the gameplay of bl3 is fun at least. I doubt they can make me cringe more than 1 and 2 and tps did.
It's more complex. BL2 has a really good system too though.
TPS probably has the most interesting kits all in all, and I havent even grinded enough to finish a class yet
It doesnt have much content so you have to grind even more than usual
Probably the best final boss fight is in TPS
That's where the plot stuff gets interesting. Weird aliens and stuff.
But left unexplained
Tbh, the writing in the entire BL franchise is the least issue I have with it
I mean, it’s a looter shooter, story doesn’t really mean anything anymore once the gameplay loop turns from progressing the early levels to doing loot runs over and over again
It turns from atmosphere and mood issues to just where can I get more efficiency in my runs
The “numbers” game, to be precise
Yeah
Honestly I wish it had less story
What's that crater called? Brick sends you there to torment some competitor of his basically
Why is that a major end game quest
That takes hours
To get explosives
Why do we need to steal explosives, why is an explosives expert telling me to steal explosives for a bridge
I know at least one other explosives expert too
i wish they saw tales from borderlands and thought "i want more of that in our next game" but nope
Coincidently, I’m playing through BL2 now (assuming you are talking about BL2), and the location is named Sawtooth Cauldron
Yeah, I don’t get it either, but, at this late in the game, I only saw it as “get here to activate checkpoint”
BL2 has pretty good quests imo early on, but I think they throw a lot at you at late game that it kinda gets these pacing down
Sawtooth cauldron is universally loathed
That's the general consensus of the community

Apparently some Halo Infinite reviews say it would have been better without the open world
I absolutely agree
Espescially the fact you cant even replay missions without starting a new save file
I wish some developers would stop falling for the open world meme
it doesn't suit every game
Oh the campaign is out?
Early reviews are
Also it's on the 8th
so soon enough
the world looks very bleak though
Just doesnt look as mysterious and enticing as CE
This is why BOTW is on the lower half of games I've liked from the last ten years
Aside from the fact that in terms of quality, it was just fine not the magnum opus of nintendo or something
It was so stupidly influential
I know BOTW didn't invent open world games
but what the hell
Most are praising it though it seems
Botw good
like yeah its no where near perfect
but its still a really good game
in my opinion at least
Moistcritikal said the open world is just random marine or spartan encounters which are great but the outposts are repetitive apparently
The main fault of an open world game is the innevitable large amount of filler space
Open ended levels and hub based worlds are better
i think botw definitely was a good game, but not the most revolutionary thing in gaming
Yeah thats what im trying to say
i think what many games don't get what botw DID is that imo, botw drove that feeling of exploration far more than many other triple A games tend to do
especially for a halo game like damn it became the very thing it proved that it doesnt need to be to be good 😭
at least, i loved going around the world bc even though the world was post-apocalypse, it was calm and serene and there was always something to discover
yeah!
while in other games i just often can't be bothered to explore and just want moving from area to area to be over with
(also provided a stable framerate for the switch hardware)
i think the last time i really enjoyed an open world exploration was in the witcher 3
before botw, i mean
THAT TOO
the main reason Im disastified with owning a switch is that the hardware isnt capable to have much much cooler games
The current ones are cool I guess but I wish they would make hardware that has games that can compete with sony exclusive in terms of how big and full of features they can be
instead of releasing a 60 dollar early access golf game
(Also multiplats)
More people would buy their consoles if they had proper multiplats believe me
one thing i like about botw is that people of all ages (from personal experience) can enjoy it
yeah,
Also speaking of game stability if it tries to have more folliage and cool stuff on screen (ahem jungle area) it's yeah
Like damn this is why I want a more powerful nintendo console
true
im always worried that my lite is going to explode when ever i go to korok forest
korok forest more like korohno my frames
(it's terrible i know, couldn't think of anything better lol)
but is it worse than blighttown? 👀
i dont know if its just me but i enjoy open world games the most when theyre on the smaller side, i get overwhelmed if theyre too big
i dont know about the scale of botw, im assuming its pretty big though
same here. botw is large but i never felt pushed to explore when i didn't feel like it tbh
I think open worlds can work fine they just need to be packed with things nicely, otherwise it can feel empty.
yeah!
Botw is large but honestly managable
You're searching for shrines first then koroks
There are like 120+8 shrines or something and 900 koroks
Getting all the shrines means you're done. You already played too much probably
And yeah Koroks is the next level
The actual game is balanced around a rather small area, compared to the whole map
Only area you cant skip big parts of is Hyrule Castle. Not that you would want to. It's fun there tbh.
