But then again some people find Transistor too opaque

So, maybe that's just me.

I find it a hard bet to integrate complex dialogue in a rogue like, to me rogue likes revolve around gameplay and stories are mostly told through environment. A game that intelligently inserted dialogues and a somewhat ~intricate~ (though told very simply) story was deadbolt where dialogue wasn't optional, but bits of story (tapes that you read) were optional but were also unlockables so there was interest in reading those : you unlocked it why wouldn't you at least want to know what it is ? For now I don't feel compelled to go talk to characters and obviously they can't tell much of the story right now but I hope we'll have more motivation in patches to come to look at the story and more interactions with the environment (such as in transistor)

so like a lot of what we know about zag is based off his experiences and knowledge, so while HES sure that his father’s against him and his mother’s alive and wants to see him, we as objective viewers realise it’s probably not quite that simple

the way he views his journey even, as ‘escape attempts’ is proof of his biased view of where he is and what he’s doing

for him, the underworld is a prison. and his father is the warden.

whether or not that’s true in the grand scheme of things is yet to be seen, but I’d like to see more expanding on how zag views the underworld and the people around him. one thing I’ve especially wondered about is if he ever intends to return, and if not, is there no one he’ll miss in the underworld?

does he feel guilt for leaving Cerberus? nyx? Achilles? is he afraid of how they’ll suffer hades wrath if he succeeds in his escape?

Honestly i think the decision to have the codices be 1) in a POV at all, and 2) in zag's mentor's POV was interesting regardless
the last lessons he's trying to impart, and a window into what he's maybe already tried to teach Zag, or at least a window into one of the people who seriously contributed to zag's upbringing

the Olympian gods pity and find him stand offish and rude, somewhat ungrateful even, dusa sees him as the only one who’d employ her and I suspect feels indebted to him, hence why she works so hard, meg is an employee who works hard, nyx is an affectionate mother but still conflicted about her son, Cerberus is the loyal dog, Achilles sees him as a regal king and worthy of sympathy, and there’s others I won’t get into lmao

all of these people have different versions of hades in their heads, but we’ve yet to see which is the most faithful to his actual character, if any at all

which is why I’m curious as to Persephones opinion of him. I think out of anyone she’d be the one to know him best

Hades is stuck in tartarus forever, of course other gods would mock him. I hope we get to see more of the angry/vindicative/mischevious gods. Love how achilles trashes on poseidon in the codex

despite that, hades clearly cares for her, or at least DID at some point, by how vehemently he demands zagreus not speak of her, and keeping her note close to him. if he’s truly resented her or hated her, I imagine he’d have torn it up or disposed of it

and despite her leaving they WERE married at some point. the tone of her note sounds almost apologetic and regretful to me, and her leaving a note at all suggests she at least wanted hades to know where she’d gone, rather than just leave without a word
