but i guess ken levine didn't think so
or rather - his fans didn't think so
and they wanted to see more of the same
cool - great
i'm not against that
but on the other hand - i like being in the sky
And that’s awesome
so who's had more of it?
on one hand we've had bio1, bio2 and it's DLCs and DLCs for infinite that were underwater
so that's 4 things
columbia tho?
it had one game, one story
and it was still relying on rapture to even exist
The actual game setting might be part too
That whole very very American whatsthattimeperiodcalledagain?
I don’t remember
my point is
Might be cuz I’m working on 3h sleep
and i somewhat eluded to this yesterday
show some spine
if you wanna pander to fans - great, do that
some of my fave games do that
if you want to do new and unique things then that's even better - more power to you
but those two things rarely mix together
and if you do mix them together you'll end up making a disjointed, confused mess of a story that doesn't do any good for any side of the conflict
there was no elizabeth in bioshock 1
there was no tears or alternate universes or time travel or any of that nonsense there
Alternate universe
until infinite came along and made a bunch of crap on the spot
i replayed bioshock 1 last year and i couldn't take anything that's there seriously because it's a mess at this point
i hate retcons like that
You play in a different version of rapture where infinite never existed or will exist or has ever touched it
and this is what those DLCs always were - a big pile of retcons made only for fanservice
oh yeah sure
shame that bioshock 1 never mentions it
we literally came to the same conclusion yesterday when talking about genres
it's all right... we're all right... nothing and no one is wrong
that's bullcrap
as much as i like those games, we have to recognize and point to their flaws
no game is perfect and we cannot ignore that
The we in that sentence, does it include me?
everyone
Did I have a whole conversation yesterday that I don’t remember?
i'm talking generally this whole channel
there was a lot of people talking about genres and other things there
ok
sorry, I was awake far too long yesterday/today & only had a 3h nap so my brain gets a bit confused at times
ye, I get it
even Hades can't be perfect or so many wouldn't constantly be asking for dlc or complain about ||epilogue||
I know of a constantly appearing sitch in a game series I love - Rune Factory - where everyone in the circles where it's discussed tend to love the games, but there's always 1 massive complaint
and with the new RF game coming up it's become a Hot Topic again
so why would let infinite's DLCs slide because they're underwater?
and what's that complaint?
"Why can't I marry all the bachelors/bachelorettes regardless of the gender I choose when I play?"
cuz it's a game like stardew valley & harvest moon, but if you play as a female you can only date/marry the guys & vice versa.
you can however genderbend later on in a new game+ to swap genders, but you'll still be referred to as original gender cuz it's just a "skin"
heh - funny thing
now that i think about it - the same story crap that happened in infinite's DLC happened in eternal's DLC
and people hated it too
what a coincidence
and with the new game coming up people are starting to say "if you can't marry everyone/anyone then I won't buy it/play it"
and the most common "excuse" is that it's a japanese game & it's not actually legal in Japan yet so don't expect it to appear in the games
so the games are very close to being perfect
but they're not
rf 4 female with the bachelors
slow down shadow
bot's getting angy
rf 4 male with the bachelorettes
I do adore that game though
but it's annoying to have to remember the gender I want to play as after I've not played for a while
you can unlock extra story after you marry a character
so it's common to marry them all at some point
That gif is making me anxious 😁 it always tricks my brain in that is going to last longer and then it cuts
lol
watch the opening to the game
that's where it's from if I don't remember wrong
it's very anime
well this is the Opening of the new Game
and when i finally get the Game i will make Videos too ^^
this Game is for Nintendo 3DS
Rune Factory is the kind of franchise you think died years ago but it just chugs along without a care for the world
it did die
the company went bankrupt or so
but then it got revived
with new company
RF is a spinoff of Harvest Moon
the first RF was just "Rune Factory - a Fantasy Harvest Moon"
I only played stardew valley because I wanted moar Rune Factory & it was the closest I could find to it

wolfenstein the new order
i'm still surprised with how well written this game is
there's actually a lot of similarities between TNO and the first AND ONLY two max payne games
max payne 3 doesn't exist
in that regard...
yeah i guess - the combat is pretty solid
and i'm not against the change in tone and the enviroment
it's the bioshock situation all over again
we've had two games set in the same city, time to explore new places
go for it
but i refuse to believe the character i played MP3 is... actually max payne
he's an alcoholic joe schmoe
it's like Dan Houser... ||
you again!|| didn't grasp what made this character interesting
i mean - i don't mind him drinking a lot
there's been some references to him enjoying some
in previous games
so seeing him going down that hill after everything that happened in 1 and 2 makes sense
I mean for the whole game his diet consist of Jack Daniels and painkillers
it's just...
where's his sarcasm? where's the snark? where's his weirdly positive attitude towards everything despite everything that's going on?
prob some hair he ate when he shaved it but you get my point
none of what made him a compelling character in 1 and 2 is back in 3
nothing, not a single trait
monologues and swear words are not a substitute for character development
max payne 3s writing utterly stinks of that patented rockstar / modern GTA nihilism
which isn't surprising since they share the same writer
the whole story goes in circles
hinges on multiple absurd premises (the whole "you're the fall guy" and "oh yeah there's this dude we never mentioned before that's the key player now") and so on
and in the end... it arrives at basically the same conclusion max payne 2 did
so... what's the point?
you can literally skip this whole chapter and lose nothing
seriously tho @woven breach - play TNO
it fills the void in my heart left by MP3 perfectly
such a great game
what's TNO?
wolfenstein: the new order
the one i mentioned like... 5 minutes ago

