It doesn't continue automatically without player input. You need to press the Attack button for each strike.

Depends on the aspect but it’s best to get really used to the moveset and attack whenever you get an opening, if you’re using EM there is a lot of area denial so it’s about patience and timing your hits right, clean hits will get you a lot more than unnecessary movement