Botw is more like a compilation of small areas smashed together into a single map
Yeah. It "holds your hand" in some ways
So there's a lot of content where there'd normally be empty space in a more traditional open world
Not in annoying ways
Yeah. Its post-apocalyptic
Most ruins just have a tiny bit of loot and a few monsters
Like 20 rupees
But there's always something that doesn't take that long to do and you can do on your way to a shrine or dungeon or smth
Mountains have better rewards and lots are empty too tbh. So you can really just do whatever you want.
That's probably the best balance about it. There isn't even much you can do that is optimal besides go South West first
Just more shops there
But it's a harsher area with a long entrance quest
I do be complaining about open worlds with nothing in them and tedious instances but I know I'll replay skyrim sometime next year anyways
that game's inescapable istg
Mods
Vanilla is just ugh
I rather just play OpenMW with a combat and sprint patch
"Spriggan midriff got an n'wah acting unwise"
sadly most mods got yeet yeet deleted by the anniversary update
yup that's why skyrim is sitting installed
well I guess I can just try Fallout 4
I got a bundle with those for dirt cjeap
I don't have f4 and I don't think I'd like it either
My skyrim's sitting there with like 100 mods installed that I can't update or everything will implode
hey why am i just finding out rf4 got a steam release https://store.steampowered.com/app/1580240/Rune_Factory_4_Special/

oneshot made me cry 😔 i went in expecting to finally play a game that had been in my backlog for a few years, came out feeling very chicken tendy after 100%ing it
thanks!

i'm having trouble finding if it runs on mac OS 10.15 and later since those only support 64-bit apps
can't seem to find much info on it on the news page, but apparently there's 64-bit support for windows already?
I also like more contained open worlds tbh. I'm really liking Disco Elysium
Even though it keeps crashing on switch
Kinda buggy on switch
Well I can't help you there cause I don't use mac, but the steam page says it runs on Sierra 10.12 minimum if that's of any use to you
sorry
it's alright! sierra 10.12 could still run non 64-bit apps, apple decided to just only support 64-bit from 10.15 (catalina) onwards and i run 10.16 (big sur) which only has 64-bit support too
i'm gonna see if i can find out some more info
so i've got a mac (still on mojave lol) and i have oneshot as well: checked it out and it looks like it does have 64-bit support!
i assume you've already got the latest 64 bit version of Steam, so you should be good...and it's a great game
for some reason not every game i have shows up in the system report. all four of supergiant's games are oddly absent (except a copy of Bastion from the app store which is 32-bit). weird
awesome, thanks! i don't have steam installed since i don't use my macbook for gaming, but since this is the only way to play it I'll give it a shot and install steam!
Yeah but here's the thing for me
I don't have the energy to make it so play along
"Corporate wants you to find the difference between this picture and this picture"
BOTW Open World and blank sheet of paper
"There the same picture"
The world just feels...empty. Theres nothing meaningful
Nothing to do other than weeeee
Personally, Just Cause 3 is my go-to for an open world game
i mean i don't personally see your point
but
i tend to view things (any form pf media) at a higher regard due to fixation and stuff lol
like for example; miitopia doesn't seem that interesting to most people but like to me its the best thing to grace the earth y'know?
I very much disagree on that
But you've got your own valid opinion 🤷♂️
same goes with botw
but yeah i can sorta see your point
like there's one place in botw that i hate and i think its so boring but i hardly ever go there so...
only because it also is the scariest place in the game for me because well
giant horrible robot spiders....
Botw is just comfy tbh
Guardians are tough at first
They have some easy counters though. Very equipment dependent
They're the enemy you beat by having the right tools
With the right shield, the ancient armor set, right weapon or even just a bow, you can just hunt them down
I assume you might be referring to the lost temple area? Yeah that is tough with Guardians
You need to glide around but there's so many broken ones trying to shoot you down
Ancient Arrows will kill them in one shot
I mean, this is slightly obvious, if you have the best equipment, you've got a great advantage
Yeah
Just an important fact about fighting them
They're end game difficulty from the start
Counter them with wooden shield
Perfect parries dont consume durability yeah?
Never got that good
I broke the hyrule shield practicing
I only got that good when I encountered ganon lol
just press the button right 5head it's like 0,0001 frames how are you this slow
I've considered playing again on MM. I didnt find it too hard though even with kinda bad timing
TOTS was mostly combat puzzles
How do you kill these enemies with what you have
My favorite section was probably the other dlc. The very start where you need to clear areas without getting hit, but have a one shot weapon
I just stealthed it with bow.
