Grandma has awesome boons, it's just that she's like Zeus where they're greedy, you need to get more and more boons from them to get the most out of them.

I think my fastest run so far is still using Chiron bow with Frost Flourish + Arctic Blast as the main combo.

While she definitely works good if you stack a lot of her boons that interact, she's ironically a good pair for Zeus (which can be a problem depending on your main combo wanting more boons from either of them) and also I don't like her cast unless it's the Artemis duo version or I like to have her duo with Dionysus' cast which I like a lot more.

Demeter+Zeus+Dionysus+Artemis can make a pretty good pool if you get lucky with your Demeter and Zeus choices.

You can build it for chill+jolt, or for curses+backstab+crit, or for cast. Probably more options depending on your weapon and aspect. Point is, Demeter is a valid option. I feel like part of Hades is learning to make the best out of what boons you get early on and adapting. Demeter is certainly harder to work with than other gods to make an optimal build, for sure, but she's surprisingly flexible with what you can make work.

although it is worth noting that the god that aids Theseus will never be one you currently have a boon from

In game I think Aphrodite only talks about 3 of them (said to represent Dusa, Than, and Meg who have the "romances" with Zag). For that analogy, Zag himself would probably be Agapé, love of the divine, instead of Philautia (love of the self) because it is funny that way since he is the player character and technically an Olympian deity despite never setting foot on Olympus.

Even if Than means well, straight up calling somebody "utterly incompetent" is going way too far

(at least for the most part before Hypnos' favour is done) he doesn't think that other people may be going through things differently and resorts to judging them by his own narrow criteria and that isn't a good move by any stretch

That’s a very common thing from my perspective

And Nyx knows that in the end, Hypnos will improve if he continues on the path laid out for him, so her actions are defined by that. She's very deterministic most of the time -- with a couple of notable exceptions. She refuses to coddle him, possibly because if she does, he'll never get to the point of happiness or success.

He does indeed, but I can see why characters like Nyx and Thanatos act the way they do towards Hypnos.

Thanatos is simply very dour and critical. He means for his criticism to be constructive, and a lot of the time it is (calling Zag out on his overwhelming pushiness and disrespect for personal boundaries). However, he also derives much of his own self esteem from his actions and professional successes rather than who he is personality-wise. I'm not sure how much he actually likes himself, as he seems to justify his presence in people's lives through what he can do for them.

For Than, 'talking things out' would initially mean criticism, as that's the way he thinks he can be useful to Hypnos. Hypnos's contrasting demeanour likely doesn't help mind you. I can see how Than would see it as 'being brushed off' or just not being taken seriously enough. The twins are not necessarily people I can see getting along were they unrelated. They both have their insecurities, but have utterly conflicting coping mechanisms xDD

I’ve been using Antos these past few runs, Achilles is all like “forgive me, lord” whereas Patroclus is just like “haha nice eff him up for me Zag”

Man it’s great when the people you summon drop a little encouragement on Zagreus when they leave, like “keep fighting” or “you have this”

Especially with Than where Zag’s like “can’t talk now but I’ll see you at home 😘” or something along those lines
