How's the solo/new player experience?

im solo like 95% of the time and ive managed most of the stuff i care about (primarily pve). you can pop in and out of metas as they happen around maps. i don't do raids/fractals/pvp so i can't speak on that but there's always guilds willing to train for that. new player experience is. well you can tell the game came out in 2012. I don't think it's horrible, ive def had more off putting experiences in mmos, there's just a lot you end up picking up by word of mouth from other players that the game never tells you. i tell my friend a bunch of stuff when we play that they wouldn't have known otherwise. but the community is rly friendly (in pve) most of the time and generally all you have to do is ask in map chat if you need help
there is a cash shop and they do sell convenience items if that's a thing that annoys you, but most unlocks, including cosmetics, are account bound and can be freely used once you own it. since theres no subscription I'm totally okay with a little spend here and there bc I think that's a great system.

all processed with that good old idtech 3 physics goodness
but on the other hand - its way more realistic and tactical than CS

it's such a weird mix but god it feels just so good in your hands

but - here's how i can describe a firefight in UrT using terms similar to the games we just talked about
like - you're engaging someone on the other side of the room
you get hit in the leg for 30hp - now you're bleeding and your movement speed is reduced
you hide around corner to bandage your wounds and reload your guns BUT - while doing so you left a trail of blood pointing to where you're hiding
you lower your gun, bandage your leg and you hear that other dude coming your way and your stamina is limited to 70% because of the hit you just took - what do you do?
in cs all you could do is aim slightly off the corner at head-height and hope for the best BUT SCREW IT
this is urt - just mash that "drop gear" button to drop your kevlar and your bomb and other stuff that weights you down and use that sudden boost in cardio to jump up then jump off the wall you were just hiding behind to get the drop on that guy and do a 180 and just magdump your desert eagle at him
and you get bonus points if you finish it off with a power slide using the just gained momentum
that's how this game played like and it was AMAZING
the speed you could get there with all that physics schmoovment was absurd
to this day this game has the fastest CTF i've ever played
with some maps having time from one flag to another at under 5 seconds
like yeah sure - the game was fugly and the desert eagle looked like a water gun and players looked like they were running around in pajamas and the whole thing had this amateur feel to it but screw it
there isn't a single multiplayer FPS with a better feeling movement

take it from someone who dumped over a 1000 hours into the series
on the surface level - bl3 may seem like the best one
it starts off strong and there's a lot of improvements to the gameplay
combat feels great, the loot is great, the game looks great - it's great at first
but as you play you will realize that all those improvements serve absolutely nothing
it doesn't serve the story - this game has the worst writing in the entire series - and that's a really low bar and this game still somehow managed to limbo underneath it
and they don't serve the overall looter-shooter genre either because this game has absolutely no challenge (like none - none at all - it feels like playing any other game with cheats on, i am dead serious) AND it just throws legendaries at you every 15 minutes diminishing any appeal looting may have in this game
