Much like playing thought Transistor, it was satisfying for me to figure out exactly how you needed to use what you have to win each match, especially on True Nightwing.

Whether that is soloing an entire match with Moon Girl or Prayer Beads Gilman, having a pair advance in tandem along the edges to distract and strike, or slowly advancing with Volifred and company and banishing for an opening.

That's was my experience.

I think Pyre is honestly Supergiant's most innovative and impressive game, I'm glad they took the risk on making something truly unique even if it didn't pan out wrt sales. Some of the best games ever made lack mass market appeal bc making something unique is gonna inevitably lose some people

So much of what people love about Hades was workshopped in Pyre first, Bastion and Transistor are incredible games but this one truly crystalized what makes Supergiant so unique in the indie space

i think it might be a little bit of not wanting to replay. i know it's weird but like... i like the story i got and i thought it was interesting how things worked out and i know if i do it again things won't be like that and itll take away from the feeling of the ending i got being personal.

Iirc. I think what happened for me was ||Fae was liberated, rukey got his debt forgiven, brought Pamitha against the essense and lost and Tamitha was liberated. Rukey liberated. Headwyn liberated. Pamitha liberated. Jodariel liberated. Lost to Oralech and turned down his offer and he was liberated.

The plan was successful but it was a violent uprising with Tamitha leading the harpies to attack|| mightve gotten order slightly wrong. but ah it's just neat yknow. since it's unlikely that matches someone elses experience with the game exactly and like everything makes sense and like... i doubt there was any statistical thing but like judging by dislogue ||id like to think Pamitha threw the rite intentionally so her sister could be free|| considering that to be the justification for losing mskes it more immsersive. It was just really fitting i happened to lose that

I mean, it's not "that it's like a sports game" that was the issue for me, it's that I just didn't enjoy that part of the gameplay at all (I got stuck in a weird stalemate in the 'demonstration rite' that introduces it, and couldn't work out how to not be stalemated).

Didn't really take it seriously (and don't think it was intended) but realized that you could map most of the Pantheon figures in Bastion to the Nightwings in Pyre:

Bertrude = Jevel (health and atrophy) - she's the longest lived of the group and is both "healthy" and "atrophied" from age.
Gilman = Yudrig the morning stallion (impulse and bravery) - joins the nightwings on a whim and is the most outwardly brave. - also a knight which plays into the stallion motif.
Hedwyn = Lemaign (Mason King, hope and despair) - the nightwings leader inspiring hope and helps manage despair.
Jodariel = Micia (mother) - the mom of the group.
Pamitha = Hense (pain and pleasure) - the one who has experienced the greatest "physical trauma" having her wings cut off and indulges in pleasures like alcohol - other stuff too that fits the character imo.
Reader = Garmuth (crippled duke, purpose and folly - lacking senses Garmuth gave council to the wise) - Garmuth is also represented by a mirror which is appropriate for the protagonist. Being a "cripple" also fits with the origin of a crippled Reader.
Rukey= Olak (god of chance and whim) - he gambles to free himself from debt, is a merchant reliant on chances/opportunities.
Ti'zo = Pyth (commotion and order) - laughed imagining Ti'zo as a creature so scary and fierce that he's likened to a bull (also has horns). Sort of cheated and included "Oralech" due to their friendship as an aspect of Pyth since he is also a cause of commotion when the natural order which should have set him free was disturbed.
Fae/Moon-girl = Acobi (goddess of oath and abandon) - is the most pius and oath bound to the scribes of the group, and has experienced abandon from society for her differences
Volfred = Roathus (God of thirst and plenty, while tenuous he is the most ambitious of the group and constantly seeks more) - represented by a tree branch also.

Third time Im restarting the game. The first time I messed up the dialogue options (and had difficulty making sense of the lore ). The second time, similar, but further ahead.

other than the moments of choices, the plot of the game is fairly linear. i doubt you missed something but i am also curious to know what made it feel disjointed

Mainly, it was the Hedwyn convo.
For reasons I dont even remember, I mostly did NOT take the Hedwin choices on my way to the first Liberation rite. That meant that convos with him felt like he was speaking as a familiar friend, when Ive been mostly against him the whole time.

Pyre definitely is the most interesting game musically since each of the triumvirates basically have their own genres of music. The soundtrack also feels like you are on an epic journey.

The game also does a great job of having you get attached to various characters (either due to how they are written or because they are really good at fantasy basketball) and then forcing you to give them up. It’s a great system

I'm in the ultra minority who thinks the Rites are the best part of any Supergiant game. Hades is great but it's 90% busy work until I find out if satyrs are going to poison me to death or not. Pyre with the difficulty cranked up is just a white knuckle boss rush.

I probably have more hours in Hades than any other game but I genuinely admire that Pyre was its own original thing. The gameplay and how it fits the themes of co-operation perfectly are something I really appreciate (also helps that the rites are super fun when you get the hang of the gameplay).

My interpretation is that “the stars” refers to the stars of the show which is Tariq and Celeste. So the story is that one day, the Scribes were playing some football while celeste&tariq were jamming, and the Sky Titan, Time-Singer Harn himself came to watch, but was “stricken by the stars” and died of peak music

ok so pyre is like a sports/visual novel/rpg mashup (stay with me here). its about a group of misfit exiles essentially playing magical basketball to earn their freedom from a strange purgatory called the Downside. also reading is illegal. gameplay wise its been described as "nba jam meets oregon trail" with lots of visual novel. the story is great the music is beautiful all the characters are awesome (except for deluge and lendel they can fall off a bridge)

Until the second ||liberation rite|| Lendal is joined by two nomads named Vispa and Darben. After the second ||liberation rite||, they are replaced by two demons named Vispaleth and Darbenfor. I forget where in the game it said this, but once becoming a demon, an exile will change their name. These are those nomads transformed into demons.

I'd guess Jodariel is named that since the suffix "el" appears a lot in abrahamic angels (eg. Adriel,Agiel,Gabriel etc.) and the other suffixes (or, ot, leth, lef, lept) appear a lot for demons in various mythologies.

^ Since the writers were fiddling about with a lot of linguistics since there's a lot of focus on language in the game then they'd have considered how the names should reflect their status.

I especially like how they all represent distinct musical styles/genres. They help give the different triumvirates unique personalities.

I also think the adventuring music that plays while riding around in the Blackwagon is some of the best in the ost. If I ever ran a d&d campaign, I would definitely use a few of those songs as background music.
