I forget, like vs lite mostly comes down to incremental progression, right?
I just call everything roguelite nowadays
Yea it’s a difference of restart file or restart run
Iirc
Square and rectangle.
Yea lol
Game design is cool :3
Hence why I love games and just how they’re made and why I want to go into the industry
There’s a lot of flexibility and interpretation as well as solid application
And genre is one of those
also I’ve discovered that my game design knowledge is mostly from shower thoughts, games I’ve played, and only a bit of the class I’ve been taking lol
||sgg please hire me once I’m out of school it’d be sick lol||
SGG becomes a AAA studio and hire everyone
Then we make F2P mobile games
Let's go. The future is bright.
Pog I’m in
Could be worse, could be utilizing decades-old, storied franchises people are clamoring for new entries to only as fodder for pachinko machines
But what kind of monster company would do that, right
Yearly Hades.
Yearly Pyre 2k
Bastion remake.
Never on sale Transistor.
When I was young, there were just three game genres: walkie, shootie and puzzle..
First included point and click quests, top-down rpgs and stuff
We should come back to that
Second - 2d platformers and 3d shooters
Wow you’re old huh
Third - everything else from solitaire to tetris and 3inarow
Hey shut up you 2k-er
Wait 2k00 kids are 21 now
What the heck
No, no he's got a point
Children smh.
In the year 200X...
No I need to buy it actually
It's free.
Friends keep yelling at me and I want to speedrun it
I remember buying Minecraft when it was like 10 bucks before they added survival
Bedrock edition comes with windows though
Last time I played mc was Xbox360 days
Well you see bedrock sucks
Indeed
It has "some" advantages, that can be easily modded into Java version
If somebody will care enough
Um
Does this mean I have to buy it again?
I know two
java, bedrock, pocket (?), education (?)
and many different versions for each
MC is MC. Why would they change MC?
don't remember
Yea a lot has changed lol
Like major nether and end update, I think caves and cliffs happened or is happening soon
We got lamas
And uuuhhh
Bamboo forests
And lots of other biomes
Caves happening soon
We got nether update tho
And the ocean one
And the one w foxes & such
I really need to review my 1.2.5 mods from the pirated times, to be able to play old map with my friend again
ok i still have it.
Like back in 2012
It's really really nice they allowed to roll back to previous versions
We had to install the mod for foxes back then.. And horses.. And others
Now its creator works for mojang
So does terraria
Terraria has.. Lots of wiki pages
So does Minecraft
Matter of taste
If you have Minecraft, try out the new updates cuz if you’ve been away a while it can feel like a new game
Then you can always try out terraria
Same with Terraria
Mhmm
Like, each update almost doubles the content
There was the bee & honey Minecraft update too
I'd say MC and terraria are actually pretty different. MC is more about creativity and freedom, where Terraria has a lot of more clear-cut progression and an end goal IMO
both are really great tho
Shame that Starbound didn't make it
ye
I personally just don’t like terraria bcuz of the style
I’m not a big fan of sideways
Understandable. I think it fits the more combat-focused gameplay, but as with every game, it is a matter of taste :p
now that's a name I haven't heard in a while
It had so much potential
And huge modding possibilities
Probably, worldgen was not good enough
It's still closer to old terraria versions
Also lots of lore retcons, with story updates
idk. I followed the development back before the first playable version was even out, and played it a bit when the open beta (I think?) was available, but it just faded into obscurity for me
only ever played the 1.0 version for like, 30 minutes
same experience, i played the early beta bc i bought keys for me and my friends for it, but by the time the game fully released there was just something about it i couldn't quite put my finger on that i didn't really enjoy much, and i never played post 1.0 for more than a few hours
in regards to minecraft/terraria i would also say that combat is more something terraria focuses on than minecraft. at least we are finally past the point of everyone referring to terraria as 2d minecraft lmao because frankly both games are striving to achieve different things. while you can do some pretty sick builds in terraria, it focuses more heavily on progression and combat. i feel like the combat really has to be pointed out, specifically bosses, because the bosses are honestly the focal point of the vanilla game and a good portion of modded content. the most popular content mods often have some pretty wild boss fights
Ye exactly. It just lacked a certain amount of polish, which made the game feel kinda clunky in my opinion. Everything felt a bit to slow, to imprecise, too confusing etc.
Might be better now of course. it's just what I remember
exploration in starbound somehow felt less rewarding in launch than it did in earlier builds, or that was my experience anyway
can someone recommend me a fun and rewarding action rpg?
honestly that might sell it for me.
i don't like to wander aimlessly. having a given goal to accomplish is better for me.
also is gamepad terraria a good experience?
Dark souls, if you have a certain amount of patience, is one of the best games ever made in my opinion
Have you heard of Geralt of Rivia? Unironically my favourite action RPG.
I've never used gamepad but it's been ported on consoles and people seem to manage it fine
Does Yakuza count as an action RPG
ultimately you could say terraria is about some random nobody waking up one day and deciding they're gonna kill god for the hell of it lol there's no story to it or anything so there's no reason you fight bosses other than just because but some of the endgame ones are out there
On which platform is it foxhope?
I like Skyrim & HZD
the witcher 3 is available on most, if not all consoles / platforms. I don't know about the other two games, but three is the best one anyway
It's the Witcher 3 on basically everything.
which reminds me that I still have to play the DLC :p
Ah k.
dark souls is on pc
Blood and Wine is just so good and beautiful.
skyrim is on almost anything
hzd is on pc
skyrim is on so many platforms it's a joke by now
Skyrim is available on your nearest Samsung smart fridge, courtesy of your lord Todd.
Why are there so many games nowadays
because it's a booming industry
How long until you can judge a person by their Steam library?
what's yours look like?
Like how you can judge a person by whether or not they read the books on their shelves
Do you play all of these games you own?
Or are you just a POSER?
people judge others based on that?
Fake gamer
Well, looks like I am a fake 😦
It's kind of a joke, but yeah, people do that.
what if it's inherited books
I have 300+ games in my steam library
You don't read cookbooks like a novel?
you find a recipe & make it
What a poser
you don't?
I read 1 cookbook
anyone ever just read a dictionary?
I read one whole dictionary
cuz it was a kids cookbook with actual fairy tales & stories in it
eyy
that's not a lot of games
this is also gonna spark some controversy lol
I haven't finished any of my games
friend of mine gifted me aragami a few years back and i have yet to get to it
the currently installed ones are
stardew valley - not gonna finish cuz it gets so boring after a while
Hades - and I play it on switch so it might get finished if I can sync up everything at some point
plague inc - ye, mega brutal is just what it sounds like
binding of isaac - so many secrets & I mostly play on switch & there's no cross saves
I got it two days ago. It gives me motion sickness and there are many hidden power ups which seems needed for the journey (but hidden). I'll probably wiki it to get everything. Otherwise, it's ok.
Don't Starve Together?
for games I used to have installed I can't even finish them because Catalina means I can't even play them anymore
Steam has thousands of games from many different genres and catering to many different people. Stardew valley is itself also available on steam. So yes, there are many games like that. Are you looking for anything specific?
huh. oh Catalina as in the OS.
mhmm
Just buy a PC 4head.
no moneys
rob a bank
sad
and I have a pc but that one is slower then the mac
it makes isaac lag
Isaac
without any upgrades
woof..
rob a bank
I played the original flash isaac back in the day
that was also the most my computer could handle back then
Also i still have to play repentance way more
I got so many games I'll never play
I feel like I was Stockholm Syndrome into liking Isaac.
I wanna plaaaay
I only got to play a little on potato pc
@worldly cobalt i would love to play a acton rpg - but with nice (cute, for the lack of a better word) graphics.
I need it to get on switch
not some brutal stuff like dark souls