too good
i still find it hard to believe how they turned this most nothing character that was blazko in older games into one of the most well rounded FPS protags ever
while still paying homage to all the older games - including the ones from EARLY EIGHTIES ||yup - this series is that old|| in some really subtle ways
my memory is a bit hazy
ngl
might need to replay it
hehe
I'm just finding reasons to replay old games
well there you have it
but I do remember what happened in new colossus
fun fact
wanna talk about similarities between the first max payne and TNO?
you never played max payne?
I just jumped to MP3 cause I had nothing to do
like, the visuals can be pretty
can i ask why?
Older game design can coincide with modern gamers expectations
even though I've tried
you gotta learn to play the jankyness
i mean - i get what you mean
it's part of the charm
QoL touches, modern trends, etc
it's not really about the jank
if anything i'd argue that there's a lot of older games that control better than their modern counterparts
Just like the Diablo fandom
skyrim is gonna be 10 years old this year
but in terms of older games...
they tend to be more focused on doing only a handful of things
as in - you're not gonna get profiles with constant drip feed of unlocks and pointless skins and rewards
tacked on crafting
Division between players who are born before the millennium and after the millennium
light stealth because that's what everyone's doing
max payne 1 is a third person shooter and that's what you're gonna be doing 90% of the time
skyrim taught me an important lesson that I've used in subnautica
simple as that - it does one thing and it does it very well instead of spreading itself thin across multiple popular genres
does that make sense?
if you can jump you can probably climb a mountain
this also worked underwater
Well, it depends on what you expect from a game. Trends become, well, trending, because people caught on to it
We don’t like it but apparently it what moves on Google
yeah and that's a thing i don't really like
as in - there's way too many games that are too similar to each other
just look at sony and their recent output
third person action games with light stealth (bonus points for sneaking in tall grass) and crafting
so, on today in subnautica
Prawn suits can climb by hugging the wall when they run out of jet power by idk standing still on nothing so long as it's on the side of the cave & waiting for the jet to power up again.
You'll never trap my Maddie! Never
you get all 50 shades of the same idea in their games from the last like... 6 years
At this point, whenever I think of Sony, only Spiderman comes into mind
like... get this
when i say "a third person action game with light stealth and crafting made by sony in the last 5 years" - what's the first game that comes to mind?
idk any games by sony
it's a fairly specific description - it shouldn't be casting a wide net here
yeah exactly @steady otter
I knows movie
and that's my point
but no game
I wish I’ve played Subnautica, but not yet. These are the games that I see a lot of people play, idk if I’m going to like but there is a slight interest, but of course not a priority in the wishlist
play it
it's janky in all the right ways
and it's got the perfect blend of survival & horror & fun & relaxing
horizon fits this description (both of them), the last of us fits that description (both of them), ghost of tsushima fits this description, uncharted 4 fits this description and so on
and that's just last gen sony - i'm skipping way too many games here
unless you have thalassophobia or trypophobia
Metal Gear Solid? Never played it so I’m just gonna bet
wait
most of the time, anyway
uncharted doesn't have crafting, though honestly that game sticks out way better than ghost of uneaten sashimis
kek
they don't really mean the same in my mind
especially when my brain is at this stage of tired
New word of the day, trypophobia
playstation is playstation & sony is sony in my mind
yeah uncharted doesn't have crafting
but know what i'm talking about, right @woven breach ?
yes
like one does games & the other movies
I very much understand
that's one of my complaints with Spoopy Tales of Island on Sashimi
everything that is good in that game is the coat of paint
anyway - my point is
go check out max payne 1 - it's one of the best action games ever made, though it might be showing it's age for younger audience
just get your expectations in check before you go in - it's a core third person shooter, there's no tall grass stealth, no cover system, no crafting, no open world, no collectibles (kinda) and so on
it's just you, piles of painkillers, lots of loud guns and a handfull of trippy dream sequence
Every single game from that list still does have a different focus from eachother, or at least 3 that I’ve known (don’t know anything about HZD, I live under a rock). Having features like crafting is meh in a game when it’s shoehorned in, but at this point, I don’t think developers can afford to have less “content”
it's a game made by a relatively small studio, they didn't have time, money and manpower to do a lot of things so it focused on doing one thing, and doing it really well
HZD has fun story
and this is the sort of laser focus i love seeing in games
and I love the blend of tribal communities with robot dinosaurs & animals
don't focus on cramming as much bullcrap in your game because other popular games have it
direct that focus on doing one thing you do best
this might be the only recurring trait of all my fave games - as varied as they are
SGG games, COF, soma, dusk, mirror's edge, re4, split second, doom and so on
all laser focused on doing their own, specific thing you won't find anywhere else
Mirror’s Edge, now that’s a game that’s worth a talk. It’s a really cool runner sim (idk) that got bloated in the later entries
parkour
HOLY GUACAMOLE
what is quacamole

