That's a deliberate choice that I think can work, it's not like a game like that cannot work, and they do a good job with it

I mean red dead redemption pretty much does the exact same thing with how it handles plot

The open world stuff is a different beast but the story itself is like that, and a lot of stories can be told through this style of game, it's not inherently wrong I think.

But yeah fair enough we all might want some games to do something we personally like more
