It's over! My first Liberation Rite, victory, Hedwyn is free
Went with Hedwyn (Defense, but scored twice with him because I simply had to for the plot, it's his liberation rite), Tamitha (probably my fav unit overall) and Rukey

I actually took out Tizo because I didn't think he would have a good matchup against the boss unit of this rite, Ignarius is a big boy and one of the allies has wedge attack, he probably still would've cooked though but I thought Rukey would have the cleanest matchup
Still comfortable enough to stack my gains Amulet to +12 gold instead of going 100% tryhard 😎 , couldn't help it

For my next choice of planet, does the difficulty scale or remain static?
e.g. if I expect the dogs to be hard (they also have the biggest planet lol, if that matters or not), and I challenge them immediately expecting that the second planet won't scale them that difficult, is that a correct assumption?
If it's static difficulty then I definitely wouldn't pick them first because I'd rather scale first myself, if that makes sense?
But if they scale then I'd maybe pick them first to try to beat them ASAP, if that makes sense?

I don't know about difficulty scaling but each triumvirate has a plotline that you only get if you go to it and challenge them with your dude on the team, so after your dude is liberated it's gone forever

My experience was that the teams have a sort of built in difficulty

The pyrehearts, Chastity and Accusers are pushovers while the Dissidents, Withdrawn, Fate and Tempers stay pretty tough

#

The team makeup also plays into it, like the Withdrawn will always field a bog crone who can nuke your pyre for 30 damage which might make encounters with that team feel particularly tough

It's my first playthrough, I'm good lol, if anything I'm just trying to figure out how to avoid and handle overly difficult scaled fights that cheese me

For me turning on heightened was key to handling more difficult fights. That way you are made to learn how the game works and strategy. In normal you can get by just running at the goal and winning until about halfway through when you realize you don’t actually know how to play the game very much

Eg. I had never really bothered learning how to pass until trying hard

I believe so. You can also restart rites after you lose them. The game lets you progress whether you win or lose but it does let try as much as you want if you want a particular outcome

Bring up the pause menu before confirming the outcome of the rite and choose "Restart Rite"

Also I revisited Rukey's skill tree and he might be broken, at l5 that respawn allowing you to avoid many 2v3s, and being the best user of on-score talismans

Failer is a nice guy and has a keen eye for good strategies in pyre. Altho be warned, make one false step and his temper will explode. Yesterday when i made a comment about how im up 14 games on him, he switched to double savage and suddenly victory was within his grasp. After losing one game to him I switched to the good old canned singularity and then my winstreak made a valiant return. At the end of our play session, he made a stunning claim: “Void bad”. Normally i would just let it slide, but this time i would seize the chance to stand up for the truth and greater good. “No, Void good” i replied. He then quit pyre, requested to watch my brodcast, then blocked me all together. Hope he unblocks me soon tho, so i can tell him “it was just a prank, bro”.

There are 3 type of slashes in my mind: melee slashes, territorial slashes, and chasing slashes. Melee slashes are what they sound like, you slither to an exile and slash near their aura, or if they have the orb, works best on non moving exiles. Territory slashes are when you are on defense and you have time & forethought. You set up a wall/L shape with your aura. Its more of the threat of the slash rather than the actual slash. If they commit a jump you can chase them down after that(class specific). The chasing slashes are the most fun but hardest to pull off. They occur when your wyrm is an active threat to scoring. You have the orb and then lose the orb(by air collision or by throwing intentionally) your adversary is in a state of ‘this wyrm needs to die’, you run away from the exile and ‘kite’ them, spamming slash. Obv this wont work if they secure the orb, but it gives you time to reset. If you want i could probably scrounge up some examples. All if this requires good movement, timing, and reaction time.

i find it easily interesting when people liberate tam when pam asks for it. so pam's character, a part of it, is she is just so deeply overcome with guilt about everything that happened and she needs tam's forgiveness now so she keeps pushing, when one of the thing tam needs is space. she punishes herself (exiling herself, allowing tam to go up in her place meaning she'll continue to suffer in the downside), as if she suffers enough tam will give her the salvation of forgiveness and her guilt will dissolve. it's really self-destructive, from a character who has other self-destructive tendencies (the moonshine). it's a terrible idea, both for the Plan as a whole and for pam as a person. so it's really interesting to see when people choose to throw the rite because pam wants it.

i wouldn't call this intervening against a friend's wishes, nor stealing her agency. what pam wants is actively detrimental to the plan and her own health, it's something that affects her and also the ultimate goal in the narrative. this is also more than pam's wish--this is a choice you make as your character and as your own self. to throw the rite is not to just let pam do as she wishes and whatever happens, happens, but to actively work, as a character and a player, to sabotage yourself and your goals just to assuage pam's guilt. it's not an intervention of a friend's wishes, it's actively working to help a friend self destruct as well as hurt everyone else in the process.

It's funny to me because Logan is usually such a shape shifter with his voice that I'm like "THAT'S HIM!?" but apparently he has only the one Snide Arrogant Villain Guy voice

I gotta say, this game stands the test of time. Even after all these years, Pyre remains my favorite Oregon Trail Visual Novel Basketball RPG.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask or if anyone can even help me (I'm sure it's a longshot lol) but I was wondering if anyone here had any idea of a place where I could find some of the audio files from the game? For some context, I'm doing a sorta livestreaming voice acting production of Pyre where me and a bunch of friends voice the characters and I'd like some of the sounds from the game to be able to play clips of during said stream or in any potential edited videos I put up of the content. Does anyone know where I could find any sort of compilation of those files? Or know how I would go about extracting them from the game on my own? Any help is much appreciated robbyfHeart

||from my experience: Hedwyn, Rukey, and Jodi are most likely to be ready at first rite. Of the three, if this is your first game, Hedwyn is the most logical choice. Rukey is shady (at least, to start), and Jodi has a bad temper and racism problem.||