you'd have to scroll up like 500 messages back to get to that yesterday's convo to get what i'm making fun of here @steady otter
no thank you
I always felt like it’s unfortunate that they tried to innovate and try to break into new grounds for the second game but really ends up just bloating the gameplay
did they try to innovate with the second game?
i beg to differ
proper mirror's edge 2 was in the works years before catalyst but EA didn't give dice a green light for it
Tried to incorporate aspects other than just running to justify a second entry into the series
years after most of the core staff left dice, catalyst started development
and it didn't innovate squat
those things you mentioned there were only there because of current popular trends
Huh? Oh. What was the proper ME2 then?
open world, collectibles, constant EXP, utterly pointless skill trees and so on
it was supposed to be a sequel to mirror's edge
it was in early stages of prototyping when the whole thing just fizzle out
we don't know much about it besides one old video someone dug out on an old (currently dead) forum with a test map where they were testing some new properties
like improved fall damage or better animation blending and so on
also - mirror's edge gets my personal award for the most pointless reboot ever
did you know that mirror's edge: catalyst was first announced as... mirror's edge?
so we'd have mirror's edge and then... mirror's edge?
"it's an reimagining"
yeah - reimagine this middle finger
Well, how do we actually improve a runner sim?
the outrage was so loud that they slapped a subtitle there and called it a day
The first game was great, but it was also just… a runner sim
by actually making it about running and not about crappy forced hand to hand combat?
by making it about running and not using batman gadgets for the game to do the hard jumps for us?
just throwing it out there
@fathom juniper we don't make reeee jokes here
The game might as well end up not making a sequel at all tbh
really? why not?
did something happen?
Prob cause they're pretty hard to reeeeeed
Yeah, that’s the thing, they tried to incorporate other aspects into the game and it just ends up bloating the whole thing up
exactly
look up old reviews for mirror's edge 1
running, platforming and all that was the good stuff
people were complaining about combat sections
which - sure - while shooting was discouraged and hand to hand combat was... alright at best
they were rarely forced
besides the bossfight there's one section where you HAD TO fight
But we can’t justify making people pay full on $60 on the same game with the same content though, I feel like people will also still complain if ME2 was made the same as ME
and instead of fixing that...
here comes catalyst with overdesigned combat that looks like a slapstic comedy
and then it forces you to use it multiple times
way to miss the point there, dice
well activision does that every year and it seems to be doing fine
im joking, of course
i'm not talking about reusing content
just look at how angry people were about saints row 4
i'm talking about improving aspects that need improving
fixing what needs fixing, and not fixing what ain't broke
Ikr? People are fine by some games being like that, and then not fine about other games being like that lol
here's another gripe i have about catalyst
did you know that the story we got in OG mirror's edge is like...
1/6th of a bigger planned overarching plot?
yup - initially it was written as a trilogy, and then shortly before the release they scrapped around 50% of it and stiched the rest together
for some reason
so instead of expanding that...
we got another fresh start for an even worse, more predictable and condescending story in catalyst
way to miss the point, dice
again
@fathom juniper im trying to dm (dw you are not in trouble) but it won't let me, could you add me as a friend?
done
Thinking about this, in modern day game dev, this is a post-launch content update, not a worthy sequel. Not saying that sequels should always be bombastic, but it’s another trend that we see today with games not being released as perfect as the dev wanted it to be
yeah...
keep in mind that OG mirror's edge is...
13 years old at this point...
holy moly i feel old...
and besides - what i was joking there with that
way to miss the point stuff is that...
i could literally go through every single aspect of catalyst and point out how it misses the point of the original vision
Well, I was just thinking about how they would not be able to make a good sequel to the game no matter how they tried
from world design (where's the texture? why is it made up sci fi land?), gameplay (love the fact that the combat tree has twice as many skills as running tree... in a game about running), base controls (you have to unlock an ability to turn around...), story (it's not about politics of this world, fight against censorship and corruption, nah - it's a predictable pointless family drama now that's way on the nose), writing (where's the subtle undertones and hints?), forced combat, down to character design itself
seriously - i'm a big fan of the OG mirror's edge and i've spent a lot of time dissecting it and seeing what makes it tick
and after playing it like a 100 times in a span of over 10 years i can tell you... catalyst misses the point of entirely
it may look like a mirror's edge game (though even that is arguable - look my previous post), it may sound like a mirror's edge game (Solar Fields is literally the only major player coming back for this game and he made a soundtrack that just as good - if not better in places - as the OG
)
but it's just a generic modern game template wearing a different skin
i'm not saying that you can't enjoy catalyst - you can
when the game lets you to just... zone out and
- it feels great
animations are even faster and more fluid than they were in the first one and that springboard mechanic is a great addition
i'm saying that...
with so many things things that are intentionally different by design... i don't think this game should've been called "mirror's edge"
that facade (along with a vaguely similar but still inferior art style) is there only for brand recognition and i feel like this game would've been remembered more fondly if it was called something completely different
as this sort of "spiritual successor" sort of thing
anyway - i hope you get what i mean
thanks for coming to my ted talk
nice
be the next BDG
bdg?
a bit
well well well
oh yeah i remember seeing a headline some time ago saying that the PS5 is the best selling console evaaaaah! ™️
it's weird considering that i only know literally one person IRL that has this... best selling console ever ™️
maybe it's super popular...
somewhere else
in scalperslad, i suppose
I don't have any CC, I can borrow my bro's but I'm sure as hell he won't let me pay him back
I'll find a way
i mean
i already bought one game for someone here
the honk guy
(where is he anyway?
)
let me check my bank account
how can ps5 be the best selling console when no one can get ahold of it
oh wait, nvm
it's not on gog
lmao
yeah exactly
scalpers
right now here those who got in a 2nd preorder or smth can't expect to recieve their ps5 until after dec 31st
so next year
did they buy consoles? yes... basically all of them
are they using them? no
does it matter? also no
doesn't matter if they bought it when they won't even have the console at home either!
i have this... weird tin foil hat theory that sony doesn't want to fix the ps5 shortage because this current situation benefits in more ways than one
I mean, are there any games besides demon souls that would justify buying a ps5 even?
I didn't really keep up with sony releases
also hi :3