I'm so sad you want on steam cuz I know a perfect game but it's on 3ds/switch
Rune Factory 4/special
if you liked stardew valley you'd prolly love RF4
do you care about perspective at all?
2D side scrolling? FPP? Isometric?
Hmm good question
i prefer isometric (like hades?)
i had much fun in the mines in stardew valley
moonlighter looks great
I never played Moonlighter, but I think that'd be a great fit from what I've heard
what is R F 4?
Rune Factory 4, but it's only 3ds/switch
ah ok
if you liked stardew valley
i have a 3ds 🙂
you'd prolly love it
bcuz it's like
it's cuter graphics, with farming, dating, interactions, story, monster taming & dungeon crawling
where you can do whatever you want in a day
you can ignore the farming & just go fight monsters if you want
or ignore the monsters for ages & just farm & talk with people in the game
i have fire emblem awakening. did you play this?
you can even ignore everything and not play the game
I also never played them, but maybe some games of the "Tales of..." Series? Like Tales of Berseria etc... but I don't know how much they'd fit
ok bye i have to go, thx for the suggestions. i think i will look into Moonlighter. 🙂
Have a good Day / night / whatever 😄
I have moonlighter & I've never opened it
It's great, I just haven gotten around to playing it a lot yet
it's just sitting there on my switch
Repentance is good. And I'm not even touching the alt floors yet.

