ok imma fricking solve the myst maze today

lmfao yeah i solved it an it's unfortunately what i expected. the only thing you get from it is escaping from a sublevel back to the main level. My mapping was more efficient and way faster this time (it seems the maze is kinda randomly generated with each game start or sth?) and I wanted to look for any clues that could help me because in the main level, I had no idea how to progress further... but there's literally nothing else

So imma go back to the main level and somehow try to get anything going there...

i'd say stick to the mind map in your spaceship. It shows you where you have still missing information, if that information is majorly important; and it shows you on what planets to visit to find that information (and as I mentioned, even though planets might seem large at first, there's actually not much stuff to do on there). It can even show you info grouped by planet iirc. And you can follow any clues for now that you like, just pick any

you can basically 80% finish each planet in a cycle

and then you use your spaceship's notes to find the loose ends

at the very least I ll give rebirth something...the gameplay is better, the bosses are better and it did had the entire disc 1....but spoiled the final boss of the OG game...for no reason

Just finished it, at least the first story path, will quickly check out the other two. Bit weird because the, I guess, 'best ending' a character gives a concluding speech but he trails off, and the says 'oh yeah you can click this item to return back to the main island' and there you are again (the credits are shown whenever you quit the game anyway)

You as the protagonist don't have any backstory, you're just thrown onto this mysterious Myst island (unless I missed epic giga lore)

There's a library written by just one guy who explored this island and found connections to other worlds (usually in form of islands (lol)) through books. Basically a lot of diaries about different worlds, what he experienced there (some are inhabited for example), what he built there... but the most recent thing you see of him is a message he left, looking for help

I'm not gonna spoiler anything because this is a 33 year old game

I think point and click is not accurate in that sense, since you still kinda move through a 3D world normally and item combination is limited, it's more of a classic adventure

He also has/had a wife (not really relevant) and two sons, you meet both of them in the form of two books, one son being imprisoned in each, and all they ever say is 'my brother is evil, don't ever trust him, he murdered father, bring me pages so i can be free!'

You get to visit the islands mentioned in the diaries, solve some puzzles there as well, and there's always a red and blue page (should've mentioned that one of the 'son books' is red and one is blue) you can bring back. You can bring both back but it's a bit annoying since you have to teleport back to that island, go through the puzzle again and then bring back the other page

And with each page their voices are getting a lil bit clearer and longer, accusing each other while trying to play the victim

It might also be helpful to know that one guy speaks with manic energy, crazy laughter etc while the other guy is more statemanlike, but somewhat arrogant. Neither seems trustworthy (they're also presented with FMV)

So when I finally got all pages for both of them (you could obviously favor just one of them but there's no real reason to) they give you more 'here's why you should totally trust me!' and a final puzzle where you find a red page, a blue page and a green book. The pages would set (one of) them free, and both tell you to NOT TOUCH THE GREEN BOOK BECAUSE YOU WILL BE IMPRISONED; IT'S A TRAP

So I obviously touched the green book which lets you meet the original, uh, guy and it's i guess the best ending because he obliterates his two sons ~the end~

So now to check what the two maniacs do when i release them instead...

Frontlines (the 24-player mode) is super unbalanced because of it, but the new objective-based 5v5 which replaced the Feast can sometimes be fun (but is almost always a steamroll in either direction))

twice the insanity and half the creativity

the writing took a nosedive

the humor was more miss than hit

okay so "fusion" is like a separate app that was supposed to combine all serious engine 3 games
that... didn't work all that well

so you can play only the HD remasters and 3 in there
but 3 comes with a whole lotta fixes in fusion

and then BFE Enhanced is a overhaul mod that brings back a lot of scrapped content (thjat was still in trailers) and just brings it a step closer to classics

it's genuinely my favorite serious sam now

last year i made a big ole mod list for that with BFE enhanced and then played the whole thing on the highest difficulty

scrapjacks got their scrapped attacks back
the new minigun works great, levels look better

in short

vanilla ss3 was good
fusion ss3 was great
bfe enhanced ss3 is the best serious sam to date

the only two gripes i have with this mod are:
1 - you can't flip off the alcor warship anymore after it crashes
2 - they replaced that awesome main theme at the end with that old serious sam music

which doesn't fit at all