In general though, I recommend shooting Guardians in the eye
At the very least it will stop the laser charge up
considering that kind of openworldness in the games, like botw, i don't really know what to do with them
there are games with narrative, like "there is a puzzle, solve it".. they may have huge map, or one single corridor, but you have a goal and need to complete it..
in games like Skyrim or other similar, you also have a world that lives on and doing its things, you have places to visit and stuff
then there are sandbox-meccano games, like "here is a bucket of parts and place to dig and build, make something", when you don't always have a goal, rather a bunch of achievements
but still you can go crazy with your creativity
but i don't know what to do with that gimmick, that basically has meaning "we have complicated physics, entertain yourself"
like it was advertised in Crysis, or Just Cause, or here in botw.. surely you can make some contraption from wood, stones and rockets, and yeet yourself into the air in a crazy way, but why
it's fun for an evening, but not for 30+ hours
Nah hyrule field
I keep wanting to go to hyrule castle to get better weapons but im a big baby
man y'all got me remembering how much I love BotW
that first playthrough made me feel like a child again, in terms of awe and wonder
Taking Witcher 3 as an example, I kinda hated open world games just because I just can’t play them anymore. These days, I prefer the more linear approaches, where I know where I’m supposed to go and what I’m supposed to do, rather than just wasting 3h of my life doing nothing that progressed the story nor advanced my levels
White Orchard was ok, it’s the opening area, it’s small and contained and takes little time to explore and complete
Velen and Novigrad are mostly fine, Novigrad was interesting because it was a city, a really big one
Where I really started to not like it is when I’m at Skellige, I hate Skellige, the only thing I like about the place/biome is it’s music. There’s checkpoints in the middle of the sea that doesn’t even have anything to do with anything ever, even the loots are bad
It’s where the world turns from interconnecting towns/houses/farms with something to explore along the way to eachother, into just dots on the maps that didn’t have much to do in between traveling between them
In turn, it’s the same thoughts I’ll have with BotW; when you’re just given a big world and just got told “go explore, go anywhere you want”, you kinda get lost and feel “where am I supposed to go, where does the game wants me to go?”
weapon durability systems in games is garbage, also. i could slightly excuse it in games like fire emblem because i grew up on some of the older titles (and so thus i have some bias and nostalgia) and managing weapons is part of the strategy but i know a lot of new players that came into awakening hated it, which is totally fair. but like. the vast majority of the time weapon durability doesnt add anything to the fun or challenge to a game and is just there to be a hindrance to the player, if i open a game and see weapon durability im immediately going to be annoyed
putting arbitrary restrictions on how often a player may use weapons is lame as hell
You would think Durabilty would have been grandfathered by now
As In only old franchises would use it
you would think! looks directly at botw
It's ironic we take magic durability as a fact of life and Weapon durability as a bad mechanic tho
Like spells only lasts x uses before a needed recharge but weapons breaking being a no-no
because magic being a strain on the spell caster is something i can suspend my belief for more than i take five swings on this sword and it breaks better find another that will also break in five uses (being hyperbolic to be dramatic of course)
idk like very old video games had mana systems with no standard durability, ultimately it is essentially a similar system that's basically always been there but magic is usually emphasized as a more limited thing than just picking up some weapons so thats prob why it doesnt get the same criticisms as weapon durability does
though to be fair limited tome usage in fire emblem was also annoying. cant wait to get my like 5 uses out of fimbulvetr wahoo
anyway durability annoys me specifically so the less games that use it the less i have to complain about 😉
weapon durability is kinda tolerable, if there is a way of repairing weapons
for money, or repkits, or any other way, including magic
what's the point of picking a legendary sword, if it's gonna break for good in several swings, i'd rather use sticks all the game long
Botw weapon durability is terrible no doubt
An essential game system but totally simplified and boring for the most part
Certain stuff takes more or less durability but they could have made something more interesting
Hope botw 2 has something better. even an expanded smithing service/learning to do repairs
They have them for the special weapons
I think literally all you need to do to fix the durability problems in BotW is just
Have weapons that don't break
The guardian weapons breaking is kinda eh
Like, there's zero reasons the big reward weapons from the different areas need to break
Yeah agreed
It makes them less interesting or special too
Like you get a thunder greatsword
Yeah like
Here's your reward, a sword and shield that never breaks, but is less good than stuff that does break
Bam, easy
Hyrule Shield can break
As far as I was aware, anyway
It's just got like 390 durability
Master Sword breaking is super dumb
Yeah
I mean I do abuse it
But thats because I need tools
And all other tools just break in 3 uses
I needed to cut down trees for the town
Like 200 wood. I had to use MS to cut that all
It's tough because I understand the problem they wanted to solve, they want you to try out different types of weapon instead of finding one you like and sticking with it, which I appreciate
But durability also makes it kinda pointless to fight enemies unless you need other stuff
I forget. Are there two handed blocks of any time?
