Hmm.

#

This thread... the reasoning described does sound like ADD/ADHD to me, but it's not a personality trait that is exclusive to ADHD, by a long shot.

#

I have a friend who does the same and has BPD, not ADHD. Different reasons for similar behavior.

arctic basalt
#

this thread came at my adhd self hard tbh

faint panther
#

Part of the reason I'm an anti-natalist is because I've got ADHD, depression, and anxiety and I did none of these things to myself.

#

Also possibly autistic, but between being the quiet middle child with a raging hand grenade of a youngest sibling, a lot of my issues were passed because I was quiet in class and at home.

#

So now I'm like 60% non-functional as an adult. It's great and doesn't make me hate being alive at all.

#

Thanks, Kam. gilmanlove

tardy anchor
#

it can be a real treading water to try and function, i know 😔

autumn pasture
#

i'm in a similar boat. the good thing is that functioning is a learned skill, so we can all grow and improve friendly

hasty kernel
#

See the thing is, I do have issues with sitting still (or sitting in general, I kinda hate it) or focusing on one thing exclusively

#

But I chalked that up to me having been engulfed in the internet too much, to the point where I need a barrage of information or I get bored

#

But it could be ADHD

#

I should check that at some point

weary jacinth
#

is there a dedicated channel where I can report bugs I find ?

glass rover
#

press f10 ingame

weary jacinth
#

ah thanks

hasty kernel
#

F10

#

Not F12

#

But yes, press F10, and youll get the bug reporting screen

glass rover
#

there i corrected it

weary jacinth
#

keep getting asterius stuck in the lower right pillar and he doesnt respond

#

figured might as well report it

glass rover
#

also wtf is up with this chat ? circle jerk of complaining and victim mentality

opaque quail
#

Djee this is off-topic, people are allowed to find encouragement from others.

glass rover
#

but that's not encouragement the one guy just said he literally wants to kill himself

#

that person needs help

#

like medical help

tardy ore
#

Uh, no one said that 🤔

glass rover
#

"So now I'm like 60% non-functional as an adult. It's great and doesn't make me hate being alive at all." that's how i interpret it

#

atleast

#

hating being alive is akin to suicidal thoughts

tardy ore
#

That's called "overreading"

glass rover
#

well it's not something that should be supported

#

either

tardy ore
#

Also, wow, dude. And I thought I was rude and inconsiderate.

opaque quail
#

Let's move on from this, folks. While this is off topic and people are allowed to find support and encouragement, it's also not the place to offer or suggest medical advice.

glass rover
#

yeah might as well

opaque quail

If you feel genuinely concerned about a user, please don't hesitate to message me in the future, but this is not the appropriate place to make judgements about what others have to do for their health.

hasty kernel
#

Also damn, I feel like my german got worse to the point where I wouldnt feel confident applying as a community translator

#

And I still live in germany

#

Like just the sentence "In the name of someone very sore right now"

#

I have no idea how you would translate that to german

old aspen
#

I don't know how I would translate that into my native language either, without making it sound super awkward

hasty kernel
#

I mean the "in the name of" part still kinda works

#

But the second part really doesnt flow

faint panther
#

Surely there's a German word for "Someone who is very crotchety/sore about something right at this moment."

#

It's the language for goofy oddly-specific words like such.

hasty kernel
#

Shockingly, no, I cant think of such a word

faint panther
#

Now's the time, be the change you want to see in the world.

tardy ore
#

@hasty kernel I read your name as UN Oven a lot by mistake, on another note

#

Great. Now the concept of Flandre Scarlet as an oven haunts me.

hasty kernel
#

Instinctively I would translate it as "Im Namen von Jemandem dem Alles weh tut"

#

Which is something along the lines of "In the name of someone for whom everything hurts"

#

It does however slightly miss the meaning

#

Also its not a Touhou reference, its an Agatha Christie reference

#

I didnt even know Touhou at the time I chose my username

tardy ore
#

Well, it still evokes the notion of a touhou as an oven

faint panther
#

I didn't know "Flandre Scarlet" at first glance, so something tells me you've had this conversation before. shadesmile

hasty kernel
#

Yes. Yes I have

#

More times than I can count

#

I think 2 people asked me if it was an Agatha Christie reference

#

I was so happy when they did

tardy ore
#

Alternatively, a murder mystery where the culprit is an oven.

#

The point was, I keep misreading it as oven.

faint panther
#

Like, a sentient oven?

hasty kernel
#

Well technically this version would be pronounced as Ovven

#

Or Oven

#

So yknow, fair point

#

Anyway I should read more in german

#

Before I lose all prowess of the language

tardy ore
#

I mean, maybe. It could be alive. Or just left on way too long.

So, how do Australians survive the summer? My friend said “just like that” but like, do you have tricks??

