It's not a big boost if you are running with a new weapon, i.e. have not collected any bounties yet, though it will when you run with a weapon that you already collected all the bounties for; collected bounties are replaced with a large and increasing (boss 2 gives more darkness than boss 1, boss 3 more than boss 2, etc) sum of darkness

If you've got Athena attack or dash then just face him directly just after it turns red and attack/dash into it

go with weapons you like the play-style of 🙂 BUT, be sure to try each one multiple times. Weapon "Aspects" come later, after you unlock all 6 weapons, and change how the weapons play/behave.
sometimes it feels like a weapon doesn't play well, but it can be due to which Boons you get/choose as much as anything else

If you've checked the codex, you'd see there's a locked heart. These require doing each npcs certain favors. The heart will be unlocked, you can give them the ambrosia now
