Yeah, miniboss rooms are usually easier and shorter than regular rooms (with the only exception being Tiny Vermin)

And the rewards are better to boot, so I always take them first if I can

But those are still pretty low odds

i've been thinking about this for a while

so i think the way hades does representation is maybe the best way to do that

let me explain

It is absolutely good sometimes to aim for intentional, positive, representation of different kinds of people

so much of the media we take in is not at all diverse

or, when it is, people with identities that are "outside the norm" are portrayed in a negative light

and so intentionally doing the opposite and including characters with "outside the norm" identities and having them be portrayed in an actively positive or heroic light can be good to counteract that to some extent

but

i think the best possible way to give representation to marginalized groups is often to just treat them in media the same way you would treat them in real life, like people.

you don't make a big deal out of their identity, you don't make it a central point to their character, it is just one of many facets of who they happen to be

and you show them as real people

which, as a reflection of reality, because all people deserve love and respect regardless of identity, gives people a good way to connect

it humanizes and normalizes groups that can othewise be demonized, and i think that's great

obviously, that's not a replacement for stories where people with identities outside the norm are the good guys or heros, but i think it's an excellent complimentary thing to that

nothing feels like its purely for clout or money; nothing is half-assed
nothing feels misunderstood or "quirky"
all of the "outside the norm" qualities of the people arent their main stuff too. we have a flying head who's a workaholic, is shy of getting closer to her, has abandonment issues and is aro, possibly even trans
heck a BOULDER has infinite more character than some main characters in mainly story-games

i love the way characters are done, and the way the the representation is done is some of the best i've seen in quite some time

and every single dialogue in the game makes clear that "life/these qualities arent only how they are shown here" which is just astonishing after game after game after game is telling "you are unique- you can only be that! or this!"

mostly because the characters are simply who they are, things like their gender or sexual orientation or race in hades aren't defining traits of those characters, they are just one piece of the puzzle so to speak, just like temperament or interests or attention span or whatever.

I don't think Chaos counts since they are not involved in Olympian family politics really but eh maybe make your last run before the epilogue using the Chaos Aspect so they can at least be there on a Zoom call, ha.

The implication I think was that because Zagreus was ||restored to life from a stillborn through a massive infusion of Darkness|| that he cannot leave the underworld for long as it too must reside there. Mayhaps he would last longer on the surface if ||it was dusk when he arrived instead of dawn. If only the lad would just SLEEP once in a while he might offset his arrival time!||
I think it would have been an interesting little touch if all that ||darkness you turn in to the resources director was actually being used to infuse your badge|| and that eventually it could act as a method of allowing Zagreus to survive for longer outside of the underworld once it had been infused enough!

There's no shortage of potential story to work with, Zagreus has 3 more future siblings to stir up trouble with. It's just a matter of determining if a sequel is where they wanna go. And I can't really speak to the purposes SGG was founded, they might wanna keep going with more original IPs instead of revisiting one even if it's super popular.

I agree. People see that Guan Yu loses max health and gains lifesteal and think the lifesteal is what it's about. But it's not. The lifesteal is kinda pitiful really, on its own it really just serves to keep you topped off while going through the levels. The real benefit of Guan Yu is that you can shoot the charge attack as a sort of blade-rift like effect that takes on the qualities of your attack boon, and the special is beefy and is more spammable than the others who either have backstab recall attacks or the raging rush instead.

I remember absolutely shredding dad with a build focusing on the charge attack instead of the special. Like the special is super cool but I find the charge attack to be really unique and it was hilarious having like 3 extra wide fast charging serpent slash storms on the screen at once that were backstabbing and inflicting Exposed. With extra backstab damage from having access to more curses, Weakness on the special, Chill on the dash, and both Chill and hangover on the Cast.

Honestly I build more for the champions than dad. So far my favorite was the build that made me like Exagryph: triple targeting-system chill bombs with triple trippy-shots that stacked slowing debuffs from numbing sensation. I didn't actually shoot anymore I just spamming special and cast and rained down mortars that nothing could move out of the way from.

Since it was all lobbed aoe and ground hazards it just went right behind Theseus and caught Asterius in the danger zone.

If I manage to make it all the way up there I can usually squeeze out a victory against dad with a horrible build by being patient. So the pact for tight deadline is a little more anxiety ridden for me.

I usually only have like 14-20 minutes by the time I make it up there to dig up the dogfood and kick dad in the cankles.

Hey speaking of Guan Yu builds an all I should really put us back on track for story discussion and I was wondering, if the hidden aspects are supposed to be fated forms of the weapons except like, Gilgamesh and maybe Lucifer which had already happened(?)... does their existence open up the possibility of other civilization's having their own afterlives and pantheons that the Olympians and Cthonic gods don't associate with yet or like an alternate sort of cosmic sphere with alternate equivalents to themselves?

I know Hades made some offhand comment about maybe Gilgamesh is somewhere in Elysium bereft of his claws thanks to us but I think he was being flippant and Gilgamesh is not actually present in the Greek afterlife despite it being the only afterlife explicitly mentioned in-game and despite the codex sort of implying that Greece has the only entrance to the afterlife, not discounting the possibility that the codex being "written" by Achilles it would be the only afterlife he knows about?

Zag's conversations with Nyx and Skelly and Hades about them kind of imply that they are visions of the Fates where some form of the weapon ends up in the hands of some other legendary figure, but Gilgamesh and Lucifer would probably predate them and are there for like past-aspects of them or alternate timeline aspects of them?

Which would mean that in the mythological sphere of history that the Titans were still mucking about while Gilgamesh was trying to run stuff over in Mesopotamia, heh.

there is a lot of content past that point (the exact amount depends on how many runs it took you to get Persephone, and therefore how much of the content that can be done before that you've already done), and there is a specific main quest goal to accomplish, but if by sidequests you mean like completing the various NPCs' personal arcs, i would say that is all part of "the story"

I really feel like the harder version of hades can get some unfair hits on you, not a 100% since I've only fought him once but in the last phase some hits with the spear throw felt unavoidable

he went offscreen so you can't see the wind up pose for the throw and the spear is p unreactable once he throws it, is there a sound cue for that?