#

30-50 Celsius with 50-80% humidity

#

If it’s just cold it’s possible to wear more or use heating but how do you live in what’s basically a steamer?

hexed hollow
#

30 to 35 isn't too bad, anything above 40 is stay inside where the air con is

#

the humidity varies quite a lot, some days it's manageable others it's the worst and cold showers don't do anything to help

#

but in short air con is kinda a must during summer or death happens

#

the humidity is particularly bad today because we've just have a few days of nonstop rain

north hamlet
#

Yeah that

#

Air conditioning tends to have drying as well

tardy ore
#

Philippines here. 100% humidity gang

north hamlet
#

On cooler days fans and light clothing plus staying away from sunlight

#

Oof

#

How hot does it get up there?

tardy ore

Yes

#

Jk

But 34-36?

Sometimes higher

Similar to northern aus then

#

Tropics are scary

hexed hollow
#

yeah, I've heard in Darwin you have a shower, as soon as you walk outside you need a shower again it's that humid

north hamlet
#

We're basically having tropical winter here

#

As you go up it gets hotter and wetter, as you go south it's cooler and drier

#

Tasmania is pretty mild

#

It's also pretty dry around adelaide even in hotter weather

#

It also gets hotter and drier as you go inland

#

So around alice springs will often be 40 to 50 C

#

There's some weird microclimate shenanigans in sydney too

hexed hollow

Tasmania is pretty nice :3

Ideally we would go halfsies

But I'd prefer it as someone who's fairly cold tolerant

sudden torrent
#

I am cold tolerant too, but I much hate how runny my noise gets

#

Or how I have to wear gloves outside.

wide ember
#

is it because minus 10 Celcius isn't cold enough to remove most cold germs or because it's just the coldness to make your nose dry and cold so your body tries to heat it up and hydrate the nose?

tardy ore
#

Ori and the Blind Forest for Lots% off, Dead Cells for 30% off, worth picking up now?

sudden torrent

Second probably. Because indoors I usually rarely sneeze unless it's spring or Autumn.

tardy ore
#

Man, I wonder why Transistor Extended isn't in the soundtrack list though?

autumn pasture

it might count as a dlc?

tardy ore
#

Oh, it was just snuck in unofficially as a free update to soundtrack owners

#

Just... it hasn't been converted to Steam's new soundtrack format yet

#

Ah right. I also have Hollow Knight and Monster Hunter World soundtracks.

oh, I do have to get Dead Cells' OST though

tardy ore

Roguelites... well, Children of Morta is Hadeslike but slower. Dead Cells is on sale right now o'clock and has many fans.

#

Rogue Legacy, the old school classic, still pretty good

I love this game - Anyone got recommendations for more roguelikes/lites?

autumn pasture

i've been playing the flame in the flood

#

it's pretty good

tardy ore

I like Dungeon of the Endless, turn based ish, not for everyone but it's fun

By this game you mean hades and not one of the other three?

autumn pasture

it's less of a combat game and more of survival

tardy ore

classic roguelike style - Tangledeep, Tales of Maj' Eyal

FTL

Dungeons of Dredmor!

Crying Suns, but it's basically FTL, but you control a fleet instead of one ship.

I've played RoR and FTL, Enter the Gungeon, Binding of Isaac, RoR2

#

@north hamlet sorry yeah, Hades

#

Although I have also played a bit of Bastion

autumn pasture
#

i've just started flame in the flood! i like it so far

#

post apocalyptic americana is good

tardy ore
#

Anyone played Dead Cells?

sudden torrent
#

good luck dealing with all the diseases and animals!

tardy ore
#

Wondering if I should pull the trigger or not

sudden torrent
#

Yes I have, but I never gone through a successful run beyond zero cells. :/

tardy ore
#

Was it worth

sudden torrent
#

it is, but if you are up to play the game, expect it to be quite heavy on platforming and 2D fighting, it needs a precise timing and strategizing, part of it is also like in Hades, you buy upgrades by clearing zones and then spending the cells thingy in shop, however, if you die, you don't get the stuff back, you need to redeem them at checkpoints.

#

Though honestly Flames in the Flood is good, but do I wish the river system wasn't so annoyingly scary when controlling it.

tardy ore
#

Well, is it significantly harder than Hades...

sudden torrent
#

definitely harder I suppose? Honestly depends what weapons you also run (yes there is this one thing about it that it has its own thing with weapons) though if I am not wrong there are mods out in steam workshop for easier experience.

mellow token
#

I've played Dead Cells. It's super good. Got quite far as well. Might pick it up again

north hamlet
#

I'm personally fond of the roguelites crypt of the necrodancer, heroes of hammerwatch and one way heroics

tardy ore
#

Oh yeah, Necrodancer!

