I dislike them too, but charging bullrush and spamming poisoned special shield throws over and over to poison the whole room is pretty much like cheating

dog collar (cerberus) and lucky tooth (skelly) are both available early and provide good benefits, but I find they're mostly obsoleted by mirror upgrades later

recently i found that blitz disc + ares +200% damage after you kill an enemy is really strong cuz every hit on your blitz disc will do that +200% until you call it back

Especially since you are damage immune from the front with the shield whilst you charge, makes it easier to get off

I just had a run with spear, my dash had shields, I could dash 4 times in a row, my attack had shield, and it was just funny xddd

and if you manage to get a crit throw, seems like every hit will do crit damage until you call it back too

the keepsakes I use the most are the god keepsakes in the first two areas, to tilt the RNG towards specific builds that I want to do
sisyphis's shackle for elysium, because the traps regen and do lots of damage, it's very useful there
and patroclous's broken spearpoint for styx, because styx is mostly multiple hit attacks and the invuln on hit makes a lot of otherwise scary things much easier to deal with

Oh, and sometimes Hypno's coinpurse if I've already got the gods that I want in the first or second area

That's pretty much the way I play too

One of the first things I did when I played though was to taken the charron keepsake and spend all my gold on temp buffs

and I'd just have them stacked up for the whole run almost

It's something like +9 rooms, actually pretty nice

tho it took me a long time to ever use any of the god boons

the NPCs give you bonuses and there are no badguys and you progress certain storylines that way

gold helps you only during your run, but is very useful imo. but early on, i'd say go for... well, gems, darkness, keys are all useful early on for various unlocks/upgrades

even nectars too, if you don't have all the keepsakes yet

i'd say stop by the contractor and the mirror between every run and decide what you want to try to unlock/upgrade next, that should help you decide what to go for during your run

@fading pilot you have to talk to a bunch of people to unlock the ability to buy out sisyphis's punishment contract
it's back and forth between mag and hades, IIRC
just talk to everyone with exclamation points over their heads and you'll get it eventually

I wouldn't trade diamonds for ambrosia

i would trade ambrosia for titan blood

Chaos Shield + Dionysius keepsake in tartarus, get poison special ASAP

then aphrodite on attack or dash

aphro keepsake in asphodel if necessary, otherwise coinpurse

weak + poison has great synergy, you get privileged status damage boost without any passive boons and do big damage over time while taking less damage, not to mention the aphro/dio duo boon

but it does increase the rarity of offered boons, so if you're specifically looking for the defiance boon it's useful

i'd probably get the starting health first, because 50 starting health is harsh. then uh get Provileged Status because +50% damage if you apply two status effects to someone is amazing

right, then those mirror unlocks. Going from 50 to 100 health is amazing. Then you can get +50% damage if an enemy is afflicted by 2 or more status ailments(this is the true power of dash attacks)

then uh there's another one that gives up to 100 coin on starting that's nice too

I don't want to actually say anything too scathing about the game though. The developers have literally given all we could ask for in this circumstance: functional early access, addictive gameplay, a surprisingly detailed story, quality voice acting, and a consistent and transparent update schedule. This is more than I expect from publishers like EA or Ubisoft, so I don't want to seem like they cut corners.

Also, if you take Adamant Arrowhead at some point during a run (you almost always should with Poseidon), you drastically increase the chances of getting Exit Wounds, which absolutely destroys enemies with Poseidon's ability to force Bloodstone drops.

Even without taking advantage of the other half of the ability

just had an interesting stygian blade run. i was hoping for exit wounds but even though i saw artemis 6 times she never offered it. i ended up with attack crit, the homing shot on attack/special/cast, 3 extra cast ammo, homing/crit cast and extra crit damage, and got the hammer upgrades for fast attack and the shockwave. even without exit wounds it did really well

Zeus lightning hits once per enemy per use of attack/special

it can sometimes be hard to tell whether it'll count as a separate attack or not
for example, Zeus aspect shield ticks count as separate attacks, so each spin of the shield will proc a separate lightning strike
but the extra Chaos shields after bull rush don't count as separate attacks so you only get one lightning proc even if all 6 shields hit the same enemy
as a general rule, if you think it would be a really massive amount of burst damage, zeus lightning won't work like that