They kinda need that to make those weapons competitive
Fwiw I think the actual weapon classes are pretty well balanced
Barbarian set
Yeah
Shields just make one handed weapons stronger
Especially when the best weapon is one handed
Bow fighting almost feels weaker in botw
I remember it feeling better in like TP
I've never managed to beat a Lynel with a bow
Ends up a bad idea and I return to the easy way
Good for hunting and trash though
Weapon durability just for the sake of realism and/or forced experimentation feels bad because it makes you feel punished for not playing the game the way the devs intended you to
It’s the whole XCOM punishment vs reward argument all over again, just in a slightly different perspective
Instead of punishing players for sticking to one weapon only, they could encourage us to use different weapon by giving us bonuses for using different weapons instead of limiting our uses with it
Like how the weapon triangle works in FE, where you have weapon durability, but it also kinda works in your favor because you already need to use different weapons/characters for different types of enemy units anyway to get those weapon triangle bonuses
i find it hard to believe that botws durability is there to force experimentation
when theres only like 4 weapons in the game
because everything that you hold with 2 hands is an identical reskin of each other
dark souls games have like 30 1 handed swords that all have different timings, animations, unique moves
in botw your spear breaks
and you pick up another spear thats the same in every way except its texture
the real reason I think they did it
is because otherwise weapons would be worthless, so theyd need to make actual permanent rewards for challenges
in other words its the same as an MMO currency sink
but in this case its a reward sink
if your weapon is always breaking, they can get away with rewarding you with little but another copy for doing something like an optional combat encounter or getting to a shrine bonus chest
without that, theyd have to put more resources and time into creating unique rewards
thats the cynical view from a botw 7/10er ✌️ 😔
If anyone is going to vote in the player's voice category for the game awards, please vote for Metroid Dread, goty for it as well.
I don't vote
Botw's durability isn't listed in game other than with the vague sheen over the icon, so the system doesn't actually encourage experimentation, it encourages you to stick to a weapon after you use it until it breaks.
Then choose Metroid Dread for both player's voice and goty if you would please.
lol
No
Hot take of the day; It Takes Two needs more reception in goty though rather than Metroid Dread
Metroid Dread is good, but it isn’t exactly breaking new grounds here, it’s just insanely good for it’s genre/category
Originality doesn't really factor into goty though
it's just about how well the game was received if anything
shouldn't really pay attention to this award
It’s fine. I have my reserved thoughts on it but it’s fine
Regarding the vote results so far though, ||Halo Infinite seems well on it’s way to win the nomination||
I don’t know if I should really spoiler tag that or not so I just did it
really, it comes down to who the judges should be? You have the VGAs which is just a popularity contest by the people, and not really a critical rating; and then you have the Oscars are the exact opposite - a select list of tenured people who are out of touch with the media they're voting on, and at best are snooty critics who look at movies wholly different than the masses.
it's one or the other
yeah this
most original /=/ most good
'xactly
or we could just divide the votes in a 50/50
instead of the 90/10 of tga
ok. so we take popularity vote, and the judges panel votes; then take the weighted average (median?) to find the winner.
followup: whose on the judges panel? keighley himself? CEO of Ubisoft? Todd Howard?
maybe it should just be a triumvirate vote. John Carmack, Miyamoto, and.........Daemon Hatfield from IGN.
not miyamoto, games with a story would never win
this is the judges panel btw
mmmmmm paid shills my favorite
at least the us and uk ones
because the romanian review website is pretty damn good as they never got sponsored for video game reviews
don't worry it's just someone else's tierlist!
game awards always have been just me sort of enjoying a vc fun over the dumb event, since it's pretty much like any E3 sort of event.
E3 is directly about the announcements though
Tga tries to be an awards show and fails catastrophically
yeah exactly
does anyone actually tune in for the awards
beyond laughing at how bad the nominations were
I never took the nominations seriously since I know it's all like subjective in a way that oh this group of people chose this title over another but there is no genuine way of telling why, since I doubt I know most of them.