#

Hard if you're bad at timing like me, but great, and amazing soundtrack

#

On another note, not roguelike/lite at all, but should I get DMC5

north hamlet
#

Heroes of hammerwatch is probably closest to hades of the three

mellow briar
#

The roguelite that makes me think of Hades the most is Forced Showdown

#

Also tied with Asura

faint panther
#

I'll say you lose just a little from DMC5's story without having played 3 and 4, but it's arguably the best hack'n'slash ever made.

sudden torrent

That rpg somewhat reminds me of romancelike? Roguemance? Basically was a little game where you share a controller with someone and play through the game by cooperating with the move set and thinking through each other's decision. Very small game, but very good none the less.

autumn pasture
#

aw, that does sound interesting

sudden torrent
#

Came out like 3 years ago on Valentine's Day for 2-3 dollars I think.

tardy ore
#

damn, nice

sudden torrent
#

It's only problem I suppose is how it's stretched and doesn't have many varieties and replayability, but I suppose the stretch was done for balance purposes and so that people couldn't just buy and the refund the game after doing one full run. Dunno honestly.

autumn pasture
#

ah yes, the classic steam short game exploit

tardy ore
#

🧀

faint panther
#

Anyone know how I can launch Steam games from my Desktop without actually opening Steam?

#

I'd love to play Dead Cells without this bloatware, but it's just not as sleek as the EGS.

tardy ore
#

Uh... EGS sleek?

faint panther
#

Yeah, I buy my game, update it once in a blue moon, and never touch it besides.

#

Steam and Origin won't let me run their games without opening them.

tardy ore
#

that's not sleek, that's avoidable clunk.

sudden torrent
#

Can go offline mode, but that's all that you can do I think. Don't know any other means.

faint panther
#

I'm being partially facetious because I think elitism about launchers is absolutely absurd, but I'd actually like to run my games without opening the launcher.

#

Thank you, @sudden torrent

tardy ore
#

"elitism"?

#

nice assumption 👌

sudden torrent
#

That will just practically disable it however. It will still run, just at lowest amount.

faint panther
#

The first line was facetious, and I wasn't attacking you specifically.

tardy ore
#

Remember when Steam was a lightweight godsdamn native app?

faint panther
#

No, actually. It's been clunky ever since I started gaming on PC in 2013.

tardy ore
#

I mean clunky to navigate yeah. But it didn't consume nearly as many system resources back when it wasn't rendering 80% of the UI as a webpage.

faint panther
#

So, what, it's intentional design flaw that makes it run poorly?

tardy ore
#

No, it's laziness and ineptitude

#

App developers code in Chromium because it's braindead easy.

#

But, as the million memes about Chrome can attest, Chromium as a platform is a disgusting resource hog.

faint panther
#

So, yes, EGS is more sleek currently. Less features, maybe, but so much less clunk that it's made a difference in my gaming experience.

tardy ore
#

The thing is, EGS is coded the same way.

faint panther
#

And yet it lets me play my games without having it execute.

sudden torrent
#

Honestly, I did wish Steam wasn't so heavy to say the least, but not really a problem for me, for now. Has EGS yet released a 2FA or what was the name of function? Because that's what keeps me away from it mostly I suppose.

tardy ore
#

The only advantage is not having to run it, yes

faint panther
#

That's all I use Steam for.

tardy ore
#

as I said: Avoidable clunk

faint panther
#

I'm missing your point, apparently.

#

I use Steam to play games, and its inability to let me play them without hogging resources is an issue for me.

#

EGS lets me play my games without hogging resources.

north hamlet
#

Egs does have 2fa now @sudden torrent

sudden torrent
#

Oh cool. May try it out

north hamlet
#

It does have no drm and free games

tardy ore
#

Yeah, that does not make it a sleek program

north hamlet
#

If that helps with any other security concerns

tardy ore
#

That makes it a bloated program that doesn't have to run in the background, which I suppose is an upside

#

That said, if you close down Steam and set your friend list to offline and close THAT window, it helps significantly.

north hamlet
#

It kinda has the same effect, so it's something

faint panther
#

Yeah, so less sleek. Takes more steps to get where I'm trying to go.

north hamlet
#

The new friends thing is pretty wasteful when most people use discord on the side

faint panther
#

Alright, thanks, @sudden torrent, guess I'll just keep dealing for now.

north hamlet
#

Nice as it is

tardy ore
#

Saying it's sleek implies the launcher itself is coded well, though.

#

Completely different

faint panther
#

No it doesn't.

#

I means it works more smoothly.

#

Stop putting words in my mouth to fit your ideas. Please.

tardy ore
#

What?

#

Why are you so defensive?

#

It's like you want to pick a fight for no reason.

faint panther
#

I asked for help with a technical problem and then you butted in to correct my language.

tardy ore
#

Holy crap.

#

Okay, if you're that easily offended, feel free to ignore the suggestion I made which also actively cuts down on the program's resource use, just to pursue your excuse to get mad.

sudden torrent
#

My only concern could be though the "selling data" part that been running around but never fully explained to me properly with some stuff, but I suppose since it wasn't said in a while it's not much of concern or really not truthful at least fully.

tardy ore
#

Well, everyone sells data nowadays.