Though the game has significantly more burrowing enemies now.
Which is a bad thing imo. No one like those things spawning right on top of you.
ye true. But Isaac always had a lot of annoying stuff. Some got removed in repentance, some got added
wait what's Repentance
It's the newest DLC for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
when did it come out?
April I think?
oh nice
(noun) the action of repenting; sincere regret or remorse.
Isaac wasn't really my thing tbh but I hope you guys enjoy it more than I do
and you too BIG SUR!!
March 31st, to be exact
I'm sorry for you 😢
ah, yes, thank you
PCMR?
Mario died and Isaac Repented, what a day
still on mojave for this very reason
can you not use Wine or something?
no
cuz CATALINA
some things no longer work
like the whole of Adobe CS6
Catalina ruined everything
Damn shadow I said hi and everything earlier 😔
oh, hi
Hi :3
hello
hi
Ey Griftland just came out of EA
wait wrong person
Anyone played it?

im leaving
not me
bai
bye bye :3
Shadow I wish I could help you but I've literally never used MAC for anything xd
I've had it since summer 2014 when my pc died & I inherited my moms old mac air
I see
there might be some way to setup a virtual machine on MAC
but I wouldn't know how
yeah
probably by a way not approved by appol
no I mean
I accidentally deleted it
and I didn't notice until AFTER I'd emptied the paper basket
so
it was gone
ouch

quick google search shows that there might be a way to set up a boot assistant, so that you can select between OS on startup
but as I said, I am most definitly not proficient with Mac's so I don't know if that would apply to your Mac air
don't think so no, cuz my mac is very old & can't play a lot of games in general
big sad
once you install OS you can't go back
it's a very convoluted process
well then, I will just continue enjoying Repentance then muahahaha
well, I just needed something when going away to school - it was a live-in school on the other side of the country
and the next year I went to a graphics design class so mac was just fine then
same the year after that
I didn't play many games on it cuz I had my handhelds + xbox
as sad and malevolently that may sound, but the most popular instruction of how to play on Mac looks like this:
step 1: get a gaming device

I thought it went something like
Step 1: Don't
sounds about right
Step 2: get a pc
Step 3: if step 2 can't be achieved, get a gaming device
actually, i kinda can feel that pain, cuz for a while had to use pretty old and weak linux laptop
oh no
so weak, that linux was the only thing that it could decently handle
but it could run terraria with 20+ fps, so it was okay
I remember my Pentium D desktop with 512MB of RAM, and a whooping 12GB Hard Drive
Now I have more RAM than that Hard Drive lmao
I remember when my father bought a new GPU so we could play roller coaster tycoon 3
and somehow, that was enough
now 500Gb is not enough for at least 10 games
(looks at ps4)
It depends. There are some (mainly indie) games that are surprisingly small. I recently downloaded Deep rock Galactic, and it's like, 2 GB
i still remember my first second hand pc i had
some sort of old pentium with 333mhz and 10 gigs hard drive that shot sparks at me every now and then cause i somehow lost the side panels for that old beige case
it needed like 10 minutes to get going
but hey - at least it ran OpFor
OpFor?
I miss my old games
i had those old ps/2 ports
I remember being so angry one day I kicked the middle white part open.
I'm so sad I can't play my old pc games anymore
Old PC games, go
who said you can't play your old pc games?
well, they literally can't run on newer windows
and I have a mac
they are all cd rom
there's gog, compatibility modes, fan made patches, sourceports or hell - you could even set up a VM
these are not those kind of games..
or just dosbox them
you could even get an old PC, they shouldn't cost much
there's always a way
Red Alert 2
Warcraft 3
Cossacks European Wars
Virtual Cop
Road Rash
Unreal Tournament
Alien Shooter
Insaniquarium
Pet Racer
has anyone else played a game called frozen fruits when they were young?
I remember modding the heck out of Red Alert 2
dosbox is a neat tool, it can emulate the speed of calculations, to make up for fast modern processors
that was my jam
it's a surprise to me how I managed to get through games despite not being able to read, let alone English.
ye same
I learned english in kindergarten
I played chrono trigger when I was like, 10.
I understood nothing
and I had 1 fully english game
by the time I was in school I had basic understanding
i could play PC games first when i visited my uncle, he was an engineer and had a PC. first among other relatives
Payuta was one of my fave games as a kid
there was no windows, but he had several games, i think, there was some tetris-like things, Sokoban, Supaplex