idk
my brother wants one
and I want him to get one
because when he gets one I get his old ps4
for free
hehe
- Earlier this month NPD said that the PS5 was the fastest selling console in US history through its first five months of availability * - The Verge
yup
you can thank scalpers for that
stonks
an unit sold is an unit sold
doesn't matter if it's actually being used or not
I'd like to one day play HFW on it, but the game isn't even out yet so

besides I haven't even been able to finish HZD
need to do more babysitting
this is why i feel like sony might not want to fix this problem
they basically have it in the bag - most of the PS5 are guaranteed to sell right away - no matter if it's for scalpers or normal clients
my brother refuses outright to buy it at any price higher then the in store prices
good decision
and people who are willing to spend twice as much to get it from a scalper might be more willing to spend more cash on other sony stuff like their services
ps+ or whatever
to get the most of their expensive console
That’s actually bad because these consoles are selling below cost
he knows he can get it from others, he just doesn't care
and I respect that
besides, I can play on his ps4 whenever I visit
good
Consoles are always about after-sale service
sure
Consoles not being played is lost profit
Thing is how does Sony going to fix this
again - i don't feel like they would want to fix it
this might not be the problem for them
i don't trust any corporations like that to be any pro-consumer than they have to
this still doesn't stop me from thinking that sony might still benefit from this in one way or another
either by creating this aura of exclusivity around ps5 or really doubling down on FOMO or neutering this super dedicated fan base that is guaranteed to spend more on their other stuff
how can they even fix it
what can sony do to fix material shortages
go to countries & help gather resources like game characters?
dunno
dun care
That’s another problem we have right now, material shortages
yeah
Scalpers could actually not be a problem if it weren’t for material shortages
😮
but then again...
i'm the type of person that a crappy 200 dollars second hand laptop has more gaming value than a new 600 dollars console
i was at a bar last week and they had tons of ps5 just to play fifa i was very salty
with a way, way, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY bigger game library spanning literally decades
among other things like indies and mods
sure, but I like console gaming