#

Only way to avoid that is to have no accounts.

#

My only concern is Epic Games' business practices, its particularly underhanded way of securing exclusives.

faint panther
#

Big upfront paychecks?

tardy ore
#

Don't really care about anything else, it's just objectively as badly coded as Steam otherwise, and the China scare is mostly just racism.

#

Upfront paychecks, refusing to carry indie games that DON'T take the exclusivity deal, and bulldozing over Kickstarter promises to have Steam keys.

faint panther
#

You've got me on the last one, I didn't know about that.

tardy ore
#

Supergiant is one of the few devs who are unequivocally in the clear

#

Because they didn't go back on any promise, they were launching on EGS from the start.

#

👌

#

But, #2: DARQ's dev was offered exclusivity. He said no, and asked if he could launch his game non-exclusively. He was refused, despite the company taking on high profile games cross-platform.

#

"Take the deal or your game isn't on our store" isn't a cushy deal for devs, that's strong-arming.

faint panther
#

It's one storefront.

tardy ore
#

The latter? Uh. Lots. Many many games.

#

Shenmue 3...

#

is just the most pathetic, because it's an overfunded piece of trash

faint panther
#

"Take the deal or your game doesn't launch" is strongarming.

tardy ore
#

but also, stuff like Metro Exodus being preorder on steam and yoinking out

#

I mean, it's a lesser degree, but it is still blatantly unfair

#

Because clearly they have no issue carrying other games non-exclusively

faint panther
#

Other games have more market power.

#

I'm not looking to steal people's shirts out from them, but if I were to run a business I would want to make money.

#

This isn't any different from Sony paying for Bloodborne exclusivity, but we all still played it when we could.

tardy ore
#

They'd still... make money, though

#

They don't lose money from signing a normal deal to sell a game

#

also, console exclusivity is a horrible practice.

faint panther
#

If they want to prioritize curation for bigger draws, that's their business prerogative.

tardy ore
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

faint panther
#

Games aren't entitled to sell on every launcher, and again, I want to emphasize that it's a separate launcher on the same system.

tardy ore
#

I don't think it's aboveboard. It's legal, but it's not fair play

faint panther
#

It wasn't like myself buying a Switch to play Mario Kart.

#

I installed another singular program to get access to Hades.

sudden torrent
#

Alright suppose will go EGS for the games then, It's been really hard for me to consider it actually viable due to how hard hitting were the "EGS is bad" stuff back in the day, been lacking a proper explanation and view on it.Though I have been thinking the EGS hate was getting tiring after the summer definitely. Thanks for the discussion on it.

faint panther
#

Thank you.

tardy ore
#

At the time Hades came out though it didn't have regional pricing - not an option for me.

#

I don't have any hateboner nonsense for it

#

I just don't like them, personally, as a corporation

faint panther
#

No corporation is good.

sudden torrent
#

I seen people there and there saying some stuff about how EGS was good, but I wasn't really convinced due to that mob feeling I have possible gotten carried over or the fact the people who have been saying good things about it quite frankly one time weren't exactly so good with their words or were as mean as the egs hate discussion stuff.

tardy ore
#

Well, that was a very obvious statement to make

sudden torrent
#

Yes, hello, I am Mr. Obvious

#

I like to say obvious stuff yes.

tardy ore
#

not you, schpoon's "corpos bad" is pretty water-is-wet

faint panther
#

Your unspoken defense of Steam in the same sentence is pretty damning.

earnest pier
#

I say come to your own conclusions by using either one

tardy ore
#

"unspoken defense"

#

see, you're reading things that aren't there into everything I say again

faint panther
#

Steam is okay by your own usage of them, but the EGS isn't.

sudden torrent
#

sweating oh, well still. I get that a lot that I say pretty obvious stuff.

earnest pier
#

Going on mob mentality will make you miss out on many things based on fear

faint panther
#

They've both got their problems.

tardy ore
#

@earnest pier I don't really care for mob opinions.

#

I thought the overblown rage against the Epic store was... thoroughly pointless.

chilly briar
#

hey now, obvious or not, reiterated points have their place. As for EGS, it has many problems to solve and a competitive mature market to enter, but the support it offers developers to get off the ground with new products is something we all benefit from in the long run.

earnest pier
#

True true, I really do think that's the beauty of their deals is they are able to help games get a running start

tardy ore
#

@chilly briar Their place is not assuming someone said something they didn't and arguing against that.

sudden torrent
#

Yeah definitely, previously I just didn't feel like it was mob feeling, but like after it gone to ridiculous stuff I just became very apparent of it.

tardy ore
#

For someone who claims to hate having words put in their mouth...

faint panther
#

This entire discussion was spurred from "EGS does something better than Steam, can I improve Steam to work like that?" and I had to get around "How dare you praise the EGS" to get technical advice.

tardy ore
#

See what I mean?

