They released a lot of games in that vein in the early 00s.

Metal Wolf Chaos came out on PC a while back and I still don't know why I haven't played it yet.

Yeah, DBFZ combos are incredible but incredibly arcane (to me), Guilty Gear looks more attainable.

learning combos to me is just like learning a dante or nero sequence in dmc. It's just fun to gradually piece everything together

I could spend hours in training mode lol, learning consistency and seeing how much I can keep this dude in the air

I think part of why Smash clicked juuust a little more for me than other fighting games is the way combos are a little more freeform.

The nature of directional influence and the % system and being the platform fighter codifier means there's less memorizing button sequences and more reacting to where your last hit sent them.

I only just got smash ultimate so idk. It does seem interesting, but might be frustrating as the comboer, since sometimes just wont work at the wrong percent

5 days of main campaign and the apocalypse weekend expansion
and you know what?

it's the total opposite of this teenage edgelord game i remembered it as
it's a hilarious, slapstick cartoon

there's nothing in this game that goes further than a spicier episode of family guy or south park or any of the adult cartoons you might find on any streaming services
not a single thing

is it violent? offensive? kinda gross sometimes?
yes
but those things don't really hit as hard as they used to those 20-something years ago
maybe we just got desensitized to this sort of stuff, i don't know
or maybe the popculture we consume in general evolved in such a way that this doesn't even seem that crazy anymore

this shouldn't be banned - it should be back in stores in germany and australia and all those other places
there's a lot of people out there missing out on one of the funniest freaking things i've ever played

so here's my dramatic recreation of this moment

i was at the mall, waiting in line to get my autograph from gary coleman
the line was pretty long, but it was early in the run when i still tried to be mostly peaceful so i waited... patiently
and after a few minutes of waiting this cop lady walks in and cuts in line and goes in first

and everyone in the line was like "yo wtf" and starts swearing at her and flipping her off
so i leaned to the side to see what the commotion was all about, saw her cutting in and i thought i might tell her what i think about all this
so i pressed B

B stands for Bird
so i flipped that npc off and this is when i realized - my middle finger has splash damage
because before the dude even had a chance to get to "you" in f-u, everyone
and i mean everyone in my field of view took that personally and pulled a gun on me
the 10 people in line, gary coleman, his bodyguards, the police lady and all the people around us started shooting at me

so i just ran away giggling like a child at this whole situation

i can't think of any other game that can pull moments this absurd out of thin air
it's all unscripted - it's just AIs doing their things on one side and a player with access to weird, unbalanced mechanics on the other

but i'm playing on HW difficulty - so this kerfuffle agitated every npc in the area
i ran away, hiding in the armory while they were all shooting each other because

and here's the thing - as this gunfight was going on, that dude on the piano kept playing the same song but faster and faster

so i was hiding in the armory, listening to the sounds of escalating violence, stuffing my face with stale donuts and floor pizza while that piano dude sounded like he was scoring the whole scene, playing freakin Rush E

this is some monty python stuff right there

and right now i'm bugging stray cats to cough up some pocket change for Mike J's dubious charity

It’s kind of funny bc that was the initial reason of my interest in modding the game. My friend joked about changing a characters eye color and I looked into it but found it too overwhelming at first
And now I know how to do all that other stuff, but not how to change the eye color. lol

Texture mods are very much more simple than anything else

I guess it depends, but the first time I really remember modding a game like that is pathologic and it was very simple. Helped by the fact it’s an old game so the texture are just one dinky square so it’s clear where everything goes
