soo hum.. I finished Pyre, played it 7hrs today. I wanted to stop at 4 PM but just kept putting it off. It definitely passes the pee test (when you don't want to get up to go pee) Now I just wish that Versus mode had online, but you can't have everything 😄
I've been through all of this studio's material pre-Hades in a week, and I gotta say, gameplay and worldbuilding-wise, this one takes the cake

I think you should... do what's fun for you. The game is built to allow losses to happen. The game also has a big "restart Rite" button in the pause screen so if they didn't want people to use it, you know.

||the titan stars are, for some reason, returning and consuming the stars. i don't think it's ever mentioned exactly why, but they are. the rites were born after the Scribes killed the Titans, so I guess in a way the rites are ending because so are the Scribes, in a sense.
i think there were some theories that the rites were coming to a close partially because of oralech and the true nightwings breaking tradition, but i don't know if there's any basis to that beyond the Archjustice, who can't be taken for his word.
it's been a while since i've played pyre though so don't quote me on anything. last i remembered the rites are ending because They Just Are||

Pyre's such a pretty game. I'm also grateful to the devs for creating a really immersive training experience with Sandra. Headcanon unrelated to this: ||Nobody knows what happened to Archjustice. Some wonder if he's been cast down during the revolution, or if he's in jail. Volfred claims nobody has been cast out ever since the new rule. People eventually forgot and nobody really paid much attention to Oralech's new nurse and secretary, who's grumpy and complains all the time, has claws and always makes the kids scared of the demon doctor calm before their appointment. Almost as if he could see in their head! Must be really good with kids. Should really trim the claws and hair, though.||

Exactly, like there's so many different story choices you can make as well as the gameplay being so unique compared to other games that even with spoilers, you still have a very unique experience because you as the reader are choosing how you want to engage with the world.
Like that quote about the final collaborator on any book is the reader is very relevant to this game on more than one level.

It's half a visual novel at heart, which means that half the game is utterly dependent on writing, sound design, and relatively static art. And Supergiant is stupendous at all three.
The Rites section of the game is either a really cool and innovative thing or an annoyance, it entirely depends on the person, but you can dial back the difficulty a lot to focus on the VN portion
It's also filled with wonderful world building and very endearing characters, though it's not quite as bad as Transistor in terms of who i would kill to get more stuff in that setting

I have to say, after finishing hades and pyre, I think i enjoyed pyre a whole lot more. The store just felt a lot more there, and the video game came second, while in hades the video game first while the story came second.

I've played a little of both Bastion and Transistor(Both were too much story for me funny enough) and I'm hooked on Hades atm(roguelite and not too much story, I feel like I can leave and come back to without feeling bad if I miss a few days) so.... what can I expect from pyre?

like, mostly story with the occasional pseudo-sports gameplay
it's the most story of all their games, but it's also the best story of all their games

It's also a lot more explicit/straightforward about its story, I feel. Bastion and Transistor are both often told in flashbacks, whenever you find something... Pyre is straight-up half visual novel. characters talk to each other.

@tawdry nymph pyre is definitely less of an easily digestible story - the story is strong and continuous, but as @heavy hill mentioned a lot of the confusing lore is always recapped for you in dialogue with a hover option. it's not an especially long game, mind, and the stakes only exist within the realm of the story - defeat doesn't stop you from continuing. the gameplay is more akin to a sport than fighting, so that might be a downside for you
it's definitely not a "jump in for one run" kinda game
you can play it rite by rite, but that makes the story feel a bit small
i suppose you could base sessions until you get to their respective ||freedom rite|| but that's kinda dodgy since you won't know about that until you get a bit into the game

it definitely starts to feel more routine once you get to the meat of the game since most of the mystery is gone, but it's still really good lol
where the mystery slows down, the story picks up
so on the first play through it's super engaging and it doesn't feel long at all, but replays feel longer

I replayed immediately after my first playthrough and had an even better time, but then, I'm in it for the character interaction as much as for the overarching plot. Since all the Blackwagon scenes and most triumvirate plots landed for me, I'm happy at a smaller level and think the overarching rhythm works well to build up the dread of a centuries-old system grinding to a halt.