#

I didn't say any such thing.

chilly briar
#

There is definitely a large group of people that are strongly against EGS and the exclusivity, but it's a small price to pay for helping these things grow, and in most cases the titles spread to other platforms after the timed exclusivity is up anyway.

tardy ore
#

I feel like the words I am putting on the screen are completely different from the words you are reading.

earnest pier
#

But it just feels bad to wait rooSlam i want gaems now

chilly briar
#

valid

tardy ore
#

I say what I mean, and mean what I say. I don't screw around with such nonsense insinuations.

tardy ore
#

Okay, what part of the conversation did I say "how dare you praise EGS" in?

#

Quote it.

#

Right now.

faint panther
#

I admit I escalated, but it took a third person entering the conversation to turn it back to technical advice.

tardy ore
#

I GAVE you technical advice for making Steam less bollocks.

#

You ignored it to attack me again.

It would have been significantly funnier for the Shadow Broker to be a dog. That is to say, a Shadow Borker

earnest pier

I will say I should have picked Kaidan over Ashley, cause man does her racism just feel so out of place in the rest of the games

tardy ore
#

Eeeh

#

I always thought Kaidan was boring

faint panther
#

Ashley's never made it off Virmire.

Better boring than racist.

In the first game yeah, but he gets way better in 3

I think she gets better if you actually go through her arc.

...dad cells

#

that sounds like a hades crossover

I do have a few single player games I need to run through thonk

tardy ore

At least I now have warframe cosplays, so even when I'm not playing Hades, I can play Hades. 4Head

earnest pier

I am like 17% from 100% Far Cry 4

tardy ore

well, that's not exactly a far cry from completing it fully

#

100%ing Ubisoft games is infuriating though.

#

Just... ugh.

#

The obsessive collector in me wants to do it, every other part hates that it's even a thing

earnest pier
#

Well they make the process of it somewhat worth it since certain guns are only available if you do a majority of the side stuff

tardy ore
#

Yeah, it's just that the Ubi formula of SO MUCH BUSYWORK is psychologically designed to screw me over

sudden torrent
#

I think only Far Cry was successful at least making it fun.

tardy ore
#

Eh, not really.

#

Some ACs were actually okay about it

sudden torrent

sudden torrent

tardy ore
#

AC3 in general is just...

#

Why is so much of this game the tutorial?

earnest pier
#

Black Flag was fun but i think that's because of the pirate aesthetic for me

tardy ore
#

And yet, it had the rope dart, the single most fun tool in the series

#

yeah same degen

#

pirates good

earnest pier
#

Getting upgrades by exploring was hella fun

sudden torrent
#

I think only thing that generally didn't stick well with black flag is the ship stealth missions

earnest pier

most days when I grind out side stuff I was listening to podcasts

sudden torrent

who came up with such

tardy ore
#

rofl yeah why does a ship have to sneak

tardy ore
#

You know what kinda open world with collectibles was super fun?

#

Okami

#

(Capcom knows it. They milk that game to death)

#

sadly since Clover's demise and Capcom's continued ownership of the IP, Platinum Games can't make a sequel.

autumn pasture
#

what's the gameplay like on okami? it's one of those big indie games i haven't played

tardy ore
#

Zeldaish

#

amusingly not indie, it was made by a Capcom subsidiary that dissolved and reformed independently as Platinum (Clover Studios)

#

It's like Zelda, but with a magic paintbrush, and you're a wolf

#

and also the sun goddess

#

Lots of ways to mix up combat with different weapon types, RPG elements, exploration and discovery

#

little puzzles everywhere, like 80% of the world is interactive in some way with your powers, collectibles and things.

#

style kills exist, other fun stuff

autumn pasture
#

hdsjdshjf, i see, not indie

#

is it worth playing?

tardy ore
#

absolutely

#

like I said it's still one of the finest Zeldalikes ever made, a classic

autumn pasture
#

hahah is zeldalike a genre now? i wasn't aware

tardy ore
#

Yeah, it's like, the Dark Souls of Zelda, you know? /s

#

Hmm. Dead Cells... died at 113 minutes in game, but like 50 of that was paused.

#

Do I keep it...

It's fun to start with but man am I bad at it.

@tardy ore sorry I’m a bit late, but I deleted the wolfendoom twitter link because that picture had swears in it! Please don’t post images with swears, as we keep a clean language in the server

tardy ore
#

oh right. I forgot about that.

sharp grail
#

also, are we recommending games?

#

because hey..... pathologic 2 has a GOOD plot...... and it’s also on gamepass if that’s relevant to you

#

it’s called that but it’s not actually a sequel but a remake, so you can play it without any previous knowledge of pathologic

tardy ore
#

That is such a weird name

sharp grail
#

also, you can report bugs with F10 @sudden torrent! You might want to visit #h1-tech-support

sudden torrent
#

no no, I didn't encounter a bug in game, I encountered a made up bug in my own head during a sleep. sweating

sharp grail
#

yeahh it is. I am pretty sure tinybuild made the devs change the name to that from just “pathologic” which caused tons of confusion.. which is just one way they messed it up for them. They didn’t market it at all, people didn’t even know the game came out.

