I see it differently.

1st bop is either a flash or none.
If no flash on 1st bop - the rest come in "groups", as I call them, with gaps in between. First bop in a "group" is always a dud. After that, it's either a flash (so be ready) or nothing. If nothing (large time gap) - wait for the next bop to start a group.

The rest is just down to reaction time.

Start fishing:

1st bop can either be a dud or a flash. If flash - reaction time for perfect. If not - groups start.

1st bop in 1st group is 100% a dud.
2nd bop can either be a dud or a flash, so be ready. If flash - great. If nothing happens for a while (longer than normal after a bop) - another "group" starts.

Same principle for "group" 2. 1st bop is a dud, second can/will be a flash, so be ready.

For the record, my reaction time is absolute garbage. I just learned to ignore the bobber altogether and just pay attention to the flash. But I've also used patterns to know exactly when to expect the flash or not.

I’d recommend Poseidon (sword) if you can’t figure the sword out, as it’s a cast weapon. Otherwise, Nemesis adds crits so it’s already good.
Achilles is a good spear aspect, but Hades isn’t bad.
Both shield ones are good but Chaos needs leveled up to be felt.
Same for Chiron, my personal favorite aspect, and Hera is quite good without being leveled up.
Both Talos and Demeter are good fist aspects, but Demeter is more standard and easy to learn.
Eris is fantastic, and while Hestia is great, it does have a learning curve if you forget reloading is a thing.

Basically, try everything and see what you like.

Zeus aid is great when paired with billowing. But if I can choose I prefer artemis aid because it can be activated quicker

Your spin attack will continously deflect, so Divine Strike is really good on Guan Yu.