I played Chrono Trigger when I was like, 24.
I understood everything.
Almost like I finished it two days ago xD
another was Kiyeko
actually
xD
for some people, me including, games was the easiest way to learn english
I learned mostly through English YouTube, I'd say
school course was not bad, but it has given way less than games
I watched a lot of AVGN back in the day
yep. I learned a lot of English through games. my ma always got on my back for playing vidya though.
I learned english via kindergarten, but remembered it via travel abroad
gaming YT was a way for colloquial english, though
and by reading books & maybe playing some games I guess
ma, you need to understand, to git gud in vidya you need english to google and read guides.
but I didn't really read the text for most games as a kid
practical application, right there.
I just skipped over that
my mom used to read the texts for me, when i was playing old NES games
when I was playing games I wanted to play - I didn't need to read
my mom left me alone with games
god i wish that was me
I got no help from either parent cuz they didn't understand games & were too busy
bruh
I have a huge family, so we mostly played Mario party / kart etc. Not a lot to read there
my mom also was always busy, but she used free time to spend with me, sometimes even playing
by the time I was 6 I knew just what to do to boot up the pc, insert the game I wanted to play, pick the language I wanted & then play it
and the gameboy was always easy to play
just put in game & start up
good for you. monopoly was too much for my family to handle.
My parents never told me how to install games on pc, so I'd always wait for one of them so they could ignore the license agreements and click "next" for me
same
my family is 2 accountant parents & a brother thats 13/14 years older
Monopoly is really ding dang long
yeah
I have a lot of siblings, older and younger, so we'd always find a way to entertain ourselves
I figured it out eventually by just watching them do it
and a good way to sow the seeds of discord among the family
well
the first two PC games my uncle ever let me play were...
the first resident evil and the first diablo
i was 6 at the time
I am not a smart person
and he was supposed to be the responsible one back then
wow, Resident Evil?
I used to watch my brother play military games
resident evil?
all tactical & shooting & stuff
that's the lesser of two evils
your Uncle is a terrible Uncle
/j
you guys don't remember diablo 1 ?
it was ok so long as I didn't speak
I was dead scare of horror games or games with gore in them.
Warcraft 2 Orc campaign was a nightmare for me lmao
well - diablo 1 to this day has some of the nastiest, disgusting and downright cruel stuff in it
like - the stuff that i don't even want to describe here unless i want to get banned
I was.. 1 y/o when diablo came out
ah fond memories of coming home from grade school and sitting on warcraft 2 after homework
it wasn't in the gameplay, mind you
it was all just details on the levels
i almost got suspended from school once bc of warcraft actually
seriously - look it up
diablo 1 has sprites of completely mutilated, headless naked corpses just... splattered against some of the nastiest medieval torture devices known to man
and that's just the background details
man - my childhood was awesome
jk
worth?
perfect game for a 6 yr old
hell yeah
I always have the urge to play old childhood games
then quit 15 mins in because I can't stand the control anymore
and from that point on i went on to explore classic FPSs
shareware doom, HL1 and opfor, later serious sam TFE an TSE and so on
I do still enjoy a lot of the Snes era games. Super Metroid, Mario World, Link to the past etc.
i think you can get a $20 old used computer from ebay
i guess this is why i like horror games so much nowadays and why barely any of them even phase me
and use that instead
my parents got called in bc they confiscated a note i wrote a friend that had a traced orc drawing. it was recess roleplay stuff. the principal thought it was gang recruitment. we were like literal 9 year olds
lmao
the principal thought it was gang recruitment.
of course, the logical conclusion.
those damn kids
y'all didn't join the orcs?
this child is clearly in a gang
kids and gangs, name a more iconic duo
I remember just straight-up walking home one day during recess because I wanted to play Mario kart for GC. Unfortunately, one of my brothers caught me.
when pokemon red came out like a year later one night i was doodling the charizard off the cover of the guide book i had and my dad joked about not writing more notes to friends
humans are space orcs tho
how?
deep
omg you don't know
nope
there, now you can go see
not wrong channel, but not related to video games
put in general
(Ye I know, I wrong channeld the "wrong channel". I even wrong servered the "wrong channel". already deleted though xD)

