I reached Hydra once and beat it once. It was a good fight all in all, but my damage output by then was a bit low, which made other aspects of the fight some trouble.

I have noticed that buffing one ability tends to have a pretty OP result. If I focus on buffing a cast ability for example, casts become insanely strong.

Yeah, the tanky nature of enemies requires at least one very strong ability to take down the armor.
Anything that can kill fast is ideal when you're on the death boat near the end of Asphodel and its dropping armored enemies left and right with other enemies popping shields while having armor of their own.

Boat is good or bad depending on your damage output, basically. Not a lot of room to maneuver, so you can either kill things quickly enough or you're gonna have a bad time.

I'm not real big on the no range sword or the all range bow. The spear and shield offer the best attack balance and although I had decent luck with the bow, it has a fair few drawbacks that make it difficult to use, particularly in crowded situations that force reaction at short range.

I imagine that if I hit one of those after I get a Zeus upgrade to make my cast bounce, it'd be better
but my last run had numbskulls as literally door #2
I like the shield the most but my best run died in the first Asphodel room because the shield flew off into the sunset and I was disarmed constantly
(I was going for a bounce build)

She is really easy once you get her patterns now
