Why wait? SG is getting a bigger cut from Epic, which means you support them more w/ the Epic games launcher, and having the competitive platform will do good for the market if it does well

It is an exclusivity deal? It is a deal to be exclsuive to 1 storefront on the same platform as other viable storefront, for 1 year? The only way it's not a deal is if it comes to any other storefront (battle.net, origin, humble bundle, itch.io, discord, gog, gamestop, steam, etc, or direct sale) Also, supporting SG also means supporting Epic Games, which many are not comfortable with doing. Competing for developer exclusivity is not the same as competing for consumer interest. The total global audience that the game could be advertised towards, especially through the player bases feedback and discoverability (what's being played/trending among friends/top selling/popular upcoming/titles you may like/ etc) could still easily end up being more financially supportive at 70% than the (yet to be proven viable at longevity) 88% received through Epic

If they aren't comfortable purchasing through Epic, which is in the short term by far the best platform for SGG to publish Hades rn, then they don't have the developers' best interests at heart (and I therefor couldn't care less about their opinion, personally).
I don't think SGG has ever_said_ that they've got a formal exclusivity deal with Epic, tho considering that Hades was informally a launching title, I strongly suspect they do. If that is the case, then Epic is almost certainly the most lucrative platform for them to publish early access on.

I reckon that the majority of Hades' playerbase are fans of Supergiant itself, not people who randomly saw the game on the storefront.

That's a bit harsh. But, at the end of the day, it will at least be available over multiple platforms when it does release. It wasn't poached off of Steam like some other Epic Store titles, and it is not a full release. I understand people's concerns, especially with user reviews and other such things, but releasing it on one store just for a year and a half of Early Access so they can secure the funding they need is a reasonable thing to do.

Hermeticulture, the fact that the fanbase is largely steam users actually presents a good argument for bringing it to other markets. As Willsaber said, many of us early access players jump in because we love SG's games, but getting it on a new platform to be seen by a new audience and anticipating that the already loyal fans will follow is a strong move.

There's 2 reasons why I don't want to buy hades ot any other game and it has nothing to do with not liking or wanting to support the devs

The biggest reason is that it's not currently a complete storefront, steam is no where near perfect in this regards but it is better than the competition in regards to this

unfortunately epic isn't competeing based on the serviced they provide but on game exclusivities (not saying it's the case for Hades). A good example is Metro Exodus, which was announced as an epic exclusive 2 WEEKS before launch, which ultimately will hurt the sales of the game even with a 90:10 profit ratio from devs:store-front
In the end theirs more than one way to support a dev, it doesn't mean you have to buy their games from a service you don't like

I remember when the Epic Games store offered axiom verge for free on their service but the game crashed early on due to some missing files. Players tried to report this glitch but the Epic game store doesn't have a community forum for the game like steam so they went on to use steam's instead.
The Epic store is just so bare bones and awful right now.

It's really interesting to me that this data suggests Transistor is the most popular SG project. Obviously that one's my favorite, so I can't say I feel this is unfair. ``:P``
I'm thinking Transistor might just be the most overall approachable experience. It's a lot more polished and resonant than Bastion, imo, and it's much less experimental than Pyre.I sometimes feel like Pyre might be more compelling or profound to me than Transistor, but Transistor is definitely a more direct and cohesive story, and I think most people find that really important when they reflect on their memory of an experience.

It's odd you say that, since Bastion has the highest sales numbers, I think, and whenever I mention SGG to people, they always say "oh, the guys who made bastion, right?"
The subset of people here are all SGG fans, so it might be safe to say that Transistor is most popular among us here, but I don't think it's really because it's accessible or has mainstream appeal
If anything, Transistor is pretty unapproachable, outside of its polish...the story is kind of notorious for being oblique

It's interesting, I was showing Hades off to a couple of other designers at work the other day, and one of them said 'oh it reminds me of bastion' and another said it reminded them of transistor, but there was no awareness that the same studio had done both games, let alone all three, and neither of them knew that pyre existed at all.

definitely the combat is much more reminiscent of bastion, but the art style is much more Transistor-influenced, with "natural" environmental elements - flowers, smoke etc. - being a mix of Bastion and Transistor imo
and i am glad the art style in Hades swung more Transistor-y - i love that game to bits

pyre's pretty far out there, definitely not everyone's cup of tea! I don't play a lot of sports games so I really struggled with the mechanics of it for a while, and if it hadn't been for the characters, music, and the exciting new stuff going on with the art I might've bounced off it

