there's a car shop on the other side of the street
now - i'm not gonna post you any pics - i don't want to doxx myself - so you just have to trust me

and here's the thing - they have this oldschool garage door light, right?
something moves, it turns on

this shop changed owners a while back and they've been changing things
and for some reason - dunno why, dunno how - this light got replaced
it's now way higher up and it's at such an angle it can reach my apartment block

and a few months back something went haywire in there because every now and then it will just go nuts and start turning on and off in the middle of the night

so every now and then i'd be in my bed, 👌 this close to falling asleep
and suddenly this light would go nuts and start flashbanging me like 20 times a minute like

I'd probably say to step back and try approaching it from another angle. If you're writing a thing, maybe that means changing the conflict, or the stakes; for drawing, you could keep what you have but start over with the focus on a different portion

Basically, something to get your brain to approach it as a new project, instead of the one you've been beating your head against

basically - it's a really small, seemingly insignificant part of a single level of a TC i'm working on, right?
i want the player to slow down and take a breather after a bossfight from the previous level and some light to medium encounters in this one

so i've been working on that and somehow ended up with... an elaborate setpiece with explosives and traps and tough enemies all over the place and it's like
complete opposite of what i wanted to make

and yet it still somehow ended up being and over complicated chonkster with platforming puzzles and what not

i can't rely on combat as a crutch for player engagement here
so i'm kinda stuck

That was one of the biggest pieces of advice I got in my gamedev classes. Cutting things sucks, but it's absolutely necessary, so just stick the removed levels somewhere you can look at them in case you want them again later

in case this was too easy - here's another complication

the bit i'm working on is supposed to connect two separate bits of the level

i made the main bit - the middle

and i need something in between - hence the slow, quiet bit, you know?

cause even just describing this in some vague terms is kinda starting to give me an idea of what to do, but still

@bronze mason what i was gonna say, ever since watching tokyo ghoul as a middle schooler, what i look for most in an anime is honestly just like, cool creative badass powers 😭 the kagune in tokyo ghoul are just so sick. and i was a middle schooler so i didnt notice the writing being kinda bad i just liked the vibe of tokyo ghoul

i definitely appreciate good writing and good characters obviously, but when im watching an anime i really value creative and visually stunning powers. and so jjk definitely covers the "cool powers" angle but it doesnt really feel grounded, doesnt have as good of characters imo, and the pacing isnt as tight. so i really love csm because its way more grounded and better at storytelling than jjk, while still having devils that scratch my itch for really cool creative badass powers/monsters. its the best of both worlds

fox devil is so cool and beautiful, katana man is so awesome. just all the designs are amazing, but then the characters are great too. denji is suuuch a better protagonist than pink haired jjk guy, even after getting to season 4 i forget his name LOL

Chainsaw Man is a story that spoke to me personally because I understood to relate to but not idolize Denji as a character. He’s deeply flawed but you can relate to his mistakes and grievances

As the story goes on and on he just sinks deeper and deeper as he hunts for dreams rather than appreciating life

Not to spoil anything but the story as a whole is that life isn’t always about pushing for more if it means giving up everything you have. Greed and pride can ruin you if you fail, and Denji always fails

If you’re watching CSM to be a normal Shounen rather than a character story then it isn’t gonna work for you. Theres cool stuff but the plot is insane and incoherent if you block it to those standards. But if you watch it to pick apart the subtext and the realism in the character dynamics then you’ll have a lot to appreciate

100%, i forgot how much he goons over boobs for literally the first 4-5 episodes of the anime, but seeing him as a bad person or "a pig" or anything like that just seems like missing the point of his character. hes morally grey, but even "morally grey" seems like an inaccurate term. hes just like, kind of an animal. he doesnt really have shame like a human would, nor is he particularly virtuous, but he doesnt get sick pleasure from being bad like humans do either. hes just very simple minded and survival/pleasure-oriented, like an animal. at least, thats my perspective after only having watched the anime (and its been quite a few months), i cant pretend i am analyzing the story suuuper closely but i absolutely appreciate the story and the characters for what they are

back to this, honestly it clicked for me right away. ive always been good at just appreciating vibes and being along for the ride, and kinda bad at picking up on substance, at least on first watch. like i can listen to a song 100 times and love it without ever learning the lyrics. so for csm it really did click for me, even if i wouldnt say i had a deep understanding of every theme they were exploring. the animation and characters and music and stuff really click with me. and like i said i love the devil designs

but scenes like ||the gun devil flattening akis house in an instant||, just seeing an out of context gif of that scene still really gets me. its SO powerful and striking

tbh i wouldnt even say csm is necessarily a tearjerker for me (so far, maybe ill eat those words later on). like the scene is really really striking, and definitely emotional, but its more so jaw dropping than tear jerking. honestly, episode 1 hits me in the feels more than anything, i love pochita and denji

yeah, once i get to that episode im sure all that stuff will come flooding back, but for now i dont honestly remember much about the show except for, for whatever reason, the building they all get trapped in. that episode stuck with me, its what i mean with the show being grounded. it really felt like i was stuck in there with them, every character is so convincing, it doesnt feel like im watching a silly over-the-top anime

yeah, im not as much of an anime watcher, which maybe is why csm landed with me better. i know enough about anime to understand the tropes being subverted, but not so much that i feel cheated out of the anime experience i was expecting

unless you watch the anime as a 12 year old like i did, most agree that is kinda weak. but the manga is really really well loved, its dark and character driven like csm i think, and if you really connect with denji as a character then you might get something out of kaneki's story too. worth keeping in mind at least
