locked heart basically means there's some sort of plot related thing to do in order to unlock it
most of them can be done naturally by just playing the game, growing bonds, and getting through all the dialogue
though if you really want to know how to unlock a specific heart you can find it in the wiki or ask about it here

plus on high heats where you hav 0 healing its pretty much the easiest way to get back health

oh and also on high heats regular enemy encounters can be as dangerous if not moreso than bosses so having whats essentially one death defiance to use every room is valuable

@stray cloud there are two ways to learn patroclus's name. Either Achilles will mention it, or by reading this codex entry (keep in mind the codex in it's entirety was written by Achilles) Zagreus will remark about how he now knows Patroclus's name

Some modern adaptations of Greek myth seem... not to like Greek myths. They bend too much, and for little reason beyond 'the story needs it', so important figures get twisted so much they have no resemblance to their sources. I felt that SGG had a real appreciation for the sources. I loved seeing their take on things and... I want moooooore xDD
