my bestie bought it earlier and is generally really bad at any kind of game that isnt like. idle or smth they can hyperfocus collecting and building in, and they really loved the accessibility for this game and enjoyed it a lot
its short, like 3-4 hours, and is kinda like playing through a few episodes of a slapstick swashbuckling comedy show
i just like to hype them up, i adore that they turned a student project into a game like this with such fluid combat, i hope they find success with it and do even greater things :)

The BL3 DLCs all have 'better' campaigns. It's really a shame that the the main story falls off so hard because the classes and gameplay are actually pretty good. It really feels like they made some last minute changes to the script and ran out of time to make sure they all actually work

but yeah - he're some cliffnotes after the first four hours of aftershock
1 - shelly is as cool as ever, and she's got some absolutely 10/10 oneliners here
2 - the game itself is way, WAY harder (and the OG was already pretty damn hard to begin with)
3 - loverboy is still one of the best handguns ever put into a video game
4 - the new powerups are a riot - just so much fun to use - and they're borderline gamebreaking
5 - the sheer amount of detail and secrets and just... the intricacy of it all is completely insane
6 - all the new content and quality of life improvements are enough to warrant at least one full playthrough of the base game
7 - you can drink an entire bar clean for 50 points of health, mow down a bunch of cultists with a minigun and then chase it all down with a box of cold pizza in literally the first room of the game
10/10

a proper, pure-blood classic FPS with some of the most twisty-turny level design i've ever seen
levels absolutely crammed with details with paths that criss-cross in more ways than i could count
and the game encourages you to go off the beaten path and explore - with most secrets leading to other places and folding on top of other rooms

it does "that kind" of signposting

that village sure had a drab color palette
it painted that village in all 50 shades of brown
it's all mud and wood and crunchy leafs - all brown
but here's the thing
it didn't need yellow paint to show a player that they can climb a ladder
or that you can break a box
sure you might argue that's because of visual clutter
but if that's the case then this yellow paint is a solution for a problem AAA created for itself

That's why I don't play them haha. Other end of the spectrum would be the ones with no interesting environment because they don't care because you're rushing past and you don't need the detail anywhere (not like i'm gonna stop and admire desync's, uh, polygons)

I played like two recent-ish ‚arcade‘ racing games and I wondered what their point was lmao. And then I played Slipstream which looks more interesting but I suck too much

i lament the current state of racing games
like - not only it is the most stale genre out there
but on the AAA side of it we are left with just two, maybe three IPs
NFS and forza
which are both just ever so slightly different flavors of "real car go vroom"
where more money goes to licencing those cars (and the god awful music they come with on the stereo)
more attention goes to texturing spoilers and gameplay takes a back seat and never evloves past "go fast and don't crash"
not because it would slow you down, mind you
but because Ford didn't agree to show their cars getting trashed
on the indie side we get some more creative titles every now and then, but then always fail to make a splash
and then there's nintendo doing mario kart and nothing else
where's burnout?
where's carmageddon?
where's twisted metal?
wipepout? last one was like 7 years ago
and the canned split second sequel still makes me cry to this day

the last actually fun indie racing game i played was Grip
which is this sort-of sequel to rollcage
it's really well made and there's no fluff
you boot up the game and bam - all the modes are right there, one click away
and couch split-screen is two clicks away
and... that's it
there's nothing more to it
the campaign is just a set of maps that give you some made up experience points that you can spend on

see - burnout 3 and 4 (my beloved) were a perfect storm where EA's funding was big enough to power some properly impressive tech (and some actually good music) to make that game happen
but weren't too big to risk any creative freedom
now that budgets are 10 times bigger (and with that - the monetary risk is also bigger too), and with car manufacturers holding publishers by the jewels - they're not gonna risk anything like the crash mode
or vertical takedowns
and don't you even think about powerups
or just straight up slapping guns on top of your car

ok so for the people who don't know wtf i'm talking about
in ion fury at the end of chapter 3 there's a bossfights
and in one of the rooms before that bossfight there's a fully working piano
with a fully working netronome
made on the build engine from '95, mind you, so it's a bit jank
and to get to the secret level you have to play a certain melody
more or less to the tick of that netronome
if you do that you get a secret keycard
which you can use to unlock a secret level later on down the line
but how do you know what notes to play?
well of course - in a different secret ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL INSIDE OF ANOTHER SECRET
so not only you have to hunt down like 4 different secrets spread across two different levels (you can't come back btw so if you missed at least one - you're screwed)
but you also have to remember the exact combination of keys you have to press to the beat of the netronome oh and btw - you better learn how to play a piano in the meantime