my favorite is handhelds
I like being able to play on the go
switch was perfection
what handhelds are out there except for the switch
Recently I’m been getting up to speed on the handheld PC gaming like the GPD and Ayaa Neo
none
and then I stopped docking it after the first 5 times or so
old ones!
Those devices look fun, if not expensive
DS still has a great library
the whole handheld library of nintendo + psp/vita
old ones yea
I still play on my GBA
are you kidding - I'm never gonna stop playing those old cartridges
well - yeah - i wasn't thinking about older handhelds
I've played final fantasy tactics advance so much
but switch is the only handheld that's still supported
I'd play on my GB if I could remember where I put it
weeeeeelllll
||mobile phones are also good for some games||
technically vita was getting games
I said technically
don't kill it until it's dead
it was a solid handheld - a really impressive piece of tech
Too convoluted with quick cash grabs, much more than the Switch is now
and then sony screwed the pooch really hard
ye, I like my psp more then my vita
with vita, i mean
but my psp is flaking and that's sad
Just get google stadia and play on your smart phone lul
can still play birth by sleep with no issue tho
I’d always like to think that mobile is the future of gaming, but apparently it’s just not going to happen any atm
i thought that around 2009 when i experienced this deluge of great ports from DS and new games
back when microtransactions weren't a thing on mobile
Mobile is perfect, it has the ecosystem, it has a great userbase, you just need exposure
i was actually excited to see where mobiles could go
you have to always keep your screen uncracked
and it's harder to do with phone then w handheld
I don't like playing mobile phone, Idk.
Too bad, mobile gaming got too convoluted before it even got off the ground
discuss
but then...
it all quickly devolved into this disgusting, putrid pile of greed and scams aimed at uneducated users with deep pockets
it feels wrong using my hands like that
yup
about the only games I enjoy on phone are point&click mystery games, some rhythm games & mindless adhd time consumers
botw 2 🥺
Most mobile games now are very much gacha games, searching for whales who they can make money of etc.
yeah
like little alchemy & ring jump
and i don't think like that's gonna change anytime soon
splatoon 3, botw 2, sinnoh remakes gameplay, a smash reveal
I like those
metroid prime 4 someone?
doubt
same 😦
thats in development hell
yeah, unfortunate
theyre still hiring boss creators
Yeah, pretty much
more legends?
they got a date now after all
honestly, I'd say don't hype yourself up too much
theres gonna be some third party bs no one cares about
didn't go well the last few directs
I'm not hyped at all
For sure, im so ready to be dissapointed
I didn't even know there was gonna be a direct today until now
ye same xD
but I think the direct earlier this year was cool
but I loved the last directs
I think they are always fine
maybe it's cuz I don't have any hopes or expectations going in
there are just a lot of toxic fans unfortunatly
2019 E3 was stacked as hell
that's hardware not software tho
they're still gonna talk about it
just ports
I’d settle for NSO for GBA
Bring ranger back

The real retro games that I want to play are GBA games
not GB?
I still stand by Nintendo being one of the most fun companies to speculate about
maybe thats because Smash exists
I'd love to get ducktales
GB is fine
OH WAIT
But my nostalgia is more for GBA though
but it was so cool playing scrooge & having the theme song as bgm
my childhood was all GB & then GBA
I played on my brothers old GB first & then I got a purple GBC with a carry case that was bright yellow & purple w pikachu for it
well, carry bag
I played Pokemon Blue & then Gold & Tetris & paperboy & ducktales & this german game that was about a blue bear sea captain
I MISS MY CHILDHOOD

oh and I had TMNT
I was bad at TMNT
I'm still bad at TMNT
You mean "Käpt'n Blaubär?"
YES
I lost that game years ago and I’m so sad cuz it was so fun

Same w paperboy - no idea where it is anymore
A friend of mine had it, I don't remember playing it tho
It’s a fun puzzle game
I didn’t understand much since I didn’t know German, but I LOVED IT
Shapir-Edition? What country is this from?
Also it’s so bad that I can just look at these games & hear the bgm playing in my head
Saphir*
Germany
It doesn’t say Sapphire edition?
It’s German
Ohh
It’s says sapphire in German
I learned that whole gen in the wrong language
Still love the game
Still play it to this day
In German
I understand it a bit better now too
How many versions of the game is there for EU? Is Saphir only for German?
English Pokemon-Names are still so difficult to me, it's crazy
I understand you
I know how it feels after that game
I had Mudkip only mudkip wasn’t mudkip he was Hydropi

me starting Hades in chinese because my mom wanted to see it be like
what are these ENGLISH boon names I do not comprehend

