it just clicked for me - just today
now i get what it's trying to do and BOI
with a right mindset... it's a wonderful game
brilliant, daring but still deeply flawed and misunderstood
it's a weird feeling
it took me 11 years to figure out what genre this game even is
cause it sure as 💩 isn't an action-RPG like ds1

no no - hear me out
DS1 was a full on action RPG in every sense of the word
sure - the RPG mechanics were robust enough to allow you a plethora of weird builds, but you could offset your lack of stats by pure reflexes
you could cancel out of attack animations earlier by dodging - giving you some leeway after poorly timed attacks, healing was fast, and you could always improve your dodge whenever you wanted by just... stripping naked
even if you didn't have the stats to do proper rolls with your current setup
the worlds was unique, the map was interconnected and stacked vertically like a hamburger
it was a single, uninterrupted journey
and here comes in DS2...
with combat that - at first - seems way clunkier
attacks are slow, you have to wait for almost every animation to finish, can't panic dodge the way you used to, estus animation is 3 times slower while healing itself is like... 10 times slower
you have to be way more thoughtful during combat, every swing has to be calculated and deliberate
there's a way bigger emphasis on your stats now - what in ds1 was always available and one click away (fast dodging with massive iframes by taking off your armor) now is dictated by lots of different stats
so it's more RPG than action now
that combined with a little bit more "generic" fantasy - with dwarfs and what not
and a worlds map that throws a big ole pile of different, separated "zones" at you which you can finish and forget
way more gear and a metric truckload of consumables that give you all sorts of buffs...
with all that in mind it just clicked for me...
it's less of an action-RPG and more of a dungeon crawler
god, i could win a gold medal with those mental gymnastics

also don't forget to kill all the fire keepers for their souls which will improve your estus
try to stay human for as long as you can - especially in anor londo

and - don't forget that all merchants drop super rare items when they're killed - stuff they're just not willing to sell

Console versions of games have the luxury of running on a very specific set of hardware every time. That allows developers to optimize performance for that specific set of hardware.
On PC, the game must be able to run on a virtually endless list of possible hardware configurations. That means the devs can't optimize the game to nearly the same degree, and to get the same performance on a PC you need hardware many times more powerful than a console.
This is the big reason for why it takes so long to port a console-exclusive title to a PC. Console developers get a hardware devkit, and as soon as they optimize their game on that, they are by and large done with optimization.
On PC, it's a lot more complex. You have different manufacturers with different proprietary drivers, and you have users that will try to run your game on a potato and complain about performance.

I built my PC in 2020 and it was... rough. I got the GTX 1650 Super at a price that did not make my eyes bleed. To be honest it wasn't a bad card. I played Doom (2016) and Wolfenstein The New Order on it with no problem at all, enjoyed the heck out of Hades, too. When the prices finally dropped on GPUs I found a guy who was upgrading from Radeon 6000 series to nVidia 30 series for work and got an ok price on the AMD card. I probably would have stuck with the GTX but I got an absolute steal of a deal on a 32 inch 4k monitor and I wanted to actually play in high res.

I enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077 overall. One could fault it for lacking depth or variety, but in my opinion it makes up for it with story, character writing and a strong core gameplay loop.
I have not played Borderlands 3, but the previous games in that franchise were pretty good. Some find their brand of humor grating but I enjoyed it.

let me put it this way - i don't have the time or the energy to put it in detail, so i'll just say this
i've put an absurd amount of time into this series
bl1, 2 and the presequels
most of the expansions, all of the characters, with multiple MG+ cycles
i've sunk over a 1000 hours into the entire series and...
i regret it
i want this time back
