After the phone call, my teammates A. almost killed the monster without me and B. ran around in circles with me. Cause after the phone call it was only 1 - 2 mins before the monster died.

Just played Superliminal - don't have to talk about the gameplay which is why I like it. What I'm not sure about though is the story arc - it starts of in a very Portal-like style which is kinda predictable, but the ending being ||wholesome, earnest, non-ironic and 'everything was planned and you're good to go :)'|| is weird to me? Not that it makes the game bad or that it's an irrational ending, but I don't see the progression, it's like two different stories. Imagine if Portal ended with something like ||'but you made your own choices - that's what makes you human'||

The following ||robot and doctor commentaries are light-hearted as well and while the Dr. already hints at the therapy too, it's just some kind of tone shift. You obviously have the parts with blood smears too but I find it kinda incoherent||

I doubt there was a ton of work gone into the overarching themes or narrative

to install mods you want to press win+r and type in %appdata% , there should be a folder near the top called .minecraft, look for a folder inside that is just named mods. if it's not there you can make one very easily by clicking up here https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/800967579920760855/1017444949765132308/unknown.png and naming the folder mods. if that is all right you can go to https://modrinth.com/mods (again there are other places to download mods by again it's my personal preference, good place to start) when you download any mods it should just download a .jar file. drag and drop this jar file into the mods folder and it should load into your game. just make sure to have fabric selected in the launcher.

and then i chugged it all during the last bossfight

like i said - it gets personal
a while back i released a mod for doom 2 that gets close to being a TC.
i've spent 2 years on it - new maps, guns, music, textures, a new bossfight - this sort of stuff.
and - of course - secrets.
and i've put one secret right on the first map that's designed just to annoy people and waste their time

so - what you have to do is get to the end of the level, turn back, look for a little crack in the wall that shows up when you get close to the end, use it to reveal a little passage, get through it up on the roof
and then you have to slooowly and carefully shimmy across a ledge aaaaaaallll the way around the building to get to the start of the map to get...
a completely useless single magazine for your starter pistol.

you pick it up, i show a little message saying "nice view" (i guess that's your "reward" for all this) and that's it
you just wasted anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes

a boom shoot from 2019 running on a build engine that has some of the most obscure secrets i've ever seen in a game
there's a bit where you're climbing this tower and every level exit is an elevator that leads you to a next floor

Lol nah, it's more of a genre thing

He cycles through so many games so quickly that he really doesn't like games on the grindier side (ex. Octopath) or take a little bit of time to "git gud" (his review of Gungeon was glowing but he also stated that he put it down a few times due to difficulty). He also almost never plays turn based or strategy games.
I understand that he's a video maker first and foremost so those games would be low on the radar. But I hope thay doesn't influence the way the company is run because those games are a huge part of indiesphere.

I have very high doubts it will go good, since we surely have a good track record of Video Game Youtubers making companies to publish and makes games, since they play and or review them for a living. And so far not so much really to go off about how it will go either, besides knowing how Dunkey goes about making content surrounding games and buzzword salad that is featured in this video. Also still looking forward to know how's the contract is formed. That will be interesting to know.

I mostly question if Dunkey will be able to deliver on the promises from the site on publishing and having an actual decent contract for developers.
Not to talk about possible lack of actual industry experience to judge games while they are still being developed from concept to finish.

Publishing is quite a lot and game development is especially difficult thing. You can't really also apply the same outlook to every game the same way, they are different and need different design decisions to properly flesh out the concept.
If anything at the current moment it's best be cautious about the company as there isn't enough trust built as of current to hope for it to give good publishing offer to developers and means to actually produce the game.

I find it hard to pin down best writing since it's a fuzzy term, but trying to separate it as best as possible from gameplay etc it'd be Stories Untold and Outer Wilds for me. The former being a style-switching meta commentary (that I personally enjoyed more than similar games, say The Stanley Parable), the latter being the wonderful success of creating so many fragments that you can pick up anywhere

Beyond indie, no surprise that Bioshock has great writing... and I still recommend Final Fantasy XIII (not just because I love Lightning a normal amount (I need to play it again))

disco elysium easily the winner but also its basically only writing
cruelty squad is pretty well written and impactful once you make sense of it
omori's great but the most meaningful parts of its story aren't written

After finally getting around to playing through The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, I'm super conflicted

On one hand, the new bits to the game are really fun and enjoyable, and it genuinely goes places once you start hitting the new content.

On the other hand, I can't help but feel like it detracts from the "punchiness" of the first game in an attempt to expand a game that for all intents and purposes was a fully fleshed out product pre-update

i wouldn't say disco elysium is only writing though. the stats you allocate, the choices that changes your character and the world, outcomes based on dice rolls. very game.

though i guess for me, this question is about what game does a good job of presenting a narrative. some uses a lot of words to do it(disco elysium), some might just show you a world where you can get immersed in (outer wilds)