Though I DO know sometimes people can get emotional over nominees or well over reactive. Which I sort of get but don't feel like the need to be expressed since it's such a silly event like any nomination thing. And not like it means the thing in your media you like is worse.
feelsbad not to see any of the games you expected nominated though
or any of the games you actually played this year
I think best way to look at it is that there are a lot of people on the jury board and they all had to have at least played the games in question for nominations and knowing full well doubt they all could have played all interesting games that year is reason why the nominations end up being the stuff probably everyone heard about in time and got to try out.
Im still kinda salty that I've played none of the games that actually got in xd
except ffxiv and valheim way way back at the start of the year
guess, i've overestimated Undertale a bit
was playing around, tried to see, what'll happen if i'll remove save files during ||Photoshop Flowey fight||
guess what happened, game has broken for good
shame, i was hoping for some more 4th wall breaking
oh right halo infinite launched
pretty cool but the story is just 343 tier story
Worst mistake of this studio was to keep the same enemies in Halo 4
yes prometheans existed but damn can't we get like an entirely different faction
like different aliens and empires and such instead of the same reskinned faction
when jessica alba announced dark souls 2, the universe should have spawned a new Universal Constant Law that wiped future announcements from existence
wut
yes
got rf4, i am not immune to purchasing it a third time
Rf4?
rune factory 4
yeah 😭
its one of my fav 3ds titles, im pleasantly surprised that steam got a port of the upgraded switch version

pick this game up
it's free
go go go it's very good
same 😢
I was going to pick up enemy unknown/within because its cheaper for me to buy the full xcom bundle than the individual games but I was still a bit short lol
idk if I'd even play those again anytime soon though
Wow I’ve always wanted to pick up the roguelite that everyone’s talked about
What is that thing @lusty pendant lol
which iiis?
So spoilers for FE Awakening
In that game, you get child units which are produced by maxing the support of 2 parent units. Each female character has an associated child, and both mother and father will pass down growth modifiers. Severa is the kid of Cordelia, a pegasus knight, and if you marry Cordelia with Gaius (a thief), you get a Severa with busted Spe and Skl modifers. Mine had like 53 Skl at the last chapter with 4 Skl% based skills, so anything that doesn't eat a skill gets critted anyway
God bless the child units in both awakening and fates
broken pieces of crap lol
(I heard the maximally busted Severa comes from Lonqu (myrm) or Vaike (warrior), but Gaius!Sev has a great ginger twin tails which means that's the best version)
Xcom xD
since when is that a roguelite or is there some insider meme I ain't aware of
FoxHope says it's a rougelike so it must be true
(like that's literally the inside meme)
Ah, yeah I didn’t play awakening. Three houses was fun but man it got repetitive at the end
Didya do all the routes?
i did edelgard and savescummed to do both plots, then the yellow guys. never got around to azure moon, was done with it
it was just too easy
and i couldnt be bothered when maddening came out lol
I only reset because of misclicks, didn’t need it like ever
like it wasn’t sweaty knowing permadeath was there like it was in the gba one which is my frame of reference
Pretty sure I only had to actually restart a chapter on 2 ocassions
and on one I just gave up on the side chapter cause I wasn't aboutta deal with that
maybe because im 30 now and was a teenager playing fe7 but it just felt like...so easy
dorothea and petra uwu tho
dorothea my beloved
oh wait i did recklessly throw the death knight at the blond sword lady in the last edelgard level cause i didnt wanna bother playing it smart just wanted to finish the game lol
wiped entire maps for me
oh wait hold on
that was lysithea, the death knight's #1 mortal enemy
do you even dark spikes
literally the best unit in the game lol

now that I think about it, who would be the best unit in all of FE?
maybe it's something like Seth, Marcus or Titania
i wish i could play the older games tbh 😦
i've only been able to play from awakening onwards bc i didn't have the other consoles those games released on and nintendo never bothered to port them or rerelease them
you can fairly easily emulate them, especially when some of them radiant dawn are absurdly expensive
and if you want to play the ones before 7 in english, you'll most certainly have to emulate them, because I don't think it's easy to find carts with the translation patches
nintendo's been pretty tough on emulation websites 😦 i wouldn't mind as much if i didn't have trouble finding reliable ones that don't give me viruses
like...if the console nor the game are available for purchase any longer you can't really call emulation piracy can you
considering nintendo doesn't lose a single cent
well, I have some links to get the roms, but I don't think it's allowed to send them here
understandable jksdfj, is it ok if i'd get back to you later about this in dm?