I've gotta go now and get some food though. You all have a wonderful day you beautiful people 😄
come again
I will 🙂
u too
i'ma make some food and listen to whatever humans are space orcs thing

that reminds me, untill some age i was sure that orcs are supposed to have boar snouts
like in Heroes of M&M~~'S~~ II
or warcraft orcs, that were stolen from WH, which were stolen from Tolkien, which were stolen from european fairytales
orcs predate space exploration. fact.
hehehheh
man...

now i got super nostalgic and i'm listening to this

blizzard doesn't have the spine anymore to even get anywhere close this heavy style d1 and d2 had
"Orc is derived from the Latin Orcus which was another word for the Roman-Greek god Pluto / Hades who ruled over the underworld and the dead, and can be compared in the biblical sense to demons and the like."
Hades
is an Orc
the OG Orc

i mean - he's got the right attitude already
and the body type
just paint him shrek green and boom
warcraft 3 orc
yo i really wanna replay this game again
with the HD mod
which might just be one of the best mods this whole series has ever seen
like - if anyone here wants to give diablo 1 a shot - go for the HD mod
not only it adds support for modern resolutions without changing any assets (which is super important in this case), it also adds quality of life imprevements like better UI controls, mouse wheel support for zooming in and out, personal loot chests from diablo 2 and - this is the best thing - it brings back cut content and greatly expands on the whole experience
is there the cow level?
that butcher cutscene before his bossfight that was cut for being too violent? yup - it's here
along with a whole level dedicated just to his bossfight (instead of one square room)
andariel from d2? yup - she was supposed to be in d1 before being cut - she's back
there's a bunch of new sidequests and even a whole new zone never seen before in the vanilla game
funneh
there's one in diablo 2 ||where it belongs||
I always found the orcs in Warcraft funny
Those one in wow have a screwed up spine
don't worry
their tencent overlords have them stored somewhere in their golden vault
@remote marsh https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gex_(video_game)
Gex is a platform game developed by Crystal Dynamics. It was originally released for the 3DO in 1995; ports of the game for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn were later developed by Beam Software, and a PC version was licensed by Microsoft and released for Microsoft Windows. It was a pack-in game for Panasonic models of the 3DO later in the consol...
nice
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1180660/Tell_Me_Why/
free to keep as long as you claim it during this month :D
3 chapters for free.
yeah the good ol confusing "1 chapter is always free" for LiS stuff and stuff alike.
confusing?
i mean...
that's literally how the shareware model worked in the nineties and earlier
you get 1/3rd of the game for free and then just pay up for the rest
eh - whatever
it's still a nice gesture to offer this one episode for free
especially for a relatively new game like this one
FF7 Remake is a good game
well - there you go
here's another example of a 1/3rd of a game...
...sold for $60
seriously tho - how did square enix get away with this with little to no criticism is beyond me
So I guess this game is a deal shorter than LiS. Right?
If it is then I'll binge it in the weekend
considering dontnod's previous games i'd say this free episode is around...
3 hours, give or take
the entire game is for free right now
all three episodes
the banner art just promotes the free first episode because thats what is usually free
but the description on the steam store page says that chapter 1 is free
ey?
what's going on here?
because that is what is usually for free, but now the entire game (all three episodes) are on giveaway. you just need to press "add to account" to get them all
oh yeah i see that now
it's on the community hub
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1180660/view/2997688104043123612
still - they could update their store page to reflect that
Its still a 40 hour game
the original ff7 was 3 discs, sure you got them all at once but still
they "got away with it" because the game they released is good
I need to wait 30 mins for food to be ready
ugh
can i play vidya to forget about how hungry i am
ya watch your damn language lyte
well they somehow managed to do it as far back as 1997
things change I guess
I didnt consider it like they were robbing anyone of their time and money
the product was released and it was good
it doesnt need to be the whole thing yet, they gotta do an open world experience now
so where does the story in remake end?
too much stuff and the game wont come out for a decade
Right before the party leaves Midgar
so...
it's not the full story yet
and yet they sold this game for full price
imagine if capcom did the same with the resitent evil 2 remake and shipped only the police station for 60$
and then made us wait... god knows how long for the next two major zones
But what if they made the police station with a crazy amount of depth?
and 40 hours of content?
while we're not even sure if we're be able to play the rest of the game on the same console we bought the first 1/3rd for
same deal
1 - there is actually more depth to that police station when compared to the OG game (which i still like btw)
2 - there is actually more content that takes longer to complete when compared to the OG
I mean what's the difference between a videogame and a book?
I didn't buy Game of thrones expecting to get the full plot of the series on it.
FFVIIR has a third part arc based on a smaller arc of it's original
nah - square enix totally got away with it and it's not the first instance of their anti-consumer tactics
well there's a difference
because in this case...
this plot already exists
the full game it's based on already exists
so
a novel doesn't cost $60+ and then ask you to pay another $30 for the whole experience.
exactly
you didn't buy dvds or so when they came out
because the novel already existed in full
and then probably wants you to buy a new console
ps5 is already here, ps4 is getting older by the day
they split it in 2 because it was too much for 1 movie
and i doubt that people who bought this first part of the remake will be able to play p2 and 3 on that aging console
better pay up for that ps5!
I dream a dream
A dream that one day everything will be cross platforms and exclusives are a thing of the past
okay lets be real though, if you were an ff7 fan you were absolutely getting a ps5 anyway

