sometimes i think most script writers are like "oh let's kill the important/beloved/just a nice character so it'll create many drama and much emotions"

also that same tropes over and over..

a) mcs are looking for some kind of treasure, going through many difficulties and adventures to get it, in the end facing some kind of opposing force that prevents them from getting it, forcing to barely get out there alive, getting either nothing or 0,00001% of expected treasure

b) some kind of important thing is invented, a panacea, a perpetuum mobile, an absolute power source or whatever, some bad guys try to get it, mcs doing there best to prevent it from falling in the wrong hands, in the end destroying the thing, bc "world is not ready yet"

a) and b) sometimes come along

and c).. there are two mcs, they come together a long way, through fire and war, bad guys and whatever else, forging their bond harder than everything else. in the end one of them sacrifices his/her/their life for another.

i swear, the very beginning of such a plot make me lose about 60-80% of interest

my current struggle is pokemon- did a solo run with a decent but not great pokemon for white 2 and that was too easy, so for scarlet i picked something with pathetic base stats but one (4x) weakness and it has gone from 'somewhat difficult' to 'completely insane' VERY FAST

...at least i have found how to make the game not laughably easy though

i'm on basically the final thing to do to call this run complete but it's so unbelievably bad i don't know if i'll make it out the other end sane

i hit level 161 after days of painful grinding. as a reward, the anomaly shop expands, selling... the materials found at levels 51-70

Depending on how far you go in the years, there is a huuuge amount of them, with incredible variety in quality.

I grew up on Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy and those were really fun

if you go even further then you have KOTOR, but those are RPGs so the combat is not the same

so it also depends on your preference

i am biased bc i recently finished it and also it's got me obsessed, but smtiv:a does its endings pretty well? you've got two proper ones, which are basically 'live happily ever after with all your friends' and 'kill your friends and rule the world'

but if you choose the latter it doesn't spend the rest of the game guilt-tripping you for it, which is kinda refreshing seeing as any other game would immediately just brand that as a bad ending.
and the friendship ending feels worth it more than anything else just because smt never has endings like that

I think there is nothing wrong with the amount of media which explores tragedy through great amount of struggles characters face. But I am also not having much troubles with said stories since usually if executed well enough it has meaning to it, and that's to let the radiant glimpse of hope or humanity conveyed in such grim tales. It's capability for one self to be able to continue on to push against the odds, to show virtue, kindness. It's that even in the darkest of hours one can smile. And I think that's rad stuff. The suffering is not there to pull the emotional strings, it's to put happy memories on the front and center amongst the uncertainty.
And I think there can be nice games about just happiness, but it can be definitely challenging to be thought provoking, since there needs to be some conflict, struggle to reach the happy part and this is where it gets into people thinking about their experiences, get emotional and let out the sad parts out, but same can be said for sad parts, they can't purely exist by themselves in their own bubble, for it to even convey something one must know how the happy feeling is in said story, otherwise it's just an unknown struggle, since nothing is know how it was like before it or what's the point of it even is.

Basically for me while the grim tales of suffering do make me sad, in the end they help me appreciate more each passing second interacting with other people, to make bonds and feel happy. Like woah that's amazing we can do that.

that's kinda how it's supposed to be. problem is that not every story is written well, which makes some script writers think that suffering is just a quick way to make a story meaningful and make people think about something

also, it doesn't work the same way with all the people. like, some people look at the examples of how bad a life can be, and how characters still manage to hold it together and go on, and they get inspired and try to make their own life better

but some people are already left only with memories about nice things in their own lives, and every new story just remind them more and more that whatever you do, in the end it doesn't even matter, people you like will leave you alone with a huge scar in your heart, etc. they try to find examples of normal life in media, and today it gets harder and harder

same things can inspire one people and disencourage others

and since we're talking about interactive media in this channel, it's not that impossible to create a story both with struggles and suffering, but also a nice ending where everybody is safe. And where all the attempts to make things better, all the efforts to save everybody from harm actually do matter.

Undertale is, imo, a nice example of how a story can be both serious, full of inner and outer conflicts that are supposed to be dealt with, but also have the best ending for everybody, for a change. Literally, "Despite everything, they have lived happily ever after."

I think it's cool in ways how people express their thoughts in media and usually it's ways is very much reflective of their own experiences, how they think these stories would turn out, it's a shame you can't find what you look for, but there is definitely more out there what you like, just need to search for it.
Media isn't always about escapism though definitely since it's made by real people, they struggle too, they want to emit their feelings into somewhere in ways they feel will leave a mark on others to cherish things.

i actually really enjoyed doing a no-win run - i approached it from a more of an angle of a reader who is a real jerk, but you can simply be a reader who is bad at conducting the rites imo. its interesting, and you get the chance to learn much more about the characters. or you can give it your all and try your best to win, im sure you can succeed at least at some rites! maybe once you figure out the tricks of the ai it wont be as bad

Well, i made my friend watch the story through youtube. And give them some context that the gameplay provides lmao. They loved it!

Im not sure what easy patch does. But the gameplay really is brutal. I personally played through it, but I prefer to have more people experience the (incredible)story than have people get filtered by gameplay

i remember Stronghold to be a kind of RTS i like

you basically do the same, build buildings, battle battles, but instead of a chessboard where you have to plunder everything faster than your opponent, and rush him with photon cannons and carriers, you have an actual land to live on