haha
I had a couple german games growing up cuz we went on frequent trips to germany & games were cheaper
Where did you live then
and there's 5 or 6?
Norway
oh cool
there's German Saphir/Rubin, Italian Zaffiro/Rubino, Portugese Safira/Rubi, Spanish Zafiro/Rubí, French Saphir/Rubis & the english UK versions?
or american?
idk, there's an english edition at least
That is a lot, ngl
Trying to gauge interest in each of those versions is going to be something
well, there's a lot of countries & langauges in Europe..
so it's a matter of y'know
I don’t think the games have language selection back then
Yeah, and you have to know how much you need to manufacture and all that
usually that's be france, belgium, switzerland
there was also a french canadian edition
for canada
prolly some more eu countries but I know for sure those speak french
Today it’s a lot easier because nowadays we have CDs and higher storage for game CDs
Well, I’m not saying it’s bad, but game localization is definitely not easy
and since the games are mainly for kids it's nice for them to be able to understand
speaking of pokemon there
Voice acting has always been a challenge for big game releases
I know everyone plays them, but the gameplay is still mainly kids
good thing pokemon didn't have any then
only the pokemon sounds
and they weren't really very human sounding
Yeah, it probably was not that hard then for older games
va isnt rly an issue as long as theres subtitles I think
exactly
depends on the subtitle language ofc
my nephew still can't read english & is just starting to read norwegian so he still needs some help with some of the game stuff when he plays botw & age of calamity
VA gets less impactful if people instead had to rely on subtitles
hmmm I play with subs a lot
yeah movies are the same
not everyone knows english/chinese/korean/norwegian/french/insert-language-here
and so they use subs
So, it’s a toss up of getting good VA for the language you’re trying to localize into, or just getting subtitles in and some things gets lost in translation
unless you live in germany bc they dub everything here
lol
you thought normal twilight was cringe - try german twilight
tip: don't
that's how it is when we chat here too though
not all of us are native english speakers
good translations usually make it for it by using different proverbs and references ect
so ofc things get lost in translation when we chat
there's jokes I want to make that I can't because they literally make no sense unless they're in norwegian
That’s why I said it’s not easy to do localization
no one said it was easy
but it also doesn't mean that things are less impactful
some things don't need words
And I’m not complaining though, just trying to appreciate the work done into it
fun fact: because germany does dub everything, every movie gets dubbed over in a studio, whereas in the (often english) original release, the sound comes from what is spoken on the set itself. That is why many germans consider the original version to be inferior in sound quality
Your conversation kinda reminds me to this Tvtropes Page

I'm contractually obligated to tell you I'm not responsible for any lost days spend on a TVtropes binge
Watch at your own peril
To be fair, I like dubs when a) it syncs with the lips, and b) the meaning of things, emotions and everything in between doesn’t get lost in translation
they usually do a good job for movies, videogames I've seen a lot of bad dubs tho
more like heard
you say this like I haven't already spent months on TVtropes before
Dubs also have the problem that they make look like there are only 20 VA in the industry
Meaning of language is easier to do, but for lip syncs, devs usually have to simulate lip movements from the get go when the game cutscene is first made, so that it goes well into any localization they wish to make in the future
And that is crazy
Here we have a new brand AAA game. Starring:
- Troy Baker as the tough guy protagonist with a Darker Past
- Laura Bailey as the foul mouthed coprotagonist which a quip for every ocassion
- Steve Blum as the Big guy
- D.C Douglas as the megalomaniacal bad guy
- Yuri Lowenthal as your favourite sidecharacter you can't remember the name
- Erica Lindbeck as your quirky tag along
Also guest Starring Matt Mercer as Himself (We actually didn't hire him, he just appeared on the set and voiced a few lines in exchange of a coffee)
is this just the critical roll cast?
Dunno, don't watch it
You should
But also it's not, that was just a bad joke xd
I really don't have the time to watch Podcasts lmao
I heard of the Matt Mercer Syndrome, tho
didn't podcasts start as something to listen to
🤔
deep
But yeah my point is that sometimes I feel that hearing the same VAs over and over again makes me lose my suspension of disbelief
Cause I hear the actors not the characters
I've grown out of that ages ago
had to
every cartoon/animated movie/series dubbed ever has the exact same VAs here
it's like that joke at the end of Cars
all the roles be the same guy
you just learn to ignore it
"Don't get me wrong, I love the voice acting in this game. But occasionally we have Chris Metzen congratulating Chris Metzen for slaying Chris Metzen."
— Anpnymous about WoW
I don't know, maybe I am just spoiled, because Germany, as already said, has a pretty good localisation-industry, but I also don't find it to be that big a problem.
Also because a lot of my favourite games don't even have VA I think
like Mushu is Timon & Mike from Monsters inc
grunt
Or the good ol' "Bepehebehehpe"
Damn I just realised these sounds are almost indescribable
Now imagine having to write subtitles for this
it would be fun
especially because you can just come up with the wildest things
who is gonna dispute you
you literally just invented the word describing that sound
like "Bepehebehehpe"
Bephehebehephe
I have literally no idea what that is or how to pronounce it
I don't think that's important tho
[Indesrcriptible otherwordly noises]
that would be subtitles for either a Cthulhu game
or animal crossing
add Nolan North as Random Guard no. 3 and you've got my vision of hell
it's got pointless crafting, it's got brain dead basic stealth, it's got crammed in skill trees, and it's open world for no reason with a bunch of busywork sprinkled on top
bonus points for being set in a postapocaliptic version of modern world where everything is overgrown

it's...
Game: The game: Remastered
preorder now for 69.99 to get your own exclusive The Game can of redbull to not fall asleep