#

ahhhh... f10 in a dream.....

sudden torrent
#

yeeah

tardy ore
#

Lmao

#

I feel that

#

But with Warframe

sudden torrent
#

I did have game related dreams, but never a dream where I encounter an actual visual/gameplay bug.

sharp grail
#

I’ve played way more of the original game than I have of the remake but what I’ve seen is amazing, and I keep shilling bc the publisher did the devs dirty and I want to see people support the studio so they can keep working on it

sudden torrent
#

I seen the reviews and analyses on the game, hell even seen it get a promotion way back from one of the russian gaming tv channel (yes we have those for whatever, but it's helpful one at that suppose, it talks about some interesting indies time to time), but after hearing that they were done dirty I tried to recommend it to others during autumn but kind of failed since no one was into horror really or survival stuff to even consider the game. :/
I am thinking on maybe manning up and trying out the game myself, my only really worry for Pathologic 2 is if I am good enough at trying out the way it is intended and actually play through the game fully as it is right now, because the game just sounds so niche and yet new, I can't let myself pass up on that.

fervent zenith
#

The problem now is that shovelware has bcome so prevalent the good titles get drowned in mountains of bettle dung

To the point where its hard to follow along at times

but it's like very few of them though, which is like congrats to them, but I defiantly won't be able to do it fair. I lack the time to practice the game to such extreme.
And yeah same honestly, I view it quite well as objectively good game, minus the fact they have a collectables achievement for all gearbits.

faint panther

I've only ever completed the achievements for one game (Armored Core 4, required no collectible hunting), so I've never been bothered by completionism being gated by that, but I get your frustration.

copper lichen

In ITB the only part that is RNG are map generation (which is good), prize reward (with difficulty increase for missions with better prizes), and shops item (which is 1/RNG, 2/generally you have better uses that is not based on RNG using currency and 3/the stock loadouts are generally good enough to beat the game with a few upgrades.)

#

and also if I am correct the two core items, a literal power core which you use to upgrade your mechs and weapons is garuanteed to show up in shops, plus the repair for your grid hp

#

i like those better than the syrup

#

some of those aren't bad

#

there's one i take mixed with hot water and it's not the worst thing in the world

serene tulip
#

Wolcen really makes me wish for a Torchlight 3

hasty kernel
#

Aren't we getting Torchlight 3?

faint panther
#

yup

#

was gonna be an mmo but they changed their minds

#

pretty sure it’s out this year too

deft comet
#

continuing a discussion from hades discussion, what the christians did to greek knowledge was preserve it. The dark ages were caused by germanic and steppe nomad invasions, not religion.

#

If it hadn't been for the christian monks, it's likely that the dark ages that started around 400 AD would have been a collapse like what we saw in the bronze ages where people lost written language entirely

dense wren
#

they did changed a lot of way

#

like making them extremely CHASISTY

#

so you wont get the original flavor

deft comet
#

I don't mean to be rude, but could you rephrase that thought

#

I can't understand what you're trying to say

dense wren
#

for example, Aphrodite has another epithet that is more of a motherly love type rather than the usual amor type

deft comet
#

I thought mother's love was Hera's area

dense wren
#

which is suspiciously christian work since it is alot parallel to Mother (i forgot the name)

#

Nope

#

there is another one

deft comet
#

...You mean Mary?

dense wren
#

Yeah mary

deft comet
#

where are you from

dense wren
#

Japan

deft comet
#

ah, okay that's fair

dense wren
#

ok the epithet is called Ourania

#

its heavenly love

#

so its not exactly the sexy kind

#

Pandemos (the all the folk) is the sexy kind

deft comet
#

hold up

#

I think Urania is a muse

dense wren
#

Urania (Uranya as a variant form) (; Ancient Greek: Οὐρανία, Ourania; meaning "heavenly" or "of heaven") was, in Greek mythology, the muse of astronomy.
Short names; Rania, Ranya (Ράνια; Greek)

#

this one?

deft comet
#

yes

dense wren
#

also pandemos aphrodite is the one we know

deft comet
#

And if we're talking epithets, one of Aphrodite's titles translates to "She of the beautiful buttocks"

dense wren
#

the sexy, sleep around, extreme salty if ppl dont make love

deft comet
#

to be fair, that's aphrodite in most of the stories and myths

dense wren
#

yeah ourania is nothing like that

deft comet
#

Pygmalion+Galatea, the Iliad, debatably Cupid and Psyche

dense wren
#

again, no jealousy involved in a heavenly loved

deft comet
#

It mustn't have been a very popular aspect of the goddess, given that it doesn't come up in any of the myths that we still have

dense wren
#

Yep

#

thats why some people think its probably christian's work

#

since a lot of their version involves a lot of no sexy mode

#

even tho they literally draw nudes on their paintings shadeeyeroll

deft comet
#

funny story about that

#

at certain points, people actually painted over the nude figures on the sistene chapel to make them decent

dense wren
#

Huh

deft comet
#

At the time, Michelangelo's nude paintings on the ceiling were seen as....I guess risque, is about the right level for it

gaunt valley
#

Too avantgarde for a catholic church in full counterreformatory swing.

