I think the shield is way too good in the last fight. Was very anticlimatic to get good builds with bow, sword and gun and still be bested by the Hades 2nd phase, and then won easily with a shield, even having very bad boons honestly. You don't need anything with shield since you can just block everything and grate his hp away slowly with the bullrush.

Nowadays, I feel a lot of my confidence coming back to me. Though I have to say that I think that nobody plays the game more min-maxi than I do.

Just whooped Hades' ass without 4 last mirror upgrades (new save). Got probably the most OP thing: Ares+Artemis duo with Ares legendary and Ares dash. Only thing that would make it better is Hermes dash and cast. I didn't even basic attack in the fight.

He seems to do his spin more often in that phase for me, so keep an eye out for that. When the pots all spawn you can use the special to break a few from afar to clear a space for you to safely fight until he clears them all. With the lasers either be mindful of where he is when he starts them up so that you can find a good place to walk between them, or try and get on the far side of the rubble on the top right that seems to block them.

No worries! It's easy to get overwhelmed when all the pots show up and his skulls are flying around, especially when you're really close to winning.

I got to the Hades fight and died before I could learn anything about the fight. He did like 150 with a single attack? And what does the floating skull thing with the timer do?

The skulls are Hades' Cast. Unlike yours, they double the amount of damage a stuck target (i.e. Zagreus) takes. When those land on the ground (which they will every time even after popping out of you, minus Deflecting them), they count down from 5 to release that massive room-clearing shockwave.

Between those waves and the lasers in phase 2. The final fight sometimes reminds me of something like a bullet hell boss from Furi. Along with rooms full of Asphodel/Elysium witches.
Man, the dialogue for that fight is the best I've seen in this game filled with good writing. I've reached Hades 4 times now and each time the lead-up conversation was memorable and made it feel truly climactic. "I'll give you something to hate."
Also that line after beating him
"Tell her Cerberus is doing well" damn thats a bit of a tearjerker. Great, great stuff.

In the mythology, winter would always break out when Persephone wasn't in the outside world minding her business which is why Hades having her in the underworld all year was pretty bad for all parties involved.

Yes, that perception exists and with good reason imo. Aegis is considered to be the best weapon in the game in that it gives less experienced or talented players the best chance to complete the game. Consider the Shield's versatility. It works in close range or in long range. The Stygian Blade lacks a long-range ability so it sometimes requires a cast build for certain situations.

After some point, every random build becomes a doable build. Getting the last mirror upgrade lets you re random room choices before you enter. God keepsakes let you somewhat control the boons you get.

Shotgunning a high damage/Lightning Flourish volley is really the best way to make it work.
But again, that requires you to get in melee range AND wait for all the arrows to fire, which mostly requires Swift Flourish.

hmmmm you know I just had a fun/interesting thought. So after you beat Hades the first time and talk to him back in the House he says he doesnt even remember the fight. Now I have no idea what Supergiant are working on for the end but wouldnt it be a cool idea to actually work that into how you eventually beat the game? Like theres some bigger agenda of the gods and the Fates keeping Zagreus in Hell outside of Hades? So as you keep beating Hades and everything gets reset the bigger mystery starts to get revealed. Would help build up toward a final fight/ending relying on you building up Zagrious more and more through the rogue-like nature of the core gameplay loop, instead of just ending the game after defeating Hades for the first time.

there is practically no documentation on Zagreus as a mythological character besides the fact that he exists, which ironically makes him a perfect main character for Supergiant to create their narrative, because they get to use the mythology and develop their own protagonist without any pre-existing mythological implications
the only mythological interpretation is that in a couple myths Zagreus is implied to be Dionysus (I believe) which is why there's that whole Orpheus dialogue section

The most annoying kind of boss is the one that you drop their health bar down to nothing and they just stand up and the health bar goes all the way back to 100%. If you want the boss to have multiple phases and dialog in-between, that's all fine. But do it with a real health bar and make the phases occur at 75%/50%/25% (just like ALL the other bosses).

While I love how hard they've made the final fight on Hades, as he can potentially literally 1 shot you, I feel like the difficulty doesn't properly build up to him. Like pretty much every fight before Hades feels like a child's play in comparison. I'm not sure if that was the way that it was intended but I'd like to have the difficulty curve smoothed out a bit.
Again, I'm not saying they need to tone down Hades, this game really needed a hard boss fight and Hades feels like the only hard boss fight in the game and I don't find it enjoyable that the difficulty takes a rather sharp turn when it comes to him.

I was probable 75 runs in before Hades was released. I had to aim for the build that works for me best not just for dps but also for survival. Second time I fought him I managed to win.
Fighting Hades with pacts on... Is something i don't ever wanna think of. Those 2 statues will remain concealed forever.

I actually never got to see that conversation. Thanatoes and Hades were having a chat when I beat the game for the first time, and I wasn't able to actually talk with Hades despite the fact he still had the dialogue symbol above his head.

This has actually happened a few times to me as well, where it seems a "listen" conversations has replaced topical dialogue based on the recent run or recent developments
It's kind of expected though at the moment, with how much can happen or if you are breezing through the game faster than the game expects you to

The second phase is simpler imo because he loses his most annoying parts from the first part and exchanges them with harmless ones.
First fight, he stealthes, has two impervious periods and summons adds.

Okay I think i just ran into a heavy bug with the hades fight (2nd life bar)
I had charm and weak on both my dash and attack (shield) so it was charm for days, hades was being a pushover until he tried to summon his vases - HE DIDNT STOP SUMMONING THEM. I got stunlocked as he non-stop kept making vases and I couldn't do much to get away. It seemed like interrupting his vase making just got him into a loop of making vases... and I had 0 deaths that run too 😦
Also the way the game references the real-world mythology of Zagreus in this game is fantastic and appropriately hilarious

Is it normal for Hades to not destory the vases? I just had a fight where he would summon a set of vases and not follow up with that aoe, just move on to engaging, and I didn't really have an opportunity to back away and destroy the vases safely so it just screwed my heated run 😦

He usually does a shock wave after they appeared but I have seen him not do that as well at times.
Usually not a problem as long as you walk into a free patch of ground.

I'd say kill the minions just because they can get in your way pretty badly
If you have Artemis' marked status effect, leave them alive so you can get crits on Hades
Try to destroy his bloodstones before they explode
If you get hit and get the boiling blood status, though, just do everything you can to stay away from him until it wears off

also that lil cover space in top of screen is your friend!
Hades likes to go laser-show in his 2nd form, and most reliable is diving for cover (unless Athena blessed u with ALL the deflects)

the problem with speed increase is that even if you ignore how it makes bosses trickier, you'll likely be on far less health when you do get to a boss just because it'll be much harder to dodge all the little guys up until that point @solar cove

Best boi can be pet at any time, I'm pretty sure! If you have ambrosia in your inventory and he isn't at max hearts, the game will gift the ambrosia instead of petting, but once you've gifted him once per run, you should be able to pet?

You can gift Thanatos at the House too, I'm pretty sure? Unless that was changed while I wasn't looking. I don't think you can gift both in the field AND at the House, e.g. if you give him a gift in the field, you won't be able to gift a second time when he shows up at the House after that run.