The Game 4: The Gamer
what have we done

this might be the next SGG game 🤔
now that's a game I'd game
The Game spinoff - The Game Game Simulator
but I really suck at RTS' :(
I don't like rts
If It's from SGG I'll probably like it no matter what genre lol
at this point game doesn't sound like a word anymore
they can make "Mario's missing" and it would be amazing
okay I'm gonna go back and take a nap
please be a horror game
don't game too hard, gamers
I'd love for them to do a novel game cuz they do real pretty art & good storytelling

that would be interesting

sweet summer child

It's a new day somewhere in the world

learn to code
cure the world in plague inc with the cure mode
works well if you don't like yourself
that's gotta count as a good
cuz it's way more fun to kill the world
you could eat an ice cream cuz that tastes good so it automatically counts as a good
uuuuuuuuuuuughhh

folks, i need some help
what's your go-to videogame soundtrack that gets you pumped?
the unseen ones
ye unseen ones is good
something energetic and loud that gives you energy to work
i mean an entire soundtrack
a whole thing
i need a pretty long playlist to get through this mess
i haven't thought of that
i always listen to terrarias' music:
Original Terraria 1.4 (Journey's End) soundtrack in the highest quality possible. Enjoy! :)
Video timestamps:
00:00:00 - "Space Day"
00:01:23 - "Ocean Night"
00:02:55 - "Windy Day"
00:04:16 - "Town Day"
00:06:22 - "Town Night"
00:08:19 - "Slime Rain"
00:09:42 - "Terraria Theme (Xenon & DSniper Remix)"
00:13:07 - "Journey's End"
00:14:31 - "Alte...
terraria's slow and comfy soundtrack is going to make me go
I'm far more likely to put on just non-video game music
ye true
i need a musical equivalent of slap in the face and two redbulls in my stomach

I would save the world
i dont listen to other soundtracks from games
HELLMARCH BABY
Babymetal - Road of Resistance
it's not games, but it's epic
Babymetal in general is fun
you can listen to doom eternals' ost
Things that are hype?
~~i just use pmd's monster house theme for that but that works best with terror of that theme built up over years
i hear the first two notes and i am UP~~
I dont really listen to any osts that are completely energetic at all times
Persona has some good ones
i'd second doom, probably, that might work
my problem is that really energetic music makes me sleepy
Music: Lockstep
Composer: Masami Yone
Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?p=PLDE6D019045312411
Platform: Nintendo DS
persona 5 OST is amazing. But it's more funk / Jazz
there's gotta be some new Crypted Chaos or Beneath The Altar or Super gore nest that i don't know of
some game with a banging OST i've never heard
somewhere out there just waiting for me to discover it
played it to death
that's why im asking
Borderlands 2 and Tales from the Borderlands have some sick soundtracks
i'm looking for some new stuff
oh
scourge bringer slaps
Hard
maybe you'll find something in there
np
was first result for youtube search "great game metal ost"
figured maybe someone else had been looking for the same thing as you once upon a time
also

gotta take this OST for a whirl first
enjoy
i mean
it's not gonna make what i'm working on any more enjoyable but
it might get me through it
this and some coffee
I love the world of warhammer - the lore & such, but I've never played any of the games
I just love reading about it
warhammer 40k \0/
blood for the blood god
skulls for the skull throne

i never really got into the warhammer universe
even though it might look like my thing
i love the aesthetic of it
there's just... so much of it
where do i even start?
where do i go?
what do i do?
idk why I love it cuz I'm not into war
or guns
or fighting
or genocide or xenophobia or anything like that
but
I love the chaos
with Ciaphas Cain book series
so much fun
I mean kraja
"Warhammer Fantasy is basically a grey-and-black dark fantasy setting. Warhammer 40,000 is a black-and-black-hole dark science fantasy setting."

