but in practise - it sanded down all the rough edges i liked about 1 resulting in a smooth timesink of a game
and then they hired anthony burch to write 2 just because he made some funny videos on youtube
without him even playing the first one prior AND IT SHOWS
this plot has so many holes you could paint the script yellow and sell is as cheddar
and it just keeps on yapping and yapping and yapping, talking a lot but saying nothing
it's a problem the first one avoided by just...
not having many dialogues
and delegating most worldbuilding to tried and tested logs
the first one had a bit of an edge, you know?
it was dusty, grimy and had some rather dark stuff hidden all over the place (like tannis' backstory)
and most importantly - you weren't the good guys
you're there just to get rich by killing people and getting to the vault - hence the title "vault hunter"
and then bl2 comes along and the intro sequence portrays your four main characters as just that - a bunch of "vault hunters" that are there just to blow crap up
and then TWO MINUTES INTO THE GAME the pre-rendered intro ends and the game starts and suddenly the title of a vault hunter is like a badge of honor?

without even finding a single vault
and suddenly you're like the chosen ones and you're off to save the sanctuary
and it's like... why?
i ranted enough about revolvers today so i won't even go into streamlined mechanics today anyway
like oh sure there's more skills and more guns and shields and what not
but there's less weapon classes and no weapon spec
and that combined with the atrocious level scaling railroads everyone to set meta builds so sooner or later everyone on UVHM is gonna be running the same 3-4 builds 
meanwhile in bl1 i had a white-rarity shotgun that worked with my playstyle so well it carried me through not one, but TWO full playthroughs

you can dump some cash there and try your hand at gambling
you can win guns of different rarity, but it's so stacked against you that most of the time you either roll pocket change (which is always less than you just put in), or a dozen of live grenades exploding right in your face

i've dumped A LOT of hours into bl2 (over 500, ballpark) and in all this time i only managed to roll one legendary rifle
i was really excited
i was playing with a buddy and went all like "holy sh- i won! i got a legendary"
so he runs over "cool - lemme see it"
so i dropped it on the ground, he picked it up
went "cool", and dropped it back for me
and here's where the magic happens
for some reason (probably due to optimisation), dropped items don't have proper bounding collision boxes - they're just points, infinitely small
and there's one place in that bar where two pieces of floor connect
and there's a teeny tiny gap between them (stuff like that just happens) - invisible to the naked eye and small enough for objects with proper collisions to not fall through
you can probably see where this is going
i got the best luck and the worst luck one random event after another
i rolled like 0.0000001% chance (or whatever) and got that legendary
and then hit the same chances on that tiny little point on the gun model to fall down that invisible crack in the floor
WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF THAT!?
so the rifle just phased through the floor and fell down the eternal void - never to be seen again

it accidentally came up with a solution that they got rid of in 2 - the compass
1 didn't have a minimap so it had a compass that also showed markers for enemies... in the middle of the screen!
so if im getting shot at and i can't see the guy i just have to line up the red dot on the compass with my crosshair
sure it made navigating a bit harder - cause again - no minimap
but now this new edition has BOTH the compass and the minimap - solving both problems
why can't we do that in 2?

I just completed V Rising and while at first I was worried that it would get boring quickly when playing solo, 124 hours later I'm pretty happy with the game. For my adhd brain it was like a dopamine assembly line with the incremental goals and rewards lol. Loved how simple but fun at the same time the combat is and even though there isn't much point to it solo, I spent insane amount of time just building the castle, so fun.

Yeah that was my experience as well - I did like the revolvers at first and used them most of the time, but headshotting didn‘t get harder

i think the calypso twins make for some really great villains with some rather interesting conflict going on
cause on one hand - they're influencers - that alone makes me want to shoot their faces off
but then again - they want to kill lilith and claptrap - which is pretty based and i want to side with them