dense wren
#

Michelangelo: i dont get paid often

deft comet
#

people raised an eyebrow, but it was difficult to impeach Michelangelo's morals because he was an obviously very religious guy

dense wren
#

Also Michelangelo: yeah lets paint them naked to piss the pope off topkek

deft comet
#

no, nothing like that

gaunt valley
#

and he was gay afaik

deft comet
#

ehhhh

dense wren
#

that has no source

#

i doubt it

deft comet
#

queer theory is frankly the least interesting thing you can do in biography

#

like, it's necessary in some cases, obviously

dense wren
#

idk but at some point it might turn into very intoxicating

#

like just assume everybody is gay

deft comet
#

Baldwin II was noted as struggling with homosexual urges by contemporaries, Oscar Wile went to prison for it

gaunt valley
#

@dense wren There is historical evidence for him being gay.

dense wren
#

sure its fun to imagine "insert fiction god here" to be gay but again its odd

#

if you make it too often

deft comet
#

that's exactly what has happened in queer theory, fortunately that fad is largely over and there is a modicum of actual academic rigor involved in that sort of thing these days

dense wren
#

also im ultra gay for apollo so shush

deft comet
#

Apollo would probably bang anything tbqh

#

Ganymede may possibly be an example of the eromenos archetype

dense wren
#

also if you date apollo you have 10% innate chance to die

tardy ore
#

lmao, how

gaunt valley
#

@dense wren
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s15013-015-0775-y
This is the best source (scientific publisher) I found so far, although only in German.

#

So far meaning in a short search.

dense wren
#

@tardy ore refer to every single lover he dated has either run away from him due to the weird curse of them die somehow also turns into flora by apollo because they died in some ways that either is from jealousy of others or straight up T H E P R O P E C H Y

deft comet
#

that kind of happens to the lovers of the gods

#

srsly does it work out for anybody at all

dense wren
#

not happening to Poseidon's lover

deft comet
#

which one would that be, the gorgons he metoo'd in a temple?

dense wren
#

Nah

deft comet
#

I actually tend to be skeptical of people who read that as rape, alot of old cultures had a much thinner line between assault and seduction

gaunt valley
#

Well, the line is still blurry today.

dense wren
#

its Nerites

#

@deft comet its because they read the salty poet edition

#

yknow that guy who got exiled by roman emperor

#

he rewrite the gods as being some of the most selfish being

deft comet
#

Nah, not goign to win this round of jeopardy

#

you don't mean saint jerome, I think

dense wren
#

its Ovid

deft comet
#

oh him

dense wren
#

there goes your $2000

deft comet
#

tch, well

#

wheel of fortune is a better show

#

I should read the metamorphoses

#

but right now I should go to bed XD

gaunt valley
#

Being exiled is such a good source for inspiration, you should try it sometime.

#

Nighty.

dense wren
#

Well its time for the night show of Fade trying to sarcastically mock the story that happened thousand years ago

#

first episode

gaunt valley
#

@dense wren Sorry, you don't have to answer, but where in Japan are you from?

dense wren
#

Hokkaido island

gaunt valley
#

Sapporo?

#

But okay, I have never been in Hokkaido.

dense wren
#

Hakodate

gaunt valley
#

I have to say though, you're an odd one (not in a negative sense). Most Japanese I know barely speak English and even fewer play PC games.

dense wren
#

Im not a real Japanese its just happened that half of my family is Japanese and I moved there after 10 for a good 8 years

#

also Japanese can play PC games

gaunt valley
#

Yes, they can.

#

But the seldomly do.

#

So you're a hafu.

dense wren
#

ehhh not really? I mean i know quite a handful of them are pretty epic on Overwatch

#

yeah im hafu

gaunt valley
#

i don't say they don't

dense wren
#

god i wish there is a word that is better than the word that literally means half

#

meanwhile the translation for mixed blood has been degratory

gaunt valley
#

mixed heritage?

dense wren
#

we do have the term for it

gaunt valley
#

you mean the English or Japanese?

dense wren
#

japanese

#

also except hafu

#

all others are pretty... yeah

gaunt valley
#

stiff?

dense wren
#

Nah

#

straight up degratory or discrimination

#

but its been better

#

also i like how some of you guys really loved the way native-japanese speaks engrish

#

some comes with a mocking way

gaunt valley
#

I hated it.

dense wren
#

but some are... weirdly "adored" it?

