According to Hades in one of his pre-fight dialogues for fighting him with Aspect of Lucifer, he apparently knows Lucifer and warns Zagreus against his influences.

As far as I remember, anyways.

Probably marks the only time Hades actually warns against his son doing something, not to fulfill his own ego, but for Zag's general safety, given the kind of person Lucifer is.

with this in mind, given the fact that Greek Orthodox actually did exist before the fall of Ancient Greece (or rather, Ancient Rome by that point, but Roman gods are literally Greek gods with different names), we can say the game of Hades takes place at least sometime after 50-60 AD

The best explanation I've seen so far places the game at around the Peloponnesian War.

So before 60ad. The greek othodox doesn't have to exist for the purposes of game lore knowing about Lucifer. They deal more with the time the legends were supposed to take place rather than the time the legends were written. That's why Rama has already happened despite being written fairly close to concurrently with ancient Greece, the setting is waaaaay in the past.

finishing either sisy or orpheus quest is required, as zag assisting them is part of what leads to achilles changing his mind. you dont need both done

since the way the dialogue works is a bit finicky, it is possible you may have them done before progression with achilles happens though

Not really it's a combination of dying and getting all of the Hypnos dialogue related to Asterius and Theseus, so you have to die to Asterius a good amount, and Theseus (specifically Theseus) around 3 times

I had a weird question. I watched a video of the some of the SuperGiant devs reacting to a 25min fresh file speed run, and during it they mentioned that there was supposed to be special dialogue from the final floor boss for reaching them on your very first run. But when I tried reading the dialogue as the speedrunner skipped over it, it was just the same as what you normally get. Is there not actually special dialogue, or did something change at some point? (I would try to find out through first hand experience but I'm not good enough at hades to reliably complete a first file escape)

They can see him but Nyx's darkness makes it very situational. Only Hermes can directly communicate at 1:1 speed since he's implied to just yeet himself on over whenever you touch his boons whereas the others are basically leaving you prerecorded messages and Zag sends them a prerecorded message any time you send them a nectar/ambrosia.

i think people have this expectation to have story wrapped up by the time they hit the epilogue, but thats really addressing the primary narrative and not all of the side relationships, so its really common to still be working on those post credits/epilogue

the game is pretty clear in establishing that zag doesnt know who skelly is prior to the events of the game

the cerberus portrait is largely fun art jen did that they decided to add into the game more than anything, since some details are too small to make out without seeing the original art

also theres multiple pieces of dialogue ranging from implications to outright saying meg and than (and by extension hypnos) are far older than zag

I think we put a lot of consideration into our character designs. Each specific character in our games exists in service of the story, theme, and world, and ultimately the play experience. We were compelled to make a game based on Greek myth because we were drawn to these gods as the ultimate example of a big, dysfunctional family. We are interested in these characters because they're so different from one another. If they looked the same, it would undermine what makes them compelling, and work against the theme of our game.

Further, as stated in another thread, the Greek gods are gods of the entire world; they were worshipped in Greece, but are not themselves Greek. Zeus rules the heavens; not just the airspace over Greece. As to why we don't just make our characters look exactly the way you expect -- if we felt we had nothing to add to Greek myth, we would not have made this game.```

I've been wondering, does Zag stay with wounds on his body or does he regenerate? If he had a finger cut off would he be missing it until it regenerated or until he died and is reborn whole. I would imagine that the other gods could regenerate because of ichor but zag has blood so maybe he can't regenerate. But then there's death defiance so idk.

There are the surviving theben plays and such, written by Euripedes and the like. Those plays are, as far as I'm aware, mostly retellings of stories about heroes from the mycenaean era, so they're not the very original versions. However, as far as I'm aware they were written in the ancient greek era when the gods were still worshipped and the culture hadn't yet been influenced by christianity and its ilk. And I'm sure some things are lost in translation, but at the very least it's not translated from a completely dead language (as far as I know), and the meanings of stories with even more difficult translations have survived pretty damn well tbh (such as the tale of gilgamesh). So I think it's fair to consider these plays as original versions of the stories insofar as they're contemporary products of ancient greek society.

There are a few characters in Hades I'm not very invested in, even one I don't enjoy talking to, but there isn't a single character I actually dislike as a character; I dislike Theseus as a person (insofar as one can dislike a fictional person), but I rather like him as a character. And even the characters I don't care about so much I still think are good, well written characters. I couldn't connect with them like I could with many of the others and that's absolutely fine, because they're well written characters that other people will connect with. They're just not meant for me. I can still recognise and appreciate the skill with which they've been written though.

I pity Theseus but enjoy his character. He's a rude grandiose narcissist but even he likes Zagreus in a way not even he can understand, since according to Asterius and Hades he's kind of become obsessed with Zagreus as a rival despite Zagreus really just being annoyed by the idea. It was also nice to see the crack in his armor when Asterius convinces him to go apologize to Ariadne.

• when you start a playthrough and speak to nyx after your first run or soon after you'll get what i'll call first meeting A (which is what a large majority of players have already seen: "Do not despair, child. Such setbacks are inevitable, and may be overcome with effort, and with time" etc etc
• if you choose not to speak to her, after a certain number of runs what should be first meeting A will instead be first meeting B, where her first line becomes "It pleases me to speak with you at last, child. So the goddess Athena was true to her word. You and she were wise to use discretion in your task" and the rest of the conversation varies from the other one but it's mostly the same thing
• if you choose not to speak to her EVER until after you complete the epilogue, you will get first meeting B BUT zagreus' post-convo comment will be different

getting that last line implies completing the entire game up to the epilogue with only the purple talents

since you need to speak to her once to get the green ones
