Thinking more about it, I always saw translations as literal translations, which sometimes might feel even a bit disrespectful when you change someone's surname just because, since in the real world doing that would be very disrespectful. However, I suppose that the idea behind that is that every language is not a translation but as if the world was meant to be in "that language" which explains why the characters would be named according to something that would make sense for that language.
I suppose in Pyre's case is a bit weird because the voice acting is still in english regardless of the language.

yeah! good translations are ALWAYS about meaning more than the specific words
sometimes to preserve meaning you have to change up words, sentences, or even large portions of a work, and there's a lot of thinking and collaboration that goes into what the intended meaning is, what the connotations of words are, etc
that's why you can have 500 different translations of something like the odyssey

The Russian official translation is... Iffy.
It has good moments and the translator's have found some good alternatives to the English phrases and words.
But they are "compensated" by very not amazing feats of translation and writing.
The Jomuer Valley was made into something that is read wrong immediately (Джомуэ; close to Jomue), the bog-crones are translated literally (which sounds weird, and short version made the race be named, literally, "old women"), and Pyrehearts are turned into more of a Fiery or something.
Also, "triumvirate" is replaced by "triad", which is a close choice, if not for one thing. "Triumvirate" works good in Russian as well.
And the word used for "Scribes" has more immediate meaning as "people who like books and read them a lot", not "people who write books and chronicle the history".

Oh I've been tagged! Hello! Like @grave island said there were really interesting choices made on Red's first person pronoun--she uses one that's tomboyish (along with a more forceful, masculine register in general) in the terminal conversation where she's telling Boxer how she's gonna destroy the Spine, but in every other situation she uses a more neutral first person pronoun and a feminine register, including in the conversation with Boxer on the obituary terminal. Honestly I'm not entirely sure what the translation was aiming for with that--I'm not a native speaker and while it's common to change pronouns/registers based on the audience you're speaking to, I've never really encountered someone switching registers when speaking to the same audience under different situations.

over the course of about....ehhh......i dunno, 8 months, I used all my Nier:A gametime to make stock footage to then edit
I tried to have every "episode" focus on increasing my skillcap in using premiere
and some of the footage was actually composited together using NUKE, which according to my friend in Image Comp, was "Ian how did you do that in NUKE, I didn't know it could even export video...wait, WHY did you do that in Nuke?!" answer: to see if I could