#

its odd

gaunt valley
#

I feld so bad because the teacher apparently changed the seminar into English and some students were really struggling.

#

i felt bad for them.

#

I could not follow their speeches at all.

dense wren
#

hold up are you japanese as well

gaunt valley
#

No. But I lived there for a year.

dense wren
#

ah ok

#

exchange student i see

gaunt valley
#

Exactemento.

#

But I wasn't aware of the discrimination against hafus... the (two) hafus I talked to so far were rather positive about their reception there.

dense wren
#

its mostly the politic manipulation

#

the normal folks here does not really care

#

they just happy to have more people here

#

but the old people who cared about politics have higher chance of grow a thorn armor against you

gaunt valley
#

oh, I read about it

#

something something immigrants having lower IQ babies or such nonsense

dense wren
#

its just the politicians are salty

#

I feel pretty great with my japanese friends here

#

they also admired me for being able to assist them with English

#

so yeah its clear the problem only happens in the older generation

#

also with what Logan did really does not help

gaunt valley
#

The only time I experienced discrimination was when we were a group of Japanese and foreign students returning from Yodogawa hanabi in the train and everyone was talking (as the festive mood still stuck with ppl) but some ojiisan just yells at us to not speak English so noisily.

#

And we weren't louder than the rest.

dense wren
#

yeaaaaa

#

if you are a dirt in their eye they will always see it even though its just a speck

#

japan society really needs a wake up call just like every country out there

gaunt valley
#

I think the younger generation is already on a good way.

dense wren
#

hopefully

#

but older generation generally loooves the guilt trip

#

and make sure the newer gen will follow their footsteps

gaunt valley
#

I had a very warm reception there, even as an openly homosexual foreigner.

dense wren
#

anyway i feel like it could get us banananed for talking about politics yeah?

gaunt valley
#

Do the rules prohibit politics?

dense wren
#

im not sure

gaunt valley
#

I dunno, this is more social issues/ life issues in general.

#

Shall the mods decide whether they deem it too political or not.

dense wren
#

@cedar rock sorry to bother you giorno giovanna but is it okay to talk about this

cedar rock
#

Politics are not inherently against the rules here, so long as everyone acts respectful to others and are not inflammatory.

dense wren
#

aight thanks

#

muda muda muda

cedar rock
#

sure thing!

dense wren
#

also kinda related to prove that normal folks really does not care about immigrant and xenophobic stuff

#

jojo part 5 and 6 is probably the best received parts in japan

gaunt valley
#

Didn't watch JoJo. so...

dense wren
#

part 5 is italy based

#

part 6 is america based

#

sooo yeah

#

part 7 is amazing too i must say

#

part 7 is cowboy amurica

gaunt valley
#

I don't know how you get from xenophobia to JoJo...

#

Because, again, I did not watch it.

dense wren
#

idk just feel related also im a jojo degenerate

#

lol

cedar rock
#

yea, the american reception to part 6 weirdly seems worse than the japanese reception

#

I have a feeling it will change when it gets animated

dense wren
#

tbh its the story that hurts the plot

#

even I feel like im reading some bible type from all these unique but too complicated power description for a light reading media

#

and you have anasui, explaining a stand for 5 pages

#

standing there

#

tbh i think thats why part 7 is not a continuation of part 6 rather an alt universe so they can reuse the power in a simpler but more specific way than part 3

#

part 3 stand are vague

#

and most of them can be powerful since they arent restricted by further stand's power limitation

tardy ore
#

Everything is a Jojo reference :^)

vivid ridge
#

Never actually read much of part 6

#

I kinda liked the campiness of part 5 and those before it though

mystic nymph
#

Part 6 is my personal least favorite but it was still a really fun read, can’t wait for it to get animated

#

Jolyne’s also a cool protagonist

sudden torrent
#

I read it into til one part and didn't finish it since I didn't manage time well enough with ut

mystic nymph
#

And stone free is an interesting ability that makes for some really fun fights, it also isn’t broken as all living hell like the other protagonist stands

sudden torrent
#

What I have been told starting with part 6 the stands are more commonly go beyond simply being a fighting stand

vivid ridge
#

I haven't caught up with jojolion since 2014

#

And my body has rejected anime and manga for a few years now

dense wren
#

stone free is pretty weak

#

not sure why

#

@sudden torrent Araki is exploring some more but again with so many stands before part 6 its pretty sure the inspo well is running dry

#

but again part 7 has some more tool stand such as cream starter

#

and its epic you dont see them often

#

i wish suit stand will be a thing again in part 8

sudden torrent
#

I really need get back to reading part 6 but I forgot what I was using for that and on what page I stooped.

dense wren
#

yep thats how forgetful part 6 is

vivid ridge
#

Yeah they get pretty weird

dense wren
#

since some of them are just straight up too complicated

vivid ridge
#

Cause they kinda have to be

dense wren
#

we dont need you to explain 6 pages of how this stupid compass work annasui come by and help
