does anyone have any advice on... cat-proofing your apartment? i am adopting a cat on sunday and i want to make sure that i tie up loose ends

anything i need to take out of the apartment, put away, keep in mind, etc.

cat is also coming from a different house, the owners just had to give him away because theyre moving to a pet free place
so im also wondering if aside of what i already know, if anyone has tips for acclimating him to my apartment/space

The first thing that come to mind for me are to check if there's any loose wires anywhere & that if you have plants, make sure they're cat friendly!

Oh - I'd also check under couches or in weird nooks / maybe dust them. My cat loves to hide in places & he's come out smelling dusty. 🥲

i'm in a household that recently got a ~3 month old kitty and we've been using an old dog kennel to give the kitty his own 'room' while he's too tiny to play with the dogs and learns to use the litter box

it's helped alleviate a lot of the 'new pet' stress

the kennel has toys and a cat bed and scratching stuff, and we let him out supervised ofc

depends what the flavor of not functioning is, and what I wanted to try and get done that day

to some degree I'll sometimes just bounce around between things until I latch onto something that I can manage. Books, video games, anything so that I'm not doing nothing. And if there are any friends hanging out in a discord call somewhere, I might hop in, even if I'm going to stay muted and just hang out. Music sometimes helps me a lot - I'm a very musical person, and if I can find something that pushes me out of the funk (<negative emotional state "funk", not musical "funk">) instead of just keeping me in the spiral, I'll have that going as well - sometimes takes a couple tries though.

I've been having a pretty off day - but as I was starting to bounce around, I saw some art posters leaning against the wall - they had been hidden away in a bag until recently, when I took one out to give to a friend - and I had a surge of motivation to finally put them up on my wall. And then I just spent a bunch of time tracking down the artists so that I could take note of who I'd gotten them from, since it was at a convention and I didn't have physical receipts.

So, part of it is recognizing that you might not get done what you were hoping to do - but sometimes you can do part of it, or find something else that you can do.

(and now I'm going to go get the Hades print that I got, like, a couple years ago, and put that up on my wall as well!!)
