It's quite clear from their wording - if a certain character is explicitly mentioned in their text, then it can be expected that they will react if you fulfill the prophecy. There are exceptions, but you get the idea.

One important thing about that prophecy is that you need to use both Death Defiance and Stubborn Defiance from among the mirror talents.
That's because Touch of Styx and Kiss of Styx are mutually exclusive.
Each is tied to one of the two types of defiances.

@wanton sigil Depending on whether or not you are about to unlock certain aspects or game upgrades, the game might seed a god at the start of your run (and the game tends to give you more choices to take a god that you took early on).
So, for example, if you start a run and its the run where the game decides to unlock fishing for you, it'll seed Poseidon at the start and, as a result, make it so that Poseidon appears more often (and therefore Ares less often).

Heart locks on aphrodite and zeus? I thought zeus aspect on aegis would unlock the latter, i am guessing i have to max out all bonds with everyone, or just dusa for the former?

for aphro you indeed need to max out dusa + than or meg. for zeus you need to pick demeter boons when you have his boon and pick his boon while you have demeter's and eventually you will get prompt to talk to hades too. it takes multiple random convos to unlock his lock this way.

Do you ever feel like this game is missing an arena mode? Transistor, Pyre, and Bastion all had one.

I just feel like you can get a really good build going and then your run ends without really testing its limit.
Maybe after the ||Hades|| boss we'll have a 'fight til you die' arena against ||whatever keeps you underground||? that'd be cool. Heat adds a lot of replay value, but on some level it would be nice to have something like the dream stages we had in Bastion.
