Started Nemesis run, skipped Ares and Athena in favor of Chaos Gate (just did an ME run before, wanted something else), next up: Dionysus peddling Hangover Attack/Special/Dash hard, rerolls are not helping. Took Hangover Attack, having resigned myself to a pathetic struggle and an early death (Hangover can work on the sword, but Nemesis wants direct damage). Midshop, buy a pom for my Hangover Attack, buy a random discount god, lo and behold, Aphrodite offering a sweet, sweet Heroic-level Attack replacement! With no other core boons in my kit! Wonder what were the chances of that 🤔

Finally discovered Steam Input and the gamepad customization that it allows, figured I'd share. In case someone didn't know, Steam hooks up to your gamepad and enables more functionality. By default it adds OS-level controls that work while holding the system button, and you can enable Steam Input for specific gamepad types and games, allowing additional customization for those games. For many gamepad types, you can redefine the functionality of any button, joystick, etc., and you can define actions of arbitrary complexity, basically macros. Which can be useful for Hades. For example, I found it useful to define a button that rapid-spams the Attack action, which can be convenient for Sword and Spear (like built-in Flurry Jab). Another useful macro is to shoot and almost immediately reload, which significantly improves Hestia ergonomics. In fact, both of those things work on the same button. Highly recommended. Share other tricks if you got any!

Another useful trick I found is to assign my global CheatEngine hotkeys to some gamepad buttons/combinations. I use speedhacks to fast-forward unskippable cutscenes, and with Steam Input tweaks, I can now do that purely on the gamepad, which is very convenient

Well for starters, Lazers is best with Stygian Soul, as you can usually have more than 3 lazers on the field at once with that anyway.
Then, the math on whether to take additional bloodstones or percent damage is actually quite straight-forward: +1 bloodstone when you already have 3 is +1/3 dmg, so a %-bonus that is more than 33% is better. (This is not the case for all cast builds, as spreading out the damage is sometimes more useful, but it's always the case for lazers since they deal DPS instead of burst damage)

there is a mirror upgrade that gives you extra lives. It goes up to 3, and you can get a chaos legendary boon that is a 4th

Skelly's keepsake also gives you a 4th. Keepsakes are a thing that come in later.

For the first while, there are in game upgrades that make zag stronger, while you also become better at the game.
