Using keepsakes to force in your first and second ideal gods in tartarus and asphodel goes along way, using fated persuasion to get the boons you want from hermes, chaos, purging pools, wells and olympians is a huge level of control. Good utilisation of purging pools lets you put poms on the boons you want, and have extra money for shops to get more stuff. Making sure to make wise decisions at every fork (ie. I’d rather not have demeter for a Merciful End build because she’ll open stubborn roots and get in the way of finding Merciful End) or “I’m going to take chaos since he’s rather inconsistent compared to obols and hearts” is also important. Planning what you take from each god is also really important, you might end up taking x from artemis just so you won’t open splitting headache by accident on a dio build. Overall you have pretty great control.

P.S. you can only have 4 olympians (sans Hermes) in yohr god pool at a time bar forcing more in (or other situational cases) so you stay careful to which ones you let in for more control.