that doesnt make a difference
hell no
not if im too poor for consoles
Eventually
I dream a dream that one day you can play anything regardless of how old it's supposed to be
you can just put it in & it'll run
Exclusives are going always to exist
The idea that FF7R isn't a full game is wild to me
I dream a dream that this comment is wrong.
^
Exclusives give us a reason to buy products and competition, which in turn fuels better products
If everything was cross-platform the quality would be the one adapted to the worse console
it makes it obnoxious on our end but we get sick games when companies want our attention
I'd like a reason to buy a console that actually involves the merits of the console
is it bad that I like exclusives becuase I enjoy having multiple consoles as too much stuff in one place overwhelmes me & makes me not wanna use it ever again
too many choices in one place
how about - and hear me out here...
how about buying a product...
for the quality of said product?
instead on vapid promises of games that may or may not come out in the next decade?
of which quality we can't even be sure of
stresses me out >.<
i know it's a wild idea
this
again - why would i buy a ps5 based on promises that some cool exclusives might come out in god knows how long?
it stings, though
I really want to play some PS exclusives but I own no PS consoles
exactly
agree to disagree I guess
why not buy it because of games that are already out on it?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
what games?
Anyhow there are projects to bring the games to pc
you don't have to buy based on "might be"
oh yeah - the games that are mostly cross platform and ONE REMAKE of a 12 years old game?
yeah sure
Like days gone
but hey - TLOU3 might be cool
might
if it comes out
how would I know?!?
I'm not interested in the ps5 cuz it's sold out everywhere
uh, what?
WC3 was such a great game, and then it got demaked
what's the remake gotta do with anything
it was just a comment on consoles in general
they can also compete in other forms, such as function, especially functions.
example: switch is "switchy." no one buys a PS5 for the go. no one buys a switch expecting 4k or 1080p 60 fps.
there are room for market differentiation that does not involve exclusives.
it's a sony exclusive
and this whole convo started with us talking about remakes
scroll up
yeah that
also people used to buy ps3 for the bluray player
but ill concede that platform exclusives is just a very easy way to achieve market differentiation.
exactly - this is what i said earlier
and company like easy
that's what you said???
no I meant like, why does it being a remake change anything
I thought that DS was on the better side of remakes
remakes are fun
because the only difference this remake has is it's looks
it tells the same story and the gameplay was ported so faithfully (even including the bugs) that...
well - presentation is the only thing that changed there
true
on the subject of the story though if it ain't broke
the gameplay I got nothing for
I don't want remake, i want remastered. old games with modern features and especially controls
that's it
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
slap on HD texture, better control, save state, same gameplay.
pretty much remakes are that
no
isn't remake are that but more, more like a re-imagined rather than re-doing
"remake" as in - a game remade from scratch
I loved the RF4 special switch remake cuz it added some quality of life additions & a newlywed mode~
it was still basically the exact same game, but now it was easier to do events & such
eh, true
a remaster is just a tiny coat of fresh paint - mostly coming from a new hardware it's running on
i mean the definition is also armophous. sometime company make a remastered and call it a remake
I think that remakes have their place, though
most people wouldn't have played RE2 if not for the remake because T A N K C O N T R O L S
or just make it even more confusing by calling it "reforge"
yeah...
looking at you wc3
OH YEAH here we go
gimme that "tank controls bad"
haven't heard that in a long time
I've heard that WC3R isn't even good
oh let me state
I don't think they're bad
I played RE1MAKE and I had a grand ol' time
but gamers today don't have those tastes
yeah
it's ... fine. just overpromised and scummy TOS tactics. the gameplay itself is still wc3, hard to screw that up.
people raged about the missing cutscenes and the TOS regarding wc3r
otherwise, wc3 is wc3
Is Nier 1.22 supposed to be a Remaster or Remake? People say remaster but the graphics, music, VA is all new so I dunno why they call it remaster
and now every version of WC3 is reforged
oh hey @polar dragon - please remind me
can i still buy warcraft 3?
the classic one
i don't see it on blizzards page
or steam
or gog
nope
Fun fact Square Enix LOST the original Source Code for Kingdom Hearts so what was supposed to be a Remaster had to become a remake for necessity as they rebuilt the game from scratch
see?
and some people still wonder why i hate blizzard
this is one of the scummiest things i've seen in this industry - and that's telling something

and reforge is the same price classics was before
am i the only one here that wouldn't trust those corporations with anything even if my life depended on it?
so technically you get more but at the same time, you need to agree to the scummy tos
why do we all buy in to their 💩 so easily
and why is it so easily accepted
I just want them to set Taro loose again
the answer is pirate
See him going mad
well yeah but if i don't want to agree to those TOS then pirating is the only thing that's left
I mean not everyone does
look at everyone on the subject of M3DAS
oh i have my doubts after seeing what was going on in this channel today @scenic wigeon
?
I uh...
hooooo
can't necessarily comment on most of the qualities of the games you were all talking about
I was pretty much speaking only from word-of-mouth
?
but I can assure you some people do criticize more than you say
also i put too much broth in my chicken stew and it's taking forever to reduce
kills me
aw man
I also find quite funny how Nomura for some reason decided to canonize one of most obscure spinoffs of Final Fantasy on the remake
yeah i know...
sorry for that
what spinoff
nah, you're fine
yeah I hear you sometimes
idk man, i'm living the dream with retro and indie gaming
please dont evade the swear filter!
I'm stuck over here on the flaming Nintendo brigade looking on other, sturdier ships wishing to jump off
easier than ever to play old games. indie games are everywhere with excellent quality
I'll always have those
hey remember when square enix put deus ex on hold while pumping piles of cash into making an anime spinoff and a feature length movie of ff15?
you know - the mediocre one?
or how they almost put IOI on ice with that episodic hitman crap?
also, I like to appreciate the fact that gaming APU will soon become more competitive and compelling. which makes gaming even more accesible.
at the risk of sounding highbrow, it's a good time to be an "educated" player. know what you like, know what the industry is like, know what hardware to buy, and you will have a blast.
AAA games be damned, a couple of years down the road, sales make them indie price anyhow
it's always a good time to be "educated"
don't buy into the hype, be responsible with your spending
don't buy into new consoles based on some vapid promises
wait a bit, enjoy some older games in the meantime
and let the passage of time filter out crap games from ones that are actually worth your time and money
and then buy them for the fraction of the price
what about when games don't go on sale
when they don't really get cheaper over time
name me a game that never went on sale in - let's say - 3 years
but instead get phased out of stores & get more expensive online
because suddenly you have to import from other country & pay import taxes!
when games go on sale in our stores it's maybe 2$ off
Aren't almost all games digital now?
There are barely any pure physical game left
I need more physical games cuz I don't have space on the memory anymore
yeah i was about to say that
but i get you @steady otter - some games get scrubbed from digital stores every now and then
well that's a sony problem
Option 1: Don't buy Nintendo
Option 2: Buy used
Option 3: 🏴☠️
Option 4: Pray that they port that game to other platforms.
which leads me back to my older point - don't trust those corporation
it's not just nintendo
but speaking of nintendo
and old games
when they can make your hardware borderline useless at a whim
that I now want
one of them you can basically only get physical now & bcuz it's old you can really only find copies of it for 100$+ online
so sad
Which one?
Rip
🏴☠️ ?
and some other RF games
⛵
that ship sailed some time ago
haha

