I wouldn't bother. Just use Cleveland or Brooklyn. Phoenix skill doesn't go off much when Unicorn is around.

Long com, dorm, xp packs if you saved them

Use them somewhere easy. Unicorn and Laffey could probably carry 4 ships through 3-4.

Yeah if you want to keep playing then you need to get more efficient. If you can do something easier with fewer ships you will actually get more xp per oil. For example, if you can do 6-4 with a 1:1 fleet that fights 1 mob and a 2:2 fleet that fights everything else.
