greek mythology is very old, it originated before the Bronze age, the "ancient greece" people think about when they think "ancient greece" is Hellenistic Greece but there where people living there before that period and the culture goes way back, during the bronze age there was a civilization called Mycenaean Greece that we don't know much about, their language was never translated and all sources are from outside, but we know they had a early version of the greek pantheon, Hades didn't exist, Poseidon was head god not Zeus and it likely originated somewhere around Phoenicia, this evolved into the Hellenistic Greece everyone knows about, but it there isn't a clear line between the two, the culture just morphs over time, one of these morphs was Orphism, a religion in pre socratic greece that was focused a lot on Dyonisus and the underworld, the greek mythos in Hades are based on Orphism, some evidence for that is the cosmic eggs Chaos gives you (it's part of the Theogony that is a orphic myth), some interactions with Dyonisus, and the fact the Trojan war is somewhat recent and it is set in Mycenaean Greece despite being written in Hellenistic Greece

Orphism is really interesting and is where Zagreus and Melinoe come from

the myths it mentions are mostly orphic myths

both, i already knew a bit about Mycenaean Greece before Hades but not about orphism, it lead me to look further