lets gooooo
seeing pokemon just makes me wanna get the games sooner tho
I want the cutesy remakes/masters
and I want the new legends game
i hope those games are good
early birthday present & late christmas present
I'll love the diamond & pearl ones anyways cuz I love cute stuff & really the only thing that would be better would be platinum
ok but
consider
a new pmd would be really, really, good
ok, but
consider
I get bored of pmd so quickly
I wanna play them to the end, but it's just so boring after a while
I have time x2 (cuz I thought I had darkness oop) & darkness + the remake/master on switch
I get bored after playing 2-3h
weird bc that's how i am with mainseries
like it's just 'ok kill another 40 of the 3 pokemon on this route then fight the gym leader then rinse and repeat'
Explorers of Sky HD
you don't kill
unless it's nuzlocke
you knock them out
and I've been playing main series since I was 2-3 y/o
so I love collecting them
I don't care too much about the badges or fighting or anything - I just wanna collect all the mons
cuz they cute
no
boring
already done that
when did they do that?
RANGERS
explorers of sky is sick :(
the original, it came out
a while ago
where you use the joy con as a capture rod
You mean Rescue Team DX?
no
This I can get behind
i mean i already played sky, i don't wanna play it again
i want new lore and gen 7 mons
gen 8
like, i'd take it but i wouldn't be devastated if we didn't get them
also i've been trying to sort out the lore for the pmd series and all of the data painstakingly collected basically boils down to 'huge nonsensical mess'
and, idk, more stuff could really help sort out a timeline theory
but most importantly
i just wanna go through dungeons as an incineroar
pmd is a roguelite
Not this again 😔(I agree tho)
Mystery Dungeon[a] is a series of roguelike video games. Most were developed by Chunsoft (later Spike Chunsoft), and select games were developed by other companies with Chunsoft's permission.
The series has inspired other entries in Japan and has moderate popularity, mostly from crossover entries with the Torneko's Great Adventure series in Japan, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series worldwide, and lesser with the Chocobo games based on the creatures from the Final Fantasy series.
Mystery Dungeon is basically Japanese version of Rogue.
This makes Pokemon Mystery Dungeon more rogue-like than Hades or Isaac.
technically
technically
Just wanted to say, that I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn (6 hours in) and I'm loving it! The gameplay, the story, how it plays, all of it 🙂
im really feeling this game https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E2vf-hjVkAMuE7N?format=jpg&name=large
Is that the Rice one?
yeah