Warhammer is a medieval fantasy world with magic.
Warhammer 40k (40k refers to the year) is a gothic sci fi world with stuff like Space Marines, Imperial Guards, Green Skins (Orcs), Eldars, Tyrannid, etc.
it's a wonderful place
Are the Humans space Orcs?
no
shame
humans are space marines
missed opportunity
and humans are veeeery xenophobic
The only thing I know is that there is the super god King of humanity or smth?
but hey, we got the God Emperor of Mankind
A lot of people do
maybe I just need the chaos & destruction sometimes - and like I said, I don't even play the games
I just enjoy the lore
I might get into it more as well
if only because a friend of mine has a bazillion minis
which still need coloring
read Ciaphas Cain
That's why people usually refers to the former as Warhammer Fantasy
I am reading a song of ice and fire rn, but I might pick it up after I'm done :3
yes
just got a 50€ gift card
👍
Funnily enough I'm just finished with Total War Warhammer II
ooh
Now I'm gonna wait for III
I own a couple warhammer games, I just can't play them
Yeah got burned out
what should i buy: moonlighter or dead cells? 🙂
maybe I should just watch let's plays of them
I am (once again) gonna go and prepare some food now. Have a great day / night / whatever everyone 😄
I've always wanted to use this song for something. And Paradox gave me the chance!
Always happy to plug one of my favorite genres of music, filk. Soundtrack is "Xenophobia" By Bill Sutton, which I found on this channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0WQOGVLLGw&list=PL2036F1BA9A5428FD&index=41
Bill Sutton's website, where you can find and p...
baai
Already won with Tyrion, Malekith, the dreadfleet and MARKUS WULFHART

It kills me the Endless Space 2 shot in the middle
WOOT

Not saying you should do this. But if I was you, I would buy one of them, try it for an hour, and refund if I don't like it.
Let's learn about our neighbors like the Christians learned in Rome
Oof
Endless Space also gave us one of the most hilarious factions in any 4x setting
yeah?
The Horatio. A guy so narcissistic that he went to space, found an abandoned planet with cloning technology and from there created a planet of beauty where everybody is Horatio
And he plans to spread his beauty for all the world
Cause not being horatio is afate worse than death to him
lol that's good
TBF he was born deformed so his narcissism was a way to cope with the laughs
have you ever been so narcissistic you developed a purifier hive mind colony
They even made a Dating simulator where you are an Horatio seducing other Horatios
Plunge forehead-first into the exhilarating world of Horatio, the Endless galaxy’s most perfect being. Experience life as a freshly-decanted Horatio clone on his first day of cadet school. Will you be the obedient servant of the great forehead in the sky? Will you manage to woo one of four uniquely identical Horatio clones? Or will you skirt the...
I honestly love the rogue servitor idea
an ai becoming sentient and decided to "paternalized" its master race
Yeah, there is even an alternate Earth preset empire
I love Endless takes on factions and empires
Yeah It's quite assymetrical

no, screw that guy
No other game allows you to aggressively occupy a solar system by simply being very diplomatic
With the Lumeris you can outright BUY the galaxy
I just love that endless legends and space have these aggressively friendly factions, that can force a friend treaty that you can't refuse.
Oh yeah and can't forget the trading factions of these games
"Why make colony ships, when you can just buy the solar system with money."
"blank the rules, I've got money!"
The Hyperion vs The Bucephalus
That's literally the Lumeris Playstyle Shadow
so they are all YGO abridged Seto Kaibas then
also can't forget the "I am war faction" in these series, which unlike some other 4x games are really just war faction since you CAN'T side with them or make a diplomacy deal, just extend the time before they attack
That and the fact the Cravers deplete the resources of their own planets making them eventually to barely produce FIDS forcing them to aggressively expand or have their civilization to collapse in itself
Same with the Necrophages in Legends which their farming techniques aare so hopelessly innefficient they need to be at war to consume enemies to create Food
or Vodyani who have like giant church ships which they drive around the galaxy
Guys, i have got the torment of choice. If you had 50€, what game would you buy?
I will keep it to buy Diablo 2 Resurrected later this year
I already said it before but Celestian Tales is dirt cheap and I loved it
Also wait for sale
God, I just remembered DD2 is something that is yet to exist and get sad
Summer sale should be some time in June
yeah there is some info on DD2 already
or well screenshots and such
it will be like ROR2 sort of
was in PC Gamer article
so here is the link which shows the pages
I love how the comments speculate on possible Death Blow resist status on enemies lol
I dislike that new "normal sized" head
It looks too comical
Everything else is sick
yeah I am not used to the characters look for now, as in they changed style quite a bit, but I am sure I will get used to it.
And yeah this stuff rocks by the look of it!
It looks to me that it's gonna be XCOM strategy map with the skull counter acting as the Avatar project countdown.
Combat will still be positional 4 on 4.
A bit more character customization in term of gear.
But I want my big head back, it looks normal to me. The new heads are small as heck.

this is the moment when i'd rather play video games instead of making them
doing spritework in photoshop is just

does anyone here know any good tutorials for spritework?
or making textures or whatever
Darkest Dungeon is a roguelite
Or is it
no it's not

Or. Is. It
No. It's. not.

Me again: did someone play "Slay the Spire"?
Yes it's very good
I cam whole heartedly recommend StS
If you like card games, you would love this one.
Still salty on how the mobile one doesn’t have cross save
So, it’s me unlocking everything all over again
oh that does remind me
Minecraft is a roguelite
Griftlands is out of Early Access!
Griftlands is a roguelite