Possibly, I've found the exact same, the story of transistor is very much implied which some don't like, so it's a possible turn off for some
Whereas Bastion the plot is delivered in a very straight forward manner through Rucks that is has a much more widespread appeal (which could also be one of the reasons why it has sold the most out of all SGG games)
Pyre is very differant to the previous two games and Hades, where it combines both VN and sportsball elements and combining them makes the game quite niche in a sense, and is also very hit or miss with peopke like transister from my experience

But I found this fix online
"This problem has an easy fix, i dont know if OP still checks this post once in a while but ill leave the answer here, make a shortcut for the .exe of the game, right click it then open properties, now the final step is to go to where the file location is writen and add a space and then -EpicPortal, hit apply and voila the game now works offline, dont forget to open the launcher once in a while when you have ethernet to get updates.
By the way i forgot to add this, the full destination should look something like this once you are done.
"C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Subnautica\Subnautica.exe" -EpicPortal"

yea. Also they have probably the best soundtracks and graphic style ever. I sometimes wish they animators would make a tv-series or something cause it's so unique and beautiful. Plus the writers. Idk who writes these games but they must be like the saints of story writing.
They create worlds that are honestly deeper than rpg games that take like 3 games to explain the lore. Cause of the little bits of detail everywhere

Pyre is Supergiant Games at their best in my wholehearted opinion. The general theme of the stars and upholding traditions is what captivated me most, I felt like I was in the world and that I was really the reader (Which made gameplay way more fun). I haven't got the chance to buy the OSTs for Transistor and Pyre yet but I will, since i'm a musician myself and i'm studying music production, Darren Korb gave me a lot of inspiration to work as an audio director one day.
It wouldn't be Supergiant Games without me spending hours trying to understand 1% of the lore cause the stories are so confusing x)

yea. Tbh transistor got me more inspired to go into physics/engineering due to it all being like cyber. and Programs and stuff. But mostly the writing got me into writing stories for fun. Cause it's so great and it feels like every corner of the map is filled with lore. And I love telling a story less through dialogue and more small details which expand the story more than speech can. I fangirl/fanboy bout sgg so much and I love it

It's amazing how much an indie game can teach you
maybe that's just me being weird, but Transistor made me appreciate love more
and pyre made me appreciate the freedoms I had a little more
besides being fun games to play with excellent repeatability, music, and emotional weight, each game left me learning a little more about myself

Part of QA testing is finding niche errors or situations that cause them to come up more often. Even if you've only found one, play the game a few more times to try and replicate it. @proper musk We do many things and have put policies into place to try to help people avoid crunch. At some point it's a personal decision, and it's hard to say no to external, and even harder to say no to internal, pressure to go the extra mile sometimes. If you've realized that it's taking a toll on your creative output or ability to function to the quality bar you set for yourself I'd suggest stepping away from whatever you are doing to engage in an activity that helps you recharge. Sleeping and hiking do the trick for me!

That's a really good point. I've heard that in Japan they sleep in their office to improve productivity. Your right, sometimes there is pressure from outside and you have to push yourself and its a matter of knowing your own limits.
I read this book about how Nintendo came to be and it said that everyone in the office would have nerf guns under their desk. If there was ever any drama, or too much stress, someone would turns the lights off and evening would grab their guns and a all put need battle would ensue. I always thought that was such a good way to kill stress in an office.

This where things like scrum/kanban come in and play well (with software dev / engineering). Tasks broken down in such a way where finishing each one shouldn't take more than a few hours at most (various teams have different methods of task breakdown, i.e. my last team I was in would break tasks into at most a 2 hour estimate per task for a given story). Reworking your workflow to this kind of approach can help a lot with working way over what you need to, since each completion is a good point to finish for the day or start again. Depending on where you're working of course, like where I am if I work extra in a day i'll leave early another day (quite often I'll do a 10-11 hour day followed by a shorter day somewhere else, if I'm 'in the zone' so to say). Also it's very easy to work overtime if you're passionate about what you're doing.

its funny you mention this because our school is making us have an hour log and we have to log 35 hours for a 100, and 25 for just passing. We also have to make a task list and nothing can be over 4 hours. So we are forced to break down each task into small bits. I think it makes you feel better that way. Like as if you were climbing a mountain, which game dev can feel like at times, and looking at the top from the bottom makes it feel just impossible, but looking at like 50 feet above you seems very doable and once you are there you feel better about yourself. So every little task you complete just propels you forward in a way.

I wanted to say thank you for the latest Supergiant Blast issue (if any of the team reads this). I always enjoy any live performances of Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett - and these were a great pleasure to listen to.
I remembered how I was on a month-long military training, and Setting Sail, Coming Home on a sneaked in player was one of the few things that helped keep my morale high)
Also a random thought - if you ever performed live in Japan, you could do a virtual (hologram) concert of Red performing o_O