after burning out from farming in harvest moon, didnt think i'd enjoy a farming game again. but Sakuna sure is fun lol
Finally was able to get Pokemon explorers of sky because I loved darkness so much, hope to see what new content was added to it
yayyy
people talk about how CoD has large file size, but XCOM2 released in 2016 has almost 70GB
and XCOM from 2012 has almost 18GB
Charon's partner pokemon is Kecleon
||Steal from them and perish||
I accidentally stole from Kecleon ( I thought he was gifting them to me) and I got smacked in the face with 1000 points of damage
Learn my lesson
granted xcom 2 has much higher quality and much more assets
my game size is huge though because of mods lol
long war of the chosen is 2GB
LWOTC adds content by having missions more often and raising the difficulty, right? If it adds modified enemies rather than fully new content it makes sense it wouldn't take much space
I mean given most mods are in the MB range, 2GB are still a lot.
Aha. Didn't know that
Does that mean that the 60 GB size you gave is XCOM 2 without expansions?
Nowadays it feels like WOTC is a must have, so X2's size would be effectively >60GB
WOTC is such a massive improvement to an already very very good game
X2 + WoTC + all the other DLC totals to around 75 gb in my experience
(I don't know if steam is counting mods)
That 75GB figure seems right to me.
do the things
What things
WOTC taking <15 GB while X2 takes 60 is...uh, ayyy?
WOTC is impeccable and makes up for the Alien Queens one being hot trash
We can only imagine what it would have been like with a 4th Chosen and that other resistance faction
FFXV is 155GB if you want 4K
That's quite the fork
The year is 21XX, Minecraft is now available in 16K with Ray Tracing, Ultra Realistic Water, Quantum Accurate Physics and 2TB package size minus mods.
all the things
does it make the game any better?
Anyone who has played the entire Bioshock game; do I really have to play both the prior Bioshock games before playing Infinite? Or I can just skip?
I’m halfway through Bioshock 1 now but I really want to play Infinite and simp for Elizabeth
you can just skip bio1 if you want
Really though, I really wanted to try looking into and analyzing Elizabeth
there is some stuff in infinite that references bio 1
but at this point - i'd say you know enough
you can skip if you want to play bioshock infinite base story, but for its DLC I recommend playing through bioshock 1
indeed
What about Bioshock 2?
So Bioshock 2 is just a self contained story then?
bioshock 2 is like...
aaaaaaallllmost not canon at this point
I read some stuffs and watched some videos, but, really? It’s that disconnected?
it's an alright game but
bio1 doesn't sequel bait - it is it's own contained story
infinite doesn't reference bio 2 even once so
you can skip it if you want
Alrighty then

Bioshock is so much fun tho
The whole story is just
Bioshock 2 was fun too - interesting to be on the other side of the walls & all (plus the little sister thing)
Infinite has cool story, but the setting for most of the game isn’t as interesting imo, but I also just love the ocean so
And the dlcs are fun - though infinite gets the reward for best dlc
i think the DLCs are the weakest part of infinite
haven't seen this much pandering and fan service since mgs4
Why is it almost not canon anymore?
and how the whole story bends over backwards to connect all loose threads to bioshock 1 in any way
Now
i explained in literally the next post
Do read again my reason for not being too into infinite
And remember where you go in dlc
And why I then might think it’s the better dlc
It’s not actually bcuz of the story it’s just the setting
For me
oh i know why you might think that
If I go by story then I loved bio 2 dlc more
i just wish infinite stuck with doing it's own thing instead of trying to for it's dear life to connect itself to bioshock 1
Cuz it stands alone
it's not a numbered sequel
it's got new characters, new universe, different gameplay, different tone
we've had two underwater bioshocks
i think it's fair to expect for infinite to fully commit to it's own, new universe
Infinite is the pre-sequel-standalone-odd duck 🦆
It’s mostly it’s own thing until the end & the dlc
It’s prequel if it’s the dlc
and then infinite's dlc comes along and is like "yo it was actually elizabeth all along!" and pretends like they planned it all since 2007
like - come on, now
The one thing I love about that dlc
Is watching let’s players who are doing blind plays of it
and they all gobble it up too with a huge grin?
yeah sure whatever
it's been 8 years
the series is dead
That whole Oh we’re here again wait WHAT that’s how it happened?
that's the thing - that is exactly not how it happened
there isn't a single thing in bioshock 1 that even implies that elizabeth was there
and that fontaine was dealing with her
I did enjoy seeing rapture before it died though
none of that
i see the universe of bioshock as...
dead
and it went out on a pandering, fanservicy whimper
instead of with a bang
The bio 1 we play is one of those where Elizabeth doesn’t go back cuz it’s not one of those that bookerstock went back to
So there’s no hint of Elizabeth in that one
i'd have more respect for ken levine, and the entire series, if it ended with infinite.
full stop
instead of bending over backwards to appease people who wanted even more rapture after two full games fully dedicated to it.
it lacked confidence
Then the rapture we have in dlc is another one where they obviously did go back & that’s similar to but not the one we played in in bio 1
I haven’t played the game up to that point yet, but isn’t that the thing though? Most people only remember Rapture when talking about Bioshock?
this is my point
I mean, that’s most of the thing I see people talk about
That’s how you talk about them
infinite does it's own thing... until it doesn't
If you talk about bioshock you’re talking about the rapture games unless you mention infinite history
they tried so hard to distance themselves from that place and then chickened out by the end
so what's the point then?
here comes the vigors argument
I was thinking more handymen
Anachronistically Rapture? Lmao
close
yeah
If I remember right
Dunno
I didn’t mean it’s all over infinite in a smack you in the face way
But in an inspirations way
yeah i know what you mean
i played those games
Bcuz they literally in universe got inspired from rapture & stole things
most of those things are pretty far fetched to justify the gameplay - i'll admit
but...
can't we do new and unique things?
can't we fully commit to fully realizing new ideas anymore?
infinite's universe was new and cool and refreshing
just as rapture was in bio1
I’m just not that interested in the whole sky thing I guess
but then at the end the game goes 180 and is like "lol no it's all about rapture again"