No problem
I bluetoothed a joycon to my computer and emulated sacred stones that way with the original GBA controls
I threw the death knight at Catherine on the last edelgard level, looked it up
I don’t remember
It was a half finished save file and he just randomly was on my team with no explanation
so I fed him to Catherine and then had shamir finish her old BFF off
it's a mid-release update that popped him on your team if you went with Edelgard
Rhea:
I said what I said
I’ve never seen that before
it's a screenshot from FE4, but as you can imagine, it's not supposed to say "g already?", that's why playtesting exists
IN AMERICA
That monster hunter news has me HYPED
I called that sunbreak would be european monster design to contrast the yokai of rise
and I was right, we got a mf vampire and a werewolf
oh boah here we go
calm voice of Knuckles, missed it since forever
ayy Nier Replicant won the one TGA it got nominated for
Jenshin impact
Lmao Space Marines 2 has been on development hell for years
Also Hot take but American Nightmare is Alan Wake 2
then it's third, i guess
gta6? ah, just saintsrow
oh, Metroid Dread got one for best action-adventure
How did Tales of win?
pogs
@night onyx well they did Sephiroth last year, right? They could do something
true
fair enough
didnt they open last year's show with sephiroth
like that was THE first highlight of the stream
i think i just have a bad memory lol
The sgg + Imagine dragons performance is the only good thing from this year’s tga so far
I liked the Sonic Frontier announcement
and Cuphead DLC
what are you talking about the only good thing Cuphead alone was amazing
ooh Raid Shadow Legends I love Raid Shadow Legends I am not being paid to say this definitely not
me 😭
ads for games?
or just ads
game ads but very uninspired mostly
Ads have been less about games
oh yeah and Suicide Squad that was cool to see
I was thinking that Origins will show up
Origins? what's that again?
2d genesis sonic games for new consoles
ohhhhhhhhhh
Esp. 3K
cuz 3K is only available on pc and then again you need Sonic 3AIR to make it widescreen and better
I'm not a super big Classic Sonic guy but it would be cool to see people play 3K
Frr
imagine dragons ☹️
:(?
we can agree that the little sgg performance was unanimously good, right?
it was very nice though and my only complaint is it wasnt longer
Same
it would've been cool to see a ton of themes from all of their games
i heart supergiant and was like time to go fanboy with other people
since it was an anniversarry
but I won't blame SGG they probably did the best with what they had
my only disappointment is how nier replicant got the award over cyberpunk but we don’t talk about cyberpunk in here cuz i’ll just get the crowd with the torches 🤐
never played either but I've heard more about Cyberpunk
I played it, and it’s my main game for virtual photography
it’s so fun when you take the effort in taking pics
I mean, I don't see a category Cyberpunk deserved to win
Other than maybe soundtrack
Not sure if it did
^
Ah, did Nier win that one?
yes
Well, Nier does have good music
yeah and with games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales the game OOZES style you can't help but take a couple of pictures
then again this year is just overall meh, next year’s all the actual games
I think the game I have the most pictures in is Arkham Knight, though
Tales winning what
ohhhhhhh
yea theres like other games in there that deserve it more
I wish I had an opinion on that but I don't play RPGs
except for like, God of War (2018)
Good first half with small flaws
Completely falls apart in the second
Or last third
Whichever really
I’m still salty over how they don’t let lost judgement in the nominees
Major tonal shift, complete disconnect with the story up to that point, horrible last dungeon and poor final boss
Wait why didn't they?
Idk really
why would they be banned
at least we got p4au and ff7r for pc those were the hypest announcements imo
games that already exist 💀
at least elden ring is soon
it's cool that FFVIIR is coming to PC
but why oh why is it on EGS
the only excuse that I would personally tolerate is if they funded it
do you think Square has an exclusivity contract with EGS?
I mean, I don't know if that's the case because the Pixel Remasters were on Steam
at this point I have no idea why or what
yeah
stupid Neil...
(I'm joking, I partly like Last of Us Part 2)
(and I know saying that will rustle a few feathers but hey I dunno)
Oh I have zero problem with who won last year int hat its not the games fault
yeah it's not
Kind of tragic and funny that the orchestra played Theme of Super Metroid. Dread soundtrack, y u no have melodies
like how people reacted to the devs and actors last year was utterly disgusting
yeah I wholly don't condone harassment on anybody
