Zagreus' hamartia (or in this case, the reverse of hamartia, him being from the land of the dead) is the stubbornness with which he continues to make his way out, each time bringing with him pomegrenates that would hopefully tether Persephone to the underworld, while telling her that death will reunite her with her family inevitably. Except each time he climbs out he brings Demeter closer and closer to her, until Demeter finds Persephone and curses the pomegrenates while they're within her reach on the surface such that Persephone gets washed into infinite chaos instead of the structured underworld proper, where Hades can't find her. Thereafter, Zagreus continues fighting through the underworld with the objective of exploring infinitely many chaos gates hoping to find Persephone while Hades ruminates on the nature of infinite existence in death and how he's closer to mortals than to his godly relatives, given his condemnation to the underworld. ||
